Whenever I flash a cm7 zip settings shows in app drawer with a generic icon, and its name is com.android.settings.SETTINGS. any calls to settings causes settings to FC.
This started after I flashed the cm7rc2. Had no probs with cm7 until then. But now ANY cm7 flashes with these results.
I can take the settings.apk from the zip and adb push it to the system app directory, and it's dandy after a reboot. But they never flash in right anymore.
Tested w/cm6.1, and cm6.2 vanilla, and even ruu'd & re-rooted.
Used clockwork 2.5.0.7, 3.0.0.5, amon ra, and darch Godspeed. All provide same results.
Yes, when permitted I am formatting boot, system, data, cache, dalvik, and rebooting recovery.
So... who's got something for me? Ideas?

You said you formatted, what about wipe/factory reset? Also, what else are you flashing? ROM,gapps, kernel, tweaks, apps, etc.? Could be a bid zip, try redownloading, try all the CM7 variants, aosp, nightly, RC2?
All wipes and formats, Each zip I tried was downloaded on phone and 3 computers. No tweaks, kernels or gapps.
Same results.
Edit:
Actually, if I flash gapps, it boots to setup, but touching the android is not recognized, so I'm stuck there.

maybe wipe all, format all, flash rom only, reboot? then flash gapps, reboot? maybe try a different sd card? I'm at a loss that's really weird, never heard of it before... hope you can get it, if I come up with something better I'll post it, otherwise you got me
Oh, did all that. Including different sdcard.
Thanks

3/10 had settings.apk load correctly. But the keyboard FC'S constantly, and the RomManager.apk doesn't install at all during flash.
Anyone else had these problems with 2.3.3?

yes i think i has this problem too
I used Root Checker to make sure I have root and that I'm good to go but CWM isn't working when flashing ROMs. I also tried booting into recovery but flashing anything just makes the phone reboot.
I'm running Steel Droid v.2 but I can't flash any new roms.
I'm in the same boat, for some reason when I try flashing anything, I get a "E:Can't open (bad)"
I can restore backups of my debloated stock, and SD2, but can't flash anything now for some reason (SD3, narcotICS, etc)
Even just tried to SBF back to stock, wiped everything out, re-rooted, installed the Bootstrap, installed CWR, and still nada.

Thats werid ive never heard of that problem hmm.. after you installed bootstrap click on it and click install recovery. Also try installing the cwm on rom manger. If that doesnt work try scrolling all the way to the bottom in rom manager and downgrading a cwm version to see if that works. Otherwise im not sure :/

Are you guys using the latest version?
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
Yeah I'm using the latest version of CWM.
I can't even flash ROMs from Recovery though. No idea what's going on.
Found out what my problem was. For some reason, was getting a bad download, had to redownload all the roms again. Weird thing is the MD5 sum was correct on them, but even trying to open the zip files on the computer was throwing errors.
Never ran into this problem before, so really weird, but all is working now.
Fixed the problem by reinstalling Droid 3 bootstrap. Woot!

Here's what happened. Some apps were FCing so I tried fixing permissions via cwm. Unfortunately something went wrong and i had to flash back to gdx. So i wiped everything, flashed the rom, and rebooted. But now i can't download anything from play store. It would say "starting download" but it doesn't start..
I tried searching and did what other guides/threads told me to do but no luck.
Some (but not all) i've tried:
1. Cleared cache/data on google play, dl manager, google framework.
2. Fixed play store permissions.
3. Reflashed gdx (i'm on stock kernel)
4. Tried installing play store apk (not the xda-modded one)
5. Checked wifi (and router as i only dl via wifi)
6. Logged in and out of gmail and g talk
7. Tried another acct for play store and gmail and g talk
It's happened to me before but gdx 28 solved that and now i'm back to where i started....
Anyone know what else i could try?
Btw, i can dl fine on other apps. It's only play store that i can't dl from... and i haven't made any tweaks after my last flash.

Have you tried uninstalling Play Store & then reinstalling.
Also pls. convey which ROM you are using. as some custom ROMs come with their Gapps package.

Yes i have tried uninstalling play store and reinstalling it but it did not work, i am using stock ics 4.0.4 with speedmod kernel.
But the good news is that i can now download from google play
This is what i did:-
After trying everything with no positive result i flash stock ics 4.0.3. again but this time with clear cache, data and delvic wipe via mobile odin. I tested it and it did not work, infact my keyboard got messed up, whenevr i try to write it reflected as "null" for every letter i typed. So finally i had no option then i thought of restoring my fone with the nandroid back up i did just after flashing my 4.0.3 ICS ROM and SPEEDMOD K3-10 kernel(it was a back up b4 i started flashing different ROM now n then ) . I did and walla its back to normal now i can download from google play.
The real problem was not on google play data but in my download manager, it was mess up after i continuously flash ROM one after another. I couldn't even download some files thru the browser during that time. Now its back to normal. Thanks to my nandroid back up. Its always safer to do a nandroid backup b4 things are messed up.cheers

Okay, so at this point I have no idea what to do, and am hoping for some help.
I was able to unlock with Sunshine via temproot with Kingroot (was on the latest stock 5.1 OTA) last night, and pretty much everything was fine. I attempted to install Supersu via TWRP, but the binaries were out of date (this was after uninstalling Kingroot from in app). After a few attemts to update (within Android and in TWRP), I attempted to uninstall SuperSU to start over, no dice, wouldn't go. After that I went rooting around TWRP (not a good idea if you're new) and used the 'Fix Permissions' feature. Not only did that not fix SuperSU, but after that all hell broke loose within the OS, with Google Play Services crashing all the time. I tried clearing the cache, updating after diabling Services, no dice. Infally I tried a Factory Restore, and that still didn't help. Tried two more times, evebn without restoring my app data, it still would crash. I attempted reflashing TWRP through ADB a couple times, but it wasn't having an effect.
Then, the really bad part, I attempted flashin in TWRP, and accidently selected BOOT instead of RECOVERY, now either one brings me to TWRP. I tried restoring to stock firmware in RSD Lite, no dice, tried running the batch file that came with the firmware, nothing, it apparently tried loading the parsechunks, but had no effect.
I can still get into both TWRP and Fastboot on the phone, and it will connect via USB (shows up as a fastboot device in adb), but other than that my phone is stuck.
Anyhelp would be VERY appeciated, I should have just left things alone.
Why not just try installing cm12.1 and see what happens?
Wonder if entering twrp needs to be done via vol down and power so to not be on the boot side... If that makes sense...

Tried flashing the stock frimware, and it didn't work.
Was able to find a clean copy of the boot.img from computerfrrek and it has allowed me to get back into Android, however, play services still appears to have issues.
At least the phone is operational again.
Odd problems.
I'm thinking rsd now?

You have a system directory problem it sounds a clean flash should fix it.

Just go get one of my mofo imgs unzip it and fastboot the .img all but recovery and the big system img. Then fast boot twrp. And then you can flash my new rom that is ready to download now.
the thing that messed you up was the fix permissions. find out how to "fix"/ "undo" the fact that you hit fix permissions and then flash stock and start over

Thanks, I ended up flashing the boot.img you uploaded yesterday and all I'm back in Android again, not just figuring out the SuperSU/GPlay Services issue, do you thing the ROM would help with that?

Yeah, it's a matter of fixing the damage done by the 'Fix Permissions' command now.

I uninstalled and then reinstalled Play Services a couple times. Mostly because I had to force stop Titanium Backup after it sat for 15 minutes without completing the uninstall. For me, everything seems to be working, except my old texts didn't show up in Hangouts. I just searched around here and found a thread with all the Play Service apks and grabbed the right one from there. I'm about to try installing computerfreek's ROM, so we'll see if that does anything else for me.
Everything seems fixed after installing the ROM.

Yeah, I'd give it a try. Mine's still going strong, got all my stuff set back up and it's smooth.
