CWM recovery problem? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, i just recently rooted my i9000m with psneuter on superoneclick, easy stuff, i came from a desire z so in comparison the root process was much easier, anyways i
went to rom manager, flashed CWM, reboot into recovery, and voila, stock 3e recovery, no reinstall packages option, and apply update.zip not working. What's wrong?

baseband version I9000UGJL2 btw

crap just realized this is in wrong section, please disregard

Facing the same problem here. It seems the froyo has recovery 3e which doesnot allow the unsigned zips to flash. U need to get 2e recovery to flash clockworkmod and then you can install the custom roms, backup and restore etc etc....
There is a video tutorial on you tube using speedmod kernel and Odin to get recovery 2e in stock 2.2...

[Q] ClockworkMod Recovery doesn't work

Hi everyone.
I installed ROM Manager and flashed ClockworkMod Recovery, but even though the phone said it successfully flashed it, when I enter recovery mode I get the stock recovery. I even tried using the apply sdcard:update.zip option, but it gives me an error:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I even considered installing Amon RA's recovery, but there doesn't seem to be a version compatible with this phone. What should I do? Is there another recovery you'd suggest me to install? If not, what can I do to get the ClockworkMod Recovery to work? Any help would be much appreciated
You must have recovery 3e. Oh well, just flash hardcore's speedmod latest kernel in the Android development section via Odin to get cwm.

Sorry if my questions are too basic, but I'm a new Android user.

When I enter the stock recovery mode, it says Android system recovery <3e>. Does that mean anything?

On the creator's blog it says that SpeedMod "works on all stock Froyo ROMs XXJPO/DXJPA/XWJPA and popular custom ROMs", although his thread doesn't state so. My ROM is Froyo I9000BUJP7; am I safe installing this kernel? Also, I don't know if it matters, but my phone is network locked.
Thanks for your help.
The reason you can't flash cwm is because you have recovery 3e which does not allow unsigned .zip
You must have 2e recovery. There is a way to get 2e but you gotta search for it. I'm on the road driving so I am a bit pre occupied to search for you.
Easiest way for you is to flash the latest speedmod kernel via Odin.

As android.francis said your best bet is to flash a kernel with 2e. I use cf root it always does the job for me.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
I am having the same issue, now installed the Speedmod kernel, how can I enter the CWR now?!
My stock recovery still says 3e
Hello,
I had the same problem and I used cf root too. It works very well and if you use a stock rom you will find the rigth kernel there. I only had some problems to find the rigth kernel for my branding firmeware, because this I flashed a stock rom before and after cf root.
Clockwordmod Rom Mgr boots into 3e but up button/power/menu button boots speedmod 2e.
Here is a weird one I think. I installed stock JVH 2.3.3 (from wuala site I9000XWJVH.7z) which I rooted with CF-Root (CF-Root-WX_NEE_JVH-v3.2-CWM3RFS.tar) and then applied Speed mod (speedmod-kernel-k15h-t24-300hz.tar). If I press the 3 button combination I get the speedmod 2e recovery and can backup and restore, install update.zips and reformat partitions to ext4 just fine. So far so good. All updates performed using ODIN.
Here is the problem. I installed a 'paid for' version of ClockworkMod Rom manager (from the market) but when I select backup or 'reboot into recovery' I get the stock 3e kernel and it fails.
Any ideas?
Thanks

My SGS Overwrites CWM with 2e???

Hi there,
I have an unusual problem with my SGS. I can't access any other recovery other than 3e or 2e. I tried Odin to flash BusyBox, grating 2e, that's ok, but when installing Vodoo with Clockwork update.zip , even installing the vodoo kernell directly with Odin, I never get the ClockWorldMod Recovery , instead I get the 2e standard recovery, but the kernell is effectively installed
¿¿Someone has any clue of what's hapening??
Thanks!
Try the 3 button combo to go to recovery mode

ROM manager and Installing Darkys ROM

I have Samsung Galaxy s i9000 Froyo 2.2, Rooted with Z4root and lagfixed with OCLF. I have downloaded the Darkys ROM 9.2extreme Edition and also the Darkys ROM configurator from market. I have flashed the clockworkmod recovery by using ROM manager. And backed up the data by titanium backup (free version) . Now if I have to flash the Darkys rom from SD card using the ROM manager will I have a problem with recovery 2e? Or it is better to flash the Darkys ROM by Odin?.....Really confused and want to make decision...don't want a brick and data loss...

Either is good. Flash the CWM version using 'install ZIP from SD Card' in CWM (use the three button recovery to get there). The other option is to flash with ODIN using the 512 PIT and the ODIN version. The ODIN version requires first flashing with ODIN, the flashing again with the CWM version, but produes a 'cleaner' install.
Make sure you undo your lagfix first
Thanks guys

Yeah resurrection seems to be better for moving from the stock rom to darkys. I have decided to go for the cleaner Odin flashing. Can I flash clockworkmod recovery by using ROM manager? The official Darkys site has mentioned rom manager as an option to installing CMW in their prerequisites section. But in the custom rom installation guide they have given the steps to copy the update.zip file, enter the recovery mode by 3 button combo and then manually flash twice to get CMW. Which one is the better? ROM manager seems simpler for flashing CMW.....

If you flash Resurrection you have no need for ROM Manager as the ROM includes Clockwork Mod already.

OK if I flash darkys resurrection, then would I have to root with CF root to get recovery 2e?or I can skip that step? I think the resurrection tutorial at xda has not mentioned it.

Not yet. Just flashed the clockworkmod from the rom manager. And went straight for the back up current rom. But the rom doesn't back up and it still shows recovery 3e...

Is it because of the 3e recovery? Do I need to flash some kernel like speedmod or CF root to get recovery 2e?

[Q] clockwork and voodoo kernel issue

Hello.
So i've got a problem with my I9000.
I've upgraded it to froyo, official release, so i'm stuck with the 3e recovery.I recently flashed the voodoo lagfix kernel via Odin. I would like to get clockwork recovery to replace 3e, but I understand i have to flash it via Odin, too. My question is : Is clockwork's kernel going to replace voodoo? If so, how can i have them both?
Thanks a lot in advance.
if you upgrade offical froyo then u must first do a root..the root files can be find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108...download correct root for your firmwire phone...then flash it tru odin..when u done with that u must download a rom manager from market...and install it to get clockwork mode =)
I wouldn't follow the previous poster's advice.
If you're going to use cwm, why do you want stock firmware? Try flashing speedmod kernel to get cwm, which has built in root and lagfix accesable from recovery. Or just go to a custom fw like docrom kitchen.
Best procedure for going custom with the sgs is a single flash of speedmod w/ cwm from odin, and then flash anything else via cwm.

Hi Guys
I'm trying to flash cwm on my gf's i9000 running frojo & android backup 3e using this method.

EDIT Buildnumber FROYO.XWJPF
EDIT2: I just installed Build XXJPO, and flashed the ‘CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPO-v1.2-Busybox' via Odin, now the above merthod worked.
