Has anyone ever seen a Froyo rom that uses the stock SPL?

Why would you want stock spl when EZTerry's hboot and radio offer an extra 14mb of ram? I still can't understand why anyone would NOT be on it to be honest, not like it's hard to update.

I guess so but why would you want that? It would only limit you to a few roms that don't require dangerspl (96mb system partition) and you would have an outdated radio.
There are so many advantages of upgrading your spl that its not even worth keeping the stock spl for ANY purpose (other than sending back to t-mobile which can be easily done but flashing stock spl back on again and nobody would notice)

I know. I've used danger spl before, had it until like a week ago. Just curious in trying everything...you know?
Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using XDA App

I guess you could try.. It will work as long as you have a custom recovery and you flash a rom without requirement for danger/2708 radio
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App

I know, I was wondering if anyone had found one that worked with the stock spl because i hadnt.

Did I Make A Mistake, Or am I Ok??

Hi all,
I was wondering if having the "Danger" SPL on my G1 is better than having the stock SPL?
Will I ever need the stock SPL for anything? AND
Is having the "Danger" SPL going to restrict me in anyway?

Here are the differences between SPL's.

Thanks guys.
And thanks htcclay for the link.
I guess my question now is should I revert back to the Hard SPL or keep Haykuros(Danger) SPL?
keep it
If you alreadly have the danger spl, there is no point at all in downgrading execpt if you had to send the phone back to t-mobile, who knows maybe you will need that danger spl in future

quick question regarding radios

I have the latest cyanogen rom and i know it flashed a new radio when i did that (via the htc update)
now if i wanted to swtich to a new rom like MLIGN hero 2.8 would i need to flash back to the older radio(radio 2.22.19.26I)?
im just trying to avoid a brick, i've already bricked one of my phones switching radios lol

Pretty sure 2.22.19.26I is the latest radio.
2.22.19.26I is the latest radio and has been since cupcake.
Boot into hboot [camera]+[power] and it'll tell you what version you're using. I will bet my own anus it's 2.22.19.26I.
yea it is... i was pretty sure in order to get cyanogen's rom it changed your radio image when you flashed the htc recovery image, im guessing it was the same one i already had then

Yea the HTC recovery image does include a radio, but its the same one we've been using for ages.
Incidentally, it's not radio images that brick your phone, its the 1.33.2005 spl (also known as Haykuro's spl, deathspl, etc), which is only compatible with radio 2.22.19.26I, so unless you're using that spl you can flash radios freely.
lol i wouldnt say freely.... radios can cause bricks just like spls lol

How to tell what spl you have

I rooted my phone so long ago just following JFs instructions I cant remember what spl I installed and now with the need for the Danger SPL or Eng SPL to run the new eclair roms I wanted to know what I am running I booted into the spl and it says HSPL10.95.3000 so I am pretty sure that I am using the Hard spl, is that correct ? Does this mean I can not use the new eclair roms with installing a new spl ?
If you booted into fastboot and it said HSPL10.95.3000, then yes, you are running the Hard SPL, and yes, you need to install the new SPL before flashing any Eclair ROMs.

thanks, man I just l wanted to double check. Do you think that eclair roms will always require a danger spl or eng spl? I just dont want to bother changin before the eclair roms are even stable enough to flash for regular every day use.

1.They need Haykuro SPl
2.Didnt you hear the news?
Tmo will give the Mytouch/G1 up to 2.6 updates. This was said by tmo and some devs on twitter.

according to one ROM thread I read the creator of the ROM said you must have Danger or Engineering SPL. I have heard of people bricking there phones using Haykuro SPL. Thats great news though, I had thought they were stopping G1 updates after 1.6

Changing SPL

Is it safe to "revert" to HardSPL from Danger SPL?
-I use the OpenEclair ROMs, and the newest ones seem to not require Danger SPL anymore...do you think I should change the SPL?

you only need to downgrade the SPL if you are going to downgrade the radio
( wrong(old) radio + Danger SPL = Brick )
you are only likely going to need to downgrade the radio to get back to stock

Protection from accidental bricking...
There is no telling if any FUTURE RADIO will be compatible with the DEATH SPL -- the only thing guaranteed is that future radio images will be compatible with the 0.95.x000 SPLs.
Note: I suggest NOT using the so-called HARDSPL. It really doesn't offer anything over the stock engineering spl 0.95.3000. Why use a hack when not needed?

accidental bricking? How do you accidentally flash an old radio with out knowing? The newest radio that was just posted in the dev section is compatible. Basically the reason why the old radio wasnt compatible with the Danger SPL is because the Danger SPL is simply the MT3G SPL just modified to be used on the G1. The MT3G was never compatible with the older radio since it came out after the radio update. Also there are advantages to having the Hard SPL do some research before bashing SPLs.

I am not wrong our opinions just differ. I use to be against the Danger SPL also until I flashed it myself and seen that it was safe if you could follow directions which is why I made a How-To for others.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but I'm pretty sure he will.
Personally, I think the 2005 spl is pointless on a g1, but I flashed it ages ago and see no point reverting. There definitely is an advantage to the hardspl for non-US users though.. Some of the european people in particular need the ability to flash international images to get root in the first place.

HardSPL is a modification of the Engineering SPL by cmonex. In addition to the functionality of the Engineering SPL, HardSPL also allows NBH files to be used without matching the CID (carrier ID) check. At the current time the main benefit of this is to allow European G1s flash American NBH files and vice versa.

OP wants OE 1.2.2 , you need danger to flash, 'bugged' OE 1.2.2 means that danger is needed, OP downgrades, OP can't flash 1.2.2 therefore no point downgrading... No point downgrading fullstop... even if not 'broken' it would still flash over Danger.
tbh OE Devs/beta testers should have at least confirmed danger was not needed by downgrading and flashing.

Don't forget that a radio flash can be included in ANY update.zip archive.
That includes the possibility of accidentally flashing a MALICIOUS system image designed to cause bricks.
And as I've said before, there is no guarantee AT ALL regarding what some future radio will be compatible with. Just because HTC has ***LATELY*** been releasing radio images compatible with both SPLs does NOT mean that this trend will continue in the FUTURE. The ONLY guarantee you have is that HTC WILL NOT release RADIO UPGRADES for DREAM that ARE NOT compatible with the STOCK 0.95.x000 SPLs.

No... it doesn't.
It only lets you flash foreign NBH files.
If you have an engineering SPL, there is NO REASON AT ALL to flash NBH files!!!
In fact, if you have an engineering SPL, you SHOULD NEVER flash an NBH file because then you LOSE your ENGINEERING SPL as well as ROOT!!!!

Where on Earth would you be downloading malicious update.zips from? If you don't trust the source, you probably shouldn't try it. Also, you can open the zip and check for a radio image. And future radio images are not pushed to you anymore because you're on a custom rom. Why would you flash a random radio image you found here without other people trying it first?
Your arguments really do make sense. I'm not trying to say you don't have logical points. All I'm saying is if you use the brain, you probably won't brick your phone.

SPL question

I have tried searching the forum but I cannot find a straight answer on upgrading SPLs. I currently have a rooted G1 running CM5.0.8 and I have the engineering spl HBoot - 1.33.2005. My question is that I have seen versions 1.33.2010, and I am wondering what the differences are between and if it would be better to upgrade my device, i.e are there any improvements in the newer spl versions? Thank you to anyone that can provide me an answer!

No. There is nothing of benefit in 1.33.2010 for you.
There is no good reason to change the spl. magic users use 1.33.2009 and 1.33.2010, and nearly no dream users use them.
On the dream it will shrink data/system partitions (increasing cache) thus likely removing the functionality that made you installed danger for in the first place.
I have not seen a change in functionality if there is it's in an undocumented extended function I have not dirived a use for yet.
Both 1.33.2009 and 1.33.2010 also only support 2.x and 3.x radios like the danger spl. So its no safer to install on a dream than danger spl.
