I notice while being overclocked, when setCPU is to ondemand, there is a slight delay. For example, when you go to your apps and just push the list up or down, theres a slight pause before, but if you set setCPU to conservative, it is very smooth. any thoughts?

That is odd, OnDemand normally gives better performance. what Rom are you using, and which OverClock kernel did you use?
SetCPU coasts $1.99? It seems like the defacto standard but I can't imagine paying for something like this. Am I missing something? Is there a free version or a different app people are actually using?

It's $1.99 for goodness sake, you drop more on a cup of coffee. Support your devs dude.
It's actually free for XDA peeps, but I bought it from the market anyway.

agreed. the dev has posted it on the XDA forums for free, but its only $1.99 and probably one of the three most useful and most used apps for custom ROM users.
I brew my own coffee, got mouths to feed and bills to pay. w00t for free SetCPU though!

Devs have bills to pay, too. But there's nothing wrong with using the free version supplied by the dev.

I just thought I would post a review of my recently favorite app: GENSOID.
Gensoid is an Sega Genesis console emulator for Android.
I use the free version, but with the paid version you can do things like save the game state, etc. (the free version saves wherever the ROM game can save, but the paid version lets you save anywhere/anytime, which can be useful for some, but I prefer the original gameplay)
Features:
on-screen, fully-customizable controller
fast-forward option (for those slow-scrolling games)
auto-rotate capable
decent battery utilization (played 4 hours straight once on a plane, still had some battery left)
Full Sound/Mute options
Fast responding emulator
I must say I really miss playing on the Genesis, and when I saw this in the market I had to get it. So far I have played:
Phantasy Star
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III
Phantasy Star IV
Sonic the Hedgehog
Master of Monsters
Herzog Zwei
ToeJam and Earl
My list to try next are:
Shadowrun
Beyond Oasis
Shining Force
Shining Force 2
Land Stalker
I have not experienced any problems with it, other than the fact that the control takes a little getting used to.
ROMs are readily available on the net. Even though all Genesis games are out of production downloading them without owning the original cart may be of questionable legality, so I won't recommend any particular method of acquiring ROMs.
Overall I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Try FPse... its a playstation emulator... currently playing chrono cross and its working flawlessly. I really like the controls too.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I will have to give that a try.
Thanks.
It runs great...Tekken 3 at 60fps on my phone...quite a sight!
Where do you get the games at?
Wrong question mate...that goes into piracy if you do not own the games to rip them so we do not talk about that stuff here.

You can see my disclaimer at the bottom:
"ROMs are readily available on the net. Even though all Genesis games are out of production downloading them without owning the original cart may be of questionable legality, so I won't recommend any particular method of acquiring ROMs"
The last thing we need is this site shut down over legal issues... no need to point to or recommend a source of ROMs, you can find them on your own (and it is pretty easy).
lol ok, talking about emulators should be piracy also, because it's the same thing. even if you own the game for a different system and make it work on a emulator is against the EULA anyways.

Not really...depends on the case and game plus that goes into a whole new territory.
Much different from just downloading a game I never paid for.

An emulator is a program. It is not written with its main purpose to be piracy. However the writer cannot be held responsible for what users do with the app.

I would think Android and AT&T would disagree, given the fact that they both give it the OK by letting it be in the market...
Does it really? We'll find out, as my G2 whooped the GTabs ass thoroughly in SmartBench 2010.
I just saw that someone just benched their viewsonic gtablet.. beating out the stock motorola xoom by quite a bit.
My 1996MHz G2 got 2093/1730 - but it was really variable.. 1.8GHz losing to 1.5GHz.. and so on. I suspect the usual pain in the ass shenannigans (also my biggest annoyance with Android) - apps do whatever the **** they please. Have an important process? No.. vvm or whatever needs to gobble some resources. Everything behaves as if the command 'ps' didn't exist. Does this environment even respect ionice and renice? It should.. but it probably doesn't..
Ok, I don't want to get off topic ranting about (which I would if I mentioned the ****ed up key mappings for usb keyboards - doh)..
Smartbench 2010 was a single-threaded app after all, so that second core in the tablet would not have been very useful.
Smartbench 2011 uses 4 symetrical cores for CPU tests, hence it will take advantage of up to 4 cores if they exist.
And you are right, with the multi-core support, the results are a bit less consistent simply because a lot is going on within your phone all the time. One of the reason I decided to collect massive number of results is to take average values. As you can see, more test results we have, more accurate the number becomes. I suspect this tablet number will become more accurate as more people run tests on it.
Oh, and currently, 2011 only returns the most popular 150 entries. This does mean at some point down the road (probably in few days), some device/configuration with only 1 run will not show. I need to figure out a better way to show all this data...
Are you the developer? If so, pretty damn cool!! Thanks for making this app.. I was wondering about whether or not multi-core was just only dual core.. but its good to know that its quad core.. I suppose this is best seen in the 4x mandrelbot..i kinda missed that one. Perhaps a good test would be tar cjf -- isn't that a pretty stable (results wise) benchmark.. The only problem is that you'd have to bundle the file to compress.. or perhaps download it afterwards.. I think that would be over-reaching the perms of the app tho.. My gtab is sometimes getting Android null as my version.. but its on par with the other gtabs.. which makes me a little angry.. heh.

Yes, I am the developer of smartbench.
Ive been experimenting on various algorithms for a while now, but many of them just aren't very consistent, especially when ran using 4 parallel threads. Gets worse when file IO is invoiced. And as you mentioned already, I'll have to include a file which will significantly increase the apk size which could be an issue for some people. I'll have to experiment further, thanks for the suggestion though.
Nice. Ran it on my Droid and my Gtablet...
Droid (800mhz) scored 655
Gtablet scored a 3081 (beating the Xoom at 2914)
For grins I ran it in the SDK emulator running a Honeycomb image...scored an awesome 65 ! LOL
It's not available from the Market to download to the GTablet. The web version of Market claims the app is incompatible with my GTablet. I can never figure out why things aren't compatible.
Perhaps it's because the permissions is checking phone state and GPS?
The SmartBench Donate is compatible though - lol.

Do you get any screen artifacts when you run Smartbench 2011 on your GTablet? (Is it based on Honeycomb?) I've received a report that this is the case with Motorola Xoom, although tests do run ok.
Thanks.

Yeah, I need to check for the phone state to prevent any cheat while the program is running. The GPS thing was the requirement for the ads - I actually don't use it.
And yes, the Donate is just a key, its a very simple app so I would be very surprised if it ever breaks on any devices.
It's not available in the market for the gtab. Can someone tell me where to get it?
Thanks.
I've got the donate app, I just can't get the other part unless I use my wife's phone. As I mentioned, Google market says it's incompatble with my GTablet for some reason.
Nah...vegan Rom based on froyo. Had to download it on my phone and transfer it to my tablet as it wouldn't show in the market on the gtablet.

Is it possible to truncate all post cm7_rc1 nightlies and group them together (per device)? Once the cm7 nightlies start back up you'll have a lot separate groups for each rom version/build.
Do you think the viewsonic scores lower in games because of its 512mb ram? Almost got beat by the G2 in that category.

Yes, I need to figure out a way to gracefully present all that data that is being amassed. I am currently looking for ways to group them together in some general ways so that it would work for most cases. I'll need to study the format of these ROM names a bit more before I can determine what I can do next...

I doubt that is the case. These graphics test aren't THAT memory hungry.
Having said that, the Games score isn't that low - still lower than other Tegra 2 based tablets but that G2 you are comparing with is probably heavily overclocked. I have a regular G2, and Smartbench 2011 was baselined on G2 - both Index scores are 1000.

Always good to have as a reminder, and maybe reviews. I downloaded it on my N1 today, haven't had time to try on my Xoom. But free is good, so the worst that can happen is I don't like it and have to blow it away. My only complaint, after rooting tonight and having to reinstall the Amazon apps is that it only lets you download and install one at a time, quite the PITA since I had over a weeks worth of stuff to catch up on. 12 downloads, one at a time.

It's just basically making stuff and downloading other peoples levels they made that you have to do and like the other answer you got it is rather addictive!
Well, you're also missing stuff like crafting and survival. Depends on what difficulty you choose. Try for yourself.
I was wondering the same thing, because a bunch of guys I know love it. I tried it myself and I was bored within about 10 minutes. It's either you build something which isn't very impressive, or you sacrifice endless hours to make something awesome. But at the end of the day you don't really get anything for doing it... So I see no point either

Right now it's the pseudo equivalent of creative mode only. In creative mode, there are no monsters, infinite resources, and your character can't die.
Survival mode is really what brings out the flavor in minecraft, if for no better reason than you have to "earn" what you build by harvesting everything and *not* dying.
Initially the dev team (Mojang) wanted the pocket edition to be like creative mode only. Now apparantly they're giving it some survival mode teeth, as that's what the community has been clamoring for.
Here's to hoping there wont be too many corners cut. If so, I may have to hunker down and actually buy this one.
There is a free demo version for anyone who's curious. The demo version doesn't let you save your worlds, so whatever you build is gone when you close thr game.

I ordered a new Nexus 4 (woot!) and was looking around at some of the kernels with features like color control, overclocking, etc. I noticed that you need to have a kernel control app for the color tuning. So I looked up the control app and it was $4.99!
I have never seen a paid kernel control app before.
I looked around and the cheapest one was $3.69 for the trinity kernel app.
I personally feel this limits the user's choice of kernels by making them pay for the features that should be free. With the paid apps, I will not be able to test out kernels to see if I like them and want to use them without paying ~$5.00 for each one.
Thanks for listening to my opinion.

Why should the features of the control app be free? If a developer chooses to charge a little for all the hard work they put into something what's wrong with that? The kernel itself is still free to use. Look at it as supporting a developer.

The kernels are free to use and the apps are just for tweaking some of the settings. And buying the apps is nice way to support the developers, they also have to pay bills too... like the servers to store the kernel.

cyanogenmod offers tweaks like color, overclocking, governors, schedulers etc.. as a part of their rom. in fact, a while ago there was a little "debate" between some kernel devs (including franco , ezekiel and others..) and cm devs about the support of some features in cm builds.
anyways, there's also a universal app called trickstermod , there's a free and a paid version.
While i do believe that kernel apps are a great way to support developers, they should only add convenience, not basic functionality.
For example, i should be able to change all necessary kernel settings, like fine tuning a scheduler or changing color profiles through config files.
The kernel app should just give you the convenience to do it with a nice GUI.
That said, if I'm not completely mistaken, you can do exactly that on all kernels.
Though, I've never checked for any color profile related config files on Franco's kernel. Are there any for that specific task?
Also, take a look at apps like Trickster Mod.
They basically offer most of the stuff you'd find in a kernel specific app.
