Now don't get me wrong here I'm not trying to start any flame wars in any way. I would just like to gather thoughts on why would someone go with WP7 when Android seems to be kicking so much ass?
Yes, I'm an Android fan, and have been from the start.
I'm a photographer, and I've had my eye on the Galaxy Tab for some time now in order to show off some of my work (mini portfolio) with clients when I'm out shooting.
Yesterday I walked into my local TMO store knowing that I was going to buy the Galaxy Tab, but I was not aware that they had a promotion going on with the Tab. Pretty much the deal was... buy a Galaxy Tab, and get a free Smart phone. I'm thinking that's cool! Turns out that the phones (Android) that were free were phones I've already owned, or pretty much didn't care for. So, the only phone left sticking out like a sore thumb was the HTC HD7.
Yeah, the phone is sexy, but it's a Windows phone, and why the hell would I want that, right? I mean, I owned the HD2, but it left me with such a bad taste in my mouth, and led me to sell it after 3 weeks. I just found it to be such a sluggish phone, Windows 6.5 was not doing it for me. Shame because it was a sexy phone as well.
Anyway, I took a chance with the HD7. I thought I'd play with it for a bit just to check out Windows new UI. I knew when picking the phone I'd sell it because I didn't want a Windows phone. I'm an ANDROID FANBOY! The money made from it would break me even for my Tab purchase. Sweet!
Guess what...? The phone is not going to sold, because I think I'm in love? I also feel like I'm cheating on my wife, or something. This phone ROCKS! Still not sure why I feel this way, but I do.
1. Phone is SEXY!
2. Love the layout of the UI.
3. It's just so damn smooth!
Yeah, it has a few I dislike...
1. Very weak Market, and what's up with the high prices?
2. Pink tint in the center of my photos when using the camera.
3. Facebook, Twitter, and browser all seem to run a bit sluggish.
I'm sure the above 2, and 3 can be fixed with an update, and 1 will grow with in time.
My only questions are...
What do I have to look forward to in the future with this phone/UI?
What can I do now?
Will WP7 have great support by Devs?
Should I say goodbye to Android?
Thoughts?
Thanks!
WS.
i will say welcome to the club my friend... and now just imagine how it will be like when WP7 will tablet PC...
Have to say I have the HD2 and HD7 and love them both in their own ways. I agree the HD2 was a pile of poo with stock rom.. so much bloatware I'm surprised it even booted up! But with an NRG rom on it just rocked! Plus it ran Android really well from SD...
My new HD7 rocks in a different way. Yes the market is a little small and pricey right now - but so was the iPhone one at the beginning....
My only gripes are not being able to LOCALLY sync with my calendar on my PCand not being able to tether it to my netbook for internet access... give me those and I would be in heaven!!
Welcome to the club!

I was Android fan too, until I saw WP7 phones. Yesterday I checked them in shop (I was reading and watching many videos), but Trophy blew my mind off!!! It's awesome!!! Android really sucks, compared to WP7
Honestly, I have tried to go back to android just b.c i do like the mytouch 4g(webcam, app quality/quanity, and wi-fi calling)
But i love my hd7
the mysense and android experience seems...so boring...no matter how much you replace launchers, root it or whatever
I LOVE WP7
i just really want them to get ringtones 2011 and better applications
I also tried going back to my Android before my 30-day return window was up for my HD7, but within an hour I couldn't even stand how sluggish it was compared to my HD7.
There is no question, I am sticking with my HD7 and will probably continue with some sort of WP7 device until they come out with something better.
HD7 (WP7) works smoother than any other phone out there including iPhone and is so much sleeker than every other OS. I absolutely love it.
netflix netflix and netflix
^^^among the smoothness, plus 1000!
I still can't figure out why a 2nd gen snapdragon on the mytouch is slower than a 1st gen on HD7
GIVE ME WIFI CALLING AND BETTER CAMERA, and it will be perfect

How do you measure CPU performance on two different platforms? It's not like Linpack is available for WP7, is it?
Ya the experience is VERY good on the HD7! I'm an Android fan as well but REALLY am liking my WP7!

It has nothing to do with the CPU differences.
It is OS difference.
I'm an android fan got Desire HD, Tab and HD7, HD7 UI is fantastic very smooth. Screen animations brilliant but I'm afraid that's about it.
The browsing experience on HD7 is very poor a complete let down, pants. Picture quality not good. Battery life poor. Market phew complete rubbish compared to Android and that's being very kind.
If wp wants to catch up to Android it has to improve it's market and browsing experience otherwise it will never be popular as android.
Personally I would go with WP if the browser and apps can be fixed the other things can be tolerated as the ui and animation smoothness makes up for that.
i was a great android fan starting from(G1,MYTOUCH3G,....) to(GALAXY S DEVICES) but once i bought the HD7 i was in love with it.
Just cant wait for the update (NODO) next week and the other update (MANGO) in a month or 2.
I'm never going back to ANDROID.

Don't expect too much goodness with WP7. The updates will be meager at best. WP7 doesn't even have voice nav like WinMo did or any Android phone does. There's a lot missing in the way of features other than voice nav too. You can't use your own ringtones or any other ringtones. You can't do multi-tasking. You can't customize the UI like in Android. Most of the lauded features don't work. Like the live tiles, mine has never seen a live tile....other than letting me know I have a certain number of emails and such. The widgets in Android do a heck of a lot better at quickly displaying events than live tiles do.
I started out liking WP7 because of the quality of the UI (smoothness and cleanness). But I lost interest in it when it was announced that common features would be almost a year away. I'm currently not using my HD7 and it's sitting waiting for an Android ROM to be developed for it. As for the HD2 you had, it makes a superb Android phone. And with the HD2, you could have a different phone as often as you like. Currently my HD2 is an HTC DesireHD, which is a purely superb Android version.
When Android is available for the HD7, it will make an outstanding upgrade from the HD2 because of the software buttons. As for WP7, it's going in the trash. I loved WinMo 6.5 Pro, but WP7 has me buggered. Don't get me wrong, I love a closed system phone like the iPhone and like MS is doing with WP7. But I need at a minimum the common features available on smartphones today.

your bias is so obvious. Widgets doing a better job is your opinion. I have 4 live tiles just in my main screen, without scrolling down.

It's because the HTC Sense UI and other bloatware cause it to be sluggish that way. If it ran vanilla 2.2 it would be way faster. 2.2 on the G2 is much smoother and less laggy than the MyTouch 4G. I like HTC but I was disappointed with the compatibility with Sense UI and Android (although I think it was a great idea. It was poorly realized). But even if it ran faster it would still be plain... Vanilla. For now I'm happy with the HD7 and am looking forward to the bright future for WP7 :]. I mean if you think about it... this is 1.0 and compared to Android 1.0? phew!
2.3 Vanilla was pretty damn sexy though... but only because of the features. the UI for WP7 is my favorite from the rest.
The Fandroid comments make me laugh. I was one of the G1 day one users and there was SOO much crap said for Android. Oh it's going to fail, it's crap. Yadda Yadda. Some time later, Android became the power house that it is now. I've seen the progression of how Android grew. While it advanced to where it is now...It grew more and more boring for me. For people now jumping into the Android pool, it's amazing. But for day 1 adapters, it didn't have anything new/exciting to keep me around.
WP7 launches and of course everyone bashes, it doesn't have this, it doesn't have that. Does anyone remember Apples first iPhone launch? It wasn't amazing either, but look at it now. Yes the Kin was garbage. No one can arguee with that. Windows 6.5 may left a bad taste in people mouth with Windows Mobile OSs. But to some 6.5 was the powerhouse that they wanted and now love. People need to understand that this is Windows Phone 7 not Windows Mobile 7. New OS from the ground up.
Yes, it's lacking features, yes the market isn't strong compared to other. But people it's been out for 2 months. With the growth in developer support, devices, or support for updates, it has a chance to be a strong OS. The Xbox Live support alone makes it a big contender for games with the link to 360 users gamertags.
It comes down to time and growth. Give it till after the set of updates to then bash it. For me, Android didn't have anything to really offer me other then new handsets. Not a Blackberry fan and didn't really care for the iPhone. Never played with a Palm Pre so can't really say anything about it. I wanted something fresh and new. For me the Xbox 360 integration played a huge part in my decision, but the idea behind WP7 had me interested. So I followed it since the initial announcement to launch date in the UK to me actually playing with one in person. I'm happy with my purchase and am not looking back. Looking forward to the updates, growth, and future for WP7.
guy, i understand ppl like Android, WP7 or iOS... but i dont get those ppl who will buy a HD7 and *****ing about why it cant run android because of few missing features which we all knew will not be in till 2011....
i really feel sorry for you guys... get a life...
Ok, I've been on Android since the early G1 days. Next had a my touch slide and now the my touch 4g. I have been thinking about getting an iPhone 4s because I have all Macs in the house and an iPad. They just work. The iPhone sounds good because of the interaction between it and my network. Streaming, etc...
I like Android os and was thinking about the galaxy s2 or maybe the upcoming necks prime. The thing that bothers me with android is a lot of fragmentation. I know the prime would be the best because it would be upgraded earlier than everything else, plus ICS coming with it. But the allure of the phone working well will my network sounds good. Plus, face it, androids music apps aren't that great. But I just can't decide. Anyone have any real time with either. No fan boys, let's have an honest comparison. Thanks
Tbh, if you aren't a major customized android just falls short. I use my phone for games, music, movies, and interaction. For that I chose wp7, I likely would have gone iOS if not for the tiny screen and ugly UI but if you use apple products for your other devices then I see no reason not to go the iPhone route and the 4s is going to be sweet once they release that infinity blade sequel.

I just have to ask, what doesn't work on your android device?
As for iOS or Macs, lion upgrade was a mess and my experience with the ipad hasn't been that stellar. Lot of apps just do not work or closes without an error message and this includes the stock browser. I've actually avoided ton of apps purely because of numerous complaints about latest apps not running properly (ie EA games, half dozen document viewers, etc)

Don't like the force closes and that kind of stuff. And updates never come. Custom Roms, sure but half the time they have problems. Just not sure. I like iOS but the small screen size and lack of sd slot bother me the most. Build quality is great though.

Why not wait for the Nexus prime first before deciding to buy the iPhone 4S?
Hey Guys,
I'm a long time blackberry user and I've gone through at least a half dozen over the years.
I'm currently using the Blackberry Bold 9900, which I suppose is the current flagship model.
I bought the Playbook tablet long ago, unfortunately even after the '2.0 update' it's basically a paperweight and almost useless. In my frustration I bought a kindle fire, and was very impressed. There's a very active dev community, and in no time I had it rooted and was testing out different mods and kernels. Lots of fun.
This got me thinking about getting a more competent android device, the fire is good but I'd be interested to see what a serious device could do. I've been waiting forever to get a tablet with a decent digitizer/stylus and was immediately interested by the Galaxy Note (and later the Galaxy Note 10.1).
I've been seriously considering getting the Galaxy Note as a second phone and giving it a go. However, I still don't understand why I would want or need such a large and powerful device.
Typing on a touchscreen is pretty terrible. Yeah everyone says you get used to it, but I could bang out 50wpm in the dark with my hands behind my back on my blackberry.
I had the iPhone 3GS and I hated it so much I threw it out of the window on the highway. What a nightmare.
Secondly, I only ever use my bb to: email, bbm, twitter, and occasionally make calls.
So I suppose my question is.. Other than the fun that is hacking up the phone/tablet and customizing it. What's the point? Why does one need a device like this? What do you do with it to justify having it? What apps do you need/use on a daily basis that need two cores and a HD screen?
As a consumer, I want one. But as a rational person I don't know what I would use it for. I only use my kindle fire to play crappy time killer games on the treadmill. What's the point?
Thanks for your time.
Android has the ability to customize everything to such an extent that basic, you made the phone. That's what everyone loves about it. You can the look, feel, and functionality all to your liking.
Also, you have the option of the three main android version which are: Stock (can be seen on the galaxy nexus) HTC Sense (can be seen on all HTC phones) and MIUI (a custom rom that extends the customization ability even further with has themes for EVERY aspect e.x. The dialer, messaging app, notification bar, lock screen, etc)
You should go your local bestbuy and play with the phones. Android is a great experience.
In reference to your apps that you like, there are many email and twitter apps, all with different levels of functionality, and being that you're social, you'll enjoy widgets that allow you to send a tweet quickly, right from your home screen. When you finally leave BBM, you'll realize that it's not so important. There is an app called Talk, it's just like BBM, only for android. Texting is also just as good.
I hope I helped in your decision and enlightened your image of Android.
Good luck!
I asked myself these very same questions before purchasing a true smartphone, and sadly it turns out to be a life eater. You can do almost anything on the phone. I use mine mainly for music, news reading, and playing games. But everyone always finds different things useful in their phone. I can almost guarantee you won't regret getting the Note. That is if you can deal with that massively beautiful screen.
Thank you kindly for the responses KayxGee1 and JustinUhhh.
I think I will take the leap, and try it out for at least one month.
I went from BB OS to Android and could not be happier. Give it a try, the positives will likely outweigh any negatives for you.
It all depends on what you do. If you want to be able to play high end games, be able to have the latest software for a good while and be able to keep up with the rest for another year then you should get the note. If none of the above matter then any simple android device should do.
$1 gets you a reply
Overall Android just gives you an experience that is designed for you, couldn't be happier with it.
Honestly I see Blackberrys at the end of the smart phone train. I love Android cause it is sleek and fun to use!
Android can be a portable office, a portable arcade, or a portable jukebox. For geeks the customizability is an attraction in itself. If you travel a lot you really can't beat it as a mobile commumication center. It's really whatever you make of it.
Made the jump, and one week later.. It's going great! The xda community is fantastic, and the hardware is unreal. Cheers guys!

Miui isn't a main Android version. But touchwiz on Samsung phones and motoblur on Motorola phones is.
- this sig is just so I don't have to write 10char when on my phone -
Here we have:
- MotoBlur
- Sense
- Xperia
- LG UI
- TouchWiz
- Tap n' Tap UI
- Google Nexus AOSP Devices (Android)
That's all I remember now

Do you still like the android platform?
or will be you next phone windows phone 8 os or iphone (ios)?
Never
I will never stop loving android and hate apple fanboys.
i have tried both windows phone 7 and ios, and they are very unique and interesting to use. But after a while u will start to get bored using the same old platform and i think android is the same. I heard Mozilla has released a "firefox os" and written based on HTML5 or so. Looking forward to it ^^
I also like and will still like Android.

Agreed.
I've been using a lumia 800 for a couple of days and frankly i think i could get enogh of it soon
Also forming part of a community of people wanting to develop tweak and wanting more from your phone means something, at least to me, i recently realized that i like all the rooting, trying new roms, tweaks, scripts, customization and contributing to this community, i don't see the other 2 platforms giving me the same

loving a platform and hating the fanboys are two entirely different things. lol.
i too hate the "iFans", but the OS's fluidity is just amazing "NOW" (after flash is not going to be supported on droids too. a sad case because still now 70% of all websites use flash and not HTML5 ). there are a few common games for both the platforms. try and play both simultaneously. the iOS handles them reallllllyyy wellllll.

now, i hafta differ. android is great. i bought back my OB from my frnd whom i had sold it off, because i just LOVE android customizablility. BUT, i also have bought a lumia 710 (it's 90% lumia 800, save for the camera, extra storage and the screen tech) and gotta say i kind of like it better than the android platform.
WP7 has a few nice things up it's sleeve. first and best is battery life. lumia 710 is having a 1300 MAh battery, yet gives me about 2 days with 2g always on (that means syncing SNS and live tiles all the time), about 4/5hours of music, few snaps, etc. also, the level of SNS integration is just mindblowing. maybe there are less apss and games, but i actually don't play much. line birds, line runner as games and the super awesome "photosynth" app, a toggle app, a live card and a doc scanner. dats all. nokia also has given 2 nice apps as "camera extras" and "creative studio". all to say, am really really REALLY satisfies with the WP7.5 (and with 7.8 the homescreen is gonna be much better )
am using it for less than a week and already by OB has turned into my 2nd phone.
and mind you, there ARE a couple o' ROMs for the lumias at xda.
i've tried my friends' iphones and windows mobiles for about a week each
the iphones are damn smooth(sometimes they have slight lags)
windows mobile am fed up then when i see, those platforms aren't for me
they are too monotone to me
i love my android and am now using it as it was created for(games, emails, youtube, homework, camera, facebook, skype)
when i feel like buying another phone, i think about mine and say to myself...will i really use those features?
then i look at mine and remember the day i bought it and its wonderful features
no, i'll stay android if ios7 is still like this
I like Android very much!!! Very customizable, and it's getting better and better
Time for Android
Pros:
Very customizable
Updated quite often
Has a lot of features
Custom roms, themes, etc
Flash support! Though Flash for mobile will be soon discontinued by Adobe :/
Android exists among all types of phones; low,mid and high-range phones, therefore it is very flexible in terms of budget/choice of the customers.
And so on
Now, the Cons:
Not well fragmented; lag exists & it has quite a lot of problems compared to other OSes
Does not support many games, compared to iOS
Laggy browsing experience with ANY browsers.
The OS sometimes require powerful phones to run smoothly, thus making more expensive phones better, and cheap phones worse.
Your android powered phone can be easily bricked and has more software issues than other OSes; this is because building Android for 1000s of phones is really not easy, while iOS and WP7 are supported by very few devices, making the development of the OS very easy and better.
And MANY more
Now turn to iOS
Pros:
Very well fragmented; a 600Mhz device can run very smoothly.
Has very low software issue.
HTML5 support, super smooth browsing experience ahead!
Very hard to brick an iPod/iPhone lol
Games, games, GAMES!
Has featured apps which are quite useful (Siri, iMessage, etc)
iOS have a more professional look than Android, but less than WP7.
Super easy to use! Even my 3 year old niece can use it.
Has free cloud storage by default
And many more...
iOS is not without cons:
Can be extremely boring for some people.
no customization, unless you jailbreak, which still allows you less customization than Android.
Supported only by iPod/iPhone, restricting consumer choices/
Software updates makes older devices obsolete and outdated, forcing customers to buy new iPod/iPhones.
Apple = purely marketing... People buy iPhones blindly XD
No bluetooth file transfer to other devices!!
And so on...
I didn't not really used a WP7 powered phone, but from what I see, it is a very good and fluid OS!
Pros:
So much simplicity, so fluid, so COOOL!
Damn it runs at 60fps like all the freaking time! Practically no lags. - Extremely well fragmented.
Perfect to impress others lol, the OS is very well presented and looks like a premium OS.
More customization than Apple's iOS
HTML5 support, super smooth browsing experience ahead!
Xbox User can use Xbox Live on their WP7 Phone!
Has free cloud storage by default
Easy to use.
WP7 phones gets major software updates.
Now the Cons (there may be more):
No bluetooth file transfer! Just like iOS
Not as customizable as Android.
For some, the UI can be very boring.
And some more...
If I had to decide which is the best Operating System for phones, it would have been extremely hard!!
To simplify the decision I would divide it into categories:
In terms of Choice, Functionality and Customization; ANDROID
In terms of Apps, Stability and Ease; iOS
In terms of Fluidity, Professionalism and Ease; Windows Phone 7
I am not surprised to be using a WP7 phone in the future as I like the UI so much.
I think im going to use wp 8 if it come our or wp 9
for the future, it's unpredictable all os are good
ios and wp are said to be fluid and here comes jelly bean
its to your taste
i myself dont know what i'll really buy next time
but i prefer ios or android

Hi all, new to the forum so thought I'd do this as my first post,
I have had android since it came out in 2008 on the G1 phone, having it for so long I fancied a change so traded my s6 edge plus for an iPhone 6s.
I had the iPhone for 2 weeks but really didn't get on with it, I'm not saying it's a bad phone but coming from an OS which is hugely customisable /tweekable I couldn't deal with the lack of deep editing and customisation so here are my pros and cons:
Ios:
Pros:
Really easy to use, a child could competently use one in a matter of hours,
Worked really well with my macbook air
Looks lovely.
No worries about malware or crap ad pushing apps.
Apple pay was brilliant
3d touch was great.
Updates are immediate after release and consistent.
Huge array of quality 3rd party accessories
Cons
Battery life was shocking,
Screen resolution is very dated and looks nowhere near as good as my androids
Camera was not as good and the macro was terrible
It felt like I didn't own the phone but was leasing it from Apple.
No customisation, the menus etc look so dated
No resizable keyboard,
Live wallpapers are extremely limited and didn't work well
No widgets
No sd card
Couldn't use it as a mass storage device.
ITunes has to be used for everything, and that's a bag of poop,
Replying and starting threads on the fretboard is a pain in the arse, they keyboard was constantly in the way of what I was typing.
The biggest thing for me was the fact you couldn't get into the system files,
I had the 16 version and had 1.2gbs worth of apps but 5gb of documents and data after 3 days if use! After a lot of research it's a known big issue they have not addressed And you can't do anything about it at all so half my storage was taken up by rubbish.
Android:
Pros:
Total freedom to customise everything,
Themes
Better camera
Better screen
Apps are cheaper or free
Much better battery life (from the phones I have had)
Cheaper
Integration with cloud and Google is phenomenal,
Can be used as mass storage and any file type can be played
Cheaper to insure
More storage space, and you can get rid of stuff you dont need.
The list goes on...
Cons:
Anyone can make an app so there is a load of crap, you have to do your homework on the apps available
Potential for malware (but this is nowhere as much of an issue as apple and the media make out, as long as you dont sideload apps.
Updates reliant on oem and carrier.
So after two weeks I sold the iPhone and got a HTC 10 which for me is better in literally every way.
I found on the iPhone I was using all of Google services and none of apples (drive, chrome Gmail etc)
Sifr is also nowhere near as good as Google now, and felt extremely limited compared.
I can totally see why people would stick with an iPhone as it does just work and works well but for me it's far to limited and had to find too many work arounds to get it to do what I want,
On the other hand my macbook air is the greatest laptop I have ever used and I would never buy anything else in the future.
So this is def not an apple bashing thread these are purely my direct experiences and fancied writing them down
In my opinion, both these platforms are slick, stable and secure, with thousands of apps available. Android is undoubtedly more customisable; iOS, you might argue, is a little more polished (especially on tablets). Visually they're quite distinctive too, taking different design approaches.
I prefer Android, and I think I always will prefer Android. I always was a Google & Android fanboy, and the fact that I mostly use only Google service, proves I couldn't be an iPhone user. Also, iOS is not open-source, which blocks customization and more. Plus, I don't like Siri

To be honest that was the turning point for me, I did use any of apples apps all Google, they're leagues ahead, def proud to be a Google fanboy
I find iPhones to be slow, unstable, unreliable, unpolished, counter-intuitive and extremely limited. They have mediocre cameras, mediocre screens, crappy battery life, and NO MICROSD SLOT. Also, iOS is very difficult to use and SIRI SUCKS. I don't want all these problems in a >$750 device that can only run one operating system.
Google Voice may finally be available for the iPhone, but the experience will never be the same as it is on Android. Other iPhone apps always direct you to the default dialer and visual voicemail apps, so even if you want to use Google Voice full time, you have to manually navigate it to yourself. On Android, apps like Google Voice integrate directly with the operating system—if you want to make calls with Google Voice, every call you make from the phone's dialer goes through Google Voice. When you click on a phone number in your browser or in Google Maps, it goes through Google Voice instead of sending you to the wrong dialer. True app integration like this makes using custom phone, SMS, voicemail, and even browser apps absolutely seamless on Android, which is something you won't find on the more locked-down iPhone platform.
I should add that to my rant. I appreciate some of what Apple has done (most of it happened before I was born), but locking down everything is not one of them. Apple would've gone broke if it wasn't for their iPod. Part of the reason: Locking their stuff like that and being proprietary. Also, Apple products are not compatible with my real-world personality. I like freedom and to have control over what I own, and Apple products look, feel, and function like someone else's device. I want my stuff to look, feel, and function like my stuff. So I guess I am an Apple hater, but I won't yet call myself an Android fanboy. And, no, I am not the one person in the world with a Windows phone. I hate Windows for different reasons. So I guess I can only enjoy using a Linux-based OS on desktop and laptop computers. And OSes like Android and Sailfish on mobile.
In case you want a summary of what I said, you can call me an Apple and/or MS hater, or a Linux lover, I don't care. But don't call me an Android fanboy. I like Android, but I am willing to try other OSes if they fit my personality of freedom, customization, simplicity, transparency, and reliability.
of course android=open source!!!
andriod are more customable and modable
At that moment using both iOS and Android. The only thing i really hate about android is that after some time device starting to perform really poor lagging freezing and so on and you cannot fix it by doing hard reset wiping all your data, it helps a little but its barely helps. So i cannot recommend to buy for inexperienced users android devices for a long term use. Long story short, i bought nexus 7 tablet when it was just released, it was super fast and smooth. Didn't install any os updates on it and after 1 year i couldn't enjoy it anymore, constantly lagging. Never experienced the same with iOS, always smooth, but yeah it has lots of limitations.
Nexus devices are meant to be tinkered with so they will slow down unless you mess with them. My cheap tablet had no noticeable slowdown in 4 years. iOS doesn't slow down because it is already slow.
Daniel Marchena recently wrote an article for XDA that relates to this topic and I think he made some good points on Android vs IOS. What it comes down to for me though is the fun of hacking the device. I personally had a lot of fun jailbreaking the iPhone, and iMessage is some of the coolest stuff ever. Although after switching to Android I don't think I'm ever going to go back. It's nicer being encouraged to play with Android then playing cat and mouse with Apple.
both are very different working platform, I use to be a IOS user iPhone 2g but after iPhone 4s i made a desicion to switch to android, with android has so much possibilites, you can do more with an android then an iPhone, iPhone is pretty basic and yeah a child could use... One thing i noticed is that gaming on an Iphone is much better with good FPS.. there hardware is so much optimized with the software.. currently using S7 edge and really happy with it, except some minor issues.. Glad to have a headphone jack though
