I got a text message from AT&T yesterday saying they were "providing a critical software update that will enhance the performance of your HTC Vivid device."
So far, I have not been able to access their server to download the update. When I tap on Check for Updates in Settings, the checking message appears for a few seconds and then disappears.
Has anyone else gotten this message, or knows what this update is for?
Thanks
Edit: HTC does not have a new software update posted for the Vivid, just the 3-22 version. I wonder if I got the message because I used the direct method to get the update (*#*#682#*#*) rather than through the Check for Updates in Settings, and AT&T thinks I still have not updated.
I ran the manual update and it said there was no update available.

That's consistent with the fact that every time I try to check for updates nothing happens. I wonder why I got the message from AT&T if they have no update for us. As I said above, it may be due to the fact that I got the original update manually rather than through the Check for Updates feature in Settings.
Thanks for checking.
I've heard about that some kind I glitch.

Pulling down a 485MB update right now. Haven't found anything as to whether it is truly Lollipop or not... SLOOOOOW download.
reboot... and it's only 4.4.4. Why on God's green Earth would they deploy 4.4.4 when 5.0 is supposed to be ready to roll?
5 will probably be available soon. Just like what Verizon is doing
Keep an eye on this page for GSG5 AT&T updates.

So.. basically unknown fixes, plus more AT&T bloatware to disable?
I guess that depends on how important you feel VoLTE and 4.4.4 updates are.
Lolipop will be coming soon enough.

Yea... I guess they started the work for this update long time ago and decided to just finish it and release it. The AT&T's version of Lollipop is most likely still a several weeks/months away.
VoLTE + fixes in 4.4.4
VoLTE and whatever fixes that came with the 4.4.4 update are more than likely not part of the lollipop 5.0 or 5.0.1 updates.. VoLTE I'm sure is the major reason for the 4.4.4 update being pushed before lollipop.. VoLTE is obviously going to be a major selling point in the future for all carriers.. leaving it out and just jumping to lollipop would be stupid for AT&T.. once all areas receiving the 4.4.4 update have been rolled out they should start rolling out one of the versions of lollipop.. probably before the end of February so as not to be to far behind Verizon
Dont have the update
I have the s5 for at&t and I just checked and it said my software was up to date. any idea why I didnt get it?
AT&T is rolling out the update in "stages", meaning you might receive it later than the other customers. I have 2 Galaxy S5's in family, both are on the same plan and are AT&T-branded, however only one of them have received update. Don't worry and give it some time - unless you live in a region where "HD Voice" is already available this update is not "crucial".

I have an AT&T unlocked model of Galaxy S5. Will I still get the OTA or KIES if I am abroad? Its completely stock, non-rooted. I've changed nothing. My current version is 4.4.2.

i was wondering exactly the same thing...
If you are not using an AT&T SIM you will not get an update. I don't think you could get the update even if you were using the AT&T SIM and were on a European or Asian network. I haven't seen an update on KIES for an AT&T phone since 4.1.2 on the GS3.

Lookout might be the source of your drain its higher than Facebook in usage that's happened to me before the way to solve it was to uninstall lookout and reinstall it

I have Lookout as the top consumer right now at 29%. That's not good. I did that update a week ago, and it was very miserly then. I wonder if a recent LookOut update is the culprit.

Lookout is very buggy. Over the course of owning my s5 I've already uninstalled and installed lookout 4 times (which solves the problem for a good while). FInally I decided to turn off the malware scanning and just keep location / lost phone part as that's all I really care about (as a backup to android device managers lost phone feature). I figure the android has built in limited virus protection already and I don't install except from the play store and am not rooted. I haven't had any problems with 4.4.4 but I did a clean wipe and use lookout in a limited fashion.
FYI, I am a new Android user.
Two weeks ago I got the Nexus 6 from T-Mobile. When I first got the phone there were no updates available for the phone. And I know at that time only version 5.0.1 was out, and it won't update that. And since then I haven't received an update for the phone. When version 5.1 was release I was excited to update. The phone tells me that my phone is up to date every time I check it throughout the day. My phone is still running version 5.0.
I did see that the update(5.1) was available when I erased my phone. I had no accounts signed in to the phone and I prevented anything to update except 5.1, but it went away and never downloaded.
I have forced stopped "Google Services Framework" multiple times and deleted the information, restarted the phone, and still no update.
I have called T-Mobile tech support to get help from them and they sent me a new phone, and still no luck.
What can I do to get the update? Is it possible that the SIM card I am using is from my iPhone 6 is preventing this?
I see that everyone is downloading updates and side loading them, but all the guides are pretty vague. I am on a Macbook so I don't understand the commands, but I do know how to use the terminal. I would like to stay away from side loading because my lack of experience.
Just be patient
The update comes out in waves, some get it later then others. You'll get it eventually
First, look here:
http://www.droid-life.com/2013/11/2...or-updates-on-nexus-devices-isnt-helping-you/
Also, try pulling out your Sim card and rebooting the phone. Let it sit without Sim and see if update returns.
I have an AT&T Galaxy S6 Edge that I have been using on Cricket. I have never received the update that AT&T released earlier this month. There seems to be some confusion as to if you get those software updates on Cricket or not as I have gone through forum posts where some people have stated they have received updates for some devices and others say they have never received updates while using Cricket for AT&T devices. I did have them unlock my device so I could also use it on T-Mobile. Has anyone else had issues getting the update? Could it be related to my device being on Cricket or being unlocked? I have also tried putting an AT&T Go Phone sim (with active service in) and my device contacts the server and still doesn't see the update. I am not sure what else to try.
---
Never mind. With the Go Phone sim in, advancing the date a day, it allowed me to check again and then it found the update. Still think it is ridiculous that they won't let their own phones receive updates on Cricket.
I'm using an ATT sim, and have not received an update. I've advanced all the way through June to check for updates without success... as well as reinstalling via ODIN multiple times.

Update file will be live in like 30 minuetes . Just Wait
I had a phone that would not take an OTA not matter what I did, one of many defects i found with the phones i tested. You might have one of those in that back. The rest of the phones I have tested took OTA on first try.

same thing happened to me i just used the odin file. done
Ok so I just acquired an S6 (AT&T, OEM/not rooted) and I know that 7.0 is rolling out for it and after some investigating it seems that the only way I'll be able to update it to 7.0 from 6.0.1 is if my baseband is at a certain version, which it is not. There are 3 listed updates for this phone on the At&T site that I don't seem to have (SPL Nov 1, SPL Dec 1 & SPL Jan 1) and I'm wondering how I can apply these updates and at least have my phone up to date. I've tried checking OTA updates and also installing SmartSwitch and it says that my phone is currently updated and doesn't offer any patches. Any help is appreciated!
Here's a screenshot of where I'm at now-

No OTA updates if it's not on the AT&T network, sadly. I have an AT&T S6 on Cricket and I get my updates by going to a Best Buy with a Samsung Experience Center inside. They can update it for you. If that's an option based on where you live you can wait a couple weeks, they didn't have the Nougat update yet when I checked yesterday. Otherwise, since it's a new phone and presumably you don't have any data on it to lose, you can update manually. See this thread to start:

Thanks for the tips. I'm on cricket actually so going into a Best buy might be the best option when they get it. Do you have to pay them to do it? Will i get my phone back right away or do I need to leave it with them for a while ? Side question for you - do you use the hotspot on the s6? That's something else I'm trying to get working/enabled.
It's free. I've done it three times and it's been a breeze. You don't leave your phone, you just wait around for the updates to install. Depending on how many updates you are behind it can take a while, but there are plenty of ways to kill time at Best Buy. You can check online which ones have the Samsung Experience Center inside.
As for hotspot, I never use it.
