[Q] Bluetooth file transfer - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

With official AT&T upgrade (2.2), I can connect to the phone from my Macbook Pro via Bluetooth, and browse.
I see all the directories, but no files at all.
Also, the "Send" button is grayed out, so I cant send files to my phone.
Is Bluetooth file transfer broken on this release?
Or am I just doing something wrong?

Get bluetooth file transfer app in market.

I haven't experienced any issues with bluetooth file transfer since the update. Running stock 2.2 Captivate, and a Windows 7 64 bit OS.

I see the same thing on my Mac, has been the same across multiple Captivate ROMs. I presume it's a Mac / Galaxy compatibility issue.

bluetooth obex

What can I do with bluetooth obex?
Anyone else not able to search xda using the stock g1 browser?
with bluetooth obex you can send and receive files via bluetooth as long as both devices are rooted.
both devices have to be rooted? Perhaps I am reading into that too much but you can't mean we can only share with other android phones right?
I saw it says bluetooth FTP... which made me wonder if I was missing something, like if I could do stuff with my computer remotely. What is the significance of FTP on this apps name *when you open it*.
Sorry, would be nice if you could search on here using the G1s browser.
Bluetooth File Transfer Protocol meaning its a program used to transfer files over the Bluetooth Frequency.
so it is android to android only then?

Nope, I connected to my iMac. It can share with any other device that has the bluetooth file sharing enabled/available.

connected to my friends nokia 6265i ... its a regular phone not a smartphone .. was able to view his files and everything ... loving the new bluetooth app
ok so then how do you enable the file sharing etc on android ? I was trying to test with a friend of mine who has an android, and was unable to find the setting any ideas? thanks!
Yeah, my buddy has an iPhuckinsuck, we let our phones become available, we scanned, we paired, but then we could not connect, even after I entered the correct PIN for his phone.
Perhaps I just don't know how to connect, but I have yet to connect with a phone correctly. Same scenario with my wife's BB. Could not connect.

[Q] Bluetooth from Mac: Only see directories!

Hi, All,
When I'm browsing my Captivate from my MacBook, I only see directories, no individual files. Any idea why? I'm able to browse my Nokia E71 and see files with no problems.
Thanks,
Bill
Totally thread necromancy here but I have the exact same problem. I can drag new files into the bluetooth file exchange window and they do show up on the phone's storage but the operation completes with no feedback. I cannot get the phone itself to send a file via bluetooth to the Macbook, however. I've tried watching the logs both in ADB and watching the system.log on the Macbook. Nothing really useful shows up.
I'm running stock Froyo on the phone and 10.7 on my new MacBook Air.
Same as the above. Anyone have a solution?

[Q] Bluetooth file transfer question

Is it possible to push files from my Bionic to my laptop using Bluetooth, if it is I can not do this. This seems like a very basic operation.
I can push music from my phone to my laptop and it plays on my laptop fine.
I have downloded and used the app called "Bluetooth File Transfer" and it seems to work to some degree but not when I want to push, say, a photo from phone to laptop.
I have paird Bionic with laptop and laptop to phone, that works, I have sent file from laptop to Bionic no problems there. I have browsed phone with laptop using BT.
When I try to send file from Bionic to laptop I always get the same error message "Transfer Failed".
When I look into the Device Manager I find there is a number of drivers the laptop seems to want to download but never finds the right one.
When the Bluetooth File Transfer app runs it tells me I need the OBEXFTP and or Object Push Profile, but I can not seem to find the correct one for my Bionic.
Anyone know what is going on here?
P.S. Seems to me (like I said before) a very basic thing to want to do, I could do it with my old Imagio on the WM OS, why can I not do this on the BT 3.0?

I use blue tooth file transfer myself without problem. Maybe the problem is your laptop?

[Q] Nexus 6 cannot send files to Macbook Pro via Bluetooth......

Hello everyone,
I'm asking for some help with my Nexus 6 (64GB Unlocked White, Verizon, running stock 5.1 LMY47E rooted)
I cannot for the life of me get my Nexus to transfer files ( .jpg pictures, .pdf, etc) to my Macbook Pro (late 2011 17") via bluetooth
I've included some screenshots of the errors I'm getting.
I have tried numerous times to get it to work. I've done various Google searches regarding this problem, which hasn't helped at all.
Now here's the weird thing.......
I bought my Nexus 6 last month (April, 2015) and I got bluetooth file transfer to work with my Macbook Pro initially. However, my MBP had its logic board fail (mid April) and I had to send it to Apple to get it replaced. Long story short, after throwing in a brand new Samsung 500GB SSD and doing a fresh install of Mavericks 10.9.5, I cannot get my Nexus to send files to my Macbook Pro. I've tried files other than the various .jpg pictures I want to send, such as .pdf, but they fail as well in the Outgoing Transfers folder in bluetooth.
I CAN get my Macbook to send files TO my Nexus and it accepts them, it's just the sending files from my Nexus to my Macbook that always fails. I use this function ALL the time to transfer photos to my Macbook from my Nexus, I hate having to get a USB cord and manually do it. I grew accustomed to this with my old Galaxy Nexus.
I should mention I was running Mountain Lion 10.8.5 before I had to send my Macbook in for repair. Yet I'm fairly confident this isn't the problem, given I can send files from my Macbook to the Nexus, but not vice versa.
I tried deleting the plist file for bluetooth on my Macbook, then shutting down the laptop, then restarting. This did not fix it.
I've tried clearing the bluetooth cache in apps on my Nexus, then rebooting...... this did not work.
I'm at my wits end here with options.
I do not understand why I can't get files to go through to my Macbook, yet I can get files to go from my Macbook to my Nexus 6.
I get a connection error when I try and send a file from my Nexus to my Macbook, screenshot below.
Any help with this problem would be appreciated.
I don't know what to do..
Thank you-
***UPDATE***
Just found out what was wrong.
There is a setting in System Preferences called "Sharing"
You MUST enable Bluetooth Sharing in order for the Nexus (or any smartphone for that matter) to be able to send files to a Mac via Bluetooth.
I've included this link to help those in the future who have this problem:

Attached is a screenshot of the item that MUST be checked:
Why not use USB?

Do you mean enabling the Bluetooth toggle or a different setting? Did not find sharing yet.

I do for big files, such as videos I've taken, but for pictures, bluetooth file transfer is so much easier and quicker.

You have to first pair the Nexus to the Macbook, then go into
System Preferences-Sharing-then check "Bluetooth Sharing"
*Once you do this, you can transfer files from your Nexus to your Macbook
Cool, thanks. Ima try this when I get home. I could never ever get it to work. I have MBP 2014 and never work from or to it. Let's see if it works tonight.
Sent from my Nexus 6
Doesn't seem to work for me. I tried this and I still get the error message but somehow it was connected because a file I sent transfered. But it doesn't say its paired and connected but it went through. I don't use Bluetooth transfer but I would like to have all features working properly on my laptop and or phone. Oh well ?

Try unpairing, then delete the nexus from your MacBook, and vice versa, then restart your computer and phone, then try repairing

I can receive files from my PC via Bluetooth but cannot send to my PC

I have paired my note9 and my Windows 10 machine via Bluetooth. I can send a file to my phone from my pc without issue but I have been unable to send a file from my phone to my pc.
Edit: If I right-click the Bluetooth icon on my desktop and select "Receive a file" it works fine. I just can't get the PC to prompt me to accept a file being sent to it which is weird.
Nevermind - I fixed it.
I had stupidly relied on Window Updates finding the correct driver but in actuality the manufacturer drivers are the ones that worked ??
so how did you fix it ?i can send pics to my note 9 but when i try to send to my pc it fails. been looking for awhile and you are the only i have seen that had the same problem
