[Q] g/aaps not sticking in CM7 - Nook Color General

[question]
I got a nook color this morning. Got it rooted, Got CM7 up and running but for some reason the Gapps are not sticking when i flash the ones that they recommend in the Cyanogen Wiki. I did a quick, and i do stress quick, google search to see what could be going on and i didn't see anything.
i did boot back into recovery, wipe, flash, reinstall and nothing. So if some could point me in the right direction i'd love you for ever.

Got a Nook but am so confused.....Need help please..

Hey Guys, i am new and not very knowledgeable in the android world i tried searching but the more i search the more confused i get, i finally got my hands on a nook color (got a brand new in box nook from a place called mardens for 156$ taxes in i was stoked) and rooted it but i think i want to go further then just a root because i don't use the nook as an e reader , here are my questions:
1. I would love to install froyo on my device but i can't seem to find a step by step guide on how to do it
2. I also see that there is 2 froyo builds and was wondering which one is better.
3. Also is Froyo stable on the nook or is it really glitchy? Compared to the stock rooted nook?
4. Once you install froyo is it reversible (go back to the stock build?)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks
Gunner

I have not received my nook yet, but doing some prep for installing nookie froyo, it just takes a bit of time and searching to find the info you're looking for (some of it external to XDA)
1. http://forum.androidcentral.com/barnes-noble-nook-color/ check the stickies for how-tos
2. i believe there is an "official" one and a customized one that someone built from the official 0.6.8 version. I'm going to use the customized one as it comes with the oc kernel
3. From what I read, auto-nooter would be the MOST stable but Nookie Froyo is almost as stable and gives you the benefits of Froyo instead of Eclair. The other ones (HC and CM7) are coming along but aren't quite there yet.
4. Yes you can go back. With the Nook Color being able to boot from SD card, it's unlikely to ever be "stuck" on something.
Again, that's just from what i read i have no experience (yet). hope to get the nook color this week or next.
If you want to use the B&N stock apps, stay on stock eclair and just root that because you will lose all that functionality when you flash NF or CM7 or any other variations. I haven't used NF but from what I read, it's second most stable next to rooted stock eclair.

Thanks for the link i finally got froyo on my nook, but i can not for the life of me figure out how to get the market and the google apps on it, everytime i try to run the commands i get errors
Im pretty new to it too. got mine about a week ago. some of the stuff is pretty overwhelming at first, especially anything to do with adb. cant figure that out for the life of me.
anyways, the easiest way ive found so far is this thread
[ROM] Customized Nookie Froyo 0.6.8 Image for SDcard Updated (2/25)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922324
its a custom build of froyo and already has everything needed installed. its fast, and so far, very stable. im running an 8gb class 4 sd card. it does seem to matter what you use.
here is a thread that has a small list of cards known to work and not work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946896
pretty much everything you need is in the instructions. use any of the programs they tell you to use for things. it justs makes it easier, even if there are alternatives.
good luck. its not that bad.

Questions about rooting

I have been lurking and reading for a couple of weeks now. I bought a used NC with 1.1 and used Autonooter to root it. Works great.
I bought a second NC which had the 1.2 s/w on it. I used the manualnooter process to root it. That works pretty well.
Now I'm thinking about getting into the nightly CM7 game. I'm wondering is there anything I need to watch out for with the 2 NC's I have if I do this. Do I have to take them back to stock? Can I just follow the CM7 instructions?
Any insight and guidance would be appreciated
50 views and no replies. If you read this and can help I would really appreciate some info. I'm reluctant to proceed until I hear from someone who has traveled the road before. Thanks
You can run CM7, stable or nightly, off of an SD card. You don't have to change anything on your Nooks to do this. In fact, they don't even need to be rooted. Running CM7 on the SD card will not change anything on the built-in memory of the Nook.
Look for the "size agnostic" thread, follow the directions, and you're good to go.
ps. I enjoy your music.
yeah, just follow the instructions on flashing cm7 for the first time. and make sure you understand the CWM instructions. you may want to try a stable rom for now. there are lots of battery and kernel issues right now with the nightly builds. but not to fear the devs are working hard to fix them. just stay with the stable's and your be fine. I hope this was helpful...

is this the one you mean?

Well, I went ahead figuring "How hard could it be anyway?".
I did the nand backup with CWM 3.0.2.8
I then ran ROM manager V4.2.0.2 from internal memory.
I choose the option that allows me to download ROMS.
I chose CyanogenMod, and then chose 7.0.3.
I downloaded the ROM
I then chose Install ROM from SD card
It asked me about clearing caches, etc and I chose the default values already checked.
It installed without errors.
I rebooted and it got to the last part of the boot process where the word "color" is rapidly changing and stayed there indefinitely,
I rebooted with CWM on the SD card and tried to reinstall the Manualnooter I loaded on this NC a week ago.
Rebooted. Still hung up.
I copied my nand backup to the CWN SD card and chose restore.
It booted back to my manualnooter install successfully.
So I'm successfully back where I started.
Can someone help me understand what I did wrong on what I need to do to make it work? Thanks
Not sure what went wrong, but I would also suggest trying verygreen's size-agnostic approach. You keep your manual nooter and can run CM7 from an SD card to see if you want to go all the way and remove the stock BN software.
Try this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
Or, if you want to go crazy, you could try racks' dual boot SD card image of Phiremod 6.2 (a variation of CM7) and Honeycomb. That's what I'm using and Phiremod works great (aside from battery life ) and honeycomb is just plain slick to use.

I loaded CM7 7.0.2 stable and was able to get it going. Thanks

Help with bricked NC!

I got the NC from overstock for a good deal. I am pretty savvy technically and have rooted phones, returned to stock from a bricked android phone, etc.
So I got a blue dot 1.2 NC. I was initially planning to do a repartition and then install CM7. Thats how I started. I created a bootable CWM 3.08 uSD card. Ran the repartitioning script (from here). That went well.
Then I was reading about rooting and saw the Manual Nooter thread: this one
On a whim I ran the manual Nooter install, which ran well too ( I later realised that this was for STOCK 1.2 )
Then I installed CM7, gapps and OC kernel in that order which completed successfully too.
Now, when I start the NC, I am stuck at the n COLOR animation. Tried clearing data, cache, etc but nothing works.
How do I get out of this pickle? I am itching to use my first android tablet! Thanks for your help..

Since you are working with the blue dot, you need to upgrade your bootable CWM to version 3.2.0.1. That versions is designed with support for the blue bot. I would then rerun the repartitioning, since most likely it did not work right with the old CWM. At that point you should be able to wipe the system and install CM7, gapps, and OC.

Thanks I will give that a try tonight and report back.
Newby Thoughts
What's a blue dot?
I'm a newby at this but why not start with a factory reset then build up to what you want. Sounds from your posts that you've just been throwing different things at it and somehow expecting things to work. Like I say, newby thoughts but the factory reset and step by step has worked for me--and apparently many others. Let us know if you try and how it works.

Thanks gmpower. That seemed to do the trick. I used CWM 321 and also made sure I did a data system and cache format before I installed CM7. The NC booted into CM7 and everything looks great now
Appreciate your help!
The blue dot is a sign on a box that the new nook is with a new partition setup , rather than what was originally provided with the nook.

if you want to swap partitions back to 'old' setup,
which i did, DeanGibson's thread is good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1094371
now have 5 gb for storage - music, books, etc.
quick question, didn't the nook from overstock come with 1.2 stock?
i rooted my overstock blue dot one and am having weird power issues, so i was curious if it was a hardware failure or something with manual nooter?
thanks!

does anyone know when these models became pervasive on the market? I have a friend who got a nook after me (mine was March, his in April I guess) and we had trouble following the process with his (which worked great for mine) and I'm just now realizing he may have the new one...

Yes I think my nook from OS came with 1.2 stock. It had the blue dot on the box. I initially turned it on and registered the device on the BN network. Following which I tried the whole rooting and custom ROM thing.
In my case I think using CWM 3.0.8 caused the issues I was having. Switching to 3.2.1 I was good to go.
What are these weird power issues that you are having?

Thanks for the info.
Mine kept powering off randomly and constantly. I unrooted and restored stock, and it still persisted, so warranty replacement on the way!

[Q] Where'd my Dual Boot go? (Dual-boot CM & Stock)

Hi all!
I just updated my Nook from an old Phiremod build to MIUI 1.8.5, and I love it! However I see (because of the CyanogenMod logo, and the subsequent menu) that the new advanced boot menu was baked into the ROM. Now this seems to be a lot more awesome than the old-fashioned multi-uBoot, and I can boot into Normal and Recovery just fine... however my other ROM on the eMMC won't boot. I've actually done this to two NCs, my mothers and my own. My mother's had Stock 1.1 rooted on the alt partition. Mine had a build of Honeycomb. Both hang whenever I select Boot Alt then Reboot!
Is there any way to recover these old partitions? If not, that's not a big deal. it would just be nice.
More important however:
How can I, using the new Boot Menu, have my Normal boot be CM/MIUI/Whatever, and my ALT boot be (preferably rooted and OC'd) Stock 1.2? Please help, I'm going back to school and would love to have Stock for studying... and as of this point, my mother's under the impression that I broke her Nook Color, so I'm in hot water!
Please!
Thanks!
EDIT: found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156909 This MAY be the solution to my problem. Going to try it and see where it leads. Silly me only looking for the solution in the Android Development section, not the General section. Will post back soon, for now, IGNORE ME!
Yeah this totally looks like the solution to my problems. It seems to be using Multi-uBoot 0.4 as opposed to the boot menu, but I'm just going to do what I do best: blindly follow instructions and pray that all will be well. I strongly believe it will be. Should I run into any problems, I'll just rewrite this thread and go from there. Happy Nooking everyone!

CM7 rendered my phone useless

I flashed with the stable build of CM7 on my N1. This the first time I have flashed it.
For awhile it was working ok. There were a few bugs here and there, but no showstoppers.
But now, the Launcher has decided to not work at all. It's completely unresponsive to any touch, and it's in an infinite FC loop. My phone is useless now. I've rebooted, powered off, cleaned the cache -- nothing is working.
My question is... can I flash it back to stock? This is beyond frustrating, and I'd rather just stick with a no frills stock OS without all the bells and whistles.
Yes, read the wiki's on how to flash to stock.
Did you do a full wipe before flashing cm7? This include welling the system partition
i followed each and every step of the CM7 instructions.
thanks! i will look into it.
If you flashed CM 7.1 Then i had the same problems as my N1 locked solid.
After a few minutes of flashing it used to become unresponsive and all.
I tried everything but sadly havent been able to find a solution.
I say you should try Cm 7.0.3 That is very stable. I am currently using that and am loving it!!
