I'm looking for a kernal for cog4 that won't kill my battery or freeze my phone (sadly the new suckerpunch is a no-go). I'm testing the firebird v2.10 I had with cog v3.04, but idk about speed and battery life. Also has no OC option.

I'm using suckerpunch #54 without a problem. Have you tried paragon?

Well on the kernel page it should say if the kernel will work for 2.x or 2.2.1 roms

Its based off of speedmod, will work with both 2.2 and 2.2.1 captivate roms. I'm thinking the overclock made it freeze up, which is unfortunate because I'm looking for a bit of stable OC

The only OC kernels I saw out there were i9000 series. Wonder if some true Captivate based kernels will show up.

I am using the newest cog Tom and would like to be able to use a kernel that enables oc/UV and the different lagfix options. Can anyone tell me how I flash just the kernel over the cog Tom?

i wasnt aware that unhelpful had created a 2.2 kernel?
so what you want to do is flash a 2.1 kernel into a 2.2 rom? are you sure you have read the dev forums?
If there it is a 2.2 kernel, just flash the stock 2.1 kernel with odin and flash the one you want over (sorry vague) but just search it
*edit*
Its on the cognition wiki

i know how to flash a kernel, but the OP stated they were on the latest COG which is 2.2. unhelpful's kernel is a 2.1 kernel. flashing a 2.1 kernel on a 2.2 rom will end in boot loops....it wont be pretty.
the only kernel that i know of at this time for us to use OC/UV on 2.2 is setiron's, and its a modified i9000 kernel.
rather than trying to get someone else that has already done the legwork on learning ODIN to respond, I think the OP needs to read...a lot
I have been reading alot and can't seem to find a direct description on how to do this.

probably because you havent provided enough information....
i will repeat.
if you try to install unhelpful 2.1 kernel on a 2.2 rom, it WILL NOT work.
so, are you trying to do this on a 2.1 rom or a 2.2 rom?
there are plenty of instructions out there, so you havent read enough.....there are really only 2 ways to flash a kernel. through Clockworkmod or through ODIN.....pick your poison.
If you flash cog 2.1.7 you will have unhelpfuls kernel version 1.7 but i prefer version 1.4.1 despite the lack of voodoo lag fix. It just worked better on my phone. Great battery life.
overclocking may not be enabled at first so read unhelpfuls first post first if you dont get it ask more questions.
If you flash a cog 2.2bx 2.3bx or 2.4.x rom then you are looking for setirons kernel. It has more advanced lagfix options but i get battery drain so the undervolt thing is useless. There is a way to fix it but its too much to explain.
All in all overclocking is mostly for bragging rights. On ecliar it was good using unhelpfuls kernel.
Setirons kernel may be very advanced but there are tradeoffs it being an i9000 port.

Hi. I just looked at the dev section but couldn't find the right darkcore kernel that would allow me to overclock my phone. Does anyone know a modded darkcore kernel that can be overclocked?? And is compatible with darkys rom 10.2 extreme edition?? Thanks...

Quite a few peoples are using Semaphore dude! Works a treat with Darkys 10.2.
I think Semaphore JVQ_1.3.3 in particular as Darkys is JVQ based.
DarkCore doesn't support OC / UV.
Semaphore 1.4 worked perfectly when I was on Darky 10.2. Didn't try OC/UV though.
Galaxian has been said to work nice with 10.2 aswell and has UV/OC

Semaphore allow OC. And it is stable too.
About phone:
GT-I9000
I9000XXJVQ
Semaphore_JVQ_1.3.3
DarkyROM JVQ v10.2
(GO Launcher, GO SMS, GO Contact)
Check the DarkyRom forums beta rom section for the XXJVR rom (my url's get truncated so the title is here - [ROM][CWM][SGS+Cappy] DarkyROM XXJVR BASE
).
Download Tegrak app from Market which will still allow you to overclock. There have been a few iterations and believe Dark Core 3.0 is latest version. I am at DC 2.9.3 and was able to OC to 1.1 (1.2 hung on me but I understand am on a beta).
While I have SetCPU, I cannot OC but Tegrak app works on Dark Core (don't know how).
I checked the tegrak overclock app. I have the ultimate version and saw that I can set cpu freq to 2000 I think... I have the dark core from darky 10.2. I am not sure what.values to set on the app to have either overclock of 1100 or 1200 freq..

So far haven't gotten stable results passed 1.1. Keep getting hangs which need reboot. Even suspect about 1.1 so have kept quiet. Be curious what others have as well.

Is your setup on a I9000M Bell Version or the standard I9000?
And how long is your battery life?
I'm only messed with the Rogers Captivate with mixed results in terms of ROMs and Kernels so, I'd love to have the best rather then days of hit & miss again.
Cheers, Red Hazy
My apologies if I'm thread-jacking but, I'm sure others may want to know the same info...?

Bell I9000M. Battery life gets me through a full day with heavy use, recharge overnight -- no battery drain overnight if its already charged, use the phone too much to know how long it would go with just minimal phone use but that usage pattern also defeats the purpose of having a smartphone in the first place. Battery life is way better than when I was on stock 2.2 Bell firmware!
Tried lots of different combinations before finding damians kernel and then Brotuck's roms -- Tornado is the culmination of their close collaboration and it shows in performance. Yes you get speed, but you also get stability, smooth phone performance and good battery life.
Can we install the above said rom on standard i9000 ?

Hi,
Just flashed to insanity 041 with semaphore and stock 2.3.5... JVS...
Having really poor battery performance... I've since read the Stock kernel is performing better...
Can anyone advise whether this is the case or if there is better option?...
Also, can't find any links to Stock 2.3.5 kernel, can anyone point me in the right direction?...
Thanks
Stock jvs kernel with cm7????
You need to check the cm7 thread for stock kernel - it is NOT jvs though!
Sent from my Galaxy S using XDA Premium App
You are already on the stock kernel! Poor battery life is the reality of cm based roms but they are getting better. Give it a couple of chargingcycles and it will improve. You can also try Pimp my Cpu and undervolt some.

Are there any benefits from using the Glitch/Platypus kernels for CM7 for a person who will not be overclocking their phone. Glitch I see is really just a OC/UV kernel which seems to not have any other enhancement on my phone except for maybe more battery drain, which could be my imagination. I have yet to try Platypus but seems more promising. So for a person who does not OC which kernel would you prefer? Should I just stay with stock CM7 kernel or try Platy for the voodoo lagfix enhancements?
