Hi All,
I am trying to root my motorola milestone A853 using OpenRecovery as instructed on a different site.
My final aim is to get CM7 on my phone.
While i am trying to take a Nandroid backup before i root the phone, the step always stucks at "System: Dumping......."
I am waiting for 15 mins at this step before i plug out the battery. The SD card has enough space (More than 5 GB) and was recently formatted so i am not sure what else to do to make this work. Please help me with a work around.
Also, i was thinking of installing Clockware recovery instead of OpenRecovery and i am not sure how to install CM7 henceforth. esponse Greatly appriciated!

Try super one click. Or some other popular one. Just boot into clockwork and select install from sd. From the there flash rom.
Thank You!
Thanks!
I factory reset my phone first and then tried again and it worked!...I am on CM 7.2.2 now and it works wonderfully. Although i am having a small uber-silly problem now.
I know i say a "Font Size" option somewhere in settings but i cant find it now (looking for it for 30 mins... ). Someone please guide me?
Thanks again!
In CM10 the font size setting are under Interface/System.
I know you're asking about CM7, but it might help a little bit.

Clockware recovery?
CWM (Clockwork Mod recovery) is not compatible with A853. Try this one here. Read the thread, use the latest one. Btw., OpenRecovery is simply great recovery and by far the best one I've seen, no touch interface or similar trendy features can replace the fact we have access to shell (Console) directly from device without need for a computer and a cable (hardware keyboard helps ).
It could also help with stuck nandroid backups, you really shouldn't need to wipe data before backup because that kills (partially) the puprose of nandroid backups.

What? You have flashed vuln. recovery?
Read here: http://android.doshaska.net/rootable
You need to boot directly to recovery after RSD flashes recovery sbf. Must not permit the system to boot to android. Read the above thread to the letter. There are 2 listed ways how to disable stock recovery.

The zip file, you want to install, must be in your sd-card's OpenRecovery/update folder.

Are you using a deodexed ROM? If so, that update will not work for you.
UPDATE: I've finally found the correct guide located here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Rooting_HTC_Branded_EBI1_Dreams
But now I've run into another problem..
I get all the way up to Step D, flashing the zip file '1_33_2005_spl.zip' from the SDcard then it gives me the error;
'Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:No signature (26 files)
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted'
Could it be because I'm not rooted or something?
I also tried following this guide
http://droidxhacks.com/droid-x-hacks/how-to-root-droid-x/
But I get stuck at Step 11.
It tells me 'cp: not found'
Any help would be appreciated.
UPDATE 2: So the reason it wasn't working was because Safari on this Mac was downloading the files and automatically unzipping them, so I'd re-zip them. And it didn't work when I would try to flash them. I downloaded the files using Opera instead and that kept them as a zip file. It ended up working.
I'm loving 2.2 right now, so much faster and a lot better than running 1.5.
hey guys for some reason i had to unroot so i followed the steps given in the forum ....now that i found out that there's new rom i want flash but when i click on apply sd : update.zip

Cyanogenmod's GAPPS package is at the bottom of the following page:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Gapps#Google_Apps
Simply flash through ClockworkMod Recovery. You will then have Market, GMail, etc.
And another which i'd like to know is about the camera, there's loodz of black dots when camera is opened

please help me i got no idea hoe to go about it ......when i checked the open recovery folder it did have the update.zip file .......
thanks in advance .....hurry guys
You shouldn't put the update.zip file in OR folder. As the error message showed you should put it in your sdcard root directory and keep it as update.zip.
Good luck to you!
Thanks mate ! fixed that extremely happy bout it !

Are u sure that there is a update.zip file on your sdcard?
If not,u'd better to figure it out in the bandboard'Motorola Milestone Android Development'.
This is a duplication and is already solved.
To Abu3792: Please edit this post and mark it as solved, thanks.
And what was the solution ?
I suppose you forgave to flash the vulnerable recovery.
As the title says, after the installation of cm12 nightly (15/01/2015) from the cyanogenmod website i've got some issues with mobile data on my Xperia T. I searched everywhere to find about how to fix this problem, but i only found people with the same problem who don't know how to solve it. Can someone help me with it? If yes i would be very greateful.
Just install my homebuilt version and you'll have no problems with mobile data

It's not that easy to fix mobile data. You gotta compile another rom with different sources (so practically do the same thing that I do. )
The install error you mentioned is caused by Cyanogen revocery, which forces a certain signature for its updates.
To work around this, simply flash the included boot.img of my homebuilt CM12 via fastboot (there are guides on how to do so), reboot to TWRP recovery and flash the whole rom. Done. :good:
Just remember to not update via nightlies or else you'll end up with broken data connection again.
you can try to replace the ril files in
/system/bin/ and /system/lib
change the permissions like the previous ones and reboot.
