So the dell streak 10 pro launched today, and it's based off the same tegra chipset as the s7.
In the highly unlikely event that someone in china makes a full dump of the rom mabye it would mean a slightly closer to stock 3.1 rom.
Though the xoom dump is 3.2 and this might still be a step backwards.
The S10 will get 3.2 reasonably soon though, as the dev team has had 3.2 for nearly a month now, they musta gotten it too late to ship with it though.
I have had the Streak 10 Pro in hand for days, it's amazing.
I'd like to dump the 3.1 rom for you guys but someone has to provide proper tools first.
Maybe you can give me some guide?
Who here knows how to do this?

'Reasonably soon' in Dell-speak means 6 months after everyone else is using Ice Cream Sandwich - if you're lucky !
Dell has had 3.2 in the works since early july, if it's launch had been pushed back a couple weeks it likely would have shipped with 3.2 installed

either you can root and dump every partition manually,
or you can use whatever method they used to dump all the partitions on the streak 7, you should check out the threads regarding the stock rom backups for the s7
Try gingerbreak. I know it was confirmed that it rooted the acer a500. Which has 3.1

Actually, just to correct you a bit, the Streak 10 Pro has the same Terga CPU as the Iconia A500 and other newer tablets. The Streak 7 uses the older "Harmony" version of the Tegra 2, which AFAIK has NO devices running an official Honeycomb release, yet.
Also, just because it's from Dell as well doesn't mean the S10Pro is closer in hardware to the S7 than the Xoom is.
The best idea for the S7 is just to wait a couple weeks until the official release of HoneyComb on the WiFi version of the S7 and then just add the 3G services back in.
One last thing: anyone can easily make a ROM dump with a rooted device.

Actually, Gingerbreak does not work on the Iconia running 3.1. I think it may have worked on one of the earlier 3.0 releases though.
We have a tool specifically for rooting the Iconia A500 over in the Iconia forum.

My bad that it was the 3.0 builds.

Gingerbreak requires a SD card but the OS of Streak 10 is 3.1, which cannot read SD card yet......
What do you mean 3.1 can't read SD cards? My Iconia running 3.1 reads my SD card just fine?
But AFAIK, Google fixed the Gingerbreak exploit in Gingerbread 2.3.3 and Honeycomb 3.1

Dell says that, and it's true.
Anyone know when the pro 10 is making its way to the states?

We are not able to this, is there any dev can give us some guide?
Got it
Had one of my friends bring me one back from China.
It seems strangely locked down. No Android market or even a option to add a google account.
I'll happily assist XDA in anyway possible, just let me know what you want
In the meantime, is there any way that I can get Market on (should be possible to side-load it from somewhere, right?)
Dell Streak 10 Pro
Andriod 3.1
Kernel 2.6.36.3-00003-g9e0ffef
Build 201107220948
OEM ver GALLO1A154615
it's been stated that the s10 wont have any gapps included, you will need to manually sideload market and it's dependencies into it to make it work
Could you make a NV flash dump before playing around with it? I intend to myself when i recieve mine (which may be a while) but if something goes wrong it couldnt hurt to make one asap
No android devices from China come with the Google Apps.

Good call. Any ideas on how I actually do that?
I assume that i need to "nvflash --getpartitiontable" and "nvflash --read [partition] [partitionfile]", but I'm stuck at "USB device not found" and guessing I need to get it into recovery mode, but the usual tricks doesn't help (vol- nothing, vol+ nothing, vol[both] "safe mode"??)
Tried some goggling, but not much to go on (A-ROM noob - used to play with WME)
You'll just have to read up on how to do it on the s10, I dont have any tegra 2 devices myself so i've never used nvflash. Follow the directions for the s7 as it's more or less the same device but larger
If it's stuck because it cant find the drivers, try manually force installing the s7 ones. It will complain but for the moment it should work. If you're only doing reads and no writes worst case it should merely make bad dumps and shouldnt harm your device.
When 3.2 comes out for the s10 I'll dump the contents of the pkg (assuming it still uses pkgs) and prep a recovery image. But preinstalled roms (especially the initial rom) are not available as pkgs. A nv flash backup is the only way to properly back it up. (A nandroid comes close, but it doesnt dump everything, just as much a custom recovery isnt available yet anyway)

Hi,
Anybody knows when Android 2.3 will be available for Samsung Galaxy?
Thanks.
I've only heard of one date and that was late feb, so its going to be more like May

Yes Samsung are going to release a successor due to how well it did.
They would be silly to leave it.
probs nothing till late Q2 I can image though
Mark Feb 14th in your diary to find out what.
Cheers for reply guys
Would you recommend still getting the device? I have been Googling the galaxy s 2 . it seeems that the specs will be much better (dual-core!!) So i probably won't be able to afford it. So would you still recommend herring the galaxy s? will it still have a good support (+1 year)
Or do you think i should just stick with my TG01 + SGT?
Is there a way to install Android 2.3 manually onto the Galaxy S without losing the functionlities? After some google'ing I found some info, but some functionalities are missing, like Wifi, GPS etc.

Hm, I'm less than convinced that the leaked Galaxy S 2 specs are real.
Get the nexus s unless you want better bluetooth and camera. Also gingerbread from source looks to be done in a month at least.

I just moved from my G1 to a galaxy s last month. Due to getting a 16gb one for £100.
With lagfix and over clocking it is the fastest phone I've used. ( I repair phones so have used a lot)
If you can get one at the right price its worth it. But if you want to wait for the next OS you will wait forever. Google seem to put updates out every other month. So there is always but this phone has version what ever.
If you like the hardware go for it. If you want Google updates get a nexus.

I had a question on the Streak 7. I really love the form factor and the tech specs, but I won't be able to purchase it if it doesn't have Android Honeycomb. Any plans to update this device, and, if so, when?
Marivel_Ildefonsa_Da
I see. let me check on that.
[Me]
Thanks!
Marivel_Ildefonsa_Da
thank you for waiting.
Marivel_Ildefonsa_Da
as per checking, currently do not have an update on when the Streak 7 will have Honeycomb. But Dell and T-mobile are working on to get the update.
[Me]
So, it will be getting the update to Honeycomb at some point?
Marivel_Ildefonsa_Da
Dell is working on it and will issue on an update when there is one.
[Me]
Great; that's what I needed to know. Thanks!
So, no date, but it looks like it's definitely in the works. I can see that, as it hasn't dropped on AOSP, yet. Sorry if this is old news, by the way.
Nice to know the reps are at least saying that. Now if they released the froyo code and gave a estimate for honeycomb that would be awesome.

Yea i pretty much got the same response kinda vague response though
Have you checked opensource.dell dot com (cant post links yet) ? It seems like they have some sort of kernel for the dell streak 7. Also an email address is on this website for requests
http://opensource.dell.com/
I had that convo with dell in Feb, got the same response. The way I see it there just buying time I just hope were rewarded for our patience... Hey if not we always have dj steve he is more reliable than dell or tmo.
Follow me on twitter @NyFlyBoi
Checkout my site Flightskoolgrad.blogspot.com
In Sundays newspaper the was a dell insert that advertised the Streak 7 and it said that it would be upgradeable to honeycomb
dj steve will probably finish porting HC over to the S7 before dell and tmo even officially announce the update. and not to mention the performance tweaks that will be included in this will make it better than the stock upgrade.
Their typical client service crap. I wouldn't pay much attention to it.
Only xda dev can save us out of the dessert. And unfortunately this is a blindspot of xda dev here...

I'm running stock right now due to the bluetooth issue. I would love to even see a CM7, GB port on here, since that could use the phone.apk for data calls; not to mention the enhanced copy+paste and the screen off animation (with all the functionality of GB, it's sad that the screen off animation is still my favourite part).
Of course, HC would be even better. GTalk call integration and tablet OS ftw!

Well you would have two choices and one is to call dell for them to push the update to you if it happens to come out or wait for the dev version of it to come out, if someone decides to help us and make our little geek dreams come true.
If/when Dell upgrades the T-Mobile S7 to Honeycomb, I'm sure the WiFi model will be, as well. Of course, we have no idea when that will happen.
I called dell two days ago for some trouble shooting. I asked about honeycomb on T-Mobile ds7 they said by end of December everyone should have it and called T-Mobile to confirm what dell said and was confirmed by them as well per me talking to them.
This guy may give me a 7' Samsung Galaxy Tab White today. Just wanted to know...can that one get Honeycomb 3.0 on it it without ROOTING? Will it OTA update to Honeycomb????
60 something looks...and no one knows. Guess the answer is no since i don't see it anywhere on google that it says yes. Even tho i saw some kind of Honeycomb Port its suppose to have. Think its for the bigger 8.9 and above tho.
I do not think anyone but Samsung knows the answer. From hardware there should not be any problem to get honeycomb or ics. But it up to Samsung to give an official update or not.

most of the 7" tabs on the market have a 2.3.x update available (think the Wifi only p1010 is the exception so far) so Gingerbread is there. Now will we see an "official" ICS update? who knows.. but at this point i doubt it. HC, nope..

Well..they said the Galaxy has 3.0....but only the 10.1 inch one. He said as far as the 7 inch Tabs..1st he said yes. Then i go " Are you sure...because most still has 2.2"
Then he goes "They cant say right now..because they may say one thing..and it may not happen". Not far to us they said. But if the 7 inch dont have 2.3 now..i doubt they will get any higher. Im not getting the 7inch from the dude after all. He doesnt want to trade.

Samsung Kies is a software used to manage your device.
It handles the firmwares updates, backups and stuff like that.
You can download it from Samsung website.
As for the official honeycomb for the 7", if I were you, I wouldn't expect it...
Anyway, it's actually pretty easy to flash a rom, do some reading and you'll see it's really really easy...
I have the same issue. I dont mind rooting it. There are several confusing directions to upgrade to Honeycomb from Froyo. Can anyone point at the right link?
Hello guys...
I'm new to this forum and new to Galaxy Tab. 8.9 and new to Android system.
The tab is at home and I didn’t even unpack it.
I'm kind of a person that likes to explore and change setting and stuff.
The first thing in my mind now is to boot the tab and update Android version, as I think it comes with 3.0 version and I guess there was an update came on after that.
But from your experience as 8.9 owners and once you were new to it.
What things should I do to it? update what? Disable what? Charging maybe? Tweak sensitivity? [if there is a feature like that!].
What not to change? not to delete? not to disable?
Any tip will be appreciated and it will definitely be new to me as a person never had an Android device and leaving iphone soon for a Samsung device

It is Samsung Galaxy tab 8.9, Wi-Fi.
Where to start...
An OTA (Over the Air) update is a good start as 3.2 is the latest and 4.0 Ice cream sandwich is on the way.
Out of the box, the Galaxy tab is very good without customization. I'd spend my time getting used to the interface and putting my main info on Widgets and syncing everything. There is so much to customize. You will soon learn what you like and what annoys. From there, you can look at some of the things you don't like and tweak. I would leave rooting till a little later just till you get used to things and ics is coming soon. Good idea to see stock issues first but Xda is a great source of info if you want to go down that path.

1) root it (see the XDA forum, it's all perfectly explained there)
2) install cwm
3) backup stock rom
4) install Overcome, or one of the two ICS roms
5) setcpu, auto memory killer, voodoo screen utility
6) have fun

I know it's not really quick and easy but don't forget manufacturers received early versions of the source around May (when it was officially announced). In all honestly I was mostly hoping for 3.2 since I've heard it helps performance but it would be really nice to get a date for ICS.

Not actually strange. The US region (yes, Sammy releases ROMs in a region basis) hasn't received official 3.2 as of this day, but most of Europe has already, along with other regions (Asia for example). I really dislike how they manage updates. Thankfully we have devs on our side. I can't imagine being stuck with 3.1 firmware.

So apparently Android 5 is coming in q2, before lg even gets ics out. I knew this would be the case with this phone, we might get ICS but that glory will only last a couple of months. I would have got the google phone if they just put a damn SD card in there.

Says it isn't for phones though. Also, original source is digitimes which is a bit pants.
Well to be fair google are pretty fast at rolling out these OS's, they release the sources to carriers ect to make their roms then by the time the carriers have rolled out an update google are talking of releasing a new version, they cant win really and it also says jellybean is mainly if not exclusively for tablets so use your brain and quit whining.
Jellybean is only for tablets! It's like honeycomb
Why would they make a seperate version for tablets since they brought out ICS to combine the smartphoneversion with the tabletversion?

Agree. Every second version can't be called something with sandwich. Would be kinda stupid.
As it seems to be a dual boot system Android/Chrome, it's certainly more convenient for tablets.. But too soon to say, June is in 4 months.

Actually we don't really bother about when the official update arrives... Never looked back once a person flashes a custom rom
If we get the official update earlier, it is way more easy to build a fully functioning custom rom
