1. If you are not careful, you could flash a new firmware and brick your phone. Not all firmwares work on all phones. New firmwares will be made available via official microsoft updates. I`d recommend you don`t try and flash new firmwares yourself manually unless you know exactly what youre doing.
2. Not without jailbreaking your phone. Look at Chevron WP7.
3. Phones are "branded" with their carriers logo i.e. tmobile. You`ll see that in the splash screen when you reboot your phone. Its completley normal.
4. See 3. If you buy a sim free phone (i.e. not via a carrier) then it will be unbranded. they function in exactly the same way as branded phones, just without the carriers splash screen at bootup.
5. No. Wp7 doesn`t allow the shell to be replaced like in WM 6.5
6. tmous=keyboard layout, telstra=carrier ,Schubert=code name for HD7, CID (carrier id?).
you sound like someone who likes to "play". Be careful and remember that if it aint broke, don`t fix it. Flashing new firmwares can be dangerous and potentially kill your phone. You are much better off waiting for official MS updates.
1.Not sure about it, I use T-Mobile in Asia with flash unbrand rom (Europe 1.60.401.01 - Radio 5.52.09.16 22.33a.50.10U) it's work like charm and os can be update to 7.0.7008.
2.Use Tom XAP Installer or Windows Phone deployment with Chevron unlock tool.
3.Brand mean that phone is come from carrier with carrier operator logo.
4.Brand rom will be customize something like radio channel frequency to made it compatible with their carrier.
5.MS not allow any OEM to customize their OS ,so.. we can't see sense on HD7 right now yet.
6.Go to visit HD7 Windows Phone 7 Development section ,that's good for you to start.
thanks to you my friends

Hi, I am trying to find a link to the stock 2.2.1 for uk, I am on o2 2.2 but i would like the unbranded version so i can upgrade, can anyone point me in the right direction with instructions for a noob. many thanks
Forgot to mention its locked to o2, I have tried the unlock tools and they dont work on my SGS
I think you will need to unlock first as it will ask for an unlock code if you want to use it on another network. It may even ask for it just because it is not the O2 rom (I could be wrong)
can you suggest some other ways to try to unlock it, it is rooted and I have tried the unlock apps from the market also the way when you connect your phone to your pc and run a program but i forget whats its called it just said it couldnt find the code, also is it possible to lock it again if i needed to for warranty
If you install stock then in theory you have broken your warranty as its not your network supplied firmware its the basic firmware supplied by Samsung to the network .
You will have no future updates from O2 if you are not using the O2 firmware .
You sure its locked most SGS from O2 UK are unlocked .
Personally i would use the Rom Kitchin to install different rom and build my own .

I bought SGS that was unlocked from orange (UK) then sold in another country (mine)...
1. Does unlocking procedure include rooting?
2. Is this prohibits me from getting official update through Kies?
A simple yes/no will do, although if u answer no plz help me out and explain
(had a hd2 before this one, did some rom flashing.., never did unlocking though)
Unlocked and rooted are two different things and neither should affect kies offering an update.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
hopr this helps!!

1.No..(flash via odin to some unlocked firmware)
2.It depends..(ie) if for the previous problem, you flash a firmware not from your region then no your kies wont be able to give you an official update.. so download a region specific firmware( for ex dd means india, dx means singapore. find ur region code). Instead of this i'd suggest you to go to samfirmware.com and get the best rom.
thank you for replies
i found out my firmware is I9000XWJV1 which could also be found in official sources, so i supose it should be available for me to use official updates...
still is there a way for me to know if the phone is with stock/retail firmware or its rooted with a rom thats just almost as stock?
sry if i may sound silly at any point, im new to samsung rooting and stuff
kies says:
"This version of your device cannot be updated.
Current firmware version DA:JV1 / PHONE:JVE?CSC:J
Can you tell me if it means i wont get updates ever, or just couse now its not available?
Nevermind, i found uot myself.. google almighty =)
Hi
I have bought a used HTC HD7 for about $330 in India. I love this phone, its so cool.
It shows O2 splash screen when it starts. I am using Vodafone Indian sim.
OS Ver: 7.0.7392.0
FW: 2250.09.16901.206
My questions:
1. How can I check if my phone was unlocked by Chevron or something else?
2. If I update my phone via Zune, will it re-lock again?
3. Any possibility to disable the 'Bing Search' button on the phone or reassign it with another app?
Thanks
Mani

I dont think that OS version can be unlocked but its mad easy to unlock it go to the hd7 forum flash a pre NODO rom there should be instructions on the post then go to the how to chevron unlock forum do that and it also tells you how to prevent relocking so you can update back to NODO but when i update all teh way to the mango beta it relocks idk if this only happens to me tho
PLEASE-- someone tell me how can I know if my phone was unlocked by operator or jailbroken?
I bought it used from grey market. It shows O2 UK splash screen when it starts but is working fine on my Vodafone India sim. I can install apss from Zune too.
OS Ver: 7.0.7392.0
FW: 2250.09.16901.206
Thx

Jailbroken!=Unlock. You said it shows o2 uk splashscreen and yet your vodafone sim card works in it, so it is unlocked. You cannot unlock your phone with jailbreak, you can just sideload apps (chevron unlock)
2>Your phone will not relock if you update (If you are talking about network lock)
3>As of now, no
as far as i read this topic...
unlock is different from jailbreak....
ur phone isn't jailbreaked(chevroned)...but it's unlocked...
jailbreaking give u option to install cracked software and there is no need to install app just through market place...u can install apps through pc...(no market place...)
if u want to jailbreak ur phone u need to restore u phones ver to 7008...and then u can jailbreak it...(updating to 7392 will make ur jailbreak gone...)
Thanks rhn and mido-mido.
I am glad that my HD7 will not 'network re-lock' when it updates to Mango. Hoping to get Mango update soon.

Thanks but I would wait for the official update. I have had some bad experiences in the past with custom roms. My facebook and gmail accounts were hacked after I updated my Samsung phone with a custom rom last year.
So I stay away from them unless its too important.

Hello everyone I just bought an HTC One (Great device by the way) it's not available in my country so i had to buy it from france it's the 801n model and it was locked to Orange France carrier but i unlocked it to be used on any other carrier BUT i still have some built-in system apps from Orange that are really useless and I didn't receive the latest android 4.3 update so i Was wondering if there's a way to flash a "STOCK" firmware on my M7
thank u (i'm new to HTC stuff)
Here you can found the stock rom.
However, i advice you to put the phone in s-off if your hboot is 1.44 or wait the tool for the 1.54
Hello,
I bought a new HTC One (M7) in Switzerland for a Thai friend. When I turn on the phone, I can select a language in the list of the pull-down menu. The Thai language is missing in this list and I would to add this language.
1. Can I get the Thai language if I flash the phone with a firmware using ODIN?
2.a Which firmware should I use to get the Thai language, and where to download it? I would like to use the HTC official firmware, this one pre-installed in HTC One sold in Thailand.
2.b Same question for the Samsung Galaxy S4.
3. If I understood the guide below, a hard-reset* will not reset the phone to the original HTC firmware pre-installed on the phone when I bought it. Isn't it?
* After flashing the phone with another firmware.
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-meant-by-firmware-stock-custom-roms-and-flashing-guide/
Thanks in advance and regards.
ODIN? Is not that for Samsung? Not working with HTC.
But flashing a different ROM will solve your issue.
Point 3 is correct.
Though i don't think that official firmware for a different region can be flashed without modifying a couple of things in the phone. AFAIK you need S-OFF because of the CID and change it to a different one than current or to SuperCID.
CID stands for Customer ID. HTC implemented this check to prevent flashing other region firmwares. For example, if you have a phone which CID belongs to Singapore, you normally can't update ROM from other region like EURO/USA/CHINA etc. You've to use same region firmware. Remeber that, SIMLOCK is not related to CID, if you sim unlock a phone still you may not be able to flash other region ROM. But unlocking tools like XTC, HXC etc does CID unlock too as well as SIM unlock. To Determine your phone's CID I've made a small script. Download getcid.rar from attachment, extract, connect the phone to Computer in Fastboot Mode, run getcid.bat. It'll show phone's current CID.

In my opinion it's better to unlock the phone, flash custom recovery and flash a stock custom ROM (official).
I think WWE ROMs have Thai (see screenshot), if I'm correct.
