[Q] Backup/Recovery account issues - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Running CM7RC
Decided to try one of the themes so I did a backup first using ROM Manager.
Didn't like the themes so I tried to restore.
It is coming up without my google account and there is no option to add it in the account settings.
I've wiped and reapplied the backup and also fixed permissions to no avail so far.
I'm finishing a 2nd fix permissions after wiping everything (even Davlik).
Has anyone ever had this happen to them? If so, what was the fix?
I'd rather get it restored than start over...

Restoring the account settings in Titanium doesn't help either.
I'm screwed, aren't I?

Do you have the Google apps installed (market, etc)?

Yes, happened to me many times when I flashed CM and forgot to flash gapps.
Download gapps-gb-20110120-signed.zip from here: http://goo-inside.me/google-apps/ and flash from recovery.

Did you use clockworkmod 3.0? It's been known to messed things up during nandroid restore.
Flash GAPPS like other have mentioned.
If not full wipe and start over, use AMon Ra or an older CWM version

Yeah, they were there when I restored the backup but they wouldn't open because there was no google account in the phone. Could flashing gapps fix this?

Yes, it is cwm 3.0
For now I've done a full wipe and started over and after a couple of days of tweaking I'll likely forget the incident. I might try restoring and flashing gapps but I have my doubts as to whether that would work.
I'm going to have to start being more vigilant about backing up apps/settings/data in other ways if a nandroid backup isn't dependable...
Thanks for the comments.

OK, I just flashed RC2 and the account issue popped back up so it isn't necessarily that backup I did before.

Get rid of cwm 3.x and try using a different recovery...

For sure from now on.
I've got a clean install that I'm having issues with now...
Strange things are afoot.

New Market Question

Hey so I realized that since im running CM 6.1 im not gonna get the new market. I have seen a bunch of apks of it but people have been having issues along they lose a couple Google apps. My questions are is there a stable apk, how should I go about installing (some people said wipe market cache and dalvik)? And has anyone had download issues with the new market? Thanks in advance.

You could always flash the new market and reinstall the google apps. Or run a backup of your apps on titanium backup, flash the market, then restore your gapps minus the old market

It should work, it's the gapps I pulled off aosp's thread. I flashed them and they work fine.

What gapps did you flash when you flashed the ROM? I looked in the DC 2.8.1 thread and I did not see the gapps file.. I don't see why there would be a different gapps for every ROM.. Nandroid and flash it, see what happens.

[Q] HELP!!!!

Ok, so I have a rooted Nexus One with cyanogen 6.0rc3 on it. I recently tried to put cyanogen 6.1 on it so I could upgrade to 7.0. Then, I see the common glitch where there is no market so I revert back to my old rom which I made a backup for(using ROM Manager). So here comes the hard part, when it restores my ROM, have no apps, no nothing which I downloaded, and I tried to restore again, because ROM Manager reinstalled, but I didn't get anything. Can some tell me how to get my data and all my stuff back, please?!?!?!?! If I don't get help by the end of the month, my service gets cut off, so I really need help!!!! Please help guys, thanks in advance, you guys are the bomb!!!!

What's that supposed to mean? You lose service because you don't have the data on your phone restored?
Are you using apps2sd?
I feel like you have no chance of restoring anything at the moment though.
If you have a custom recovery, just wipe and start again, or restore your backup... Make sure you have a gapps package that is compatible with your ROM...

All your apps will be in the market under 'my apps' and as long as you have synched with Google servers all your data should be retrieveable by re-synching.

You don't need to go to cm6.1 to get to cm7. Even on 6.1 you need to do a full wipe anyway to eliminate any potential problems.
Also did you happen to use CWM 3.0?

[Q] Finallly rooted my N1 - so what is next for a new ROM?

Well after having my N1 for two years (I bought it on launch day) I finally got up the never to root it using this process.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319653
Had a few heart stopping moments as the script hung until I realised that while I had download the SDK to get the USB driver I hadn't actually installed the driver for the phone.
Confirmed that it was rooted by downloading Titanium Backup and doing a backup.
For a new ROM (as yet undecided) is a Titanium Backup good enough or should I also do the cyanogenmod clockworkmod recovery?
Should I be able to restore my apps and settings after the new ROM using the Titanium Backup?
You wanna do a Nandroid or Full Image Backup with Clockwork. Titanium is just as you said apps and data. Although, I think CWM has a system bu option. Don't use CWM anymore use Amon_Ra. So not up on steps. The post 3.0 CW's have had issues and are documented.
You can restore apps and data at any time with Titanium, but I think to do system stuff you need to be restoring to same rom.
I highly recommend Nandroids and sdcard backups before doing any new flashing.
Start with CM7 roms the stable ones, then move on. Read OP pages fully and scan threads front to back for info/problems etc

use the pre 3.0 versions
Let's try Amon_RA Recovery
Best recovery by far. Never any issues. Been using this version for months and months. Perfect with flashing, backing up, restoring, and partitioning.
are you experienced with fastboot commands adb etc
The downside with Amon_RA is it doesn't give you the option to wipe the /system partition. I have stuck with a pre-3.0 version of ClockworkMod for this reason. There is a new recovery out there called 4EXT that is based on ClockworkMod, but doesn't have the issue with corrupting partitions. He has also added a TON of new features. This does seem to be the best on out there now. He even just released a touch-based version. The thread is in the development section.

Stuck on Paranoid Android Bootscreen! (noob) HELP

Hey everyone...
ive already tried to get some quick help already but i really need my phone tonight LOL.
iam running cm9 rom with the latest cm9 stable kernal, now i wanted to flash the hydrocore kernal to see if battery would improve, but it seemed fine but then choppy afew hours later so i changed back to cm9 kernal. Anyway after it rebooted it stayed on the paranoid android bootscreen! where you see the picture loading. i then tried to wipe the cache and dalvik and its still stuck. someone mentioned to do a wipe but i was unsure if he meant to a full wipe? as ive not wiped the factory reset, just the two caches! ive also flashed both kernals back and forth and im still stuck.
Its a simple issue iam sure but could someone help me, im unsure if i should do a full wipe including factory reset or just flash the cm9 rom again. if so can i have instructions step by step...
thank you.
islandmixed, you are on a safe kernel so there is no harm in performing a wipe data/factory reset.

wipe data is totally wiping what's in your phone.. including what's inside the system/apps, build props and framework...
you may need to flash back your g.apps if you want to get all of them and selectively selecting which to install back(rather than just restoring it from TB)
TB does not restore all what you have made a backup to.

[Q] CWM 6.0.4.3 taking FOREVER to backup or restore

I was trying to play around with KitKat 4.4 on my AT&T HTC One today. All the forums here said to install the very latest CWM, which is 6.0.4.3.
I did install it successfully. But compared to the old version, 6.0.4.3 takes about 30 minutes literally to back up my phone or restore.
I'm figuring I'm doing something wrong? Any ideas, hints or tips?

known issue with recent versions of CWM, better to move to TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173870
(especially because 2.6.3.3+ support 4.4 ROMs)
downloads are here:

http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7ul
(dont use a download manager on that site it wont work, and make sure MD5 is correct)
Twrp doesn't back up apps just system data unacceptable for me. I will try downgrading cwm. Damn updates making things worse....
I am correct about twrp right,? I've done backup/restore and ended up with only same layout settings etc but not apps

In TWRP you have the option of what to backup:
* Boot
* Cache
* Data
* Recovery
* System
(so if you want everything, you need to select all the options)
If you want to stick with CWM, 6.0.3.2 works fine (but you can't use it for 4.4 ROMs), here's a link:
recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.2-m7--v2.img 7.2 MB

I use the new cwm on 4.4 as u see xda app thinks I'm on a gt but I'm on a m919 and cwm works just super slow thanks for links I may downgrade I love that cwm backs up my APPS on top of everything else. After I restore it literally is a mirror image of right before backup. I always make backup before new mods that req root
