[Q] probably my last attempt... please help.

hi everyone,
with the G2 coming out next month, I think this is gonna be my last attempt at getting my G1 working acceptably.
for those of you that would like to skip my sob story/history, you can skip to the next paragraph. i've had a G1 since july 2009. even though i do love it and android, the thing has constantly run horribly for me. constant lag, a history of force closes (although lately none of that luckily), lots of freezing, restarts etc. i've gone thru tons of different roms, currently on e-Xtreme 2.1 version 1.3. had lots of experienced people from these boards help me with flashing, setting up, reflashing, flashing again, setting up again, formatting my sd card, trying different setups, unrooting and rerooting. we've tried all different kinds of things to get me running well. i'm also at this point using NO widgets except the google search bar and the power widget included in 2.1. when i go to running services all i have is android keyboard, quick search box, gtalkservice, twidroyd, cm updater (impossible to shut off it seems), and setcpu. still i get constant lag from everything from opening messages, to opening websites, to getting back to the home screen, to pretty much everything. forget about loading the camera, it can take like 15 seconds sometimes! i frequently use cachemate to clear my cache. honestly right now the phone is working pretty much the best it's ever worked, but its still awful. also sometimes when i get back to my homescreen my icons don't show up. it's actually bad enough that sometimes i will just not bother doing something i wanted to do cause i dont feel like dealing with it lagging and/or freezing up. and forget about widgets. haha.
ok so, you may or may not have skipped all of that, but at this point, i want my phone to run better in a last ditch effort to maybe be able to stick with the g1 until my full contract is up in july 2011. if not i'm doing the early upgrade and reupping my 2 year contract and getting the g2 next month... what i'm wondering is maybe theres an app i have installed that's eating up memory in some way and is a known issue. i've searched around but haven't found anything about these, and rather than sit here and delete each one, one by one, waiting to see if the phone runs better, i figured i'd just type out a list and see if anyone knows of any known issues with any of these... so here it goes:
astro
barcode scanner
cachemate
calwidget
color flashlight
craigsnotifica
dolphin browser
droidball
drop
facebook
frontiers demo
googles
google sky map
gscript lite
last.fm
latitude
lyric droid
magic gem II demo
movies
myspace
nesoid
news and weather
newsrob
orbs knockoff
painting findings
pandora
pingdroid
replica island
rom manager
setcpu
springpad
soduku free
tangram master full
throw a panda
that's it. i really don't think that's so excessive. i mean theres only like 5 or 6 games in there and some of those things like setcpu, facebook and cachemate are pratically required for proper phone usage. and i wouldn't even bother having a phone without twidroyd and newsrob.
so has anyone heard of any known issues with lag caused by having one of these installed and/or one of these doing something in the background that slows stuff down?
thanks so much to anyone that helps. i'm willing to give this one more try. maybe even wiping and reflashing one more time, but after the dozen times i have already, i think i might just be expecting too much haha.
thanks
Dave

[Q] Taskmanager Update

I don't know if simply due to my finger hovering to close to the screen, I read the new samsung taskmanager update permissions and decided no, thought I'd come away from that screen cleanly, but the notification bar said it's downloaded. It's hard to believe for one thing of many, that it takes our acceptance to take pictures, and just to update a taskmanager it seems like it asks for as much access as the whole of the g***le system, who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks. I'm not rooted or anything, but I wondered if the previous version can be just downloaded over it, and if any one has it (If I'm allowed to ask.). Also can any one take a look at the app and put my mind at rest. I thought when having to update samsung apps itself for the umpteenth time, it was quite refreshing how little it now wanted in the way of permissions, but unless I'm wrong and I may well be, it's leaning towards getting permissions in places where you wouldn't expect, don't know why I even bothered to look at a taskmanager, but it surprised me when I did. With all this stuff reporting home it's no wonder we have battery and data level problems. Anyway, question and mini rant over...lol.

[Q] Clean Master

I have the Clean Master app to clean out junk files. I don't use it to free up memory/memory boost though. I was wondering if the app is even useful at all or can I just uninstall it?
Uninstall this app. Its useless and damages your phone more than it helps from what I hear.
uses a lot of battery also, had it on my nexus 6 forever and my battery was ok, now that i uninstalled it im getting way better battery life
Always consider why you are using a system cleaning application to begin with. Are you using an application like that because your phone is running slow, is bogged down by junk files and years worth of SMS and photos?
I'm not going to say that all cleaning apps are snake oil, because every now and then a little spring cleaning on your phone is in order. Any phone, regardless of how it is maintained. I would recommend doing a factory reset after six months or so and only installing the applications you truly use. Nothing more, nothing less. You'd be amazed at all the remnants of files that remain after you uninstall an application. That's all I really try to clean out when I'm done with an app. If I installed a ton of apps recently I go with the factory reset. Otherwise I'll just plug my phone into the PC and use file explorer to remove old data and export pictures I haven't already uploaded to the cloud.

My phone was replaced and I need help finding the Theme I had

I recently had my nexus 5 replaced by LG. I had a full TWRP backup and complete backup of the "SD Card" to my local computer. Well now that I have my new phone back, TWRP will not allow me to push my backup onto the phone (Due to the hash that is generated on each phone to prevent TWRP from accidentally restoring to the wrong phone). No big deal, as I decided to put on CM13 anyway.
My phone had an awesome theme/launcher and I can not remember what it was called or when I even got it. The main screen had a picture of the ocean. The ocean was rough looking, rolling swells, the water translucent. It looked like a picture taken from a porthole on a cruise ship in some rough seas. There seemed to be some clouds in the sky. It was a beautiful picture. The picture would change to a few other ocean photos at certain times and on different screens/lock screen. Swiping to the right was the vertical scroll of all apps.
Does anyone know what I might be referring to? Is there a way that I could look on my TWRP backup or SD Card to see what might have been installed?

Input Wanted - Old Nerd with a new ROG Phone

Before I start, I'd like to once again that everyone here on XDA. This site has helped me develop my interest in and semi-pro hobby of all things Android.
Yesterday I was gifted a new sealed in box 1TB version of the ASUS ROG II. It seems like a pretty well built unit. I have a few questions. (Yes, I've browsed and searched our forums before posting this)
1. Since this unit is absolutely untouched, I'd like to make a FULL backup before doing ANYTHING. I've seen a few different methods, which one has proven to be the most reliable?
2. I intend to Unlock the Bootloader, load TWRP, and flash a custom ROM. What are the known pitfalls when BL unlocking or loading a custom recovery?
3. I hate to say this (considering the target demo of this phone) but I'm not really a phone gamer. This will be used for work and maybe light time wasting games. I'm not a fan of the included OEM case. I've long been a fan of the Otterbox cases. Who makes very good high quality yet tough case for this phone? (Yes, I know this has a LOT to do with personal preference but I'm open to all input)
4. Tempered Glass vs plastic screen protectors? I tend to prefer the tempered glass units.
5. Which ROM is a good high performance daily driver? I've long been a fan of the Resurrection Remix ROMs.
6. What's the real deal with some folks saying the screen turns green or blue or whatever?
Thanks for the input.
My preference:
1) To backup photos/videos/music/downloads just copy them to pc using faster side port. To backup apps use alpha backup pro so you can copy all apps along with data (root needed for copying app data). You can restore in both A10 , A11 and probably A9.
2) Bootloader unlock does 2 things , unlock Bootloader & erase internal storage (so backup everything before unlocking)
3) Its upto your preference. if you are comfortable with handling heavy & bulky phone, go for it.
4) I prefer neither, just handle the phone with care.
5) There are some custom roms available, which offers stock android experience and vast customisation checkout all roms. But if you want armoury crate and game genie stay on stock Rom
6) at low brightness & high refresh rate the grey colour looks reddish. It is problem with panel. You can correct it using kernel if you need.
