Hey everyone...
ive already tried to get some quick help already but i really need my phone tonight LOL.
iam running cm9 rom with the latest cm9 stable kernal, now i wanted to flash the hydrocore kernal to see if battery would improve, but it seemed fine but then choppy afew hours later so i changed back to cm9 kernal. Anyway after it rebooted it stayed on the paranoid android bootscreen! where you see the picture loading. i then tried to wipe the cache and dalvik and its still stuck. someone mentioned to do a wipe but i was unsure if he meant to a full wipe? as ive not wiped the factory reset, just the two caches! ive also flashed both kernals back and forth and im still stuck.
Its a simple issue iam sure but could someone help me, im unsure if i should do a full wipe including factory reset or just flash the cm9 rom again. if so can i have instructions step by step...
thank you.
islandmixed, you are on a safe kernel so there is no harm in performing a wipe data/factory reset.

A full wipe worked, it rebooted. since iam weiry about restoring my apps again via mybackup pro i might just check all my apps installed from google and install them one by one and then that way i wont have to worry about anything going wrong. i do have a backup from TB and mybackup but someone said it can cause issues when restoring to a cm9 rom!
Thanks for the help. iam back again at the start HEHE.

Oh I got it now. But why would any stock apps install? If the new rom will have its own stock apps. I didn't even know TB backed up stock apps. That makes it confusing to me

You know when I wiped data would it have wiped off the gapps? I'm sure I had more rom apps with this....hmmmm
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
wipe data is totally wiping what's in your phone.. including what's inside the system/apps, build props and framework...
you may need to flash back your g.apps if you want to get all of them and selectively selecting which to install back(rather than just restoring it from TB)
TB does not restore all what you have made a backup to.

Okay then I guess the factory reset only deleted user apps then. I was told it deletes system apps which is why I thought it deleted gapps.

Running CM7RC
Decided to try one of the themes so I did a backup first using ROM Manager.
Didn't like the themes so I tried to restore.
It is coming up without my google account and there is no option to add it in the account settings.
I've wiped and reapplied the backup and also fixed permissions to no avail so far.
I'm finishing a 2nd fix permissions after wiping everything (even Davlik).
Has anyone ever had this happen to them? If so, what was the fix?
I'd rather get it restored than start over...
Restoring the account settings in Titanium doesn't help either.
I'm screwed, aren't I?
Do you have the Google apps installed (market, etc)?

Yes, happened to me many times when I flashed CM and forgot to flash gapps.
Download gapps-gb-20110120-signed.zip from here: http://goo-inside.me/google-apps/ and flash from recovery.
Did you use clockworkmod 3.0? It's been known to messed things up during nandroid restore.
Flash GAPPS like other have mentioned.
If not full wipe and start over, use AMon Ra or an older CWM version

Yeah, they were there when I restored the backup but they wouldn't open because there was no google account in the phone. Could flashing gapps fix this?

Yes, it is cwm 3.0
For now I've done a full wipe and started over and after a couple of days of tweaking I'll likely forget the incident. I might try restoring and flashing gapps but I have my doubts as to whether that would work.
I'm going to have to start being more vigilant about backing up apps/settings/data in other ways if a nandroid backup isn't dependable...
Thanks for the comments.
OK, I just flashed RC2 and the account issue popped back up so it isn't necessarily that backup I did before.

Ok, so I have a rooted Nexus One with cyanogen 6.0rc3 on it. I recently tried to put cyanogen 6.1 on it so I could upgrade to 7.0. Then, I see the common glitch where there is no market so I revert back to my old rom which I made a backup for(using ROM Manager). So here comes the hard part, when it restores my ROM, have no apps, no nothing which I downloaded, and I tried to restore again, because ROM Manager reinstalled, but I didn't get anything. Can some tell me how to get my data and all my stuff back, please?!?!?!?! If I don't get help by the end of the month, my service gets cut off, so I really need help!!!! Please help guys, thanks in advance, you guys are the bomb!!!!

What's that supposed to mean? You lose service because you don't have the data on your phone restored?
Are you using apps2sd?
I feel like you have no chance of restoring anything at the moment though.
If you have a custom recovery, just wipe and start again, or restore your backup... Make sure you have a gapps package that is compatible with your ROM...

All your apps will be in the market under 'my apps' and as long as you have synched with Google servers all your data should be retrieveable by re-synching.

You don't need to go to cm6.1 to get to cm7. Even on 6.1 you need to do a full wipe anyway to eliminate any potential problems.
Also did you happen to use CWM 3.0?

After flashing some new roms lately, I've been unable to restore my user apps with data, or else the apps will force close (weirdly, some apps work okay with a data restore, but the vast majority will fc). Also, when trying to restore back to my old rom (AOKP) via Nandroid, I get an error saying cannot mount /data, stopping the process. I tried deleting all my backups, making new ones, flashing stock, and yes I follow the OP exactly. I wanted to see if anyone has ever had this issue either on this ROM or another one. Any help appreciated, thanks.
To restore a Nandroid, you actually have to flash the rom first, then after it fully boots up restore your Nandroid. As for Apps and data, try restoring the apps first, rebooting, then restoring the data.
Referring to your app restore suggestion. That doesn't work. I've tried it
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA
Then i don't what else to suggest. You tried downloading apps fresh, then restoring your backed up data?
Common issue for me. Just wipe data first and it should work. No need to flash the ROM

Use TiBu instead of Nandroid. Only had issue with porting my WiFi settings from GB to ICS.
But in general restoring apps with settings and data is a pain. That prevents me from becoming flash junkie.
I understand your concern with using nandroid. That was just a side statement. The issue is restoring USER apps with data. Why is this occurring now when it has never occurred before

Sorry, sorry. I was specifically referring to the nandroid backup issue. IF while restoring, you can't get past "Cannot mount /data!", THEN wipe data, and continue restoring data by doing advanced restore from there (so you don't have to restore /boot and /system again...)

Ah okay. Thanks for the tip.
So no one has any idea what's the cause of this. Everyone who has come across this issue, including myself, seem to have no clue how to fix it. There's basically an exact same q&a thread on vibrant forums with the same issue and there's like 5 people there who cannot figure out why

What happens if you dl from market without restoring data? Still get fc's?
without restoring data? No FC. After restoring data, FC.
Hey Mikel I just flashed Docs Master v11 which just came out. For the first time in a long time I did not have the app f/c problem at all. Everything ran fine right from TIBU restore.
I flashed this ROM exactly the same way as I've flashed the last few AOKP roms. Hmmmm..

I hate it when all apps are removed to change ROM. I want to try Nik's JB and I dont want apps to be removed whatsapp....
try Ultimate Backup Tool for non-rooted and Titanium Backup for rooted
In this case it should be enough to do a nandroid backup. You can test JB and if you finished testing, you just restore your old stuff. The JB ROM is amazing but it's not a daily driver yet so it's kinda needless to install all your apps on it
I backed some using titanium but how how to restore them?
What about the backup and and restore on the recovery? What is that used for?

After backing up with titanium on your old rom
Download titanium on your new rom and you can re-install, but beware that restoring data from different roms may cause FC's
Can you set Titanium to only restore the apks, no data and cache? That should avoid most issues I suppose?
The interface is a little ... busy... so I havent really given it a go yet.

Yep. What I usually do, is go on the batch section click restore app, and choose app only. And then use app+data for my games, so I don't lose my scores and saves.
You could always restore the data partition from your old ROMs nandroid backup. Works for me.
For rooted phone, I'd suggest Go Backup.
Titanium Backup is much more powerful, but some essential features, like batch backup/restore, require paid version. And it loads pretty slowly on my Incredible S.
Go Backup offers backing up both apps and their data, as well as SMS/call log/contacts/wi-fi access points. Go dev team has recently added backup merging feature, which works fine either.
Today I installed 4.1.1-based ROM from Nikhil, downloaded Go Backup from the Market, ran backup restoration and voila, in 5 minutes I got all my apps back, including paid ones.
This app is constantly being updated, which is also a weighty argument (at least for me).

Is it really the same restoring an app from a backup as from Google play? Market links work and the app is registered by the os, integrated into the share menu (facebook for instance) and so on?
Just trying to learn how android works... Something like that would never work in windows, registry entries would probably break...

nandroid is the backup/restore function in you recovery A nandroid backup will save your COMPLETE ROM with all apps, data and everything else. After a backup you can install whatever you want on your phone and install new things, whatever. And if you had enough, you can restore your backup and your entire phone will be just like when you did the backup It's also a great method to switch between ROMs for example your daily driver (let's say ProjectX) and JB Evolution You can configure both ROMs like you want it, do backups and switch between them The process of backing up/restoring a ROM takes about 5min.
I hope this answered all your questions
Yup I tried this one today but I didnt know it was called nandroid. Thanks

How about when the charger is connected? It may be your battery that is screwed up. Or maybe some rogue app that is consuming your resources.
