[Q] Can't mount /dev/block/st110 [Solved] - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hoping a kind soul can help a total fool who should have left well alone!
I have a UK Samsung Galaxy S I9000 phone that was unlocked by the previous owner but still had all the "3" branding which I wanted to remove. I was already on ver 2.2 (updated via Kies) although I don't know the exact revision.
After lots of reading (obviously not enough) I followed a guide to reflash via Odin v1.7 to I9000XWJS3 using separate files for PIT (803), PDA, PHONE and CSC. The guide said to tick Re-partition on which might have been the cause of my problem.
Needless to say after the flash, I got the error message "Can't mount /dev/block/st110" and subsequent reboots just give me a black screen. I still had access to the download mode so I tried another posts solution to fix the black screen starting with a flash to I9000XXJPC with a 512 pit and re-partition again. This time the odin process started but no progress bar materialised. After a very long while I disconnected. Thankfully I can still enter the download mode but this time am hoping someone with more knowledge is willing to help me though the process of recovering my phone if its still possible.
Just looking for any stock UK firmware and then I will let Kies update from now on.
Many Thanks
[Solved]
For those that want a quick summary of what restored my phone. Flashing I9000XXJPC with a 512 pit clicking re-partition.

You still can use xxjpc, with repartition ticked. Many a times, odin will fail for no reasons. Try again, but make sure you close Kies completely.

Thanks g00ndu. You gave me the courage to re-run xxjpc again by confirming I was on the right track and this time it worked. Small donation on its way for helping me recover my phone.
I have one further question though. Can someone confirm if the I9000XXJPC firmware is for the UK? I hope to only use Kies from now on but it now says "the version of the device cannot be updated". I am using the latest version 2.0.0.11014_49.
Thanks again
Edit - Kies lists the current firmware version as PDA:JPC / PHONE:JPC / CSC:JPC (KOR). Something tells me I have the wrong country firmware. If anyone can provide a link to the correct one and the Odin settings I should use it would be greatly appreciated.

Still trying to get a solution to this and have noticed that my product code in Kies registry entry is GT-I9000HKDKOR. I am wondering if this is because I used a wrong CSC file?
Any directions would be very welcome.
Thanks

Go to www.samfirmware.com and grab the Europe/UK firmware. Get a 2.2.1. one. All the CSC, Phone, Modem files should be in the package.

Thanks snapper.fishes. I am now downloading I9000XXJPU (512.Pit) - hopefully this one is correct as some of the downloads for 2.2.1 show (803.Pit). As there are no instructions with this I assume I don't click re-partition. Is this correct?
Thanks for the help

This is almost soul destroying....
I ran the update "I9000XXJPU (512.Pit)" as mentioned above and it flashed successfully. I am now on 2.2.1
Re-plugged in the usb cable and no windows popup to view the sd contents and nothing in "My Computer". Kies recognises something has been plugged in but remains on "connecting" - the phone itself shows the usb graphic and "connected".
I then went into Settings -> About Phone and there is no USB Settings option.
And just to rub it in I typed in *2767*4387264636# as per the wiki guide on here to view the Product code and it's still on Korea GT-I9000HKDKOR.
Edit - Have now tried *#1234# and the phone says:
PDA: I9000XXJPU
PHONE: I9000XXJPU
CSC: I9000OXAJPU
Not even sure if this bit helps

In case this is a help to other novices like me with the wrong product code. I found the following info and you don't need to be rooted to run it:
E.g. Changing CSC to XEU: Note - this will only work if the multiCSC was used when firmware was flashed
Type *#272*IMEI# and select XEU to install. (to check IMEI: *#06#)
Phone will reset to the default setting (perform a backup beforehand if req)
XEU = UK's product code
As for the USB issue (no USB Settings menu option in About Phone), is this just a change in the 2.2.1 menus? I noticed a USB Settings menu in "Wireless and network" and they have changed how this works. Kies still refuses to connect to the phone, but maybe this is just Kies.
Thanks

Jpu firmware is broken with kies. I think from memory that jpy and onwards allows that connection.
Jpu wasn't considered a official firmware but it worked incredibly well.bar the kies problem.

Me Too!!
I'm getting the same error the op did.
What happened? I flashed CM7 and it worked fine. I then decided to do a restore with the backup I had made earlier with CWM, this is when **** went wrong. Couldn't boot up after this or get to recovery. Went into download mode and tried to reflash factory firmware. JL2 Andriod 2.2 for Bell Canada I9000. Says successful but just boots to 3e recovery with " /dev/block/st110, (Invalid argument), E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA: "
Below that it says: " your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions. copy default media content failed.
My biggest fear is the dreaded Int.SD card failure, the op gave me hope but same thing after every reflash.
Any suggestion?

I also have a Bell I9000M that did that. After attempting several combinations what ended up working for me was flashing JPU with 512.pit and repartition enabled, modem, PDA and CSC all selected in odin 1.3. That got me a working device. Then flashed JH2 to get recovery 2e back. Then flashed to the ROM I was originally on (Darky's 9.3). After that I flashed a CWM zip for the JL2 modem to get data back.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

Also very important, for JH2 I did PDA only. No pit, no repartition.

Dude you totally saved my bacon. I was dreading the possibility of having to go to Bell. Totally worked, though coolirs media or something keeps force closing but at least the phone is working. Just gonna flash cm7 now since I have to start from scratch anyway.
Thanks again!

Thanks icejagans. Its a relief to know that this is just an incompatibiliy between kies and the JPU firmware. Do you know if there has been an official 2.2.1 firmware available via Kies for UK unbranded I9000s?
Edit - icejagans you're a star, the JPY update fixed the USB oddity I was having and even Kies now connects OK. I will mark this thread as solved.

[need help] Burn JP9 with ODIN 1.0

Hello all,
Currently i'm using a great modded rom (2.2), but i would like to flash to original 2.1 to test my battery, which is quite bad...
CSC that i have now: XEE. I900, rooted
I entered samsung-firmware, and downloaded JM9.
Inside the rar, there is 2 files
MODEM_I9000XXJM4.tar.md5 (12mb)
CODE_I9000XWJM9.tar.md5 (280mb)
They are saying the the pit for this rom should be 512.PIT. downloaded.
The problem is that on top it's written:
What can i do if i have only one file?
If you have one .tar file than is this the PDA version.
When you flash the PDA version everything will work the same like a full firmware.
Thats why many links have only one file!
Please when you have only one file SKIP RE-PARTITION!
Use only .PIT files if you have 3 files!
I don't have 3 files... THE CSC is missing, so i cannot flash if i understand right.
This is my first time flashing via ODIN.
What should i do?
By the way, there should any different in the test between JPG to JM9 ?
Thanks,
Efi

Okay, the modem is well obviously the modem and the code jm9 is the pda use these 2 plus your pit and tick repartition. The csc can be added manually by doing the following after you have flashed. Make sure you factory reset after froyo is installed.

CSC is the file with carrier customizations! It is not mandatory to flash a CSC file!
But if you don't flash it you will have to enter your APN setting manually!
As OrionBG said you can just manually enter apns i just find this easier using the automatic method outlined from that post. They say that the csc file has network specific settings like gps etc not just apns.
Choose the csc that is for your region carrier they are all clearly labelled on that site its very easy to do.

Can i just leave CSC empty in ODIN? i must flash a csc? i cannot just leave it like it is?
I understand what CSC is... but i don't find it in the list... I'm from Israel, how can i know what csc from the list will work for me?
Whats better to test battery stats? JPG or JM9 ?
Thank you
Yes leave it blank. ive never flashed csc with odin. The method i outlined to install csc was to do after you have flashed your rom with odin.
If its not in the list just copy down your apns settings or use apn backup and restore from the market to back them upand save them to external sd or pc.

I looked into APN and i see there only things that are related to 3G/intrenet and not to general calls that go through 2G... why?
You wrote: PDA plus modem plus your pit and tick repartition...
But it's written Use only .PIT files if you have 3 files!... what should i do?
I wasn't thought it will be so hard... What do you think about the kies registry trick?
You also wrote: Make sure you factory reset after you install Froyo. The thing is that i want to install Eclair (JP9) from A modded Froyo, and then test the battery, do root again, clockwork, modded rom, lagfix. that's all...
I think that if i will factory reset it will become simlock... it's a branded phone (movistar) but i have used an unlock key...
Thank you for everything again
What pit did you use last time? if you used 512 then it would be okay not to use one but if you used 803 for froyo then id advise to use pit. As for simlock im not sure hopefully someone else can help with that.

It's my first time flashing with ODIN like i told you
When i got the device i had 2.1, i installed root, rom manager, patched clockwork recovery and installed modded from though "install zip from sdcard'... so i didn't flashed through odin.
Ok i have some updates:
Through Kies the registry hack didn't worked because i'm trying to flash an older version, when i'm using 2.1
Opened ODIN 1.0, did all the things i need to do,
and in options:
Ticked re-partition
PDA - choosed the code
Phone - choosed Modem
CSC - left blank.
Flashed. everything went cool, JM9 is up, the thing is that he remember old apps and lancher pro, and i need to factory reset my phone through recovery. Did -worked.
my csc is XEE, it remain the same. does it mattar? My imei is displayed normally.
Baseband version: I9000XXJM4
Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
Build number: ECLAIR.XWJM9

Galaxy Tab problems after stock restore

I had a UK unlocked (no branding) GT-P1000 Galaxy Tab. I flashed it to a custom gingerbread build on Win7 X64 but later wanted to revert to stock. After a lot of searching I flashed the device with P1000XWJMI. All went fine and device booted back in (with a foreign language set as default but I've changed to English via settings).
When connecting the device to Kies it now says "This version of the device cannot be updated". It never used to say this before! It used to say I was running the latest firmware. Can anyone advise what the problem is?
I've seen some threads referring to something with a CSC mismatch and to alter using *#272*IMEI# and changing the code but I didn't want to do this without being certain what I'm changing.
Presently Kies shows:
PDA: JMI
Phone: JMA
CSC: JM4 (CPW)
I'm running Kies version 2.0.1.11053_99
Thanks
Craig
Is JMI stock for your tab? Besides, the country code might be wrong.
I didnt know how to find the correct stock for this tab. I just saw in a post that someone else form UK had used this so I went for it.
i had this issue also , and i didn't know ever how to make it work
so ppl said that you have to download app from the market that plays with the PDA and CSC to change them to what ever you want without flashing any other rom
Darkpal guide :
My way is DANGEROUS. You need to know what you're doing to do it. IF IT MELTS YOUR TAB am not RESPONSIBLE.
1. Do a Rotobackup of your existing firmware or any backup to your efs folder (regular backups won't work).
2. Download an app called SpoofFW
3. Put the PDA, Phone and CSC of a known stock firmware (like your asia
4. reboot.
5. connect to kies.
thanks for him not for me , but to your info i couldn't understand what to do with the app maybe you wait someone to describe it for you

My case is different. After updating my ROM back to stock, all the versions are OK, despite the software and phonebook remains (but I noticed that my photos in gallery are deleted, which is what I wished).
My question is how to restore it to the REAL factory setting state, without any additional wallpaper and software that I installed?
Thanks for your attention, and wait for your advise as well.

If I understand you correctly, you have to:
[*]Press menu
[*]Settings
[*]Privacy
And there you'll have the option to do the factory reset.
You can also do it by booting into recovery (volume up + power on) and selecting it from the menu.

My tab is from the uk (got it from amazon uk) and it was jmi/jma/jm2 (cpw) on the last update. Before that it was jj7/jk5/jj5 (cpw).
Maybe you can try downloading an older euro rom from samsfirmware and go from there. Don't forget jmi had locked bootloaders.

[Q] Can not register on network problem

Since a few days it is impossible to use my Samsung Galaxy GT-I9000 as a phone. Whenever i try using it, it doesnt register on the network.
I am running DarkyROM JVH v10.1 baseband version I9000XXJVO Firmware 2.3.3
If i try to register on the network is searches and searches and searches... but doesnt find anything.
What "worries" me is the fact that when i start up the phoe is tells me its a Samsung Galaxy S II, which it surely isnt!
Please advice.

There is your problem..
Re-flash stock firmware with pit and re-partition, When complete, check you can register on the network.
If so then avoid the ROM which you are currently running.
EDIT: When you say the phone says Galaxy S II, Is this not a boot animation taken from the SGS II ? Or is it the actual boot screen which says its a SGS II ?
Call me stupid ;-) but i didnt save my stock-rom....

No problem.
Head over to www.samfirmware.com and grab one from there, flash it through odin, Instructions are on that site too.
Thanks AzzleDazzle, but now comes up another problem.... Probably very basic, but for me, its all abracadabra.
I have an European Samsung Galaxy S GTi9000, but if i look at the site there are many roms u can download. From Android 2.1 to Android 2.3.4 for "my" device. Which is the one i should use? My ID is I9000XWJVH, which is according to the site an unknown H version.
Please advice once more, thanks in advance!
No worries, Make sure you download a firmware specifically for the I9000
the last 3 letters eg JVH is the firmware version, JV.X. represents gingerbread 2.3.3 and above.
Gingerbread is the latest release, so i would go for one of them, The one at the bottom of the page on samfirmware will be the very latest, Which i think is JVR
So look for I9000XXJVR.
flash that in ODIN and job done you should be back up and running and with the latest release.
The rest is upto you . i.e going to a custom ROM / rooting ect...
i feel more and more like a noob....
I started Odin, and there u can choose for the pit file, or for the pda file (which is the one i should use i guess), but also u have the choices of re-partition auto reboot and f. reset time. Which of those 3 (or non at all) i should use?
I dont know what has happened. I choose for only reboot after flashing. Flashing went okay, but now it seems to be stuck in a loop. The Galaxy S screen gets followed up by a Swisscom screen in a seemingly endless loop.
Worse, with volume down - power on i can not come in the download menu anymore...
Any advice would be much appreciated now.....
Also when trying a re-partitioning via Odin it doesnt work?
Found the solution. Using Odin 1.8 did the trick. I used Odin 1.3 which probably couldnt flash the 2.3.4, while when i tried with Odin 1.8 it worked flawlesly.
Thanks for your help!

Flashed back to stock but still on KOR, kies wont update

I flashed my brothers phone with a JVR Korean firmware, the reception was terrible. I then proceeded to flash the JH2 firmware, thinking i could use that and upgrade to kies. BUT SMALL PROBLEM.
i found the firmware, flashed it along with csc and modem. but now when i open kies, it shows the JH2 Firmware in the software version area, but then besides JH2 its says (KOR).
I tried the reg hack, nothing worked, apparently my product code in "rededit" is set to the kor version, i tried changing it but nothing......how do i fix this?. its really pissing me off
edit** if i wanted, if its too much trouble to get back to stock, could i theoretically from froyo get cf root on it? then install gingerbread roms after flashing CWM through rom manager?
Try this to change your product code:
*#272*imei#*
Where imei# is the actual imei # to the phone.
Please keep in mind, changing this will wipe the phone to factory default

Hey the code didnt work! and i also reflashed using odin! it shows on KIES all the CSC: JH2, PDA: JH2 but after JH2 it says (KOR) and "this version cannot be updated."
is the phone rooted?
Best course of action if you want official stock 2.3.3 on the phone would be if it was rooted, then download SpoofFw from the market and change the firmware to the Canadian region one. I believe the program sets the phone to JL2.
After that, plug it into kies, it should want to update to KC1 first, then to KG3 (2.3.3).
After that, the product code will most likely still be KOR. If it is, do the code I mentioned above and change it to BMC.

I was using this method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835628
phone is NOT rooted, but apparently using this you can just trick kies, and it should push a update! BUT everytime kies wants to start sending the update, my usb disconnects!?? and its only when kies wants to push the update to the phone
edit** i also tried flashing CF root thorough ODIN, has 2 files, the pit, and the pda CF root file...when flashed my screen just stuck at the GT I9000M logo..
Unless I'm wrong, that method hasn't worked in a while.
If you can root your phone, do so.. its pretty easy after that.
If you don't want to root, then download KC1 from samfirmware, and install it via odin. after that KIES should update to KG3. If it doesn't, I know the code I mentioned above works on both Froyo and Gingerbread.
However if your phone is still disconnecting, you may have to reinstall the drivers for the phone on your PC.
Can you link me to it? i cant seem to find it, i have a username also :s
edit* found it, will try flashing and hopefully this works

So i downloaded the KC1 firmware, and inside the rar file is called a I9000UGKC1_homebinary.rar, and inside that when extracted is a modem, zimgage, and other junk files....what am i supposed to load on the phone?
I dont see any csc, or modem files, is that huge homebinary supposed to be flashed on pda? so all your flashing is PIT and PDA?...
editt** never mind, you just put the huge file on pda, and select the pit and flash
Are you sure its a .rar file you downloaded and not a .tar?
If its a .tar, just put it in the PDA section of ODIN. Do not unrar or untar it.
Ok thank you so much Greeced, who sat here with me for the past little while triyng to fix this problem! After flashing the KC1 firmware, Kies now is updating my firmware....as of right now its backing up all my files. Once again thanks sooo much. Another reason why i love xda. They always help with all 3 smartphones ive had
Ha, you're lucky you had a question to the one problem I knew the answer to... I'm still very new to all this too... And many have helped me.
Glad it worked... Just remember if the product code is still KOR, the code above will now work.
Edit* - and for good measure, once the phone is back on KG3 and the BMC product code, be sure to boot into recovery mode and wipe cache and factory default to clear any residuals that may have remained behind. Otherwise you may get a few force closes.

Running into another problem, it will say checking firmware bla bla, downloading, but then my gt on the bottom right corner of kies, says "connection lost." it keeps doing this and is getting rather annoying....
edit** IMEI code did the change thingy, will test again...
Ok try this:
Before you do anything, boot into recovery mode and wipe cache and factory default, then try KIES again. If it still doesn't work:
1. Go into device manager with the phone plugged in, and remove the samsung drivers (uninstall).
2. Disconnect your phone.
3. Uninstall KIES.
4. Restart your computer
5. Download a fresh copy of KIES and install it.
6. Plug your phone in and have it install the drivers.
7. Run KIES and try it again.

[Q] Unknown IMEA & Baseband!

Hiya, I've been trying to avoid bugging you all with a post begging for help, But here I am =(
I have a Samsung Galaxy S GTI9000 on the Three Network (UK), I recently Softbricked my phone running CM9 Nightly - 10/05/2012 By Dropping it whilst in the recovery menu (Yeah, Dumb thing to do ).
I then restored it to an older Stock FW (JW4) then Proceeded to Root it via ODIN, Since then My IMEA and baseband have been unknown, I ran a restore of a backup I had from 07/05/2012 running CM 7.1 Stable, This Backup had a working IMEA & baseband but they both still show up as Unknown, I also tried to run a resotre of my other backup from 02/05/2012 but was unable to due to a "MD5 Mismatch".
I also tried to manually enter a new APN with the Three mms APN details, But to no avail, Didn't save it and repeatedly says "Error while searching for Networks".
Any help would be greatly appreciated and will thank anyone who is able to help me!
Hi , when you went back to stock fw did you use the 3 file method and also the Odin 512 pit file with repartition box ticked?..
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
look for nv_data.bin via a software like root explorer, also look for nv_data.bak , if u find one you may have some luck.

No I used 1 file, Placing the entire .Tar file in the PDA box, I couldn't flash stock with "Re-Partition" selected as it wouldn't ever go past Connection.
I've managed to restore my IMEA and baseband by reverting to XXJVU Stock. The only issue is, is I absolutely hate Stock FW. Coming from CM9, Stock feel's inferior.
Every time I try to flash CM7/CM9 it gets about 10% through, Then suddenly Reboots and goes into a constant Bootloop.
Also get a very fast screen of text appear as if it's trying to install something from recovery.
