[Q] SGS doesn't recognizing by USB - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

3 days ago i flashed my sgs with Ultibread v1.3
Today i decided to flash back 2.2.1 firmware, but all of my 3 computers (10 usb ports) couldn't recognize my phone.
Try to search any solve of this problem, but no one tutorial has not helped.
What did i do?
uninstall all of samsung usb drivers
clean register of all garbage with "samsung"
reboot my computer 3 times
download latest samsung usb drivers v1.3.2000.0 (25.jan.2011)
get out battery for 15 minutes
try plug in other usb port
take computer, wich never connected my phone, install latest drivers (see previous step) and connect sgs to him...
In all cases, the result is one: Unknown USB Device.
System can load and "debug mode" switched on.
Please, help me...

My PC forgets my SGS on a regular basis. When I plug the USB into my phone it is usually a good 50/50 if it recognizes it.
I have found the best way to deal with it is to reboot the phone while it is still connected by USB to the PC. When the phone comes back up with the USB connected, the PC always discovers it right away.
Also avoid connected through a USB hub if possible, that always gives me trouble.

Omg! Solved.
Ultibread v1.3 and, maybe, 1.4 got issue with check in debug usb mode.
And without this check - windows can't recognize phone.
Solution:
turn on debug usb mode in settings, then put out battery when phone is ON.
Then you can get in download mode.
Case closed

[Q] (Q) Hardbricked phone and usb doesnt work

It all started when my phone didnt connect to the pc with my own microusb cable anymore. After lots of reinstalling drivers i tried another usb port, now the phone did connect. In a rush i started up odin to flash standard firmware so i could get my warranty for the usb failure. Then during the flash the phone lost connection again and hardbricked. I can only get it to download mode but the phone has the usb problems mentioned before again, i cant connect to odin/kies/pc. all pc's told me that the usb driver could not be installed
try removing all usb drivers with usbdeview, make sure that KIES aint running in the background, boot phone into downloadmode, connect is and as soon as you'll see the yellow com-port sign; hit start (with the proper .tar files at pda/phone/csc).
only one way to find out =/
Thanks for the help but the problem is that the yellow com-port sign wont come because the device isn't recognized.
You have download mode but no USB .
Remove existing KIES and all USB drivers reboot reinstall KIES and try .
Not work try on a different PC .
But unless you have fixed the initial error you are wasting your time .
Initial Error you said >>>It all started when my phone didnt connect to the pc with my own >>>>> microusb cable <<<<<<<<<<<<< anymore
jje
Tried another cable and another computer, still no connection. I think probably an internal failure in the phones motherboard?

[Q] Unable to connect to PC

Hello
I have Froyo 2.2 I9000JXJPB
I used to be able to connect to PC but not any more. Im using Windows 7 64
I even tried and restored my laptop for factory condition and wiped out my galaxy.
Sometime when I connect the phone with the usb cable and PC would say unrecognized peripheral device and most of the times nothing happenes
it does not help if USB debug is checked or not
I even tried different usb ports in the laptop but nothing work
its driving me crazy
need help please
ok, put the phone in download mode and then connect it, try a USB port that connects direct to the motherboard, usually at the back of the tower.
also if that fails, try to uninstall kies and then re install it, that will re install the drivers.
then post back with the result.
EDIT: just realised your on a laptop not pc

Before postig my question I tired uninstalling and reinstalling kies. also tried driver reinstall option from kies
I downloaded the driver separately tried installing several times but it did not help...
Installation always endup with a message Device driver was not successfully installed
Unknown device device unplugged
Unindentified device device unplugged
If i recall correctly my problems maybe was with the last update with kies
if you go into computer > device manager and then select on the 'unidentified driver' you can select uninstall.
then start the process again, and also try installing it for the 2nd time with a different port.

[Q] Phone semi bricked and unknown device in download mode

Hey all,
I've got a problem related to my Micro USB port (at least I think it is).
[Long story]
I've got a very annoying issue right now. Today I flashed Team ICSSGS RC4.1. Later when I connected my Galaxy S to my PC with the usb cable, no recharging icon appeared and my pc did not react to the connection at all.
Thinking it was a bug in RC4.1 (as OneCosmic RC 2.3 had the mass storage issue) I searched the ICSSGS thread, but not a single issue about mass storage mode was posted. So I flashed Devil kernel, hoping to fix it, but it didn't. Reflashed RC4.1, but problem still persisted.
I went radical and recovered a nandroid backup in CWM of ICSSGS RC3.0 (the one is was running earlier today), but somehow the recovery failed and left me with a semi-bricked phone. (Actually the 2nd time in a row when recovery semi-bricked my phone.)
Only download mode works. Recovery and normal boot bootloop.
[/Long story]
In short:
When connecting to PC to flash with Odin:
-At first the PC did not even notice the phone being connected through USB. Nothing happens.
-After blowing in the contacts of the Micro USB port, PC recognizes connection, but gives "Unknown device" error upon connecting. Reinstalling Samsung drivers does not work at all. Tested on laptop and home PC.
-Somehow I always have to blow into the Micro USB port to create contact and to get the PC to recognize a connection. But that's about it. "Unknown device" every time.
-When I plug in wall charger, the big battery icon appears, but stays grey all the time and after half a minute the phone boots, starting the bootloop.
Could it be that my Micro USB port is broken?
Any solution for this?
Thanks in advance!
I feel so stupid for recovering that nandroid backup. Otherwise my phone would still be working...
you will need the nexus drivers for your comp found here : w w w.multiupload.co.uk/BUCFT8M42 as your samsung drivers are no use now.
Thanks for your advice: Going to test it right away.
Unfortunately your link does not work for me.
I had the same problem but replacing the cable solved it.
Sorry for the duff link http://www.multiupload.co.uk/BUCFT8M42N

Tested this morning with someone else's cable, still the same issue.
Tried the Nexus driver, but still nothing. Also having troubles again to let the usb connection register. It connected after cleaning it, but now it does not seem to connect at all.
Could it be that the phone is completely busted and therefor breaks usb connection?
Haven't heard such a story yet, but is it possible?
I've got it sorted out.
Since it might be helpful for others that are searching for a solution:
1. I cleaned out my Micro-USB port using micro interdental brushes and a few drops of isopropyl alcohol. It also doesn't hurt to clean the contacts of your USB cable, just to be sure.
2. Connected the phone to my PC. This time my pc recognized it as a serial gadget.
3. Disconnected the phone and installed Nexus S driver (because of ICS rom on my Galaxy S)
Next connection my device was automatically recognized as an android phone.
Odin saw my phone as well and I could flash again!
My phone is back on Team ICSSGS RC4.2.
Thanks everyone for helping!
Same Issue cant fix
Hey guys im glad to see others are having the same issue but i cant seem to fix mine.
Assume im an idiot and ive missed something out but ill explain my situation....
Galaxy i9000 - windows 7 32bit - put ics on it a few weeks back following a guide on youtube (had never used odin or anything like that before) got it working but now have no usb comm options in the ics settings. now when i plug the usb (when it does detect at all) it says driver havent worked - device manager shows unknown device - i try update the driver and it says the best driver is already installed.
Im completely stuck and want to revert back to gingerbread so i can use my usb functions again. If i can get odin to see my phone again ill be relieved.
Any ideas?
Cheers guys! Seán.

But most of all, check your usb cable and try switching to another USB port after rebooting your PC

HELP! Having issues returning to stock rom

Ok So was running my custom rom and decided to return it to stock. PC odin keeps saying fail when I try to flash standard ICS Rom and then whenever I try to retry it my PC keeps saying USB Device is not recognized?? I uninstalled Samsung Kies and Samsung USB driver and reinstalled but still have the same problem?
My phone can get into download mode and also if I simply try to turn it on its says Firmware Upgrade encountered an issue, Please select recovery mode and try in Kies & try again.
The standard rom I am trying to flash is called: N7000XXLQ2_N7000XXLPT_N7000XEULP4_HOME.tar.md5
And the version of PC Odin is Odin3 v3.04
Can anyone help as I am stuk at work without a phone
Forgot to say when I put it in download mode and connect the usb cable I get a pop up on my pc saying USB Device is not recognized.
it is due to bad usb connection
1 change usb cable.. may b it getting shorting inside ,, on rx tx
2 change usb port. do not relay on front cabinate usb if you are not using laptop.. use on board usb
after this two things should change or your motherboard is not producing enough power for device
try on another pc.. ofcourse of frend..

USB connection dialogue not showing up, unable to connect

I have a very weird issue with my S10: it wont connect via usb to pc. Once connected a notification should display and the option "file transfer" should be there, but no such menu appears. When i plug it in to a pc it just starts charging, the pc also does not see a (bad) usb connection or whatever. I have been reading fora and watching youtube for over 1,5 hours. I feel now is the time to ask for help.
What might be usefull context: i have had the "moisture detected" error many times, it started showing up 2 weeks after i bought the device. Gladly i mainly use wireless charging so effectively it hasnt bothered me much, but it was weird since even after waiting for hours for the phone to dry (i dont think it was wet but whatever) the error was still there. One week ago the problem got quite severe, lasted for more than 24 hours and it just refused to charge, tried rebooting, turning it off, going into safe mode... to no avail. I had no wireless charger then, it was nasty.
I am using the usb cable provided by samsung (but used two others as well).
What i tried:
wiping cache and data from usb settings
wiping cache via recovery
reinstalling samsung drivers to pc
looking for a yellow exclamation mark in device manager on pc (not there)
different usb cables
different pc's
different ports on pc
rebooting the phone
booting in safe mode
installed dex on pc
via developper mode select file transfer as standard
via developper mode select any of the other modes to see if that helps
via developper mode revoked usb debugging authorizations
via developper mode enable usb debugging
The next logical step seems a factory reset. I am unwilling to do that however, since there are many gigs of photo's on the device that i want to backup first (the whole point of trying to connect it via usb heheh).
Your advice please!
Your could try to reflash your present OS via Odin but when doing so remember to use HOME_CSC. This way your data will be present when done flashing and phone reboots.

How he can do the flash with odin when phone is not recognized by the computer !
Clean the charging port with a clean toothbrush and try again ... Also make sure that the charging cable supports data transfer ... If you tried all of these things and did not work, then most likely the charging port has a problem that may be oxidized or cut in the tracks..Try the solution that I gave it to you, and if it doesn't work, take it to a technician
charge from the wall.
I too have a similar predicament. Tried all the cables and USB ports I could get my hands on... I have a custom ROM also, so it could be that. I have done a full format and reflashed ROM (from SD card) - but it made no difference, the phone refuses to communicate via USB.
SO, if you have any solutions, please let me know!
I can however communicate via ADB over network. So, if you know some adb commands you can pull over an entire folder with the "adb pull" command.
