Hi, I am trying to find a link to the stock 2.2.1 for uk, I am on o2 2.2 but i would like the unbranded version so i can upgrade, can anyone point me in the right direction with instructions for a noob. many thanks
Forgot to mention its locked to o2, I have tried the unlock tools and they dont work on my SGS
I think you will need to unlock first as it will ask for an unlock code if you want to use it on another network. It may even ask for it just because it is not the O2 rom (I could be wrong)
can you suggest some other ways to try to unlock it, it is rooted and I have tried the unlock apps from the market also the way when you connect your phone to your pc and run a program but i forget whats its called it just said it couldnt find the code, also is it possible to lock it again if i needed to for warranty
If you install stock then in theory you have broken your warranty as its not your network supplied firmware its the basic firmware supplied by Samsung to the network .
You will have no future updates from O2 if you are not using the O2 firmware .
You sure its locked most SGS from O2 UK are unlocked .
Personally i would use the Rom Kitchin to install different rom and build my own .

1. If you are not careful, you could flash a new firmware and brick your phone. Not all firmwares work on all phones. New firmwares will be made available via official microsoft updates. I`d recommend you don`t try and flash new firmwares yourself manually unless you know exactly what youre doing.
2. Not without jailbreaking your phone. Look at Chevron WP7.
3. Phones are "branded" with their carriers logo i.e. tmobile. You`ll see that in the splash screen when you reboot your phone. Its completley normal.
4. See 3. If you buy a sim free phone (i.e. not via a carrier) then it will be unbranded. they function in exactly the same way as branded phones, just without the carriers splash screen at bootup.
5. No. Wp7 doesn`t allow the shell to be replaced like in WM 6.5
6. tmous=keyboard layout, telstra=carrier ,Schubert=code name for HD7, CID (carrier id?).
you sound like someone who likes to "play". Be careful and remember that if it aint broke, don`t fix it. Flashing new firmwares can be dangerous and potentially kill your phone. You are much better off waiting for official MS updates.
1.Not sure about it, I use T-Mobile in Asia with flash unbrand rom (Europe 1.60.401.01 - Radio 5.52.09.16 22.33a.50.10U) it's work like charm and os can be update to 7.0.7008.
2.Use Tom XAP Installer or Windows Phone deployment with Chevron unlock tool.
3.Brand mean that phone is come from carrier with carrier operator logo.
4.Brand rom will be customize something like radio channel frequency to made it compatible with their carrier.
5.MS not allow any OEM to customize their OS ,so.. we can't see sense on HD7 right now yet.
6.Go to visit HD7 Windows Phone 7 Development section ,that's good for you to start.
thanks to you my friends
I've heard that Voda is providing 2.3 update for SGS.
Which version (product code) should i be on (or spoof) in order
to get Gingerbread on my phone ?
Originally bought on ebay factory sealed, T-Mobile branded,
(Designated for use in UK), then registry spoofed and flashed
to Froyo. Dont have original rom nor info (versions and prod#).
Bought and use it in UK.
Phone as it stands now is
I9000HKDKOR
PDA XXJPY
Phone XAJPY
CSC XXJPY
P.S. The phone currently is on Vodafone network.
if you have an unlocked phone, with just a vodafone sim you wont get the update from them, The phone has to have vodafone branded firmware in order for kies to update it.
why would you want to keep vodafone firmware ? its full of bloatware,
head over to www.samfirmware.com and register for free, download Gingerbread and follow instructions.
the whole process will take less than 30min
I bought SGS that was unlocked from orange (UK) then sold in another country (mine)...
1. Does unlocking procedure include rooting?
2. Is this prohibits me from getting official update through Kies?
A simple yes/no will do, although if u answer no plz help me out and explain
(had a hd2 before this one, did some rom flashing.., never did unlocking though)
Unlocked and rooted are two different things and neither should affect kies offering an update.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
hopr this helps!!

1.No..(flash via odin to some unlocked firmware)
2.It depends..(ie) if for the previous problem, you flash a firmware not from your region then no your kies wont be able to give you an official update.. so download a region specific firmware( for ex dd means india, dx means singapore. find ur region code). Instead of this i'd suggest you to go to samfirmware.com and get the best rom.
thank you for replies
i found out my firmware is I9000XWJV1 which could also be found in official sources, so i supose it should be available for me to use official updates...
still is there a way for me to know if the phone is with stock/retail firmware or its rooted with a rom thats just almost as stock?
sry if i may sound silly at any point, im new to samsung rooting and stuff
kies says:
"This version of your device cannot be updated.
Current firmware version DA:JV1 / PHONE:JVE?CSC:J
Can you tell me if it means i wont get updates ever, or just couse now its not available?
Nevermind, i found uot myself.. google almighty =)
Got an unrooted o2 galalxy s. Got a official unlock code from O2, but appears to be already unlocked as putting any sim (Tmobile. Orange, BTMobile) I am able to make and receive calls and it does not come up with the unlock screen to enter the code as per instructions.
Wanted to unlock as O2 has not upgraded to Android 2.3.6, which I have already upgraded to on another phone. However on Kies show I have latest firmware and does not give option to go to 2.3.6.
do not wan to root etc, but wondered How I get Kies to recognize its not tied to O2 and allow the 2.3.6 upgrade
Note the firmware Kies says is the latest ends with (O2U) which seem to be a O2 particular firmware. How do I get round this as seem not to be truly unlocked/unlinked form O2
I think it will always be viewed as an O2 phone by Kies as that's what it is. Unlocking it does not change the fact that it was an O2 phone and probably has O2 branding.

How can I rebrand it from O2U to XEU without rooting to putting in a custom ROM etc
would Kies reghack and spoofing to think it XEU work or is there a danger of "bricking it".
Not my phone ( mines as 2nd hand one which is has been put XEU by the seller , i Believe, so was able to upgrade to 2.3.6))so do not want to take nay chances. ( other than a very low risk option)
The easiest way is flashing a different firmware using Odin.
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25722239 to download the necessary stuff and just follow the instructions.
You should backup your data as it might get deleted.
If you just want a 2.3.6 firmware without rooting you can stop after finishing step 3.
don't you need to be rooted for Odin?
No you don't need root to use Odin.
Used Odin and updated OK. Kies does however now says the phone is not compatible with standard upgrades via Kies, think this is because the CSC is still O2U. So any future upgrades ( not expecting any from Samsung) will have to be done outside of Kies..
Thanks for the help.

Now when the officail kikkat is avialable to download i am damn confused about regions i should download from ..coz my PDA version and Csc version denote different regions !
So what i need is some expert advice on this as to what to do in this case when the PDA and CSC /Product code show different regions!? Should i change my csc, den how?n how do i know the correct csc for my device coz my PDA shws i have a multi csc ?(n i dont knw what was my csc before i rooted)

So are you having any problems? You can use different PDA(rom) and CSC(sales code) as long as they are from the same android version. It shouldn't matter otherwise. The baseband version will affect your reception and is region specific(ie. What may work well in one region may not work so well in another) If you want stock samsung firmware, the version you install will replace the PDA, CSC and baseband that you have now.

ahan i see ok hmm i sought of got u but still the doubt remains the same which regions firmware should i download now?
My baseband and IMEI denote germany (unlike my CSC which denotes ireland) so should i download the kikkat version for germany or ireland? i reside in UAE so getting firmware of Germany/ireland that wouldnt be an issue ryt?( as i already mentioned the firmware presently in the phone isnt of UAE either n is either of germany or ireland ... so i know geting of a new firmware of these countries shouldnt ceate an issue bt just want to be on the safe side so i am asking u)

So I'm assuming you really want official firmware. I would suggest a custom rom but it's your choice. I don't think installing 4.4.4 official firmware will be a problem, only with the baseband as I mentioned earlier might be a bit hit or miss as it will be chosen for the region where it was released. Also once you install 4.4.4 I'm pretty sure you won't be able to go back to 4.3. The only thing I can suggest if you are certain you want official is try one, then if you face any reception problems or excessive battery drain or something try another one. You are not limited to Germany/Ireland either: By flashing the firmware you download, you replace the PDA, CSC and baseband.

As I've mentioned before when you flash the firmware, everything is included such as baseband
Regarding downgrade from 4.4.4 to 4.3, I have read reports saying the bootloader won't allow you to install 4.3 as it is not compatible, but I'm not sure, I've never tried it. Just google and read as much as you can if this is important(being able to downgrade)
Always have a backup of efs folder on your pc. This contains important stuff such as imei.

Hi, I have a question. Recently my phone was updated to latest software 7.1 however i wish to return to marshmallow. This firmware that u have available, will it work for my country Trinidad and Tobago? What are the implications for installing a firmware not meant for your country? Also just for confirmation. The firmware software that I am finding does not match my PDA and CSC number.. Will this be a problem?
