Researched, unsure what to do... - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a i9000m , I had Darkys Rom on it and it was running fine no signs of SD failure or anything but I was having trouble with my texting so I factory reset the phone. When I did that it went into an endless Galaxy S boot. So I got it into Download mode and tried to flash a JK4 Rom through Odin. It installed fine, but again endless boot. I read somewhere to try Eugenes Froyo 2.2 Rom and I installed that through Odin and my phone came back to life. Now I have some problems, I cannot get back into Download mode with 3 button combo, and big issue is that when I plug my USB in the phone shuts off immediately. Will not turn on at all with USB plugged in. I have USB debugging disabled. Whats happening? Can I possibly get back into download mode...is there anything I can do?

[Q] captivate wont boot up after i9000 jp3 firmware odin flash

i recently flashed my samsung captivate with i9000 froyo jp3 firmware, with the i9000 pda and csc with odin..everything was working fine except obviously sound bug and no home button, but i restarted it today and it wont get past the galaxy s screen and then goes black and randomly vibrates. was unable to enter download mode, im holding volume up and down together and then plug in usb but it wont go to download mode and just brings up battery charging screen, since this is only way to get to download mode to flash back since i cant boot up the device completely to run usb mass storage to run adb....any ideas or anything im doing wrong to get into download mode? or is my captivate now bricked? i was gonna try deleting user data but i dont want to enter recovery mode cause its running i9000 firmware so i wouldnt be able to select anything or is there another way that im not thinking of?
okay got it into download mode, since its i9000 firmware i had to hold down power+volume down to enter download mode.
also im running on jf6 rom and market doesnt seem to working all the time, and sometimes in the notification bar it pops up with random downloads from the market but they say download unsuccessful, but i never clicked any of them to start downloading, anyone have that happen to them before....this phone has been great but lately ive noticed alot of software problems with it especially from the android market, is this typical of the captivate or should i think about a warranty replacement?

Hello maxxis.
I actually run in to this all of the time. Odin *never* works the first time for me. It basically hangs and I have to screw with unplugging and plugging in my phone.
Do not take this as advice, this is what I have done and it works on my phone:
0) Make sure the 3 button combo gets you in to download mode. If not, stop, find a 3 button fix and make sure it works or make a jig: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841512
1) Start Odin. Wait for it to get ready.
2) Put your phone in download mode
3) Plug in your phone to a USB cable connected to the BACK of your MOTHERBOARD - no add-in cards, hubs, front ports or any other nonsense.
4) Try to flash with Odin. If it hangs, remove your phone, reboot and put back in download mode and try again. Do not unplug it if it is doing anything.
This usually works on my second or third try. Good luck!
You need to do a master clear. Or format the internel SD. Then flash vibrant rom.
Or try his post lol. I was too slow i guess
but i have captivate if i flash vibrant rom again it will not work correctly

[Q] Updating to Official Froyo Problem

I've been having many problems with updating my Captivate to Froyo using Samsungs' Kies Mini. I'm up to the point in where it downloads the new firmware, then when it's done it says that it cant be upgraded. My phone isn't rooted and I used Odin to return back to stock. Any ideas?
Check to make sure that usb debugging is enabled I just had the same problem and that fixed it
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Tried it, but still didn't work.
Edit:
Just thought I throw this out there, mounting it while in debugging mode doesn't work either.
You need to be in download mode at that point.
connect USB to Computer
remove battery from phone
replace battery
hold down both volume buttons
insert micro USB into phone
*Download Mode!*
Hope that helps.
I dont think you have to go into download mode. Kies doesn't recognize it.
clemmie knows what he's talking about. worked for me first time.
When would I go into download mode? And sorry for doubting you
when it tells you to.
The thing is when it's done downloading the update, it says that my phone cant be updated and to take out the battery, put it back in, and try again.
Hi:
I was wondering if there is anywhere that the update can be downloaded and then installed through Clockwork.
Thanks!

master clear cannot revert your phone to 2.1 if you are on 2.2. you need to use odin to flash back.
I upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 through Mini Kies, I must have missed some step or it is not updated completely.
On restart on the phone, it hangs at the Galaxy S startup screen. If have to press the Power button to bring up the HOME screen
Cannot connect to Market any longer
It is very slow as well
Steps used to update 2.2
Installed Mini Kies on my system
Upgrade option was used, SGH went into download mode, installed and restarted, but did nothing after that
I removed the battery inserted it back, also used the VOL buttons to go into DOWNLOAD mode
It did nothing in the download mode, had to remove the batter again and restart after waiting for a while
It shows FIRMWARE version as 2.2.
Have I missed any step, any suggestions?

Black screen,no power!!!

Ok guys, i tried using the 3 button fix odin and the computer got stuck on downloading the pit file to the phone in download mode. i walked out of the room for a few minutes and came back in and my computer had shut down and it was in the middle of downloading.CRAP!!!!!I tried turning on the computer back on and getting back to odin but odin wont recognize the phone now. it won't even turn on.HELP PLEASE!
If you pull the battery and try to restart, does anything happen?
What rom were you on? Have you tried to any other methods to get download mode (adb or jig)?
tried every method to get into download mode. i was running serendipity 6.4 trying to upgrade to serendipity VII. tried to go into download mode directly from 6.4 to download the gb bootloaders and it semi bricked my phone the other day but finally got it into download mode and was able to get back to stock eclair. then i went and flashed 6.4 again. i liked 6.4 alot but i really wanted to see what serendipity VII was like because of GB. i pulled the battery, tried all the button combos, everything with no help. if i take this back to att will they just swap it out because it's still under warranty or should i just consider myself screwed?
You're definitely not out of luck - at this point, you could either look into jtag recovery or try att. Either option has downsides (financially or morally), but you do have options.
well i guess when i get in from offshore from work i'll take my phone to att and ask them to see if they can get my phone to turn on and if not they can replace it. we'll see

[Q] Captivate ROM Error

Ok, so I hard bricked my Captivate, used the Radioshack homemade jig to force it into download mode, and flashed Gingerbread 2.3.6 XXJVU. After further research, I realized I wanted to downgrade to 2.3 for a more effective custom ROM flash, so I flashed a stock Eclair 2.1 ROM using Odin one click (with bootloaders, I'm assuming). The flash was successful as far as Odin was concerned, but now the phone gets stuck in a boot loop for quite some time. If I let the loop run its course, it will eventually load the 2.1 ROM, but the phone will power off after about 5 seconds after I plug either a USB cable OR a charger (the charger is recognized as a USB cord by the phone). I cannot get the phone into recovery or download mode; the 10 plus button combinations do not work, and the jig sends it into the boot loop. I even tried holding the volume down key through the entire boot loop sequence, but it never stops (as opposed to not holding the volume down key, where it boots eventually). I tried reformatting the internal SD card, and I looked into putting it into download mode through ADB, but I do not have it installed and even if I did, I can't get the phone to stay on while connected via USB. The computer even recognizes it through USB until the phone shuts off. Through much research, I've come to the conclusion that I must re-brick my phone somehow from within the stock ROM I have installed. I have no idea if this is even possible or if it's the right solution, but I'm at the end of the line at this point. Any suggestions to help with this?

No such thing as "more effective custom ROM flash". All you need is stock GB with GB bootloaders.
You need to get to Download mode and flash stock GB. Tons of information in this forum, please read it.
I've been browsing these forums for days for information on this subject, and none of the solutions I've found fix my problem.
And where exactly did you read you need to downgrade 2.3.x to 2.1 in order to flash a custom ROM?
Calm down, turn the phone off and leave it on a charger for few hours in order to recharge the battery. Disconnect the charger, remove the battery, remove SIM and SD. Reinstall battery only, hold both volume keys and plug the phone to the PC. See Download mode now?
I didn't read that I needed to downgrade, but the guides I was reading were one click solutions for root and flash for 2.3, and I guess should've ignored them and done it manually. I did a one click on a #1110 phone, which is why it's now acting lame, I assume.
Ha, I am pretty calm. I have a Verizon Galaxy S that I've been using to charge the battery, since my AT&T Captivate won't even charge the battery via USB or straight charger when it's off, so it's pretty full. I've tried every method, including the one you just mentioned, and none of them work to bring me to download mode.

I've had that thread open in my browser for the past 2 days, and have tried everything it suggests multiple times.
^
Have ya tried to make a Jig ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9238587&postcount=1
The jig I used to get it from fully bricked state into download mode would put it back into the boot loop. I solved my problem with the adb reboot download command. I managed to activate the command before the phone randomly shut off, as it does when I insert the USB cable. Thanks everyone!
