[SOLVED] Where is my MMS icon? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys,
My girlfriend has the Nexus S and I noticed on her phone in MMS she has a picture set for herself and its viewable.
On my Nexus One when I text the icon for me is always grey.
Is this only an issue for me and is there a fix for it?
An example of what I mean is attached.
EDIT:
Fixed!! Thanks to andrew2511 and baseballfanz

Put your sim card in an older gsm phone, create a contact with your infos and save it to sim card.

You need to put your SIM in a phone that has the ability edit the 'My Number' entry. Apparently iPhones can do it. I used an oldish Sony Ericsson for mine, think it was a K550i.

Is there a reason no one has written an app to do this yet? Does Android not have the ability to manage the data stored on the sim card for some reason?

on CM go to settings>call settings>additional settings and set your number in "my phone number". then create an account in your contacts with your number and your photo. try!

Do what Andrew said. It works on stock or any rom.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App

How can it work on stock when it's a Cyanogen feature? Also it doesn't edit the number on the SIM (as I understand it) so you can't flash CM, make the change and revert to stock.

Thanks Andrew it worked!! Fixed OP with your instructions.
EDIT:
Can anybody confirm that it works on stock?
It worked on CM7 for me.

No it doesn't work on stock, it's a CM enhancement.

The "Me" contact save to sim card work for stock. At least it did for me
when I was stock Froyo ROM way back when.

That only worked because your SIM had your number correctly set up, if it doesn't (like the OPs) then the contact wont be picked up.
You can tell where the problem is from the icon, if it's a solid grey square, then it's the SIM, if it's an empty contact card, then your solution applies.

Put your SIM card in another phone that lets you edit phone numbers on SIM card. Then create a new phone number for yourself. It should auto-detect once back in the Nexus One.
This is a bug in FroYo and there's no other way to fix it until Google does.

all I did was create a contact named "me" with my number and a pic, worked fine.
although I don't think it has to be named "me" as long as it has your number.

You need to set your own number on your SIM card.
Something like:
Voice Line 1 +49xxxxxxxxx
NOT in your contacts but a SIM card manager. Ask a buddy with a Windows Mobile phone, also checkout this thread, all answers are there.
Yep, like the above poster said. Almost any phone that's not android can do this. I changed mine on my friend's blackberry.
And I fixed mine with my Dad's K550i

I don't really remember the blackberry menu, but it was something like sim manager, probably under advance option. If you see it, you wont miss it.

[Q][SOLVED] Update the phone number after porting

I recently had my old phone number ported to my new network, but in the Settings -> About Phone -> Status screen the phone number is still showing as the temporary one assigned by the network while I was waiting for the port, which was different to the SIMs original, and it changed then.
Is there anyway to get this to update? I've tried restarting the phone, with and without the SIM in but it's still showing as the temporary number. The port has definitely taken place as people have phoned me on my old number and I've phoned them and it's shown as me.
Any help greatly appreciated
No-one know then?
It sounds to me like this may be something that is programmed into the simcard and doesn't change when the operator changes the number (or something like that). I doubt you will be able to fix it yourself, seems to me that this is either due to some delay in the operators system (unlikely after 4 days) or its just coded on the simcard and doesnt change. Maybe there is a program to edit that somewhere but I have no clue.
I've had almost the same problem since the beginning. There's no number on the info field.
I had a new contract and a sim card for the phone, but there was no number. I also have no idea how the number is defined in the field.
Try This and see.
Australian Sim Cards do not have any number Details Programmed so you may be able to program the Sim via your Phone.
Go to Contacts -> Menu Key -> More -> Settings -> Own Numbers.
Here you may see your old Number. Just open this and change the Info and Save.
you may have to Reboot to see any effect.
Keep us updated if this change works.

Hi, I have the same exact problem as above when I had my number ported to T-mobile. I was really searching for a way to fix it then I came across this, I tried this but I do not see that option for me, do you know of any other way to update or fix this? I find it a bit annoying haha. Plus I want to root and do not want any possible mishaps. I am on the Galaxy Note 4 by the way. Thank you.

I rooted and it was fine so I am happy there but I still do want to update the number. Recently I sent my friend a picture message and she got it form my temporary number and it annoyed the heck out of me, a few minutes later I resent one and it was fine so I guess it was a tiny mess up. I wonder if going in and buying a new sim or something would help because if it does and the sim is $10 I'd be willing to do that.

[Q] Can Galaxy S change sim phone #?

Went to install an app and noticed my number is wrong. I actually just now remember YouMail would have the wrong phone number for my default login as well.
So somehow when my sim card was setup, they missed a digit. Ive read the iphone is able to write a # to the sim card as can some other phones (though not all write it in a way the galaxy s can use it i guess?).
So my question is is there a hidden dialer code or app or anything im able to use to change the number, or does this have to be done OTA by the carrier or in one of their stores? Im hoping im able to just do this myself and get it done with.
Thanks!

The only rom which you have the possibility to change your number is CM7/miui , but somsung roms don't give you that options , with cm7 you can go into setting - calls - advance setting , then you will see your phone number options

[Q] Android secret codes

Does anyone know of a way to store and automatically dial codes such as *#*#4636#*#*? They can't be stored and dialed like a normal phone number.
I used to be able to use Anycut but this no longer works on JB.

I had installed it & was workin fine til ICS..after I installed JB, I haven't restored it to check if its working..even if it doesn't work, the advantage is you need not to save each code..you will have everything in one place

Well, not really not much use if all it does is show the code on the button label. I have a doc file with all the codes written down anyway. It's funny though, how one or two work but not the rest. Be interesting to see if it works for you when you re-install.

Yeah, I think it's the ROM or Kernel or both NOT the app. I can't even enter the codes into the phone dialer manually. Only the one to reveal the IMEI works. Wonder what has changed since ICS in this regard.

Here is the MMS APK that has material design, yes it has quick reply.
I have pulled this APK from Euphoria ROM for my own use, but I thought some of you may wish to use it.

Yea but this is XDA. It's way to easy to install or update an app via the Play Store. XDA-style, we unlock the bootloader, install the new ROM, rip the apk of the app, then host it on a filesharing service. :highfive:

This is not the same app, the one you linked is the Google Messenger application, what I have posted is the AOSP MMS APK. This is the MMS apk you all are familiar with from CyanogenMod, but with a material design like the new Google Messenger app.
Was this actually updated with material on aosp or did someone customize it.
Thanks for the app link. It's so much better than the Google messenger. I couldn't stand not having the enter key and all the random colors for people.
