Not able to apply update.zip , please help - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

hey guys for some reason i had to unroot so i followed the steps given in the forum ....now that i found out that there's new cool rom i want flash but when i click on apply sd : update.zip.....i've got a milestone
theres a message
E:can't open /cache/recovery/command
--Instal from sdcard...
Finding update package ...
opening update package...
verifying update package...
E:failed to open /sd/update.zip(no such file or directory )
E:signature verification failed
installation aborted

Are u sure that there is a update.zip file on your sdcard?
If not,u'd better to figure it out in the bandboard'Motorola Milestone Android Development'.

This is a duplication and is already solved.
To Abu3792: Please edit this post and mark it as solved, thanks.

And what was the solution ?
I suppose you forgave to flash the vulnerable recovery.

Problem installing Froyo

I have an unrooted, stock Nexus phone on T-Mobile.
I downloaded the update from this website and followed the directions to install the update.
It immediately says
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
And then keeps stopping at:
verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
I've tried a couple different sources for the update and every one stops there.
Any ideas?
What update are you running and from what version.
The ones from google (ERE -> FRF, FRF50 -> FRF72) and for non-rooted phones, the rest are for root users.
ERE27. Does that sound right?
you have to get the file for ERE50 before you can go to ERE72
Do you have a download link for it? I've been searching but haven't found it.
it should be found in the stickies in the general forum. If you don't find it there you can find a mirror link on www.androidguys.com
And sorry ere is older, you want frf50 then 72
so, i'm still getting these errors::
It immediately says
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
And then keeps stopping at:
verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check
and that's from trying to recover with
signed-passion-FRF50-from-ERE27.1e519a24 (renamed update) my windows knows it's a zip already.
OK, now I have reformatted the SD card just to make sure that the update file is alright.
I'm pretty sure the problem lies in the E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
I might be wrong but if anyone knows what the deal is I would really appreciate some input.
Thanks.
Almost same problem
Sorry for hijacking your tread djphooka but seeing we have almost same issues here.
I try to do the update with signed-passion-FRF50-from-ERE27.1e519a24.zip and have almost a similar problem.. it do say E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command when i get in the recovery menu
and when i run the apply sdcard:update.zip it opens the package then i get E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Any help on this issue?
some info on my nexus one:
Kernel version: 2.6.29-01117-g4bc62c
Build number: EPF21B
Any ideas would be most welcome
Found some info at another site that the bulletinboard wount show but search for EPF21B and Online Kitchen and you will find it
Build number shows it to be the UK shipping ROM

The clue is in the name.
signed-passion-FRF50-from-ERE27.1e519a24.zip
You have EPF21B, it's a non-starter for you.
I would still really appreciate any ideas.
Should I wipe or factory restore and then try updating?
Ugh, this sucks. haha
Just be patient and wait another 24 hours, the official one is coming out OTA within the next few hours, you can then download it and apply
OTA
Froyo OTA
Where would I find out when the OTA version is available for my Nexus? I've been reading about it coming out today for some handsets but don't see anything about Nexus.
Thanks for the help guys!

Cyanogenmod's GAPPS package is at the bottom of the following page:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Gapps#Google_Apps
Simply flash through ClockworkMod Recovery. You will then have Market, GMail, etc.
And another which i'd like to know is about the camera, there's loodz of black dots when camera is opened

You shouldn't put the update.zip file in OR folder. As the error message showed you should put it in your sdcard root directory and keep it as update.zip.
Good luck to you!
Thanks mate ! fixed that extremely happy bout it !

[Q] Problem with rooting motorola milestone A853

Hi All,
I am trying to root my motorola milestone A853 using OpenRecovery as instructed on a different site.
My final aim is to get CM7 on my phone.
While i am trying to take a Nandroid backup before i root the phone, the step always stucks at "System: Dumping......."
I am waiting for 15 mins at this step before i plug out the battery. The SD card has enough space (More than 5 GB) and was recently formatted so i am not sure what else to do to make this work. Please help me with a work around.
Also, i was thinking of installing Clockware recovery instead of OpenRecovery and i am not sure how to install CM7 henceforth. esponse Greatly appriciated!
Roshan
Try super one click. Or some other popular one. Just boot into clockwork and select install from sd. From the there flash rom.
Thank You!
Thanks!
I factory reset my phone first and then tried again and it worked!...I am on CM 7.2.2 now and it works wonderfully. Although i am having a small uber-silly problem now.
I know i say a "Font Size" option somewhere in settings but i cant find it now (looking for it for 30 mins... ). Someone please guide me?
Thanks again!
In CM10 the font size setting are under Interface/System.
I know you're asking about CM7, but it might help a little bit.

Clockware recovery?
CWM (Clockwork Mod recovery) is not compatible with A853. Try this one here. Read the thread, use the latest one. Btw., OpenRecovery is simply great recovery and by far the best one I've seen, no touch interface or similar trendy features can replace the fact we have access to shell (Console) directly from device without need for a computer and a cable (hardware keyboard helps ).
It could also help with stuck nandroid backups, you really shouldn't need to wipe data before backup because that kills (partially) the puprose of nandroid backups.

What? You have flashed vuln. recovery?
Read here: http://android.doshaska.net/rootable
You need to boot directly to recovery after RSD flashes recovery sbf. Must not permit the system to boot to android. Read the above thread to the letter. There are 2 listed ways how to disable stock recovery.

Why updating to 2.2 froyo..
I would suggest to go for 2.3 gingerbread which is very stable and smooth.
Or else you can even try 4.0 or 4.1 or 4.2 or 4.3, to get the real feel and see what lies in this versions.
Installation guide for flashing any ROM is available. You just need to search it.
Just follow the steps correctly and you are done.:good:

Need help flashing Pie.

I'm currently on Oreo firmware OPSS27.104-92-4 and I'm trying to flash the Pie upgrade found here: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/ali/official/RETUS/
I've tried to give Motorola Update Services storage permission and place the downloaded .zip file into the root directory of internal storage but it's not finding the update. I've also tried to ADB sideload but I get an error.
ADB error:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: footer is wrong
Update package verification took 0.0 s (result 1).
E: Signature verification failed
E: error 21
Installation aborted.
Do I need to downgrade to a previous version?

That's not an update zip. It's a full firmware package.
Fastboot.
Or use RSDlite
Or use "XML to batch" to create a batch script to flash it for you
