[Q] Need Some SSD Help - Off-topic

So I have a SSD-Regular HDD setup for my home PC. My primary (local disk) is a 30GB SSD drive. I install all programs on my regular HDD, and I left the Windows 7 install on the 30gb SSD. Problem is, even though I don't save ANYTHING to the SSD it slowly fills up... and today it hit 0 bytes free. After some disk cleanup I was able to free up a gig deleting temp files etc... but it's still a bummer.
My question to anyone with a similar setup or some SSD know-how! What are the best steps to prevent these secret ninja files from piling up on my SSD? I'm thinking about reformatting and installing W7 on the SSD again, since everything is just saved on the other drive..
Plz/thankyou

Your SSD is severely hampered by being so full. Not only will it run slow but you are reducing it's life span as there is no free space for wear-levelling to take place.
A fresh install would be the way to go at this point, remembering that you really want to Secure Erase the drive before re-installing. The BETTER option is to buy an SSD that isn't smaller than a wart on a gnats ****. I would say 60GB is the minimum that you need for your primary drive. 120GB if you can afford it.

^What he said. Windows 7 AFAIK collects all of the DLLs in a central folder which is one of the reasons for the install to just get bigger and bigger. I'm on 36 GB of a slightly heavier used 50 GB partition than yours, but still almost no installs to the C: partition and stuff like that.
I am on a normal HD though. So yea, a bigger SSD is the easiest choice.

Thanks for the insight guys. I will be sure to invest in a larger drive... I was hoping 30GB was gonna be good enough. Guess not :/ Curse you windows

If i were buying right now i would get an Intel 80GB X-25M. As much as i love my OCZ Vertex i think they suck as a company with horrible customer support and an RMA process that would try the patience of a saint.
Intel also have the lowest returns rate for SSD of any company by a large margin. Fast, cheap and reliable. Intel ftw.

Oof, thanks for the heads up... I'm rocking a kingston (can you tell I'm a cheapass?) I guess I should actually pay for quality. :S And I was juuuuust looking at OCZ 60GB's

Do we think a 16Gb SDHC card would work?

This is sorely tempting - never have to use the MD again and still have plenty of spare space!!

Sweet!! Last year 1GB was mainstream, now it's 2GB but it's raising very fast.
I'm waiting on 8GB to be in store, but 16GB sounds more interesting.

No, I don't think it would work. Our device is only capable of accepting either the MicroSDHC (with an adaptor) or MiniSDHC.
SDHC's physical dimension is too large to be slotted into our device.
you can get a convertor from sd to micro sd its being on these forums before but this is a good price for anyone looking at the shift to improve batterylife and increase storage for that as it uses sd as far as i remember

They will presumably bring out Mini and Micro versions in the not too distant future....

converter from sd to micro or mini.. google search just comes up with mini to sd adapter, ie wrong way round. im getting an athena, and i dont need the space, but would be cool to have the possibilty of paying 60 quid for 16 gb of storage.
and to think, 2 years ago, november 2005, i got a 2gb ms pro duo for my psp and k750 for 80 quid in singapore, when 1gb were 100 quid.. now look lol
should work if it comes in our size miniSD or microsd w/adapter.kaiser is rated up 32gb and i think the athena is the same.

I did find one once from a no-name mfr in China or Taiwan. It was basically a Mini-SD card with a flat ribbon cable coming out of it into a PCB that had an SD adapter on. I assume it would work, but looks like it would break apart within 5 mins. And added to the fact that you would have to leave the flap open on the athena compartment.
Not quite 16GB yet, but the 12 GB microSDHC is already out. See this thread:

any capacity will work, provided the device supports sdhc. 32gb is the official (so far) limit on the sdhc capacity

My understnading is that 32 gb is the limit of the current os. Once we upgrade to wm7 this will no longer be applicable.
32gb is the official purported maximum capacity of the sdhc standard, though this 'wall' may be lifted in future (2terabytes if you believe wikipedia). It is certainly not os specific.
I think 32 gigabytes of data storage should be overkill for most people anyway. It seems many people have ample media and software on their microdrive and still have 50 percent left, though if my ssd vs sdhc poll is to be believed some people would like 64gb of storage on their Athenas: whilst this is all good for showing off, in real terms such a large amount of storage would be fairly pointless to the average joe. Only video files could realistically swamp such a chasmic void of memory and who really wants to keep films they've already watched on their hard drive (unless of course it's a particularly good film)?
This principly applies to any phone, pda or multimedia device. One use for which i do propose to use a 32gb sdhc is in my eee pc. Provided the write speed of a class 6 card is fast enough i will use one to install xp and give me the extra space for program files and dowmoads that i crave

32GB is the maximum native partition size for window ce 5.0.
32GB is actually not difficult to fill once you start collecting musics, pictures and videos in a serious way. How big is iPod's biggest storage? Larger than 32GB I think. If I have that much space, I would convert all my old CD's and put all my CD in storage for good (may be will bury it for 200 years and have it sold as antique for a fortune then ).
Pictures is another story. It can only grow. I seldom want to delete them ever. My children's photo, no matter how old, must be kept for ever.
Another thing that I must mentioned is the video capture requirement. If you use your video camera, you will notice how quickly the disk storage get used up.
I won't be complaining about having too much disk space for this reason.
I still remember those early days when all we had on our IBM PC was a floppy and could'nt fantom why anyone could use a 10MB harddisk that cost $15,000. When my boss acquired a 100MB notebook, we all said he was insane because nobody should ever need so much space. Then, he went 1 GB! That was unthinkable. I'm seeing the same thing here. When the space is available, we will somehow find use for it, may be slowly, but surely.
May be 5 years later, we can look at this post again, and see if this is true
I agree space, however big can slowly be filled up for being social beings, one way or the other, we will be sentimental on things which we hold dear to us regardless how junk it may be for some other people.
What we are actually seeing here is the old evolution of storage space coming to life all over again. Different it may seem right now because of the difference in medium and usage but I agree with Eaglesteve. It may sound insane now but five years from now, it may look funny not just to us but to those that will replace us that we even talk about these things.
The beauty about having billions of people in this world is that in terms of economies of scale, it is faster to develop technology for everyone to use. Even if a small percentage will adopt a certain size of storage, it is already enough to make it economical for every one to use.
Even if there is a limitation in the OS that we are using right now, who's to say that it will not change in the future. It used to take MS 5 years to develop a new version of the Win CE OS. We have seen how fast Win CE evolved and we already have 1 whole version upgrade every 2 years or so. Every 6 months MS announces an aku upgrade on certain new devices. For me this is very good news, for the average joe this is nothing because he doesn't really care. His only concern is being able to use what he has. Actually the average joe is afraid of change. He wants his life to be better but is afraid of the sacrifices needed to make it better.
We, along with the minority are at the forefront of technological evolution. We are the early adoptors because we have the foresight to see the possibilities technology has in store for all of us. If we stop and become complacent, we will become the average joe and eventually get buried in the mass of zobies or sheep that the average joe really is.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion however crazy or educated they may be. However, an opinion may be shared by not just one or two but also by millions or maybe billions. It maybe that the average joe for now may crave for 8G storage whatever the medium. It may also be that people like leoni may think Asus eee may be a good replacement for the athena. But let us not forget, there are many more not voicing their opinions on this or any topic in and outside the forum.
The vocal ones maybe the catalyst for now but it is the masses or those affected by the mass marketing campaigns of businesses that will ultimately decide the future. Let us not forget though that for there to be a future for every one, we, the visionaries and early adoptors must constantly look choose for the best out there for us and influence others to our thinking. In doing so, we ensure that there will be a future for what we believe in. This is the essence of a forum. This is the reason we are here but then again, this is just my opinion.

Update on SSD in Shift

Hi, can anyone who's replaced the HDD with an SSD please post their experiences here. What differences have you found? Was it worth it?
- is the Shift more responsive or reliable?
- does it go to and return from sleep much faster?
I've been using an X300 with SSD for the past month and i couldn't imagine going back to HDD now. Would love to get SSD working in my Shift too but want to make sure the benefit is actually clear before making the $$$ investment!
Hi salmon,
i´m with you. I have some SSD HDD installed in my CarPC, 2 in my Servers and one in a Fujitsu Notebook. All of them works well. The last that i bought was the OCZ 2.5" 128GB SSD,
is not bad, but not really good, so they use the cheap Memory modules.
what for a SSD manufactor/ model you think about to build into your shift?
I think about this too, but if there no solution to become WM6.1 stable on the shift, I think the better way is to look to the other "Net-PC´s" that much more cheaper with the same features.
Hi joy.d,
I'm with you on that one. Since i got my Lenovo X300 with almost instant on/off standby functionality and super light chassis and SSD it's really shown up the Shift... i still haven't lost all hope, but have been eyeing up an Eee PC lately thinking "wow, just think how much money i could have saved!".
I do like the tablet form factor of the shift though and want to invest a bit to see if some of it's flaws can be overcome.
ok But which SSD you would like to use for the shift? 5000 series from Sandisk? (very slow)
I'm using MTRON MSD-PATA3018-ZIF2. I'm happy with the performance. The HDD index of Vista is 5.9.

I see, the Fujitsu-Siemens (Fujitsu) Lifebooks P7120, P1610 ans so on have the same connector. A micro-ATA connector. I found on Ebay some 32 Gigabyte SSD´s with micro-ata connector. But no 64GB. Maybe there is a small adapter cable to attach SSD´s with ZIF /PATA to micro-ATA...
here the adapter:

Waiting for my MTRON SSD to be delivered
I had ordered a MTRON Mobi3000 32GB 1.8" SLC SSD around 3 weeks ago for my Shift. Spoke with the supplier yesterday and they say it will be another week. This has a ZIF2 connector, not sure how different this is to a plain ZIF connector... we will see.
Very interested in boot times. I put Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs on my shift and have boot times of 20~25 seconds with the HDD, expecting sub 5 with the MTRON.
Paying $410 AUD delivered for the SSD
as far as i know for MTRON MOBI 3000 , zif ---> zif2 for mobi can be refered as 8mm-->5mm.HTC shift use ZIF2 for mtron.
japan got a lot of mobi 3000 32gb slc zif2 around 2man yen.
i plan to get one soon. but it seems the 64gb for zif 2 from others brand out too.
here is the demo for htc shift for mobi 3000 32gb slc!!
i seen this page long time ago though ,just forgot to link it here.

Anyone knows where the compact flash card on one of the picture is from?
Is it from Snapvues internal storage?
If it is it would be easy to change it with a larger card and then be able to get a lot more storage on WM6 side?
Maybe I'm far off, but I just got the idea. Sorry if it has already been covered before
Kakemann
He wanted to use that storage card as a HD, but the cable was to short.
It's not a default item in the Shift.
If you search for naked shift or something like that, you will find pictures of if
bosmen means, that the WM6 side has fixed memory inside mounted, not changeable, the compact flash to zif adapter with 32GB compact flash was a Idea to have a cheap HDD replacement of the slow 40GB HDD from HTC, but there is the originaly mounted ZIF cable to short.
Im shure, the idea with CF Card is to slow.. (but a good cheap Idea ;-)
Just received my MTRON SSD
Just received my MTRON SSD after waiting about a month!
Will install it tonight so very keen to see vista boot times...
is ur vista business or home? home will definitely fly u out of windows (fast!) :}
SSD Vista boot time
Well have installed the MTRON SSD and restored the original Vista Business image with Origami and the MS Office trial. Now I am sure somewhere in Vista there is a utility to tell you the boot time, but I can't find it. So going by the unscientific watching the clock method of measurement it takes 2:05 to go from the 'press del to enter the bios' etc screen to finishing loading Origami (who actually is using that thing?). From memory that was taking 3:30 before hand.
Vista is really twitchy now. Very responsive to input - that is going to take a bit of getting used to.

Would a RAM upgrade speed up my laptop?

Hey guys, I'm thinking about giving my laptop a little speed boost. This would be the first time I've replaced anything in a laptop to make it go faster (I've replaced an LCD before) and it looks easy enough, but is it worth the money?
I'm considering going to 8Gb DDR3 1333MHZ from 4Gb. It's going to cost about £60 for the RAM, and I'd sell the old stuff on ebay, which should make it slightly more affordable. RAM is the joint lowest windows experience index score with my HDD at 5.9, so that's why I thought I'd start there.
My computer specs are:
i-7 740qm 1.73GHz quad core processor
Nvidia 335M GPU
RAM would certainly be the cheapest and easiest thing to upgrade, but is it worth it? I do quite a bit of gaming, mostly Wii games with Dolphin Emu.
Cheers

4GB would seem like enough, but yea it should provide a performance boost. If you can, you should go with 1600Mhz instead of 1333Mhz. Btw what kind of laptop do you have? Also the more DIMMS, the more better.
8GB would provide a good performance boost.
4GB is optimal, and 8GB for anything in general is actually best. 1600Mhz would even be better.
Sorry for the two posts. I've been awake for the past 24hrs.
Also are you running your operating system in 64bit or 32bit? I figured I'd ask since your specs for a laptop seem fine regarding performance.
It's a Dell XPS L501x. 1600MHz also looks afforable, I might go for that. As I say I am new to this, is it definitely possible to put 1600 in to replace 1333? All I know about my current RAM is that it is 2x2Gb 1333MHz ddr3 204pin. Is it as simple as taking the laptop apart, out with the old, in with the new, boot it up? That's what the manual is suggesting.
Oh, and it's 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium

I'll look into your laptop to see if it is compatible, which it should be. Anyhow for my dad's XPS M1730, there is a little door on the bottom of it that needs to be unscrewed so you can replace the RAM. It is easy as pie, just make sure you install it correctly and check if your motherboard supports 8GB.
Okay I've checked out your laptop. It supports up to 8GB 1333Mhz so 1600Mhz is out of the question. So upgrade to 8GB 1333Mhz.
Fantastic, thank you. How much of a performance boost do you think it'll give? I'm eventually planning to upgrade to a faster hard drive too.

It will be notable.
Here is how RAM works with laptops.
2GB is Fair
4GB is Solid
8GB would be considered best. This includes desktops that are for gaming.
So if you ever build a gaming desktop, 8GB would be more than enough for enthusiasts gamers.
Your laptop comes with a 7200RPM Hard drive which is good as it is. I do not know if it supports a 10,000RPM hard drive. If anything you should check out solid state drives also known as SSD's. They are expensive, but they provide gorgeous performance. Just make sure your laptop supports it.
Well thats laptop is even speedier than my desktop from 2007 AMD 4400(something).
Using mostly a EeePC 1005HA (Win7 starter) with 2GB of RAM.
I found that the best way to use that excess RAM was by turning of the Windows Paging file/Swap file off. Windows is forced to use the RAM the computer got.
Which is giving a terrific speed boost. Have runned the 1005HA without Swap file since December 2009.
Also make sure to have updated BIOS firmware, my Desktop was sluggish and slow after installing Win7 Home. It turned out to be the BIOS needed a firmware that worked with Win7.

How can you guys survive without an SD slot (Especially Nexus users) ?

Hi,
Just wanted to discuss, as I'm curious about the opinion of people here, especially those (But not limited to) who are getting an Nexus phone which has obviously no SD card slot;
Had an Optimus One from 2011 to 2014 as my first phone and then switched to Galaxy S4. Sometimes I thought maybe I could have gotten a Nexus, or not sure, maybe a Nexus could be my next phone, or even a Sony (I like my S4. But when I got it, I didn't knew about KNOX haha. I'd rather not support Samsung in the long run with their KNOX flag I guess).
The lack of an SD card slot always drove me away from Nexus phones (Except Nexus One, which I did considered long ago), although it's true that Nexus phones look pretty amazing. How did you guys (Not limited to Nexus) chose a Nexus, not fearing that you might end up lacking storage at some point? I used to store Dreamcast ROMs in my SD card, and played around with Dolphin emulator for a while, these are quite huge files, and if you put movies in the phone too haha, space can run out pretty quick.
I have the 16GB variant of the S4 along with a 32GB microSD card (External SD close to full. Might upgrade to 64 eventually) - My 32GB card is close to full, so obviously a 32GB phone with no SD is a big no-no. 64GB would be the bare minimum, considered that storage space would be splitted between the user data (/Data/Media) and the /Data partition itself for app storage, also not forgetting the /System partition, I might even get tight on storage on a 64GB phone. So the wisest choice would be to get a 128GB version which is costly anyway.
I discussed about my point/needs myself, altough I'm especially curious, while I will have to say goodbye to SD cards slot at some point anyway, some people here did chose recent phones with lack of SD support without any fear of lacking storage (Which unfortunately drive me away from Nexus, but might consider a 128GB variant).
How is the lack of an SD card slot not a deal-breaker to you, and worth all the other features, guys?
Thank you for reading.
The tough question. I was hoping to see good answers, but I think some might shy away from it. My wife has the 2013 Moto X, and it doesn't have a memory card. Worse, it's capped at 16GB. She has a couple games, but she's put a bunch of anime episodes on it. And been unable to update apps or take OTAs (she runs everything all stock) due to not having enough size. And that really sucks.
I personally will not use a smartphone without a microSD card slot unless it has 128GB or more. That's my new rule. My HTC One M8 has 32 internal and a 64GB memory card. 64GB alone would not be enough. 96 is fine. 128 would be sweet. I can go up to 128GB in the M8, and have 160GB, and that's beastly, but unnecessary.
There are now wireless flash drives, but they aren't cheap. You can get a 64GB WiFi flash drive on Amazon for about $50. I'm guessing it's an AP and works as a NAS, but I'm not really familiar with these things. But I'm betting it's easy to set up, and almost certain more than one device can access it. So there's an advantage, but then again it would also need to be charged.
If you wanna go with truly external (i.e. outside the phone) just get a portable hard drive. I only recommend Western Digital. The WD My Passport is around $60 for 1TB and $100 for 2TB. I have the old 500GB model and it's great. Actually running Portable Chrome off it right now on a Windows machine that isn't mine. I'm not trying to be sneaky or anything, I'm transparent with my hosts with what I'm doing, but it's nice to have my own bookmarks, extensions, all that good stuff. I can't imagine having 2TB. These things are small. Shorter than a smartphone but wider. Definitely pocketable, but you should be careful, they are not solid state, they have platters. Anyway, get a USB OTG cable, and you have to be rooted with Nexus to do this (HTC One M8 just does it), and you plug in the drive and bam, that's 500GB or 1TB or 2TB your phone can use. Drains battery like a ************, again spinning platters. So, best to copy the media files over that you want to use, and then unmount the drive (before unplugging it).
I feel, as a smartphone guy, the kit doesn't include just the phone. For me, I have a 2A charger base and cord (this is also my data cable), and a 10,000mAh battery and its cord (which doesn't work for data). I have a Quick Charger at home, really should swap it out for the 2A. And I carry the 500GB hard drive most places. Oh, and I also have a 64GB phone flash drive. I almost didn't mention this, but I have a flash drive that plugs into the base of a phone. It won't work with the 2015 Nexus phones because they're Type C, and it doesn't work with a lot of phones. My wife's 2013 Moto X for instance, can't read it. My M8 can. Got that for about $20. So that's in my kit as well, in a pouch with my Bluetooth earpiece.
Bottom line is, a microSD card slot is a luxury. It's nice to have, and it's damn cheap of Google to skimp on it (can they really cost Google that much?), but we have options.
I am having a smart phone with 32 GB. It is enough for me. So I am not facing any problem without SD card slot.
I currently have an Nexus 6 with 32GB storage.
For me, it is pretty much enough storage. I would probably get a 64 next time, but 32 does OK. The only thing that takes up any real space is TWRP backups (6GB each) and the MyBackup apps backups.
I guess I don't need as much storage as you and some people, and I don't know what you guys are needing 128GB storage for. For music I use Spotify. Even with my main playlists downloaded for offline play it's not that much space, I think they have an amazing compression algorithm because it sounds legit in my bluetooth headphones. What else is taking up big storage?
I can Netflix stream anything I want, I also have the sling capabilities in my DISH service, so I stream live TV on my phone like college football or any movie I want. Unlimited LTE with T-Mobile is a life saver! (sometimes I use 50 or 80 GB of LTE streaming per month)
So I cannot imagine needing any more than 64, and if I didn't have multiple ROM backups ("regular' users don't of course) 32 would be more than enough.
Now of course I'd prefer the option of MicroSD, but the benefits of a Nexus outweigh that one drawback, so I stick with the Nexus line of phones, and do weekly backups of anything truly important.
edit: just to add, Google does not forgo the option because of cost to implement it, but because they believe onboard storage is more secure and plays nicer with the OS. Also, keep in mind they can charge more for more storage. No one would buy the 64GB variant if the 16GB had a micro SD slot. Same concept as Apple I guess...
Oh hell no. If it doesn't have a MicroSD slot, I have no use for it... I've got a 128GB MicroSD and 32GB internal filled to the brim.
And I'm moderately screwed now, because I have 10MB free, and I need to put at at least 2 more seasons of 5GB each on there soon.... Bugger. That 256GB one out yet?

What are you watching on there that you cannot stream?

Everything.
Streaming is completely useless if you leave your house every once in a while.
And particularly useless if you live on a border. I can see the German border from my attic window, how stable do you think my network here is?
This is the average Dutch network on public transport once you leave the Randstad (main area with 4 largest cities, on the other side of the country):

}
I'm on public transport 6 hours a day. Good luck streaming on that.
Then there's the problem that there is no such thing as unlimited high speed data in the Netherlands. 12GB is the largest data subscription, and I can't afford to pay 60 quid a month. I've got 6GB.
I streamed part of the 8 o'clock news over 4G last week. (Horizon Go app). Those 5 minutes cost me 102MB. I've got 6GB, so that's a total of 5 hours that I can stream.
I can't even make it ONE DAY if I stream video. How can anyone consider that a solution? I require a total of almost 120 hours a month, not 5....
And then there's the fact that most of this isn't even available on streaming services. Netflix Netherlands has about 2% of what Netflix USA has. Supernatural? Nope. Doctor Who s9? Nope. Sherlock S3? Nope. Lord of the Rings Extended? Nope. Any Within Temptation or Blind Guardian concerts? Nope. Firefly? Nope. Person of Interest S4? Nope. Just to name a few.
If I have to rely on streaming to watch anything, I'll be staring at the ceiling for 6 hours a day. Not exactly my favourite pastime in a crowded train. :silly: I'd go completely bonkers in a matter of minutes...
This is what is currently on my MicroSD:
Video:
Supernatural Season 4, 6.45 GB
Supernatural Season 5, 6.45 GB
Supernatural Season 6, 6.44 GB
Supernatural Season 11, 257MB (So far; that's just episode 1.... I've got a problem tomorrow..... How am I going to squeeze another 257MB into a 22MB slot?)
Sherlock Season 1, 8,74 GB
Sherlock Season 2, 4,23 GB
Sherlock Season 3, 4,98 GB
(I'm screwed next year... Is that 256GB MicroSD out yet?)
Person Of Interest Season 4, 17,3 GB
Firefly, 8.09 GB
Within.Temptation.Black.Symphony.2008.1080p.MBluRa y.x264-SEMTEX, 10.9 GB
Within Temptation - Let Us Burn Hydra Amsterdam 2014 720p, 3.27 GB
Within Temptation Let Us Burn Elements Antwerp 2014 1080p MBluRay x264-TREBLE, 5.46 GB
Blind Guardian Imaginations Through The Looking Glass 2004, 2.18 GB
Total: 84.75 GB.
Music:
Amethystium, 7 CD's, 1,0 GB
Blind Guardian, 14 CD's, 2.10 GB
Within Temptation 16 CD's, 1.47 GB
Delain 5 CD's, 500 MB
Nightwish 17 CD's, 2.60 GB
Julie Fowlis 3 CD's, 230 MB
Ron Korb Japanese Mysteries, 465 MB
Top 2000, 19,2 GB
Misc, 2GB
Dragon Age Inquisition Tavern Songs, 70 MB
Total: 29.63 GB
Books & Documents:
21.257 files, 2GB
Magazines:
65 items, 2,75GB (Digital SLR Photography, National Geographic, Scientific American, ImagineFX, Advanced Photoshop, Sky At Night, Science Illustrated, Computer Arts, SFX, Total Film, Practical Photography, etc.)
Total space used: 119.13 GB
Free Space: 22 MB.
thats why i have a device with sd slot. I need more than 32GB and i dont understand devices with 16gb without an sd slot
Well that's the difference then. I get at least 20 to 60 Gbps down everywhere I go, and I get unlimited LTE, so honestly I just don't need one...all depends on your situation I guess..
I have a Moto G (XT1032) with only 8GB storage but I've bought an OTG USB to add more memory. In its I've only songs.
(Did I write OK? )

If I were you, I would compress these videos or lower the resolution just a little haha - So that it would remains enjoyable anyway, but some people don't like to destroy quality/resolution even a bit (So if you would happen to watch on your TV, for instance).
Wanted to let you know that there IS a 200 GB microSD availible since the beginning of 2015, although it's obviously really expensive (Yeah, 200 GB, not 256. Read that SanDisk had to use new techniques again to fit more storage on them, and they were unsucessful in reaching 256GB, but released the 200GB anyway to answer the high demand for more storage space).

So expensive, to be honnest, haha.

They're already h264 720p mkv's instead of 1080. Any lower than that and they'll look dreadful on my 12.2" 2K NotePro....
I saw it at Saturn recently, but it's €279. For that money I could simply buy five 128GB ones, as they're only €55.....

Absolutely true, that price is insane (For now), haha
My OnePlus One has 64gb, and I've found it to be plenty. I'm saving up for a 64gb Nexus 6 (old one). Obviously, I'd prefer a microSD slot, but 64gb gives me enough space. My Galaxy S4 has 16gb (less than 10 usable) and a 64gb card, which is also plenty, especially since I have several cards. My Nexus 4 16gb however...there's barely enough room for my standard apps, a game or 2, and a TWRP back-up.
Well, my phone is 16 GB and I think it is already enough for me. I rarely store files in my phone. So I am not facing any problem without SD card slot too.:cyclops:

Why do you keep everything on the phone? You don't need a complete series of something that's 200 hours long, especially not after you've watched it. I'm assuming you have all these video files on a PC somewhere and you manually copy them to the phone, so why not just clean up every now and then and delete what you've watched?

Two main reasons:
One, I'm not always able to access a computer to put new media on there, leading directly to Two: Because I rewatch them often. I've got a total of about 6TB of films and series to swap around, these are just the ones I leave on there. In particular the Sherlock and Supernatural seasons, those I watch so often it's simpler to just leave them on.
The problem is that a 32GB internal memory that has to share the space with apps, music, photo's and magazines isn't anywhere near enough to store 3 hours of videos, let alone 6 hours a day.
I'm not going to spend an hour every day swapping videos just because I didn't think ahead before I spend 800 euro/1300 dollar on a device that doesn't suit my needs. I've got more things to do... Now I've got enough space to last a week before I need to swap.
If these phones were 100 quid, sure. But not something that costs that much. I'm not going to change my needs to suit a tool.
I have an s4 32 GB
And its enough for me at least?
My previous phone was an HTC One X+ (64gb nonremovable) and it was more than enough for me.
I'm hoping for Marshmallow's new int+ext "RAID" for my G4, but since I'm on a carrier phone, who knows? ;(

migrate from bootable ssd to hdd windows 10

Hello Guys!
I know this thread is the most irrelevant, but I would like some help. Two years ago I built my own desktop. Unfortunately, due to low budget, I got a 60 Gb SSD and a 500 Gb HDD. Since I got the windows 10 upgrade, my ssd is almost full. I am thinking (since I cannot afford to buy a new ssd of at least the double size) to migrate into the hdd. Is there any possible way without having to format the hdd. Thanks in advance!
There's a dedicated pc thread here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1765837
So I'll closed this one. :good:
