need some help here please, I bought a cricket Zio the guy said it was rooted, but he had set it back.....well come to find out it was still rooted, I tried to do the ota update thats out for the cricket Zio but it keeps saying fota error, so i think he deleted some stuff off there that it needs to do the update......so my ? is can it be but back to stock os with cricket and if so, how would I go about doing it or can a cricket store do it for me. Thanks
Wow, sorry to hear that. You know you can get root for free. By the way CricKet does not support rooting. The only way that would happen is if you get a rep that knows what he/she is doing.

Thanks Mattix for the reply, and yes I know I can get it rooted for free, the trouble is that from where he rooted it, it want let me do the ota update to 2.2 thats out, keep getting an error....he set the phone back to factory and cleared the sd card, I thank he must have deleted somethings off the phone. I just want to know is there a way to get the cricket factory OS back on the phone, Thanks
You can go to the boot loop fix further instructions. You just need to use fastboot to brick your phone by erasing the boot and system images then put your phone in Modem Download Mode and run the update.

ok thanks, but I think I am going to wait and have a friend of mine look at the tread, he's a whole lot more computer savvy then I am when it comes to command prompt and stuff, because I have know idea what all this means lol...... 3. cd to where fastboot.exe is installed. ex:
C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\tools
4. Type the following with a return at the end of each
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase boot
fastboot reboot
Thanks for all your help on getting me on the right track
No prob. If you really need help I might be able to help you via remote access. Don't worry I would never do anything to harm your machine, I worked for AT&T U-verse tech support so I'm legit.

When you get your pc up and running give me a shout,I'll walk ya thru it.
'S-OFF' is more than just changing your splash screen.
It's also a wonderful recovery and testing tool. With the eng-spl you now have access to fastboot (part of the android sdk, usually in tools folder). You no longer need to boot into recovery to flash things (provided they come in .img format). You also can properly wipe your phone via fastboot. If you ever lock yourself out of recovery, a fix is just a fastboot away.
You also allow for flashing via HBoot also, but with fastboot access it's pretty redundant as HBoot requires a bit more work to get ready.
Pretty much, by going S-OFF with the eng-spl, your chances of a bricked phone are slim to none. As long as you can turn the phone on and access fastboot usb mode, you can get your phone working again.
If you want help with fastboot, simply type fastboot from your android sdk \ tools folder or google it.

This is not a development question, can we please move this to Q&A or General?
Also, in case it wasn't already clear:
YOU CAN NOT UPDATE 1.52 TO 1.57. PERIOD.
Someone might at some point pull out the parts of the update and roll it into something you can flash over anything, but I highly doubt it as it's a pain in the ass and doesn't offer much benefit. Just backup your system with TiBu and flash back to 1.2.6, follow the proper procedure, and restore your backup (NOT system apps though). Not really all that hard.
So I had an old cyanogen mod flashed on my phone and nothing was going wrong. I think I flashed it in late November 2010, early December 2010. So I was fine with that and then I got bored. So I flashed the Dilli ROM and the market stopped working so I flashed to Serendipity and that's where the real problem started. Every time I would get a call, I would lose service automatically and the call would fail. I just thought it was a problem with the way I flashed it. So I then flashed the Phoenix ROM hoping that would fix the dialer problem but it didn't. I am currently on the newest phoenix ROM and I can download apps from the market, send and receive texts, make calls and even use the internet. The only thing I can't do is receive calls. I know when a call is coming because the phone starts to ring but before it shows me who is calling, it automatically loses service and fails the call. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Is there anything I can do? Any information would really help. Thank you!!
Have you tried flashing to stock?

The fact that you flashed multiple roms without knowing how to flash back to stock is idiotic. Flashing back to stock is the one thing you should know how to do because it can save your phone.
Read this ENTIRE guide and follow it step by step or you will continue to run into the problems you are having. These anomalies cant be diagnosed by us because your phone probably has files from numerous roms on it by now. Flashing back to stock and using a master clear allows you to diagnose issues much easier.

That's most likely the modem. Find out what modem CM7 uses and as long as it's the same base as you're using now (i9000/i897), find the CWM for that modem and flash it.

You call that a slam? Tearing him apart? You must be a liberal. The ROM-specific stickies are here for a reason. All these posts outside the stickies just make sharing that knowledge you speak of harder. Why is it so hard to comprehend that if there's a sticky with a dedicated subject that maybe that's where any posts on that subject should go? XDA is also about rules and they exist for the benefit of all.
Please use a search before opening a new thread or post rom questions in the provided Q&A rom thread.

Not sure why everyone has overcomplicated this. All you need to do is run one simple exe. Takes 1 minute, phone reboots, and you are rooted. Here's the thread:

That's a false positive. No viruses, it is just a package that lainches the original batch file so Norton flips out. (Surprised ppl are still using Norton though. Avast FTW)
Its kind of.common for Norton to detect a virus with anything that involves modifying something.
