I have rooted Galaxy S and my battery last like 15 hours of moderate use :-/ I want to update on latest Eclair since I dont want to mess with reg hack until Froyo is available for my network. Can someone tell me is there any newer firmware than I9000XXJM1 and ECLAIR.XFJM6, thats what I have under About. If yes, I want to update it and I hope that I will get better battery life because this is disaster since I use Juice Defender and my data plan and WiFi are off when the screen is of.
Also, I cannot check is there newer firmware trough KIES, it tells me to make backup, bla-bla. I dont want to flash it, firstly I want to see if there is something newer. Also, for VooDoo fix, I only need to make that "disable lagfix" folder and reboot my phone and can freely update it with no fear ?
Tnx a lot !

I think you forgot to tell us how you want to help us with android development. Since you posted in android development, I assume that's what you want to do...
If not, this thread should be posted in Questions & Answers.
The latest eclair firmwares are XWJM9 and DOJJ1, both of which are internal releases that you need to flash with Odin.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802909
JM9 is the newest 2.1-firmware
But I see that firmware doesnt have a Croatian UI, only support for the Croatian language in Swype
So this is the latest for end users that can be flashed using KIES ?
P.S. I hope that admins will move it to Q&A section.

To those who tried this, any feedback please?
I am getting impatient waiting for the official update to arrive here in Kuwait. Since I can not post this in the development section, I am posting it here.
My tab is not yet rooted so that will be the first thing to do if I will go through this process.
Thanks.
I also live in Kuwait and tried to update it through Kies but there were no updates available. Has anyone else received the update through Kies in Kuwait or the middle east?

If you're ready to move from Stock to ROM and you're looking for a ROM with Arabic full support then I advise you to go for the OVERCOME with its last release ICARUS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074759
For rooting, you'll find on the install guide the link to the rooting thread. After rooting, you should select the full wipe option.
If you're not sure about any step post your question and you'll get the adequate support.
I'm not at the point where I want to run custom roms. Last I checked, you lose 3g capabilities - IE you have 3g data but 2g phone or no phone at all. Or, you have 3g phone but no data capability. Unless that's changed, I supposed I'll wait a lil longer for the update from Kies

I bought my SGT1000/3G last March and since I flashed the custom ROM on the beginning of June, I felt like I got a newnew Tab. On top of this we're enjoying a new update every 2 to 3 weeks. Any update from SAMSUNG take several months to come. Also my Tab is working fine and enjoying features that are not available on the stock ROM.
If I have any issue I'll never defend such choice.

Hi! Thanks for the reply and the suggestion is actually appreciated. I have been reading that thread for a few days now (not continuously, though) but I believe I am not yet ready for that at this time.
Eventually, I will update / upgrade into that ROM / kernel.
So I got my phone last December and within a month, had it rooted - mainly to get rid of bloatware. I was using Cognition ROM at first, but then a guy at an ATT authorized retailer showed me a different rom that unlocked HSPA. The ROM that he gave me, which I later installed using ROM manager has the filename: KILLER23D+XXJPUDoc_V4.0_wipe. Has there been an update to this ROM? I love everything about it and am also wondering if there are any ROMs that are any better than this? I'm still pretty new at using the xda website and forums...
I like to tinker around, but am still afraid of bricking my phone. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys for all the hard work you all do.
p.s. I noticed my phone now thinks it is the Galaxy S GT-I9000... so would I download new ROMs for that phone or the Captivate?
Killer23d's out off date. it hasn't been updated since 11th December 2010. Their are many great 2.2 and 2.3 roms in the development section. Take a look around , you should be able to find one that is to your pleasing. Read the authors instructions and be sure you understand them before you flash anything
Be sure to read the Stickies they tell you about installing rom and other good stuff that you should know. And search around if you have any questions before you post, cause it might have been already answered.
And if you have a captivate you download captivate roms
good luck
I guess I really want to know which ROM is most like official 2.2 or 2.3? I definitely want to make sure I can still install unknown apps, and have the stock alarm clock on the phone because I use the alarm all the time and I don't want to have to download another one from the market. Do you have any preferences on ROMs that would do all this?
I also am a little confused on the ODIN stuff. Since I'm already rooted and using ROM Manager to flash ROMs, do I always need to flash ODIN before installing a new ROM? I read on here somewhere that the author metioned something about that, but how it was worded was a little confusing
I don't refer roms to people it is all personal choice. All roms can install off market apps
for roms in general* http:////forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
*2.3 roms need gb bootloaders
sorry about these noob questions...but let start:
1. i got an att&t 8.9 3.2 honeycomb os. what is the latest os (official or unofficial) out there now that works smoothly with my device meaning everything works, front and back camera, sound etc. links would be great.
2. i'm getting ipc communication popup error every once in awhile. what does this error mean? how do i get rid of this error. i assume if i update to latest os, the error will be gone? btw, i dont have a sim card inserted in my device, so i don't really know if its matter?
3. my device sometime auto dim. how do i turn off auto dim if i want it to stop?
4. how do i get kies? do i install it on both my device and pc? if on my pc, where is the install file?
thx in advance.

Not familiar with your device but I'll give it a try anyway.
3: Press the time in lower right corner and then set a fixed brightness.
4: Kies for windows is avalable on Samsung webpage. Search for your device on support and then select software.
Kies for wifi is awailable on google play and is only needed if you want to syncronize over the air.
Did a search for ROM's but just came up with a custom here on xda. Hopefully someone else will help you.

i did a search on android market for kies and all it came up was kies air from samsung. it is basically for sharing files between your tab 8.9 device with any devices on your wifi network. is that it? if yes, i thought kies allow you to update your os to the latest os if there are any from samsung via wifi. if no, where is the actual kies on android market? thx in advance.

Kies air (app) is for syncronizing your tab (files/contacts/music...) by wifi via Kies installed in your computer. It's not a wifi sharing tool.
Kies for PC is downloaded from Samsung webpage to your computer, not on to yor tab via market
If you install Kies in your computer and then plugin your tab (via cable) to it you can update the tab's system aswell as syncronize files (faster than wifi)
I dont think it's possible to update system via Kies air.

I suspect your tab isn't rooted. Then you should download Kies.
Go to the Samsung webpage, select support and then manuals and downloads.
Choose your device (you can choose the 7310, it makes no differens when downloading Kies)
When Kies is installed just plug in your tab and choose "update firmware"
Look for my post about flashing the us version o your P7310. If cant find out i'll help u.
Cheers.

And here's the link to the ODIN ICS http://www.hotfile.com/dl/169458139/5cca4ab/P7310UELPB_P7310XARLPB_XAR.zip.html
A step by step guide for odin you'll find in the 7310 development department. Good luck
So for a beginner, which one is easier for me to do? Go to samsung website download kies and update my firmware to ics or do odin?
Also I read on some threads after some ppl upgrading their os, they had charging problem. What kind of problems are these and what are the steps to take to get rid of these problems? What do you need to do before you upgrade your os?
Thx in advance.

The charging problem relates to people who updated their P73x0 with an image ported from the Tab 10.1.
I am not sure which Tab you have. Is it an 8.9 3G or an 8.9 LTE?
If it's an 8.9 3G model, and you don't mind not having support for a SIM card, then the modded / rooted image from the 7310 will work for you. If you ahve the LTE version then this image is definitely not suited for your device. So be careful!
I have a 3G model myself, currently without sim card. I decided not to wait anymore and flashed the modified 7310 ICS image onto it. I am completely happy. Everything works, except the sim card (because the image is for the wifi-only tab) and it is a lot smoother and faster than the honeycomb image.

You'll need to root your device and flash CWM. All is explained in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406137

This is based on the assumption that your'e not rooted and using a stock ROM.
The easiest way is to update via Kies:
No need for root
Coming from stock ROM most apps will continue to work
You wont void warranty
No special effort required from you
The battery issues some have had is best avoided by upgrading with a full battery (no garanties though)
I did my upgrade via CWM. I did a full wipe and then formatted system, cache and data folders before updating (all apps and settings are lost)
I haven't had any problem, actually my tab has better stamina now.

not sure but as far as I understood from reading elsewhere, the AT&T tab is an LTE version, with wholly different hardware. if so, stay away from Odin flashing p7300/7310 ROMs !
Yes in the back of my 8.9. It does say 4g lte. So I guess I got the lte version. If I got the lte version, I guess none official ics update yet? If not, are there any unofficial version of it anywhere? If yes, is the unofficial bug free and can someone provide a direct link plz? Tia.

That's right. Besides, the Rom for the LTE are all Honeycomb so there's nothing to gain.
Kies works just like ota updates. Samsung is responsible for them.
Odin you are the one responsible and u must do all the work.
I did it by odin.

A bit more zippy than the stock ROM due to the reasons listed on that thread. Otherwise, it's Samsung's honeycomb image.
Yes, android native tethering, both WiFi and USB, is enabled.
If you still think it's slow, get a new launcher, twlauncher (touchwiz) is kind of a beast...
You can overclock it to 1.7ghz or so and it'll still be reliable, at least that's my experience.
The ATT ICS ROM is in test with the carrier. It'll probably be out in a month or two. Samsung should also release the ICS kernel source around then, after which you'll likely see some custom ICS images -- Nobody wants to bother making custom HC images OR trying to get an ICS kernel working on this device before Samsung releases a proper one -- Several have tried and found it quite a task.

and what is touchwiz (twlauncher)? where can i get it? is it on the android market also?
thx for everyone help.
Hello, this is my first time posting on this forum, so hi to everyone.
My question is pretty simple: I have bought a Samsung GT-i9305. I didn't know that it is a branded version (T-Mobile, if anyone knows how to check exactly what version that is, tell me and I'll try to provide necessary information) though. Now there comes my question. Is it possible to remove all of the android rom that is installed on this device and replace it with a fresh, non-branded version? Even stock samsung 4.4 android would be sufficient for my needs. I just need some guidance because I'm afraid I'll brick my phone if i do something wrong and I wouldn't want that. The branded soft annoys me very much, everytime I do an update of the system it installs some useless aplications (they have German names, so my guess would be that this branding is T-Mobile german edition, bought it in Poland though). What's more, I also tried to root the device a few months ago, but to no effect, and now it says that my device has been modified when I try to update it.
I hope this is the right board to ask the question.
I can't give screenshots of the device information because of spam protection for new users. Maybe I can give them to you via PM, if anyone would be interested in helping me.
Thanks in advance to everyone trying to help me.
EDIT: I also tried to install a cyanogen mod on this device and I got the message that this device isn't supported by cyanogen mod.
First make sure of the model of the phone. You should see it in "settings -> about device -> model number"
If you have the i9305, then you could check out this thread by @MaHo_66. It has a nice collection of de-bloated stock 4.4.4 roms.
First you will have to root your phone and install a custom recovery. HERE is a good guide to start, again from @MaHo_66
Make sure you hit his thanks button if you find them helpful.

I wouldn't worry too much about matching build versions, just try a build for your country/region and you shouldn't have any dramas. If you can find a build that uses your provider, you can benefit from the most optimized baseband, but any should work well for your country
