Not sure how good rosetta stone is.
If you've got time and money, you can check out EF. I'm considering this as we speak.
Do you have a tablet, an iPad perhaps? There are a few "good" (never tested them myself ) apps for learning languages for a tablet.
My best bet is Google Translate. Although, it mixes up and messes up the words at times, it can actually be pretty effective.

But can it also learn you the grammar of a new language? I sometimes translate something from a foreign language to Dutch (just for the fun of it) and it doesn't make much sense most of the time....
Google translate won't really teach you that good.

Use Anki for Japanese, or so I've been told.
Best way to learn it is to uproot yourself and live there. Do not speak your own native language, only theirs and soon you'll get the nuances.

I really loved getting to read daily comics on webOS with Comics HD. I only see comic book readers when doing a search for something similar on Android. Has anyone seen an app than works in the same manner by allowing you to read comic strips?

I use an app called 'comic strips '. I got from market (play, now), but I couldn't find it now. It's version 1.7,maybe a google search will turn it up. If you can't find it, post again and I'll put it in Dropbox or something and send you the link.

One issue is that many of the comics aren't licensed to be viewed from an app... In many cases the original artists or publishers find out and shut down the apps, because they're basically being stolen from. Don't know if Comics HD is licensed, or just "flying under the radar" as it were...
But the best way due to that is to add the RSS feeds to google reader and use the Google Reader app.

Yea, that's what i'm using now. It's just a bit cluttered. I loved how Comics HD had it all organized together under one roof. In any case, that's an angle I hadn't considered, and would explain why there isn't anything really close on Android.

This is the app I use.

I tried a few different comic readers but eventually stopped with this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rookiestudio.perfectviewer&hl=en
It has a lot of features and even comes with a shelf like home page.
So over the christmas sales, me and my grandma both treated ourselves to a Kindle Fire HD (bought from different shops) hers came pre loaded with UK and US English dictionarys.
Mine for some reason came with a UK and US English, German, Chinese, Spanish and Japanese (I think?) dictionarys and also came with Oliver twist and Alice In Wonderland books, I've managed to delete them but I can't seem to delete the dictionarys which I don't need?
Any help on how I could do this would be awesome, its just annoying having a bunch of dicitionarys cluttering up my book shelf
Thanks, Jords
I'm from Argentina and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only user from a country where spanish is the main language.
My problem is on XDA TV: I can understand what you say at most parts of the videos, but at other parts I don't.
I'm not requesting you to translate the whole video, or looking for latin america developers.
I think the problem is that I'm used to listen to spanish and when listening to a natural english (not the english teached on schools) I get confused.
But reading english is MUCH easier than listening, so adding subtitles may be a good way to reach more people and increase XDA TV audience!
I hope this info helps you!
good idea

Great idea - Subtitles could help follow along fast too even for native English speakers. :good:
+1 on the subtitles. That would make it nice for low-volume viewing

Youtube has automated Subtitles. Why dont you use that?
It works perfectly if people talk at normal speed.. But some videos (I. E. The guy in 'how a D student became a developer' video) are talked VERY fast and auto-subtitles gets confused..
I vote for subtitles as well. As a person who wears two hearing aids; I never watch any of the XDA videos because of the lack of subtitles.

Have you ever tried the automatic subtitles? They are terrible! (okay, they are good for a laugh to see the randomness it comes up with)
Hi,
I have translated some apps and games into other languages and it has worked really well, i have noticed that my downloads have increased.
I dont have many time for localization exchanges, so i usually use professional translators. I would want to know, if you have tried them, which are the best services to translate the apps and games into other languages.
My experience:
- AppLingua. It is a good service, it works great but it is really expensive. https://applingua.com/
- OnTranslate. This is a new service that i have tried and it has worked great for me. The price for professional translations are the best ones. 0,04 € per word in expert translations is great. http://ontranslate.com/
- Icanlocalize: I have tried ICanLocalize but i am not very satisfied because they have not been fast in the translation. It is also expensive http://www.icanlocalize.com/
- Google Play translation partners: They work correctly too, but they are very very expensive so i think will not try them...
Please share your experience!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing! I've had the experience with Google Translate. It was awful Users compained loudly...
Than I decided to pay. I was looking for an agency that would meet my criteria:
1) have experience doing app translation
2) each translator is NATIVE speaker in the target language
3) reasonable prices
In the end I chose Alconost. Since than I have no problems with localization.
By the by I guess quality and money go hand and hand in this industry, and good job can't be cheap... decide for yourself
