[Q] Unknown IMEA & Baseband! - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hiya, I've been trying to avoid bugging you all with a post begging for help, But here I am =(
I have a Samsung Galaxy S GTI9000 on the Three Network (UK), I recently Softbricked my phone running CM9 Nightly - 10/05/2012 By Dropping it whilst in the recovery menu (Yeah, Dumb thing to do ).
I then restored it to an older Stock FW (JW4) then Proceeded to Root it via ODIN, Since then My IMEA and baseband have been unknown, I ran a restore of a backup I had from 07/05/2012 running CM 7.1 Stable, This Backup had a working IMEA & baseband but they both still show up as Unknown, I also tried to run a resotre of my other backup from 02/05/2012 but was unable to due to a "MD5 Mismatch".
I also tried to manually enter a new APN with the Three mms APN details, But to no avail, Didn't save it and repeatedly says "Error while searching for Networks".
Any help would be greatly appreciated and will thank anyone who is able to help me!

Hi , when you went back to stock fw did you use the 3 file method and also the Odin 512 pit file with repartition box ticked?..

look for nv_data.bin via a software like root explorer, also look for nv_data.bak , if u find one you may have some luck.

No I used 1 file, Placing the entire .Tar file in the PDA box, I couldn't flash stock with "Re-Partition" selected as it wouldn't ever go past Connection.
I've managed to restore my IMEA and baseband by reverting to XXJVU Stock. The only issue is, is I absolutely hate Stock FW. Coming from CM9, Stock feel's inferior.
Every time I try to flash CM7/CM9 it gets about 10% through, Then suddenly Reboots and goes into a constant Bootloop.
Also get a very fast screen of text appear as if it's trying to install something from recovery.

[Q] Flashing JH2 problems

Alright, I'm pretty uniformed when it comes to these things, but as it stands I need some help. I have a Bell Galaxy S (GT-I9000M) that I unlocked to use on Telus and then rooted a month later in an attempt to trouble shoot a reception issue (don't ask). Trouble shooting failed and now I'm trying to get the circumvent the warranty issues by trying to re-flash back to the stock bell ROM, which is from what I can tell the I9000UGJH2. I downloaded it from (samfirmware). I'm trying to use Odin and am having some troubles. When I extract the file there is only a single .tar file inside (I9000UGJH2-PDA-Kernel-Bootloader-CL490514-Low). As such I am unclear as to what to enter for the PDA/PHONE/CSC fields. I assume this file is the PDA, and inside is the modem file if I look. Do I need to extract this to use in the modem field? I'm so confused.
Also, a couple of things. Ive had 'success' flashing using just the the one file in the PDA field, as well as that plus the modem file found inside extracted and selected in the MODEM field. HOWEVER, in both attempts though it seem to boot into the OS fine, neither recognize my SIM card. Clearly this is some sort of failure. Any suggestions?
Oh, and yes, I can get into download mode. That's the only reason I'm fiddling.
since the phone boots into the OS
and you have the 3 buttons working
you can try flashing it back to stock (JH2) using KIES
and see if you can get it to recognize your Telus SIM card with that.
before you go ahead, do you have friends or family with Fido or Rogers SIM you can try?
just to make sure it's not a Telus SIM card problem
I'm pretty sure I did flash it to the stock JH2. When I plug into kies and search for firmware updates it says there are none. Am I doing something wrong?
maybe if I flash the update prior to JH2? Then it will see it need an update and go to town?
on the registry just change all the JH2 references to JG9
then it will offer you JH2 for "upgrade"
or you can use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799810&highlight=i9000m
done and done. used the regedit. prompted to update. did so. loads the galaxy s screen, then goes to black. i kind of want to kill myself ;(
try booting into recovery mode and wipe data + wipe cache
see if it can boot after that

[Q] Can't mount /dev/block/st110 [Solved]

Hoping a kind soul can help a total fool who should have left well alone!
I have a UK Samsung Galaxy S I9000 phone that was unlocked by the previous owner but still had all the "3" branding which I wanted to remove. I was already on ver 2.2 (updated via Kies) although I don't know the exact revision.
After lots of reading (obviously not enough) I followed a guide to reflash via Odin v1.7 to I9000XWJS3 using separate files for PIT (803), PDA, PHONE and CSC. The guide said to tick Re-partition on which might have been the cause of my problem.
Needless to say after the flash, I got the error message "Can't mount /dev/block/st110" and subsequent reboots just give me a black screen. I still had access to the download mode so I tried another posts solution to fix the black screen starting with a flash to I9000XXJPC with a 512 pit and re-partition again. This time the odin process started but no progress bar materialised. After a very long while I disconnected. Thankfully I can still enter the download mode but this time am hoping someone with more knowledge is willing to help me though the process of recovering my phone if its still possible.
Just looking for any stock UK firmware and then I will let Kies update from now on.
Many Thanks

You still can use xxjpc, with repartition ticked. Many a times, odin will fail for no reasons. Try again, but make sure you close Kies completely.

Thanks g00ndu. You gave me the courage to re-run xxjpc again by confirming I was on the right track and this time it worked. Small donation on its way for helping me recover my phone.
I have one further question though. Can someone confirm if the I9000XXJPC firmware is for the UK? I hope to only use Kies from now on but it now says "the version of the device cannot be updated". I am using the latest version 2.0.0.11014_49.
Thanks again
Edit - Kies lists the current firmware version as PDA:JPC / PHONE:JPC / CSC:JPC (KOR). Something tells me I have the wrong country firmware. If anyone can provide a link to the correct one and the Odin settings I should use it would be greatly appreciated.
Still trying to get a solution to this and have noticed that my product code in Kies registry entry is GT-I9000HKDKOR. I am wondering if this is because I used a wrong CSC file?
Any directions would be very welcome.
Thanks
Go to www.samfirmware.com and grab the Europe/UK firmware. Get a 2.2.1. one. All the CSC, Phone, Modem files should be in the package.
Thanks snapper.fishes. I am now downloading I9000XXJPU (512.Pit) - hopefully this one is correct as some of the downloads for 2.2.1 show (803.Pit). As there are no instructions with this I assume I don't click re-partition. Is this correct?
Thanks for the help
This is almost soul destroying....
I ran the update "I9000XXJPU (512.Pit)" as mentioned above and it flashed successfully. I am now on 2.2.1
Re-plugged in the usb cable and no windows popup to view the sd contents and nothing in "My Computer". Kies recognises something has been plugged in but remains on "connecting" - the phone itself shows the usb graphic and "connected".
I then went into Settings -> About Phone and there is no USB Settings option.
And just to rub it in I typed in *2767*4387264636# as per the wiki guide on here to view the Product code and it's still on Korea GT-I9000HKDKOR.
Edit - Have now tried *#1234# and the phone says:
PDA: I9000XXJPU
PHONE: I9000XXJPU
CSC: I9000OXAJPU
Not even sure if this bit helps
In case this is a help to other novices like me with the wrong product code. I found the following info and you don't need to be rooted to run it:
E.g. Changing CSC to XEU: Note - this will only work if the multiCSC was used when firmware was flashed
Type *#272*IMEI# and select XEU to install. (to check IMEI: *#06#)
Phone will reset to the default setting (perform a backup beforehand if req)
XEU = UK's product code
As for the USB issue (no USB Settings menu option in About Phone), is this just a change in the 2.2.1 menus? I noticed a USB Settings menu in "Wireless and network" and they have changed how this works. Kies still refuses to connect to the phone, but maybe this is just Kies.
Thanks
Jpu firmware is broken with kies. I think from memory that jpy and onwards allows that connection.
Jpu wasn't considered a official firmware but it worked incredibly well.bar the kies problem.

Me Too!!
I'm getting the same error the op did.
What happened? I flashed CM7 and it worked fine. I then decided to do a restore with the backup I had made earlier with CWM, this is when **** went wrong. Couldn't boot up after this or get to recovery. Went into download mode and tried to reflash factory firmware. JL2 Andriod 2.2 for Bell Canada I9000. Says successful but just boots to 3e recovery with " /dev/block/st110, (Invalid argument), E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA: "
Below that it says: " your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions. copy default media content failed.
My biggest fear is the dreaded Int.SD card failure, the op gave me hope but same thing after every reflash.
Any suggestion?
I also have a Bell I9000M that did that. After attempting several combinations what ended up working for me was flashing JPU with 512.pit and repartition enabled, modem, PDA and CSC all selected in odin 1.3. That got me a working device. Then flashed JH2 to get recovery 2e back. Then flashed to the ROM I was originally on (Darky's 9.3). After that I flashed a CWM zip for the JL2 modem to get data back.

Also very important, for JH2 I did PDA only. No pit, no repartition.

Dude you totally saved my bacon. I was dreading the possibility of having to go to Bell. Totally worked, though coolirs media or something keeps force closing but at least the phone is working. Just gonna flash cm7 now since I have to start from scratch anyway.
Thanks again!

Thanks icejagans. Its a relief to know that this is just an incompatibiliy between kies and the JPU firmware. Do you know if there has been an official 2.2.1 firmware available via Kies for UK unbranded I9000s?
Edit - icejagans you're a star, the JPY update fixed the USB oddity I was having and even Kies now connects OK. I will mark this thread as solved.
Thanks for everyones help

[Q] "Unknown volume for path" - can't get Download screen

I attempted to restore a backup via CWM and now I get the message E: unknown volume for path" in response to any options in CWM. If I try to reboot normally, I just get the SGS splash screen, which just stays there.
I can't get to the Download screen with the three keys, this just gets me back to CWM. So I feel pretty screwed now. I could order a jig but will it even work in these circumstances?
The sequence of events that led to this was that I followed the instructions here to install Jellybean 4.2. All went well, Jellybean was running very smoothly from this rom. The trouble was that I just couldn't get it to find any mobile networks at all, even when I manually entered the APN and VPN etc. My sim is a giffgaff one, which uses the O2 network, and you do have to add the APN to get the 3g to work - but the phone just wasn't seeing any networks at all. I presume this was because this version of the rom just doesn't recognise UK carriers.
So anyway, I then went into CWM to restore my last backup, which was from over a year ago. This all appeared to work but then it got as far as the SGS splash screen, as described above, and stayed there.
What else can I try?
Well, I did manage to get a Download screen in the end, although Odin running on my Win 8 desktop couldn't see the phone. However, I then put Odin on my netbook running Win XP and that can see it.
So I'm now ready to flash a stock rom to the phone. I've tried following PuggeredUK's guide to installing a stock rom, which I've used successfully in the past, but he does say you need a .pit file. I've tried loading a stock 2.3.4 and 2.3.6 value (which was the last stock firmware I had on the phone) roms from Sammobile but can't find any .pit files in any of the stock roms I've downloaded from there.
So are .pit files actually necessary? I tried sending one file to the phone and Odin said "Failed", so I thought I'd better check about the .pit files before further buggering up my phone.
I had this same problem too when I restored my backup. I got it fixed by just going back to the ROM what I had before I tried to restore. (which was CM10).
Do what I just told this guy in post #7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38194645
Edit: and you lost your network because you flashed from GB to JB, missing out ICS. Nothing to do with the rom and uk carriers. Next time install ICS first.

I9305 software problem

Hi
I recently bought from Singapore a PCB used for the i9305. It was bought as checked and unlocked of course.
The phone accepts the pin of my sim card and as its the first time it was turned on, I go to setup touchwiz and I get to as far as setting the time bit and then it freezes and crashes.
Also it looks like the keyboard does not appear. When I try to put a password on the wifi settings nothing comes up.
I assumed that if I flash through odin a new stock firmware it should clear but I downloaded the file from sammobile and odin says the file is not acceptable.
Does anyone have a link of something I can try before having to send this all the way back to Singapore?
Thanks
Bought a PCB? Meaning only the motherboard of i9305. U hv verify that it's PCB of i9305 n not i9300?

Its certain that its the i9305. I know the configuration of it + when the phone starts it says i9305
I assumed that if I flash through odin a new stock firmware it should clear but I downloaded the file from sammobile and odin says the file is not acceptab
Thats either wrong file wrong format or damaged file .
Download again or take a stock rom from XDA .
jje
Yes. I think at first instance I will try downloading the file again. I downloaded the greek i9305 file, however only the one marked as kies was available.
From memory its the same file as when using odin to flash the PCB. Still has the md5 ending
I managed to re-download a non corrupt file and it worked.
Thanks for the replies

[Q] Lost IMEI

Hi guys,
A friend of mine made her Galaxy Note "fly" on a wall (being a bit bored obviously... )
After that the phone had no network.
Checking it, I found the plane mode was ON and unable to turn OFF, and the IMEI was null/null typing *#06#
I tried then to flash via Odin the only firmware I found at the moment, which was a 1 part 4.1.2 XEF (found and got on Sammobile), which made a real update though the phone was still on 2.3.6
The flash got OK, I could turn the plane mode OFF, but still no IMEI
Tried to flash the 16 Gb pit > all the same.
I eventually found a 3 parts 2.3.6 firmware, and as we "saved" some SGS with the 3 parts JVU, rebuilding EFS rep like magic, I tried.
The flash was OK, but still no IMEI.
Guess what, no EFS save to restore.
If someone has any idea, though I definetly think it's over and needs to be sent to repair...
Thanks by advance
One more detail : sneaking the efs folder with ES Explorer, I discovered that the nv_data files are missing!
My feeling right now?

I have the same problem I have my IMEI number at the back of the Phone but no way to write it to my Note2 I wish someone can please help us.
As far as I know, we don't have simple ways to rewrite an imei.

Did you try this one?
I did personally not, though the nv_data files did not exist anymore in the efs folder.
