[Q] cannot obtain IP address.. autonooter 3 + iphone - Nook Color General

Hi everyone.. I'm really hoping you can help me with this final issue to get my color nook up and running. I am running a rooted nook (autonooter) with the ad-hoc workaround installed. The machine can find and see the ad-hock network that I setup using my iphone with mywi 4.11.2 (no wpa setup).
The nook attempts to connect to it and gets stuck obtaining the IP address - nothing I have done (reboot, toggle wifi, etc) allows it to connect successfully. I am able to connect other machine (netbook/ipad) to the iphone so I know it is broadcasting/connecting ok... also, I can establish a connection on the nook to other wireless networks.
I'm about at my wits end as this is the final piece I need to get things rolling... any thoughts/ideas, etc?
Thx!!

Never mind... I fixed it by installing the 4.50.6 version of Mywi on the phone.. works like a charm now! Thx!

Dears,
I just finished to setup my laptop to be an AccessPoint for my nexus.
I did this creating a new ad-hoc wireless connection.
It works! ...for browsing websites
does not work for market or app web connection...
I configured proxy settings to enable websites browsing.
If I try change proxy settings on my phone, obviously websites browsing stops.
Note I'm inside an office network now and I cannot change or control about network setups.
any idea why android market does not work with my setup?
does market need some "special ports" opened?
help me please....
Just download connectify. It's a program that makes your computer a WiFi hotspot. I use it to get internet on my x 10, and it works flawlessly

eh......
I already tried... bit my network card is not supported by connectify...
The same with VirtualRouter.
The only way I has some success is as described before (ad-hoc network).
Please help me with that market issue...
Could it be that it's blocked by your company? Like can you go to youtube on your pc?
Like i understand you are using proxy to connect the net so http is allowd and all the others are closed.
correct: proxy is only working for http access.
I have troubles also with google sync, gmail, youtube, market etc...
I'm only able to surf the web via browser.
Note that wih my notebook I have access to all youtube... so cannot understand why it works whit notebook but does not work with nexusOne...
maybe notebook and nexus use different protocols or services that are closed by the proxy.
Any idea to make my ad-hoc network fully open?
I'm having trouble getting connectify to work... it loads up and runs fine on my Win7 x64 laptop, but when I try to connect with the N1 it appears to be eternally stuck at the "Obtaining IP Address" stage before it finally times out and the network state is reported as "Unsuccessful". I've tried both pulling the IP from DHCP and manually specifying a static IP address on the correct network, and I have attempted running both Android 2.1 and 2.2.
Even when specifying a static IP, I still get the "Obtaining address..." status before it fails out.
Any thoughts?
for me too: both with ad-hoc connection, Connectify (@home) or VirtualRouter (@home) I have same issue than you.
Sometimes n1 connects the wireless network with no problems, other times it dont connect the network... Dont know the reason. Only I saw that if you delete the ad-hoc network and create a new one it works... It's boring, I know... but works..
also I saw that @home connecting in same mode than in office I was able to navigate market, youtube and all other programs that need an internet connection .
This to confirm that the problem I'm having @office is caused by some LAN restrictions (filters, firewalls and something like this)
Cool, I'll give that a go when I get off work I suppose. I've only got about another week or so here in Afghanistan, but while I'm here the only accessible internet is a wifi access point that passes through a fairly restrictive firewall/proxy before hitting the satellite internet. I'm able to bypass the firewall and proxy if I use an ethernet connection on my laptop (luck of the draw: my room in the tent is the one with all the networking gear ), and was hoping I could use this Connectify or VirtualRouter business to then extend that internet offering to my N1. So far, no luck. Maybe I'll fight with it some more tonight and get somewhere with it.
Off-topic: How's Padova this time of year? I spent about three months up in Aviano back at the end of last summer and fall... absolutely gorgeous country.
Maybe is useful for you to knwo ho I'm able to surf web using browser on my N1 (using win7).
3 modes:
- ad-hoc network (pc-to-n1) directly from network control center of win7
- connectify (using a virtual access point)
- virtual router (same as connectify)
@ home: LAN without filters or restrictions. I'm able to surf web, use youtube player, market etc.
@ work: LAN with filters and restrictions. I'm able to surf web only.
These are my tests. I hope you will have more luck than me.
OT: Padova is great in this period. Weather is hot (25-28°), summer is starting. Unfortunatly in these days we have some rain but our "sunny season" is already started.
I know Aviano, there's a US militay base. Are you a soldier? I'm a fan of the "soldiers world" (I played for a long time a free online game called "America's Army" )
Sorry for OT

Thanks for the info
And no, I'm not a soldier, but I work as a civilian geek/technician/engineer for a US defense contractor that builds air/battlespace control systems - like a glorified Air Traffic Control. I get sent for a few months at a time to different locations that we have our systems to support the soldiers and airmen who use them.
Needless to say, Aviano has been the best assignment yet

If you can use everything @home this isn't a fault of your setup. everything gets blocked by the proxy server. if you really want it you have to talk with the administrator, i really doubt that he will do changes to please you.
for now i think it's impossible to use them.
ok... thanks for the bad news...

I have the same problem (ok, with a Desire). No IP obtained. OS is Win7/64 too.
Did you have any success in the meantime?
I think the market actually uses https:// ... is that set up as well? Even if it is, the phone might reject it because of redirecting certificate issues...
You're probably better off setting up a VPN on your home machine, or some server outside the network. Then VPN to that on your phone for open access (Of course u can buy vpn accounts from various companies too.)
What kind of proxy is it? Socks? http? remember most don't support UDP, and may only support port http or https.
How do you get N1 to see ad-hoc wifi? I tried but wasn't able to using stock froyo...
Heeeeeeeeeelp please!!!
i have installed connectify and the virtual router on my win7 laptop.
i can connect to the new wireless networks created by these softwares but I can't browse the web (no data is received in my Nexus one)
can you please help me?

NC Strange Network Problems

Hi Folks,
I just got a Nook Color for xmas and I am seeing some very odd issues when I try to connect to my home wireless network. I am seeing the issue when it tells me it's "Connected, but no internet". The odd thing I am seeing is that it seems to be stuck trying to use the same IP and default gateway no matter what I do. I have a Belkin router and it was using WEP. The device was assigned an IP of 192.168.2.36 and it worked for a little bit. Then it stopped working. I tried changing it to WPA2 and still no luck. Figuring it was my router I bought a new one. I created a new wireless network with a new name and new subnet of 192.168.5.0/28 and STILL when the nook connects to this network it tries to use the IP 192.168.2.36. I put the network back to 192.168.2.0/28 and still it does not work. I setup the Belkin again as a wireless access point and made it open with no security with a totally different network SSID and it still wants to use this IP address. I connected to the nook with adb shell and tried ipconfig, netcfg, setting default route etc all with no luck. At some point during this process I rebooted it 8 times and flashed back to 1.0.0 firmware, wiped the /data directory and it STILL tries to use the 192.168.2.36 IP address. I am at a loss as to what to try at this point. The odd thing is I can connect to my neighbors open access point which is using 192.168.1.0/28 as its subnet and the NC works. Any suggestions anyone could provide would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Wifi not connecting to infrastructure network (802.11x)

Hey guys, so here at PITT, the school runs a 802.11x infrastructure wifi network, and I cannot connect.
I am running HC v4. When I go into WIFI, the Nook will see the network. Then when I put in PEAP, my username, and password, nothing happens. I just hit "connect" and the nook does nothing. It is like it does not remember the settings I just put in.
It connects fine to the adhoc network on my phone (tether). Also, it connected to PITTnet fine before when just rooted, and with nookie froyo.
I tried doing this (with slightly different settings): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974689&highlight=wifi
But it did not work. It is like the Nook sees the network, but just refuses to do anything with it.
Any ideas? Thanks.
I connect to an 802.11x network here @ work, and my recommendation is to hop on the market on another wifi connection, and download "Wifi ACE" to facilitate editing the config easier. If you can't download from market but have ADB working, you could manually install the .apk from here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-ace/
I will tell you - I've had spotty capability to access this network using HC v4, internal eMMC build v2. I have 100% success using Nookie Froyo and Phiremod, by comparison, using the exact same settings - I manually saved off the wpa_supplicant.conf file between installs. I experience the same symptom you do, I see the network fine, just refuses to connect.
Think we're just stuck till AOSP releases and we get a new version of HC on the NC.
Same as you, any other WiFi network connects with ease. It is just the 802.11x network I have problems with. It worked for me on HC eMMC v1 though, so if you haven't tried that give it a shot.

Wireless will not connect (secure) on Cyanogen?

Good evening all !
I recently started experimenting with Android on my Nook Color. The Nook Color is running 1.4.1, I followed all the instructions to run it from my SD Card, which seems to work fine. The problem I have is connecting to my wireless router. I have managed to connect to an unsecured router (A random one that showed up) and it works fine. I have unchecked uPnP, and I have three laptops, Xbox360, PS3, WII, you name it and it connects just fine after entering the password. It is currently WEP. It attempts to obtain an IP address, then says connecting, and starts the process all over again. As I have said, I am running it from an SD Card and it seems fine, except for the wireless. I was able to connect to the Android Market, etc. I was just playing around with it and have discovered this issue. Any ideas out there? I would greatly appreciate any tips. I have restarted the router, even tried clearing it out in the terminal (I found somewhere else, for the airplane mode, the icon shows all the time)............
Nevermind everyone..got it....wrong freaking key..changed while i was deployed

have you tried rebooting your router?
Hi,
Have rebooted router and still no good. Yesterday my Note connected to WiFi at work No probs. Got home and it got stuck on obtaining IP. Today get to work and my Note will Not connect to work WiFi now either Same prob stuck at obtaining IP have restarted the work router also still no help. Had a look round seems to be a problem on the Galaxy SII also. Just for info I have not added any new apps for days.. must be the phone buy why?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Lets try this:
Check whether your laptop can get an IP from your wifi.
I. YES
- Turn on wifi on your note.
- Go to Applications -> Settings -> Wifi settings.
- Look down at Wifi network.
- Touch into the name of your wifi then choose "Forget network".
- Turn off wifi on your note.
- Turn it on again.
- Enter the key and see what's happen.
II. NO
- Check your router configuration.
If you hav have enabled mac protection on router, reset it.

Hi,
Laptops x3 and other peoples phones can get onto WiFi ok, both at work and at home, my Note Will connect ok to the BTFON / BTOpenzone (off of the same routers) with no problems again both at work and at home. We have changed nothing with the routers (BTHome hub 2 and BTBusiness hub at work).
Can you advise what to check with the router as all seems to be in order for all other WiFi devices, it's just my Note that is having a fit and wont connect?
Many Thanks
S

Hi, Re mac protection, the routers auto set up and I am unaware how to check re mac protection. I cant understand why has my Note decided to stop connecting out of the blue?
I have similar issues.
I have setup a WIFI hotspot and all my non-Android devices can login without any issues (Notebooks x2, iphone3, iphone4, ipad), however my Note and my Blade (all running 2.3.6) and an Acer A500 Tablet (running Android 3.1) cannot connect.
The android devices see the hotspot and will attempt to get an IP, but most of the time will not succeed.
Any suggestions?
I'm having the same problem with the "stuck at obtaning IP address" problem.
Just got my Note 2 weeks ago and am still not able to connect to the internet using wifi.
I can't connect to my home wifi nor starbucks nor any other public wifi. When i use static address, i was able to connect to my home wifi BUT could not use the internet. I really do not know what to do...PLEASE HELP!!!
I too have experienced this. Running stock 2.3.6 + root. happened with lots of different routers. Usually solved with power cycling router & note wifi. Very annoying.
I think (personally), it has nothing to do with the Note at all, BUT on most samsung smartphones...
I read somewhere that Sammy's phones have a weak side in detecting and connecting to any wifi device...
I personally tested this also with my Note, side by side with my friend's Nokia, a Blackberry and a Galaxy Nexus as well.. both Samsung phones stucked at "Obtaining IP address..." for some time, while the two phones (Nokia and the blackberry) connected thru wifi with ease... no problems at all..
I have same problem periodically at my sister's house, especially when a lot of other mobile devices using the router. If you google the issue there are many with same problem.
Simplest way to solve it for me has been to unplug & then plug the router back in. Rather annoying.
I had same prob with my galaxy tab... Forgetting a network won't help..
Nor there is fault of router...
Google this problem you will find results with solutions for xda only... (did the same but don't remember the link)
Al t bst!!
