Got an unrooted o2 galalxy s. Got a official unlock code from O2, but appears to be already unlocked as putting any sim (Tmobile. Orange, BTMobile) I am able to make and receive calls and it does not come up with the unlock screen to enter the code as per instructions.
Wanted to unlock as O2 has not upgraded to Android 2.3.6, which I have already upgraded to on another phone. However on Kies show I have latest firmware and does not give option to go to 2.3.6.
do not wan to root etc, but wondered How I get Kies to recognize its not tied to O2 and allow the 2.3.6 upgrade
Note the firmware Kies says is the latest ends with (O2U) which seem to be a O2 particular firmware. How do I get round this as seem not to be truly unlocked/unlinked form O2
I think it will always be viewed as an O2 phone by Kies as that's what it is. Unlocking it does not change the fact that it was an O2 phone and probably has O2 branding.

How can I rebrand it from O2U to XEU without rooting to putting in a custom ROM etc
would Kies reghack and spoofing to think it XEU work or is there a danger of "bricking it".
Not my phone ( mines as 2nd hand one which is has been put XEU by the seller , i Believe, so was able to upgrade to 2.3.6))so do not want to take nay chances. ( other than a very low risk option)
The easiest way is flashing a different firmware using Odin.
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25722239 to download the necessary stuff and just follow the instructions.
You should backup your data as it might get deleted.
If you just want a 2.3.6 firmware without rooting you can stop after finishing step 3.
don't you need to be rooted for Odin?
No you don't need root to use Odin.
Used Odin and updated OK. Kies does however now says the phone is not compatible with standard upgrades via Kies, think this is because the CSC is still O2U. So any future upgrades ( not expecting any from Samsung) will have to be done outside of Kies..
Thanks for the help.

Hi,
Last week, I bought an unbranded Galaxy S on a well known French Site. The phone was unbranded.
I installed the Kies software, and when I plugged my phone Kies told me I could update the firmware. I updated the firmware, and when I restarted the phone, it was not in french anymore, but the language was set to portugese, and my phone was branded for the TMN operator in Portugal.
I'm still able to use my phone with my sim card from belgium, but my phone is full with undesired logos and apps.
I've seen that it's possible to reflash an offficial ROM in the phone, but my version of Kies won't let me do this anymore.
I'd like to update to the latest unbranded French/belgian/The nertherlands version.
Is this still possible? I've found some ProductCode, but I was unable to find a corresponding HIDSWVER.
Thanks!

Hmmm... Sonuds to me like whoever you bought it from had flashed it so that it wiuld seem like it was unbranded but in reality it was a TMN device all along.
I believe that if you have upgraded your kies version to the _100 version then the registry trick will no longer work so you would have to flash it with odin.
If anyone else can chime in or if im wrong then please correct me.

I doubt someone flashed it as i had an original brand new unopened box. It was certainly not second hand.

Well its awfully odd that after flashing to the official froyo firmware on kies that it would just all of a sudden become branded.
Think about this... People use odin and even rhe reghack on kies to upgrade to "unbranded" firmware so it would only make sense that if you flashed using kies official firmware that it would revert the device to its original and branded status.

Unfortunately, that is possible We got many such a reports about phones bought in Polish markets, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8927826&postcount=92
Is Poland some phones were debranded and re-selled by mobile operators to markets. Unfortunately phones didn't get clean ProductCode and that way Kies updated firmware using version for original mobile network operator.
What about downgrading Kies and then doing the reg hack to reflect an unbranded earlier version of the firmware for your region and flashing through Kies again??
Same happened to me, bought the international version at handtec.co.uk, got the phone shipped to Mexico, and first upgrade I did on KIES installed a TMN branded firmware.
I didn't like the branded firmware, specially with all that SAPO apps, I rooted phone, installed titanium backup and deleted all apps, now only problem I have is a dancing "t" character showing on startup and shutdown.
Haven't found the reason for this, or the way to change to a unbranded UK firmware.

This should work. Check the codes for your country either that or reflash it with odin

The solution is written almost in every thread on this forum in last 4-5 days:
You have to downgrade to the older version of Kies, then make changes in the registry:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB\4]
"SoftwareRevision"="I9000XXJF3/I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
"ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDXEU"
"HIDSWVER"=""
"DEVCONINFO"=""
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\]
"LocalVer"="1.5.3.10103.100"
Then you should be offered to upgrade to unbranded JPO for UK
Hi, I am trying to find a link to the stock 2.2.1 for uk, I am on o2 2.2 but i would like the unbranded version so i can upgrade, can anyone point me in the right direction with instructions for a noob. many thanks
Forgot to mention its locked to o2, I have tried the unlock tools and they dont work on my SGS
I think you will need to unlock first as it will ask for an unlock code if you want to use it on another network. It may even ask for it just because it is not the O2 rom (I could be wrong)
can you suggest some other ways to try to unlock it, it is rooted and I have tried the unlock apps from the market also the way when you connect your phone to your pc and run a program but i forget whats its called it just said it couldnt find the code, also is it possible to lock it again if i needed to for warranty
If you install stock then in theory you have broken your warranty as its not your network supplied firmware its the basic firmware supplied by Samsung to the network .
You will have no future updates from O2 if you are not using the O2 firmware .
You sure its locked most SGS from O2 UK are unlocked .
Personally i would use the Rom Kitchin to install different rom and build my own .

I've heard that Voda is providing 2.3 update for SGS.
Which version (product code) should i be on (or spoof) in order
to get Gingerbread on my phone ?
Originally bought on ebay factory sealed, T-Mobile branded,
(Designated for use in UK), then registry spoofed and flashed
to Froyo. Dont have original rom nor info (versions and prod#).
Bought and use it in UK.
Phone as it stands now is
I9000HKDKOR
PDA XXJPY
Phone XAJPY
CSC XXJPY
P.S. The phone currently is on Vodafone network.
if you have an unlocked phone, with just a vodafone sim you wont get the update from them, The phone has to have vodafone branded firmware in order for kies to update it.
why would you want to keep vodafone firmware ? its full of bloatware,
head over to www.samfirmware.com and register for free, download Gingerbread and follow instructions.
the whole process will take less than 30min
I bought SGS that was unlocked from orange (UK) then sold in another country (mine)...
1. Does unlocking procedure include rooting?
2. Is this prohibits me from getting official update through Kies?
A simple yes/no will do, although if u answer no plz help me out and explain
(had a hd2 before this one, did some rom flashing.., never did unlocking though)
Unlocked and rooted are two different things and neither should affect kies offering an update.

1.No..(flash via odin to some unlocked firmware)
2.It depends..(ie) if for the previous problem, you flash a firmware not from your region then no your kies wont be able to give you an official update.. so download a region specific firmware( for ex dd means india, dx means singapore. find ur region code). Instead of this i'd suggest you to go to samfirmware.com and get the best rom.
thank you for replies
i found out my firmware is I9000XWJV1 which could also be found in official sources, so i supose it should be available for me to use official updates...
still is there a way for me to know if the phone is with stock/retail firmware or its rooted with a rom thats just almost as stock?
sry if i may sound silly at any point, im new to samsung rooting and stuff
kies says:
"This version of your device cannot be updated.
Current firmware version DA:JV1 / PHONE:JVE?CSC:J
Can you tell me if it means i wont get updates ever, or just couse now its not available?
Nevermind, i found uot myself.. google almighty =)
Probably against my better judgement, I've bought a 'new' S4 active off of Ebay here in the UK...it turns out its an unlocked AT&T device. While the phone works, it has AT&T branding all over it, and has an AT&T firmware updater rather than the stock android one, which is stuck on 4.3
Is it possible to flash this device with standard UK 4.4.2 firmware? I've attached a screenshot from the device showing what it's running. CSC information is:
Original CSC: XSG
Firmware CSC: ATT
Active CSC: XSG/ATT
CSC Country UAE
CSC Country ISO : AE
Using Phone info it shows:
Baseband I537UCUBML2...but in standard phone settings Baseband I9295XXDMK1??
PDA: I9295UCUBML2 / I537UCUBML2
I think stock UK firmware is BTU CSC, so I've downloaded that from SAMMOBILE.COM, but when I try to flash that with Odin, it just give me a fail with "Complete(Write) operation failed". I've tried different ports, cables and making sure no Kies processes are running (as I've read these can affect it), but still fail.....So my question is, is what I'm trying to do even possible....it is possible to turn an unlocked AT&T device into a stock UK device? If it is maybe I just have to keep trying different PC's and ports and cables till I strike lucky!
Many thanks for any help

I have bad news for you, currently it is impossible. About the only thing you can do is flash i537 firmware and then use UK modems, since it seems like that is what was already done. Sorry, you bought a phone with a locked bootloader and there's nothing that can be done until somebody figures out how to unlock the bootloader on Samsung phones.
Thanks for the reply....I had a bad feeling this was going to be the response, at least now I don't have to waste any more evenings trying to do this, that's the risk of ebay I guess!! Not sure if I'm brave or experienced enough to know how to get hold of the latest 4.4.2 AT&T firmware, flash that, and THEN install UK modems without risking a bricked device!

I try to make people's lives easy, check out the i537 Firmware Guide. At some point in the future I'm going to put together a post on how to flash modems so you can wait for that if you want, but it is really easy to flash modems with Odin and there is pretty much no risk to bricking, the only risk you'll run in to is that your radios won't work until you properly flash the modem. Good luck.
That looks like a great source of information thanks....so it should be possible to install the latest 4.4.2 AT&T firmware, then re-install the UK modems ....I wasn't what the risk of flashing modems was, but it seems like you just use Odin again with the correct file. So as long as I can get hold of those I should be OK.
Many thanks again for the assist.
