So I had cognition 4.x.x but I realized the rom that I was reading about the other day was cog 5, I didn't see it in rom manager but I did see it in the dev page, I downloaded it and went to install it.after 10 minutes its still on att logo, and I've tried the 3 button move but I just get a screen flash from black back to att logo. Dang, my first brick.

Cognition 5 is a gingerbread rom, you need to follow the instructions on the first or second post to flash it. Can you get to download mode? If you can, try to odin back to stock and go from there...
Also, make sure you read the entire opening posts for installation instructions for every rom you flash.

Get in download mode and flash back to stock DO NOT use 3 botton fix. To get in to download more depending on bootleaders but if on I897 bootloaders take out battery sim and SD, plug in the phone press Vol up and down and insert cable (that's connected to the pc). If that doesn't work consider a Jig

That sucks, I didn't even notice it was a gb rom and I always read the instructions besides this time. I pulled everything mentioned and I get no life when connected to pc while holding down volume up and down. Before I had any replies I did try the 3 buttons but all that brings me is to a little wheel on my screen. So I guess this is it huh?

I just called att and they're sending me a replacement phone, I just played dumb, they tried a few troubleshooting techniques to no avail so they said they'd send me a reconditioned replacement at no cost and ill have it in 5 days or so. Good thing its by back up phone and line, next ill read and read again the proper requirements of said rom.

It won't enter download mode, when I hold all 3 buttons all I get is a Continuing att logo flash. Although I did try it several time with different release timing and I was able to get to a black screen with 1of those little spinning wheels. But I was told not to use 3 button fix just use the volume keys, which did nothing at all.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
The three button fix is a zip file you flash from cwm that replaces one of your boot loaders, you didnt do this did you?try pulling your battery for a awhile have odin open on your pc,insert battery, hold both volume buttons, insert usb. Or try the one click unbrick

First make sure you have the right drivers in your PC. They will be/act different since your on gingerbread bootloaders now. Try the Nexus s drivers or download ask and start all over, it will download the drivers needed. You can also read somewhere in the forums about other drivers/apps that can get you the right drivers for your pc.
Also you can use a jig to get you in download mode.
YOU ARE NOT HARD Bricked at this point SINCE you do get to the att screen. IF you flash the 3 button fix now you will be permenently bricked and the phone will ONLY go e a black screen
IF you send your phone back to att is the state it is in now they MAY see that you flashed something and will charge you the full price of the new phone. You MAY get lucky if att or samsung don't check it but personally I wouldn't risk it. Buy a jig from mobiletech videos for the $8 and make sure you have the correct drivers on your PC. Then you will be able to fix it. Just keep trying, switching USB ports, try a NEW USB cable, keep trying.
I also didn't see it mentioned or missed it but did you turn phone off, plug the USB cord into the PC but now into the phone yet, hold down the volume + volume- buttons, THEN plug in USB cable to phone. And it should put you into download mode.

Your making a big deal out of nothing If the key combo's don't work but the phone shows signs of any life Jig will fix it. You can make one with this or buy one in ebay or mobiletechvideos.com They cheap to buy even cheaper to make if you have patience.
Word of advice Always have a jig around. Its better to have one and not need it than being stuck without it. (also u can just ditch key combo's with it lol)

I need help, my phone is stuck on the LG screen at boot, when I reboot to attempt getting into CWM i get the screen that says "are you sure you want to do a factory reset...." When I do so and factory wipe it goes back to the LG boot screen and doesn't go into Clockwork Recovery. Tried many times but no luck. I also tried connecting it to my pc and getting the LGNPST program but it doesn't see or recognize my phone as there is no way for me to connect it to USB Mass Storage.
Could I have really bricked my phone? I have screwed it up before but always able to get into CWM and turn on USB Mass storage, now I cant even do that. Any Help Please!!!
OOPS sorry i somehow posted this twice!!!
Would help if you posted what you've done to the phone. Since you only said what the problem is not what you did to it.
Hey thanks for replying. Ok here it is. I downloaded Rom Manager from the market that I bought previously for an HTC i had and from there somehow flashed a ROM and the rest is history. Stuck on LG
I downloaded ROM Manger since I got rid of it awhile ago since it didn't work and I have no idea how you could of flashed a rom through it since it'll just say you have to have clockworkmod on your phone unless you picked a different model like the esteem which is this phone but different model which would probably mess up the phone. But after you flashed the rom did anything else happen? Like did the phone work or just reboot and stay at Lg logo?
You know it was late last night and you just reminded me that I did use the Esteem ROM, and after that all it did was rebooted and stayed at the LG Screen, And whenever I try to get into recovery all it does is verify if i want to reset to factory and wipe data, then back to LG. I cant get any of my computers to recognize it on either XP or Win7...Im sorry I didnt say that my phone was rooted and running GingerVOlt1.3 with bk over clock kernel as well
Hmm try the Irc channel see if the people there have answers. http://webchat.freenode.net/ Channel: #lgrevolution
thanks i did that last night but im not sure how to actually use the IRC i tried clicking on several names and ask for help but no one responded. I appreciate your time though.

Beamer,
Thanks for your help. Unfortunately this does not work either. I have tried holding the power button and volume down button several times all it does is take me to the factory wipe screen and after confirming just reboots back to the LG screen and stays there. I dont know what else to try. I have tried on my new Win7 X64 laptop and also on an XP desktop that always works but non of them will "see" my phone as a storage device or anything. Any suggestions???

Want to say thanks for all the work you've done and continue to do with the Revo. Its the only saving grace we have. Maybe you could help me out with this. I am stuck on the LGNPST when I put my phone in Download mode, LGNPST see's it as an "unknown" and only allows me to do a Phonebook Programing under the Emergency Tab, but when I choose the only Bin File and Only *csv. file it displays as error and stops. Im not sure as to what it wants me to do or what its trying to do. In the past I was able to just flash the VS910Ztot and be all done but now I cant even get that option. Do you have any Idea what I need to do??? Please any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hey I had a similar issue with this and the download mode and everything except I was able to get into recovery but it would reboot to fast to restore a full nand backup and I couldn't get the .dll to work either what I ended up doing and it fixed it was booting into recovery going into backups and restore then advanced restore and had enough time in recovery to restore just the boot so I did that next thing I knew the phone rebooted automagically like it had been doing but this time it went past the lg and into the gingervolt boot animation then I got a black screen so I manually booted into recovery did the same steps except this time I was able to advanced restore the system and it rebooted again when it booted up I had a black screen so I boot back into recovery and was finally able to restore a full back up never got an auto reboot so I booted up and the phone worked fine.

I am looking for some serious help, I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 4G LTE (SGH-i957) through the instructions that I found on this site by first installing Clockworkmode Recovery and then installing Jelly Bean 4.1.1 using Odin. Everything seemed to work fine with this, but then I decided to go one step further and load a over clocking kernel via Odin to increase my Processing speed. This process went fine through Odin and then after the auto reboot it all fell apart... the tablet will now only periodically display the first and second samsung logos and then just go blank or will display the battery icon with power off and plugged into the PC. Either way I have been unable to access the Boot screen or the Download screen...
IS THERE A FIX TO THIS? or am I just finished?
I have tried the "One Click Unbrick" program with no results and Odin intermittently recognizes the device is connected to the PC as the Tablet cycles through what appears to be an 1 second long boot up attempt.
Looking for someones brilliant idea haha...
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!
Wrong section, but here goes. I'm no expert but Samsung devices are notoriously hard to eff up beyond fixing.
Can you get back into your recovery? I would do that, do all your normal wipes and reinstall a rom with its stock kernel.
If that doesn't work well then, I'd say Odin back to stock. If it's just a soft brick fixing it shouldn't be a problem.
Of course someone else who knows what they are doing could chime in here lol.

I would love to do exactly what your suggesting but I am so far unable to access the download mode using the pwr and vol keys as normal... also where can I get a stock kernel as I was looking for one for hours yesterday with no luck? Do you have any suggestions on how to re-access the download mode in my current situation. Thank you for you suggestions thus far!
If you have a complete TWRP backup from before you flashed the OC kernel, just reboot into recovery and restore boot. That'll replace the HC kernel with what you were running before. That'll save you the effort of going through the entire process again to get back to JB.

Thank you for your response, so far Odin only picks up the device for a second before it disappears again and keeps repeating the cycle over and over agian. It is as if the Tablet keeps attempting a reboot cycle but fails to initialize the booting process? I don't know if I am making any sense to all of you that are much smarter than I at the stuff.
I am trying to time the start of Odin to the point that when it connects to the device that it is also recognizing the device at the same time... Kinda poking in the dark here as I am out of solutions...
The tablet attempts a reboot every 45 SECS and it recognized for only 3 SECS... Thoughts??
You need to get it to stop rebooting and into download or recovery mode. Try every button combo possible. If you hold power down for ten seconds it should shut off

I have tried every key combination possible with no results the only thing the tablet does is do a quick single vibrate just like it does when you power it on and it boots up just without the actual booting process... and when the tablet is plugged into the PC it displays the battery symbol with the star bright icon over it like its thinking about charging but to my knowledge does nothing beyond that as far as charging is concerned. But it does do the single vibrate once every 45 secs as if it was booting up and is recognized on the PC through Odin for only 3 secs... not sure where to go from here now??
Hold the volume buttons down don't just press them. Also try button combos but instead of hitting power plug your charger in and out to get it to reboot.

Hi,
Thanks for that.
After several trials, I did manage to get back in download mode and managed to flash the installed Firmware 2.3.6 without any problem.
After resetting, everything seemed to be working fine. However, I left it turned off overnight, switched it back on again this morning but
nothing has changed. My original problem was that on switch on, it takes ages for the phone to activate. I get the welcoming screen
that goes away, comes back for anything up to 5 minutes until it eventually goes on to full screen and everything works well.
So what is causing this problem and what else can I do
I have a Verizon SCH-I800 that is stuck on Verizon logo.
I need the stock ROM to put on the SD card so I can restore it from ythe card.
Can anyone help?
Thanks, Chuck

Did you save the rom to your computer? If you did, then can you get the tab to exchange files with the computer? This way you could move the files over via usb.
If you can't connect the tab to the computer via usb, then you have a sd card reader on the computer? You could put the micro sd in a sd adapter, put in the reader, and move the zip files. Then put back into the tab, and flash.

Yes, that is what I did. the error message that I got was after I told it to recover from ther SD drive.
Now I have bigger issues,
I found another package to use with the Hiemdall.
Now all I get on the screen is a picture of a phone and a picture of a computer with a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it.
Bummer
Chuck
I just had the same yellow triangle myself! I had a few problems with it, so i reflashed galaxy cubed. The computer was acting up and i ended with the yellow triangle. So, turn off the computer, then turn it back on. Wait for it to fully boot. Turn on the tab, wait for the yellow triangle. Plug into the computer. My computer beeps when something is plugged in. This lets you know the computer recognizes the tab. Then open heimdall the folder, run zadig to install the drivers. Close out, open heimdall front end and reflash. This is exactly what i did yesterday. A blue line should apear as it progresses under the yellow triangle.

Well, I left it overnight and I just now ran the flashing procedure, it looked like it worked just fine, it went through all the steps and said it completed all the steps and released the device. But it will not power on, it is just blank, I can't do anything to get it to respond.
Any ideas??
Thanks,
Chuck
Well, are positive you flashed the right rom for your tab? The wrong rom = brick. If you did, the only thing i can think it could be a bad battery. I don't know how to check the battery. Can you get into recovery?

OK, here is what is happening now.
It looks like it flashed. I charged the battery again, now it still will not boot up. It gets stuck on the verizon screen.
Yes, you can get into the recovery screen.
Now it will not let me have the download screen. Holding power and VOL up.
The Samsung comes up then goes away then comes up etc...
No download screen.
Wow , I think this thing is ready for the trash can LOL
I just got it into download screen again, I flashed it again.
It goes through everything just fine.
Then when it reboots I see something about E: can't remount something. ( IT WENT BY REAL FAST)
but anyway, it still gets stuck on the Verizon screen.....

Yeah, it does sound like something is wrong inside. Bad internal memory or something. See if you can get it to flash the error message again to try to read it. It may help, to get to recovery hold power and volume up buttons together, but when the samsung logo appears let go of the power button while still holding volume up.
If you can figure out the error message, then you can figure out your next step.

I looked at the install instructions again. It says the tab will bootloop. Go to recovery-- power and volume up until samsung logo, then only let go of the power button. Wipe data and cache.
