Im making this thread to curb the railroading of other threads.
Please list your known bugs and issues here.
Its my hope that given enough issues and bugs posted here, cricket may get word of this thread and use it for reference to help improve the OS, as well as give users a single thread to reference.
Some guidelines:
Please list bugs/issues/errors, as well as the steps you took in order to produce/reproduce the error.
If you have a solution to a bug/issue/error, please quote the original error along with your fix with a topic of "SOLVED".
Please,, NO GRIPING about bugs/issues/errors. Its counter-productive to this thread.
Don't post duplicate bugs/issues/errors. This is also counter-productive. PLEASE READ THE THREAD THROUGH BEFORE POSTING A BUG! It may already be posted.
Thanks!
Honestly one of the only bugs (annoyance really) is the issue with contact photos not showing up with SMS messages. At least that's all I've seen so far. Its not an urgent problem, but I thought it was at least worth mentioning to get the ball rolling.
EDIT: My apologies, I thought I had read someone else have the same problem. You're right, its probably isolated then, and I couldn't list steps to reproduce the issue since it happened after the tethered update.

Did you read the initial post?
You're talking like this is a general issue. Your issue isn't general, , it's isolated (my contacts are fine).
Again, please list the steps you took to produce your error. Nothing more, nothing less.
Information only, please.

2.2 Cricket Zio Audio/Pandora issue
Hello, new to the forums, lurking for a while. I own a cricket zio (unrooted) and waited for the OTA update, and before hand i read a few posts talking about audio issues from people who tethered. When i finally updated, i also heard a few issues of my own. At first i thought it was an overall audio issue, but then realized its a isolated type of issue at least in my case:
1. I first made a phone call, and since have made quite a few. It seems as though the ringing is always distorted in some weird robotic way for some reason now, as it was never like this before 2.2, but the audio quality of the actual phone conversation hasnt changed at all. The distortions of the ringing are the only thing ive heard as far as the phone call quality goes. So im ok with this, just something i noticed.
2. I then immediately checked my pandora quality, and was horrified that it sounded terrible no matter if i had it on high quality in the pandora settings or not. I tried the two different headphones i have, and it was the same on both. I also tried to unplug from the audio jack and wait 5 secs, like suggested in the older audio thread, nothing. I then changed to the last.fm app, and it seemed to be working fine. So im kinda dombfounded as to what the problem is.
3. While listening to mp3s on my SD card, using the stock android audio player, they sounded muffled and low in the same way pandora sounded. I read in another thread about the sound quality issue, someone mentioning poweramp, which i downloaded. Right away i noticed a HUGE difference in the quality, not to mention that this is a great app altogether, so that fixed that issue for me.
If anyone else is having these issues or any similar, myself and im sure quite a few others would like to hear about them so we can possibly find fixes.
thanks.
Issues, basic hacking
Wipe and re-update phone. First thing off, installed superuser and busybox, copied dump_image &c, began to do partition dumps.
Issue: mount boot partition (mount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /wherever). umount /wherever. Reboot. Get 'invalid boot image header' and put into fastboot. Flash the image dump of boot back on. Reboot.
Kyocera logo is gone, replaced by a white stripe in the approximate logo area.
Another audio issue is the presence of a faint buzzing hum and intermittent click, at least on the headphone jack. The noise sometimes continues even after the phone is powered down.
Contacts not displaying on incoming calls
Issue: Contact names not displayed when receiving incoming phone calls, only number. Selecting call log after call hang up, numbers change to name after 10-15 seconds.
Method to duplicate: Factory reset, formatted SD card, re-sync with Active sync. Contacts are listed, but do not display on incoming call. Have factory reset & format SD card multiple times. Issue is not isolated, have duplicated on 2 seperate ZIO devices.

did you sync before unmounting, or alter the boot image in any way?
We had this issue while testing openzios clockworkmod recovery. We would make a backup.zip, and upon restoration of backup.zip, the logo disappeared.
There is something that is not getting copied when the boot image is backed up.
Something to do with the header size we think.

No, I just mounted and then immediately unmounted the boot partition.
I'm somewhat amazed that *mounting* boot would kill it.

my wife's zio and mine are both having the same contacts issue...displays photo for different contact than is calling or being called..only after tethered update...cant be isolated if this is happening like this...and i have read quite a few people with this issue..sorry..talking about the contact photo ssue..sorry ..I replied to the post wrong..lol
Try backing up your SD media to ur PC (pics, music, etc).
Use titanium backup to backup ur apps, and SMS / mms.
Use Google to backup your contacts .
Format sdcard through your phone.
Perform factory reset.
Restore backed up data to sdcard.
Restore apps, SMS with titanium backup (apk only, not data. You'll have to reprogram ur apps ).
Restore contacts through Google sync.
I've noticed odd bugs with my ringtones through zedge (playing wrong ringtones even though another ringtone was selected).
Formatting my sdcard and thus removing all 1.6 system data remnants from the sdcard solved my problem.
Hope this helps, and report back with results

The contacts issue is a bug. Formatting sd and a factory wipe does not fix it. I suspect that 2.2.1 is just too much for the processor in these phones.
Not true, and not true.
My contacts are fine, and the processor is more than capable of handling 2.2

I was using my phone a few hours ago (adding an icon from the application drawer to the home screen if that will help with solving the problem) when suddenly, the phone reset itself as though I had done a wipe from the recovery console. I had to sign back into Google and re-sync my contacts and calendar. All my settings were back to defaults. My home screen icons disappeared and changed to the default icons (browser, contacts, dialer, market, messaging, maps) as did the wallpaper. All my SMS messages were gone. Basically, it as was as though I had wiped and flashed the ROM for the first time.
However, and this is the weird part. Not only were all my apps still there but they were still installed. All the settings were lost but they were still there. I am not concerned with the restoration of my settings or anything like that. I've got that all covered with backups. My big question is why did it happen? Has anyone experienced or heard of this phantom reset? My ROM details are in my sig but just in case that changes and someone visits this post later, it will make more sense to them if I list it in the post itself.

Well, I can tell you why your apps survived, because you have them on sd card so that's not weird, you can wipe all you want and they will survive.
I would say this is a glitch, don't worry about it unless it happens again.

Yes, the apps on sd being the reason I didn't lose them makes sense. I had a different problem losing apps on the sd when I wiped but that was a mistakes in the way I was slinking and it was also on JF1.51 (a2sd is very unstable on that ROM). Anyway, I'm seriously hoping it was just a one time glitch because my setup is voodoo smooth otherwise. I finally got my G1 running perfectly and I'd hate to think something was wrong. Either way, Nandroid is always an option.
Phantom Reset Not a Glitch. Happened Again!
OK. So it happened again. The phantom reset that I described in the first post happened to me again. It's pretty annoying to have to perform Nadroid restores all the time. Anyone have any real thoughts other than telling me it was a fluke?
Possible Answer
I am pretty certain that this happened right after I used Backup for Root Users. I have my identical setup on my father's G1 and this has never happened. He has told me in the past that he does not use that app. I don't want to instantly blame the app but I want to provide as much info as possible. Cyan's ROMs are too good for this to be an issue.

SOLVED
Thanks a lot. I will try and write-up (on dev's site) of what I was doing when it happened. It happened to me twice so I don't think I will use it again (at least until it's fixed). I am a backup freak so I like to use multiple apps but nandroid seems to cover it all. I will stick with what seems to work (and work well) for now.
On a side note, Cyan's latest looks too juicy not to try out. Going to upgrade now.
Hello there,
Thank you for taking the time to read this thread. I am posting here because quite honestly I have NO idea where to start searching for a solution. Lately i've been experimenting with some of the Hero ports in the developer section, particularly JesterBlur and Slick Willy (and previous version). For some reason, the texting application screws up after it has been used for a little bit. The first symptoms ive noticed is the "This message cannot be sent" while having full signal and 3G, just randomly says that. Then, when the phone reboots, it sends a text message from earlier in the conversation randomly. Finally, the times are messed up and so my response to the other persons question would be above their question, as if I answered before they responded, but the times on the messages are correct...
Anyone have any clue how to fix this?? Thank you!
I cant say I know how to "FIX" your problem but in my experience with texting issues I would simply redownload the rom, not just reflash since the problem likely lies within the MMS.apk and sometimes files become corrupt during download even though you may not realize. It happens alot more than you may think.
I would suggest you do a nandroid or some other sort of backup to save your data, SMS, settings, etc. if you need to. Then I would completely delete and recreate my ext2/3 partition. This may not be necessary but the way I see it is if you are going to wipe, why not just reformat for a completely clean slate. Then reflash the ROM as usual.
Note: you do not have to delete your FAT or linux-swap partitions to delete and recreate your Ext2/3. I'm sure you know how to do your partitioning but if you need any instruction just shoot me an email. [email protected]
Hi there...Posted in the Firefly Q&A section but don't seem to be getting a response...I'm probably being impatient but it doesn't seem the Q&A posts are viewed as frequently as the forum itself...
I seem to be dropping my signal upon getting a call. It will ring for a brief second, and then it will go back to the home screen and loose reception, the caller will get a busy signal (didn't even know you could get those on cell phones...), and I won't get any missed calls (or any calls for that matter) in the log.
Subsequent calls have been met with no dial tone, and then straight to voice mail. At that point I won't have any indication that someone tried to call, not even a ring.
Is this a modem issue? I'm fairly new to flashing so I'm not too sure what's going on.
A reboot seems to allow it to ring at least, but only for a second and then the caller gets a busy signal.
This was flashed on yesterday night, and I'm pretty sure that was the first phone call I received since flashing. Tried calling myself from a home phone to the same results. Making phone calls works and sounds just fine.
Also: I am on Rogers if that makes any difference.
Thanks
Have you wiped cache and dalvik cache? Maybe a factory reset as well and then try it before you restore anything. Or Have you tried any other modems?
I have not... Im not exactly sure what I'm looking for... when I do figure out which modem to use... is it just a matter of installing it with CWM?

i cant tell you which one to try that all depends on your phone and area
try the ones labled I9000 the one in firefly is jk4 fyi..and yes a simple cwm flash is how you install a modem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391
Just tried wiping caches and installing the JP9 Modem...Still no luck...There seems to be some sort of error that pops up on the screen right before everything crashes but it only lasts for about a millisecond before it closes down...Is there any way to see what that error is? Can still call out and it knows its getting a phone call but it still goes to a busy signal...Will try a factory reset if there's no other ideas
Go ahead with the factory reset ... If that doesn't work try flashing firefly again...sorry
I just discovered this same exact problem today too. Honestly Im a complete noob when it comes to flashing and modding. I just flashed to firefly 3.0 two days ago and i really love it but the call dropping thing is really frustrating.

It would seem the Factory Reset cleared things up... I have not recovered my apps via Titanium Backup yet...am wondering if it's something that it brings back that is causing problems?
K ill try that. Just to clarify, a factory reset will just wipe it to a clean firefly right?

One thing I did notice was that when I did a factory reset (I did it through CWM...should I have done it through Android?) was that SGS Tools was gone, as was Galaxy Kernel Flasher, and some others, but not ALL of the Apps (ie Spare Parts, Superuser were still there)...is there any way to get them back or should I reflash if I wanted them?

No need to re-flash, you can download the apps through the market. Factory reset from recovery or from android will give you the same result.
When u restore with titanium backup don’t restore system files and data only missing apps and data .that solved it for me when I had that problem but my backup was from 2.1 and I was restoring it on 2.2 I was not sure if that was is what's causing the problem.

Good to know, thanks, I'll keep that in mind when I restore
- restored missing apps + data, system data through titanium after having done a factory reset
- notice that i can't change the wallpaper anymore (same glitch was happening the first time around too)
- also notice that my system data hasn't been fully restored
- reboot and notice the wallpaper is now changed and system data is now all in place... however, a test call shows the same problem (phone vibrates once then loses signal, caller gets a busy tone)
- reset to factory again
- restore only apps+data
- test call works
so far, so good!
thanks
Don't restore system data at all! That causes problems as you clearly experienced.
who can help me ,my nexus one can not make any sound,
I'm not sure if i can help you.
But I'm pretty sure anyone who does needs a little bit more information.
Is your N1 rooted or not? If yes which Rom do you use?
What happened before it stopped making sounds?
I could imagine that could be usefull for people trying to help.
Make a complete wipe and see if it helps
Hi!
Initially had this issue when I bought my N1 (a store sample) and it re-surfaced a week ago. Now this is from experience only, so I'm not pretending to know whether "your N1 fails to initialize soundboard for reason X"....
Issue that I solved succesfully is this:
I had no sound from the phone speaker (no ringing, no alerts, no music) - and actually all phonecalls were also silent (and ended up rebooting the phone about 15 secs into the call). What's freaky is that I was able to play music, hear alerts, take calls etc. over my headphones!
I was suspecting something to be wrong with the ringtones from the SD card.
So before wiping your phone (even with nandroid recovery it's a b*tch of a job) try this: Reset all alert tones to some default tones (which are in the rom). Turn N1 off, remove SD & sim, then let it reboot. Then power down, insert sim, keep SD out. Reboot. You should get the tones/sounds/in-call audio back after a few tries of these combinations. You can also try unmounting/remounting the card repeatedly. Also, it may help if you have a second SD card ready (empty or without). When you get the sound back, you can again start using your custom tones off the SD card.
(I usually wipe any unused ringtones in the process, and have even removed the tones from my card, and then reinserted them on the SD, which also seems to work after a few power-down/power-up cycles.)
Sorry, it's totally "unscientific" but if you have, say, half an hour to a full hour to spare do the above and your N1 will be back on track.
Pistolero0 is right we could use a little more info. Another thing that I would like to know is can you play sound through the headphone jack or Bluetooth or is it just the phone speaker.
Uh-oh... Just when I answered, I got the same problem again. This time, it's taken me a day to cycle/recycle. I've gotten the sounds back twice, only to lose them due to a random re-boot. I'm still suspecting it's a question of the SD notifications/ringtones messing up something in the system. (Or it's due to a certain app getting installed or uninstalled.)
So, the sound sometimes comes back, sometimes doesn't.
So, I'm also asking for help on this one....
Symptoms
No in-call audio whatsoever
No audio through internal speaker (the ear-speaker)
No audio through the speakerphone-speaker (on the back)
No notification sounds, no alarm sounds, no ringing.
Music cannot play (the track doesn't seem to advance).
All audio works over bluetooth headset - I can hear notifications/ringtones/alarms, screenlock sound, and even music (winamp & stock).
However, I still cannot make a call over BT (I do hear the ringing, but the audio doesn't connect on an incoming call. Outbound calls are completely silent on BT phones as well.
No sound whatsoever over the standard plugin HF-headphones (the ones that came with the N1).
So my plea is also, how do I fix this? (Wiped & Nandroid-backuped once, but the problem resurfaced, so I don't think that's the thing, then).
EDIT: Now trying the passimg method (FRG83-->GRI40-->root-->GRJ22+SU.zip) - I guess I should have done this aways back, (like 3months ago when I got my N1) but didn't.
There we go, froyoed for a while

What a bummer... Froyo, but NO sound. [O]I guess it is a hardware thing then after all, despite all the evidence I've seen so far?[/O]
RESULTS
Some hours later am now back on rooted stock GRJ22, but still no sounds. This must then be a hardware thing - albeit one that doesn't manifest itself always.
Suspecting something is wrong with the 3,5mm plug? (Or a wire is crossed somewhere, which silences the ear-speaker and speakerphone speaker alike).
Still suffering. Anyone got an idea?
Did anyone get their problem solved?
Well I've never had this problem but can I ask you a question when you flash do you use 3X system wipe and 5X data/cache wipe because I don't really think this is hardware cause or else in theory if it is hardware the problem should stay even after a reflash unless it is consistent with something else (example every time you hit X amount of memory used, every time you hit X amount of run time, etc).
So try the 3X system and 5X data/cache and see what happens.

You mean first do the system + data/cache wipes, then flash?
By system wipe, you mean the usual reset-to-factory status kind of wipe?
And how do you proceed with the data/cache wipe? Like, with Titanium or some other choice?
Sorry for the n00biness, I try not to flash schtuff too often. Anyway, I'm going to try your suggestion out as soon as I can.
Sorry for the late reply I haven't had much free time lately but why I say system wipe I mean either use temasek system wipe (if on Amon RA) or the built in wipe system option in clockwork mod depending on your recovery. And for data/cache that is the factory reset.
Update - One Factory Servicing Later, a fix of sorts
Okay. After two weeks of consternation I walked to the service center.
6 wks later (that would be today) I got my N1 back....
Motherboard had been replaced, rigid flex had been replaced, antenna had been replaced. Warranty repairs on level 1 & level 2 had been done. Anyway, quiiiiite happy now.
And yes, I do have sound. Luckily, I was still within warranty, and will continue to be. Lovely.
(Presently going back the FRG83 - FRG83D - FRG83G - GRI40 (gingerbreak root) - GRJ22 route).
Good evening,
My phone (T-Mobile Note 4 on stock 4.4.4, rooted) worked just fine until I froze an app I shouldn't have. When I boot up, everything loads just fine, about 20 seconds in, I get two quick vibrations, and I'm back to a "Samsung" startup screen; the process repeats ad infinitum. I attempted dirty flashing the stock ROM, as well as restarting the phone in safe mode, but it still does the same thing. I'm reasonably confident that if I defrost apps (all of them if need be), the phone will stabilize, but the window of opportunity between boot loops is too short to do so within Android.
Is there a way, within TWRP (or another recovery environment), to defrost apps? Since TWRP is still functioning fine, I am thinking that this may be repairable in the recovery environment...or am I stuck doing a full wipe and restoring data using TB or similar?
Thank you for your consideration.

Recovery still functions because that's what that is, a way to 'recover' your phone. That said, if you used TiBu within your ROM to freeze an app, that's how you defrost it. I would imagine you are stuck doing another install. That's what I did when I made those mistakes with TiBu.
Basically you can't really run apps in recovery, you run zips that add and remove things to different positions.

I know the recovery environment is a bit of a different animal; I certainly wouldn't expect TiBu to do the job. More what I'm getting at is, the way I understand how app freezing works (and it's entirely possible that I'm wrong in this regard), it effectively sets its chmod to 000, so that the file system prohibits the binaries from being able to be accessed. If it's a matter of recursively running chmod on a particular directory, I know that TWRP makes it possible to run terminal commands, so it would be a matter of running a 'chmod 755' on the correct folder to ultimately do a defrost, which can be done from a shell prompt.
That's more the thought I had, though I'm about ten minutes away from saying "screw it" and reflashing...but I'd rather not, if at all possible.

I see what you mean, I tend to forget that because I go the 'up it' route and clean slate it. I've done a ton of freezing and deleting the wrong apps on many different phones. And being the tire of person that used to flash a new ROM every three days, never really bothered me.

I loved being able to do that. The reason I've gotten more wary about reflashing ROMs is the fact that I've got about 62,000 text/MMS messages now. I'd like to keep them, but thus far I haven't found an app that will do some sort of "autoarchive" app function where my 200 most recent texts are treated normally, but the rest are stored in an independent database which itself works similar to the 'online' UI. Resultantly, my restore operations take 5-6 hours, and because Google has thus decreed that only one SMS app can write to the database at a time, I'm stuck keeping my phone in airplane mode during that time, otherwise texts that come in will be delivered to /dev/null...so ultimately, if /that/ problem can be solved, I'd love to get back to being able to be flash happy again. At this point, though, I'm clearly stuck...but if anyone else can chime in, I'd greatly appreciate the knowledge!

HA! What a coincidence! I use evolve sms. I backup my texts regularly to the cloud. I use Dropbox but it also allows google drive.
As far as archive goes? It allows you to delete the previous backup add you upload. I don't know if it archives recents vs everything. I delete the backup every time I upload the latest.
