hi there,
been trying to update my nexus one which has firmware 2.1update1 installed on it and build number is ERE27.....i have tried manually updating the firmware FRF50-from-ERE27 and have tried other 2.3.3 firmwares....
i have been trying the method of Copying the file onto the SD card and renaming it as update.zip file onto your microSD card.
i keep getting this error:
assert failed: getprop ("ro.bootloader") == "0.33.2012"||
getprop ("ro.bootloader") == "0.33.2012"||
E:error in /sdcard/update.zip

Please help me...am stuck on 2.1 still.
Read the Wiki.
Execute "unroot/restore" guide, PASSIMG way, with FRG33 ROM.
Then you can root, install custom recovery, and flash rooted (or stock) Gingerbread.
... sorry wrong posting
Hi,
if you are still unrooted, please consider 2 hints (among others):
1. follow the right sequence of the updates starting from ERE27 when using the original update files is required
2. when renaming to update.zip make sure it does not became update.zip.zip
I am short of time atm and cannot provide you more detailed links, so you may look for them here on xda-developers, if you need.
Good luck!

I went ahead and rooted my G1 using the flashrec.apk method through linda. When ever the rooting is complete, I go ahead and restart my device in recovery mode to flash a custom ROM, but everytime the rom is copying files, i get the following error message:
E:Cant chown/mod /system/xbin
(No such file or directory)
E:failure at line 80:
set_perm_recursive 0 2000 0755 0

Installation aborted.
I followed all the rooting steps precisely and it seems to root fine, but no matter what ROM i try to flash, i continue to get this error. Can somebody please help me out with this???
fyi...I have tried at least 5 different ROMS posted here on XDA and each one gives me the same error above...
Did you take out the battery and the SD card and place them back in before you loaded the rom? Take out the SD card and then take out the battery, put back in the sd then put back in the battery. WIPE EVERYTHING, and try again.
Also see if you partitioned your sd correctly.
If that doesn't work, try un-rooting then re-root your phone.
And start over.
u need to FLASH THE NEWEST RADIO.....then read up on how to flash the DEATH SPL....u didn't search because that is the most common error for people who have hard spl when the nead the 1.33.2005 spl go search
Look in Q&A and ask there, search is your friend. make sure when you find the relevant thread and ask, you tell people which recovery image , radio and all you are using as well as the Rom you're trying to flash. Sounds to me like you're trying to flash a Rom that requires the danger all and you don't have it

OT iknow, but Eq, your on the ball tonight bro
Hey everyone!
I'm having some big problems trying to root my Captivate with Rogers. I have tried a bunch of different methods, and every time I try and load the phone in recovery mode (re-installing packages) I get this error:
Installing Muti-CSC
--Install from sd card...
Finding Update package...
Opening Update package...
E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted.
I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong. I've done the "one click" roots, and several "manual" roots. I only have a mackbook, so it's hard to do the manual ones..
I've been copying the "update.zip" file onto my sd card from my desktop, but this error has been coming up consistently no matter what I do to try and root the phone.
Anyways, if someone could help me out, It would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

So I was trying to follow directions at this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLNv_-sEng4 to install CyanogenMod 7 on Captivate. But it fails after applying CM7. (at 6:44 on that video). It finds the package, opens it, but then errors out, (Staus 7). Heres what I did, and what I downloaded. First I copied "captivate-efsbackup.zip 2011-03-03 159.4 KB" and "update-cm-7-04282011-NIGHTLY-Captivate-signed.zip < 8 hours ago 94.1 MB" from "http://sourceforge.net/projects/teamhacksung/files/captivate/" and downloaded "cm7-captivate-initial-kernel.tar 2011-03-19 3.5 MB" from same website. (on video, file name is "cm7-Captivate-initial-20110304.zip"), I tried twice, and same thing. Heres the status when I try to apply CM7

please follow the WRITTEN instructions in the cyanogenmod thread. you are doing it wrong (you never used the initial zip).
please don't open new threads because you are incapable of reading.
oh, my bad... thats where the mistake is, i didnt see the initial, thank you, I will try that later.
one quick questions. instructions say
12. Apply zip from sdcard: cm7-DEVICE-initial-XXXXXXXX.zip
13. Do a factory reset / data wipe!
14. Reboot
15. Install the latest update after a reboot!
on step 14, do I have to boot into the android OS, and then restart into recovery mode, and select updated from sd card, and install the update?

yes, you have to botto into android at least once before updating.
There's a sticky in here for these kinds of questions. Do NOT start new threads.
and another one closed. Please do a search before posting.
I've tried G.O.T., AOR and MiniMod and they all fail to apply the update.zip:
Installing...
assert failed: is_mounted("/system")
E:Error in /sdcard/OpenRecovery/updates/<ModName>.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Any hints are greatly appreciated
Edit:
OK - searching the miui-germany forums brought up bad news for me...
It seems like I have to either modify the .zips or inject the files within manually into /system/app and /system/framework
Annoying
PROBLEM SOLVED thanks to digixmax for the bootloader zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57096448&postcount=11
Cyanogenmod 11.
Tablet was acting weird. Wasn't turning on in general, just black. Then I tried to reset it using the n and power buttons for 30 seconds. It did boot up eventually.
Then it froze and rebooted, and ever since only boots to CWM.
I've tried factory reset and reflashing to no avail, only cwm will boot.
I read it might have something to do with bootdata.
Like I said, I got it to work initially after it would only boot to a black screen, then it froze, now this. I'm worried I might have corrupted the EMMC way way back with an older rom.
It's likely that your problem is one that is described at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21381141&postcount=1 (the post was written for the Nook Tablet, but the BCB & BootCnt exist and work same way for the HD/HD+), in which case you can try to reset/restore BCB & BootCnt by flashing flashable_fix_bootdata-hummingbird.zip available at http://www.mediafire.com/download/04qhwylk36sofbl/flashable_fix_bootdata-hummingbird.zip.
If resetting BCB & BootCnt does not help then I'd suggest you try re-installing CM11.
thx for the advice
albeit, I received an error when flashing the file using cwm.
Code:
EMMC CWM-based recovery v6.0.4.6
-- Installing: /external_sd/flashable_fix_bootdata-hummingbird.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
E:Error in /exteranl_sd_flashable_fix_bootdata-hummingbird.zip
(Status 4)
Installation Aborted.
Status 4 is a problem with the script in the zip. Double triple checked search and I've seen it before myself.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2355223
Just a thought that since you can get into cwm, you could try using adb and browsing the emmc to see if its there and intact. twrp (just put it on an sdcard) has a file manager built-in as well. Is that worth doing? If need be you could save files that way too if its still intact.

I fixed the error in the file-name of "updater-script" in the flashable zip file.
You can re-download flashable_fix_bootdata-hummingbird.zip and give it another try.
redownloaded the same zip as instructed: flashable_fix_bootdata-hummingbird.zip; in the 1st mediafire link http://www.mediafire.com/download/04...ummingbird.zip you have posted. (which has an uploaded date of 9-21-2014) Same issue.
btw. I have flashed cm11 over this, that will flash (but not fix my nook, still boots only to cwm). However, this update file will not take.
How should this file structure look like unzipped? I keep reading about an update script file. the only file I see named update is buried way deep in some android subfolder
update-binary
updater-script-bootdata
Okay, I figured out what I was supposed to fix to get past error 4
Name: META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
SHA1-Digest: 29co0QiSKyDerOQ5Ggv0EV16f9g=
so i changed updater-script-bootdata to updater-script in the META-INF/com/google/android/ folder
then...
I got a different error
Code:
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "hummingbird" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "ovatino"
E:Error in /external_sd_/flashable_fix_bootdata-hummingbird-diff.zip
(Status 7)
Some flag check fails. This is a nook hd with cm11 emmc installed

You need to use a CWM older than v6045. The ones made for CM11 will not work.

The script could be fixed to eliminate status 7 error on cm11 recovery, but without any changes its like leapinlar says.

Use this link for the corrected zip file: http://www.mediafire.com/download/30leabd7tjeytn4/flashable_fix_bootdata-hummingbird.zip.
Updater-script in folder META-INF\com\google\android\ is indeed the script used to flash BCB and BootCnt into /bootdata.

You can get the old version of verygreen's CWM from his CM10.1 thread or from https://www.mediafire.com/#6a4rivb8kkdfu -- the EMMC version is (recovery.img) in his flashable cwm-recovery-ovation-3.zip, the SD version is (ramdisk.cwm) inside his emmc-cwm-early2.1.img or inside verygreen_emmc-cwm-early2.1-boot.zip at https://www.mediafire.com/#6a4rivb8kkdfu (verygreen_emmc-cwm-early2.1-boot.zip has the same complete set of CM10.x compatible SD-based boot/CWM files as emmc-cwm-early2.1.img but packed in a .zip file).
