Here's a chat I had with a Dell rep earlier today. If this is true, I may hop on board early!

Welcome to Dell US Chat! My name is Marivel and I will be your Dell.com Sales Chat Expert. I can be reached at [email protected] or via the team voice mail at 1-800-289-3355 ext. 7284516. How can I help you today?
Marivel_Ildefonsa_Da
HI [ME]! How are you doing? I hope you are doing great today.
[Me]
Pretty well; yourself?
Marivel_Ildefonsa_Da
I'm great. thank you.
Marivel_Ildefonsa_Da
How can I assist you today?
[ME]
I had a question on the Streak 7. I really love the form factor and the tech specs, but I won't be able to purchase it if it doesn't have Android Honeycomb. Any plans to update this device, and, if so, when?
Marivel_Ildefonsa_Da
I see. let me check on that.
[Me]
Thanks!
Marivel_Ildefonsa_Da
thank you for waiting.
Marivel_Ildefonsa_Da
as per checking, currently do not have an update on when the Streak 7 will have Honeycomb. But Dell and T-mobile are working on to get the update.
[Me]
So, it will be getting the update to Honeycomb at some point?
Marivel_Ildefonsa_Da
Dell is working on it and will issue on an update when there is one.
[Me]
Great; that's what I needed to know. Thanks!
So, no date, but it looks like it's definitely in the works. I can see that, as it hasn't dropped on AOSP, yet. Sorry if this is old news, by the way.
Nice to know the reps are at least saying that. Now if they released the froyo code and gave a estimate for honeycomb that would be awesome.

Hope after honeycomb out we got some Dev interest
Lack of support killing me
Yea i pretty much got the same response kinda vague response though
Have you checked opensource.dell dot com (cant post links yet) ? It seems like they have some sort of kernel for the dell streak 7. Also an email address is on this website for requests
http://opensource.dell.com/
I had that convo with dell in Feb, got the same response. The way I see it there just buying time I just hope were rewarded for our patience... Hey if not we always have dj steve he is more reliable than dell or tmo.
Follow me on twitter @NyFlyBoi
Checkout my site Flightskoolgrad.blogspot.com
In Sundays newspaper the was a dell insert that advertised the Streak 7 and it said that it would be upgradeable to honeycomb
dj steve will probably finish porting HC over to the S7 before dell and tmo even officially announce the update. and not to mention the performance tweaks that will be included in this will make it better than the stock upgrade.
Their typical client service crap. I wouldn't pay much attention to it.
Only xda dev can save us out of the dessert. And unfortunately this is a blindspot of xda dev here...

I'm running stock right now due to the bluetooth issue. I would love to even see a CM7, GB port on here, since that could use the phone.apk for data calls; not to mention the enhanced copy+paste and the screen off animation (with all the functionality of GB, it's sad that the screen off animation is still my favourite part).
Of course, HC would be even better. GTalk call integration and tablet OS ftw!
Hold on to your pants.

soon as I see a advert saying honeycomb from dell then ill get excited until them imma try to make this old OS work for me
... She couldnt't just say 'yes'?

Well you would have two choices and one is to call dell for them to push the update to you if it happens to come out or wait for the dev version of it to come out, if someone decides to help us and make our little geek dreams come true.
If/when Dell upgrades the T-Mobile S7 to Honeycomb, I'm sure the WiFi model will be, as well. Of course, we have no idea when that will happen.
I called dell two days ago for some trouble shooting. I asked about honeycomb on T-Mobile ds7 they said by end of December everyone should have it and called T-Mobile to confirm what dell said and was confirmed by them as well per me talking to them.

So the support for the streak 7 seems to be pretty poor on xda right now, judging by the <10 posts in the dev section. Is this because its relatively new or is it a sign of non-interest with the devs?
I thought it would an ideal device, since it has the dual core tegra 2, but maybe thats not such a big deal. Im hoping for improvements like bionix gives me on my Vibrant, but I suppose I can just sell this one and put it towards a better tablet later.

Agree.
I think the reason is mainly it is relatively new and it is a tegra 2 dual core tablet.
Everyone has a phone, so a lot of devs are cracking those phones (including Streak 5), but not everyone has a Tablet, or people are very selective when it comes to be a tablet. They may wait for a better tab or just watch for a while.
I actually think with more and more different tablets in the market, Dev resources are divided in an unhealthy way, while Devs for iOS are having only one choice, iOS.
Maybe that's why Google nowadays are gripping tighter on how much a manufacture can customerize on its OS , so that compatibliity cross different android devices get assured.
my two cents.
As a happy streak 7 owner, I am gratefully waiting for DJ's tweak and at the same time will try as much as possible to explore something on my own. =)
I have created a few small business apps, and have been planning and working on another larger Honeycomb tablet app for a little while now.
I hope to have this app completed in the next few weeks, but it is beginning to look like we might not get Honeycomb in time.
I love my Streak 7, only had it a couple of days, but it is now blazing fast. It needed a little bit of cleanup, but so far the battery has been good for me. I used mine all day today, and had greater than 50% battery left by the end of the work day.
I think once its Released to the rest of the world there will be more interest but as we all know we need Developers to keep people interested

I just buy a new dell streak 7 wifi and I wonder it can be upgrade new android OS like honeycomb I can't contact with dell to get information about this. Can some one give me a answers or any idea. thank a lot ^^
Got to wait and see. The device has only been on the market for a few months. Dell is uber slow to at doing ****.
yeah ... we wait for a long time, even galaxy tab have new upgrade android OS . what are dell waitting for ???
Well I am sure the will do so if the want to stay in the market of the android Google devices. Quality service always wins.

I saw what he did on YouTube and its not even close to safe. He is good though for getting most of it done.
Hey guys, Purchased an HD7 about 6 months ago to see what WM7 was like, Wasn't a fan at all and used the phone in total for about 48 hours in the space of that time.
The phone looks brand new and is unlocked to use on any carrier.
Looking for £275 for it including next day signed delivery (all original box and items are also included).
Will post pictures as soon as I get the battery charged and upload them tomorrow probably!
What is it you don't like about the phone.. for one its really good and I would suggest you to wait untill the MANGO update as Its got quiet a lot of improvements and the beta really rocks.

If I'm 100% honest I like the idea of it and how it looks (GUI), but the behind the scenes stuff is terrible and the lack of support for the phone makes me feel like a second class user.
I much prefer what Apple and Google have to offer, but WM7 lags behind majorly for the time being, even mango won't keep me interested (Thats why I waited to long to sell, Mango is not what i'd hoped for)
But I have no use for the phone anyway, I have 3 phones now and I got a cheap HD2 recently for messing around with WM7.
You should be posting this in the Marketplace forums.
Good luck with the sale.

I'm in the Uk and I'm only really interested in cash for it (I have enough bloody phones already haha).
HD7 actually have lots of potentials. If you are not satisfyed with WP7 and can't wait, jailbreak it, apply the no-relock patch and upgrade it way up to Mango Beta 2 and you will be impressed by its system-level Facebook and Twitter intergration. (I'm using it and regreted wasting memory installing the original Twitter and Facebook apps since the OS itself is shipped with veeeeeeeery cool support of them. Try have your contact directly binded with their Facebook and Twitter accounts?)
LOL, It's like everyone here wants me to keep it, But you don't understand....
I already own a Dell streak and an Optimus 3D, I have no need for this phone and could use the money!

That's because a lot of people believe in the platform and see its potential, and truly believe it it something great. I know, I do too.
But yes, it may not be everyone's flavor, so you'd probably have better luck selling stuff in the Marketplace section of the forums if you haven't already.
So the dell streak 10 pro launched today, and it's based off the same tegra chipset as the s7.
In the highly unlikely event that someone in china makes a full dump of the rom mabye it would mean a slightly closer to stock 3.1 rom.
Though the xoom dump is 3.2 and this might still be a step backwards.
The S10 will get 3.2 reasonably soon though, as the dev team has had 3.2 for nearly a month now, they musta gotten it too late to ship with it though.
I have had the Streak 10 Pro in hand for days, it's amazing.
I'd like to dump the 3.1 rom for you guys but someone has to provide proper tools first.
Maybe you can give me some guide?
Who here knows how to do this?

'Reasonably soon' in Dell-speak means 6 months after everyone else is using Ice Cream Sandwich - if you're lucky !
Dell has had 3.2 in the works since early july, if it's launch had been pushed back a couple weeks it likely would have shipped with 3.2 installed

either you can root and dump every partition manually,
or you can use whatever method they used to dump all the partitions on the streak 7, you should check out the threads regarding the stock rom backups for the s7
Try gingerbreak. I know it was confirmed that it rooted the acer a500. Which has 3.1

gingerbreak is not working for Streak 10, I tried several times....

Actually, just to correct you a bit, the Streak 10 Pro has the same Terga CPU as the Iconia A500 and other newer tablets. The Streak 7 uses the older "Harmony" version of the Tegra 2, which AFAIK has NO devices running an official Honeycomb release, yet.
Also, just because it's from Dell as well doesn't mean the S10Pro is closer in hardware to the S7 than the Xoom is.
The best idea for the S7 is just to wait a couple weeks until the official release of HoneyComb on the WiFi version of the S7 and then just add the 3G services back in.
One last thing: anyone can easily make a ROM dump with a rooted device.

Actually, Gingerbreak does not work on the Iconia running 3.1. I think it may have worked on one of the earlier 3.0 releases though.
We have a tool specifically for rooting the Iconia A500 over in the Iconia forum.

My bad that it was the 3.0 builds.

Gingerbreak requires a SD card but the OS of Streak 10 is 3.1, which cannot read SD card yet......
What do you mean 3.1 can't read SD cards? My Iconia running 3.1 reads my SD card just fine?
But AFAIK, Google fixed the Gingerbreak exploit in Gingerbread 2.3.3 and Honeycomb 3.1
Sent from Vera, my Iconia A500; All dressed up going places!
Dell says that, and it's true.
Anyone know when the pro 10 is making its way to the states?
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Actually there's no way to root this device for now
We are not able to this, is there any dev can give us some guide?
Got it
Had one of my friends bring me one back from China.
It seems strangely locked down. No Android market or even a option to add a google account.
I'll happily assist XDA in anyway possible, just let me know what you want
In the meantime, is there any way that I can get Market on (should be possible to side-load it from somewhere, right?)
Dell Streak 10 Pro
Andriod 3.1
Kernel 2.6.36.3-00003-g9e0ffef
Build 201107220948
OEM ver GALLO1A154615
it's been stated that the s10 wont have any gapps included, you will need to manually sideload market and it's dependencies into it to make it work
Could you make a NV flash dump before playing around with it? I intend to myself when i recieve mine (which may be a while) but if something goes wrong it couldnt hurt to make one asap
No android devices from China come with the Google Apps.
No surprise there.

Good call. Any ideas on how I actually do that?
I assume that i need to "nvflash --getpartitiontable" and "nvflash --read [partition] [partitionfile]", but I'm stuck at "USB device not found" and guessing I need to get it into recovery mode, but the usual tricks doesn't help (vol- nothing, vol+ nothing, vol[both] "safe mode"??)
Tried some goggling, but not much to go on (A-ROM noob - used to play with WME)
You'll just have to read up on how to do it on the s10, I dont have any tegra 2 devices myself so i've never used nvflash. Follow the directions for the s7 as it's more or less the same device but larger
If it's stuck because it cant find the drivers, try manually force installing the s7 ones. It will complain but for the moment it should work. If you're only doing reads and no writes worst case it should merely make bad dumps and shouldnt harm your device.
When 3.2 comes out for the s10 I'll dump the contents of the pkg (assuming it still uses pkgs) and prep a recovery image. But preinstalled roms (especially the initial rom) are not available as pkgs. A nv flash backup is the only way to properly back it up. (A nandroid comes close, but it doesnt dump everything, just as much a custom recovery isnt available yet anyway)
Hi guys I am planning to buy a Streak 7 from ebay and I want to know how up to date the versions of Android are on this device so I hit google.
I found this page from Dell's site (article is date Oct 7, 2011)
http://en.community.dell.com/dell-b...id-3-2-honeycomb-update-to-dell-streak-7.aspx
"This week, Dell officially began rolling out the Google Honeycomb 3.2 update for the Streak 7 tablet. Here is the breakdown of the models that we will receive the update:
Streak 7 Tablet + Google’s Android 3.2 = Honeycomb OS optimized for 7-inch tablets
We will support the Honeycomb upgrade via an over-the-air (OTA) update for the following:
Customers with unlocked Streak 7 units
Customers with Wi-Fi only Streak 7 units"
Did Dell ever follow through on this.
I ask because from reading the threads here Dell is famous for not updating their devices.
Thanks in advance gents.

Yes they updated the wifi version. You would have to root to easily update the T-Mobile one.

It was moved by the mods. I guess they decided it didn't need a post from them saying they moved it. Thus why my post makes no sense in its current context.
Thanks to the mods who moved the old thread and deleted the new one.
I am curious. Does the Honeycomb version of the Streak Seven have hardware acceleration for video?
