Hey everyone!
I'm having some big problems trying to root my Captivate with Rogers. I have tried a bunch of different methods, and every time I try and load the phone in recovery mode (re-installing packages) I get this error:
Installing Muti-CSC
--Install from sd card...
Finding Update package...
Opening Update package...
E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted.
I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong. I've done the "one click" roots, and several "manual" roots. I only have a mackbook, so it's hard to do the manual ones..
I've been copying the "update.zip" file onto my sd card from my desktop, but this error has been coming up consistently no matter what I do to try and root the phone.
Anyways, if someone could help me out, It would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
-Chris

I hope this is a acceptable area to ask this:
I was trying to install a boot animation, more specifically the android peeing on apple. I tried the 480x800 version and got this:
# MANUAL MODE #
--Appling Muti-CSC...
Installing Muti-CSC
--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted
any ideas on what I did wrong?

I do not believe our phones are compatible with the standard bootanimation.zip updates. Our boot animations are stored in a qimg (or something, can't remember off the top of my head) image. We're able to move qimg's from other galaxy s devices to our own and even change the poweron/poweroff sounds because they aren't stored in the same place, but I don't think someone has managed to get a custom bootanimation.zip file working on our phones
UPDATE: I've finally found the correct guide located here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Rooting_HTC_Branded_EBI1_Dreams
But now I've run into another problem..
I get all the way up to Step D, flashing the zip file '1_33_2005_spl.zip' from the SDcard then it gives me the error;
'Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:No signature (26 files)
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted'
Could it be because I'm not rooted or something?
I also tried following this guide
http://droidxhacks.com/droid-x-hacks/how-to-root-droid-x/
But I get stuck at Step 11.
It tells me 'cp: not found'
Any help would be appreciated.
UPDATE 2: So the reason it wasn't working was because Safari on this Mac was downloading the files and automatically unzipping them, so I'd re-zip them. And it didn't work when I would try to flash them. I downloaded the files using Opera instead and that kept them as a zip file. It ended up working.
I'm loving 2.2 right now, so much faster and a lot better than running 1.5.
Okay. I am running froyo 2.2.
I have downloaded an "update.zip" to try and root my phone. I rebooted my phone to the recovery screen to try and install the update. This is frustrating me because it won't let me do it. I am going to type the message verbatim.
"-- install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Verifying update package...
E :signature verification failed
Installation aborted."
WTF is that about.
Also, I have tried to root it manually as well. The terminal emulator keeps "force close" on me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Might want to search or maybe look in the 2.2 official thread for this instead of opening a new thread. It has been covered time and time agian

Cyanogenmod's GAPPS package is at the bottom of the following page:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Gapps#Google_Apps
Simply flash through ClockworkMod Recovery. You will then have Market, GMail, etc.
And another which i'd like to know is about the camera, there's loodz of black dots when camera is opened
Sent from my Milestone using XDA Premium App

please help me i got no idea hoe to go about it ......when i checked the open recovery folder it did have the update.zip file .......
thanks in advance .....hurry guys
You shouldn't put the update.zip file in OR folder. As the error message showed you should put it in your sdcard root directory and keep it as update.zip.
Good luck to you!
Thanks mate ! fixed that extremely happy bout it !

Are u sure that there is a update.zip file on your sdcard?
If not,u'd better to figure it out in the bandboard'Motorola Milestone Android Development'.
This is a duplication and is already solved.
To Abu3792: Please edit this post and mark it as solved, thanks.
And what was the solution ?
I suppose you forgave to flash the vulnerable recovery.
