Hi guys,
I have an HTC Desire, i like it and i love it, but i think it lacks on many features as compared to Galaxy S. So here i am guys i want to buy a Galaxy S for my brother, who actually wants a blackberry, i have convinced him that its way better.
So anyone who is using it can tell me how is it as far for contacts and messaging, and other features??
Thanks
to be honest.. Its pretty sh*t.. sorry but 3 days I had it.. Desire is sooo much better!
Galaxy S- buggy OS
laggy
bad battery (very!!)
screen too big to operate with one hand
etc etc thats my experiance with SGS..
I have to disagree with the above poster, I have had the Vibrant (t-mo galaxy s), for a little over a month now, works great. Sure the stock load sucks, but most do ..
Would not be posting on XDA if you did not know about custom roms.
Battery life, depends on what you leave running, I get at least a full day if I don't leave a Shload of things running, mine is rooted and use setcpu to throttle back when not needed ...
GPS issues, some have them some don't, mine, locks in about 30 seconds, and is down to under 10m accuracy.
Voice quality is great, much cleaner than the HD2 I had.
Compared to the Desire which is a good phone, the Screen makes the Galaxy S , a winner, not to mention the touch is super accurate.
Coming from the HD2 I could not say the screen is too big to use one handed ..
It is a very fast phone, it runs smooth with a lot of apps loaded, (on non stock firmware), and although FroYo is not out for it yet, should be coming soon.
Considering I can stand out in almost direct sunlight, and use the phone without squinting at the screen that is a big bonus.
The only thing I could say about the Vibrant variant, is it does feel almost cheap, since the battery cover is plastic, the phone is tough, but just feels too light to be that tough.
As far as contacts and messaging go, it works well, not sure I am thrilled with the TouchWiz, interface that is on top of them, but it works.
thanks for the response, i wont mind more of it.
Thanks

Fascinate (vzw galaxy) rocks. A quick root and titanium pro to double and triple battery life. I would type everything watcher64 did above, but he already did and I'm lazy. !PANDA must have small hands for being 16 to complain. But this is a man's phone.

Apparently you didn't have enough time with iT.
Buggy os? You kept it stock huh? Mines running a leaked 2.2 and its fast as sh*t
Laggy? Really? Did you really say that? You kept it stock for sure.
Screen to big? How small are your hands? Oompa lumpa sized? Mine are tiny and I can write just fine with one.
Bad battery? Hell no. This easily lasts me 2 days on one charge before it dies. You just have to train it.
Apparently you didn't spend enough time with it. Mines a beast!

Can't agree more.
so wait, let me get this straight. What y'all android lovers are saying is that you traded one buggy, laggy OS that requires an unlock and custom ROM to fix, for another???
I tried to help a coworker with his and it is very laggy and had several force closes over about an hour of me playing with it. Several times I had to wait 10-15 seconds for the screen to become responsive again.

awesome, gonna wait for an Einherjar custom KA7 though
Please mod % Battery
Just when i setup KA6 . Thank you, gonna flash it now just for the sake of it.Will see in the morning how it behaves.
Wow!
All I have to say is whow, hold up your going to fast for me!
This is by far the fastest rom I have used on the Vibrant thus far. The response is just insane. Only had it 30 minutes or so so I can't say the battery life will be great.
The radio on this is insane, gps lock in like 10 seconds and within a minute on the tester was a 6m accuracy in a car doing well past the speed limit, I wasn't driving . The speed of the web browser is the fastest experience as well on the Vibrant.
I will say I tried going to Trigger twice but it wouldn't show the launcher at all, I couldn't get it fixed and in a moment of desperation tried this and I think it was fate.
Well done and many thanks!
PS: The Einherjar Dev Team is lucky to have you and if this is the product you can put out, man this dev team is the new hotness. I was already in love with Pepperkake and haven't found a rom till this one that I liked as much.

Hey, I've been using this rom since last night and so far everything is running smooth and stable.
I did not ask him what the deal was, to be honest a bad odin flash might be what did it. However I re odined and reflashed and it did the same thing. I was at work and it was coming up shift end time so I was just trying to get something working for the ride home, plus was waiting for a call from the wife.
My only request is an accurate battery mod with some wicked graphic like the circle that changes colors.
For now and the past 3 roms I've had I just used a widget out of the market so no big deal. Debating whether I want the wifi calling, before at my house I didn't get the best reception, call from wife once i got home was steller quality and no breakup so I think in all honesty the radio may have done the trick and may not require the wifi calling afterall. Plus I'm worried what it might do to this screeching performance.

You're absolutely right about the radio. I found the early versions of the Wifi calling app to be a resource hog, which is why I remove it from this build, and have always removed it from my personal builds. As far as the accurate batery mod, I'm sure that cooking up somewhere. I'm planning on taking some time this weekend to jump into framework modification and theming, so I can start bringing these things to the builds myself. Until then, we have to wait on our wonderful community here to provide us with the mods when new versions drop.
god, i jizzed when i saw the screenshot of the new music player when i was on official 2.2, it was too laggy to even go there... im downloading now!

The Multiple Lock Screens or Power Menu haven't been ported over yet. Again, a framework thing. I'm learning as I'm going and will eventually have all of these worked into an initial release. market will update itself, I can add a flashable zip to the op to add back in the Memo.apk. As far as swype, I don't use it personally, UltraKeyboard for me , but I can definitely look into it.
axura zip is missing system/apps for some reason..... can you upload a memo please? thanks!
and the swype is just a suggestion, most people use other keyboards too im guessing.
I am no ordinary greenhorn, in fact, to be completely honest this is the first smart phone I have ever owned. Before this love affair began with my thrill 3D, I was partial to the cheap flip phones. So without further ado; I rooted her bricked her first by checkin out system tuner and seeing what would happen if I turned up a thing or two. When i woke in the morning jungle font stopped unexpectedly, so i pressed force close, it came back faster than i could pull my thumb away, after about a dozen or so times w/ the same result, I did what any sensible idiot comparable to uneducated stone would do and pulled the battery. She rebooted with no font. Factory reset, root again recover my beloved apps and data and then (again what any sensible idiot would and opened system tuner. in my defense, however i was only moving system files to sd not uninstalling them. 'ol thrill did not like that one bit and with a sudden burst of rage-full, maniacal, protest force closed files of all types, one super quickly right after another. it was a domino effect sort of thing. anyway, i tried the lg flash package steps several times to no avail, now it seems overwhelming. tomorrow i am dive right in to xda university deal i heard about, but in the mean time any help in getting my deeply missed thrill back on line would be appreciated so much more than most of you could imagine. i have a lot on plate and this couldn't have been a worse time for me kill my life line. Actually my friend, I'm in my late thirties with two little boys. I'm a single dad, with zero presence from their biological co-founder. I'm a carpenter by trade, hence the cheap flip phones in the past. In addition to work and kids, I did start going to college full time (I'm in my second semester) for child psychology in order to better understand the difference between my youngest (4) who is developing typically and my oldest (7) who is autistic. In the middle of wrestling an already obese schedule, I am smack dab in the middle of fighting with the school district because they are (in my opinion based on my careful observation) stuck in the process of teaching autistic kids how to be more autistic rather than how to be "human" like most of the rest of us. To recover my boy from his public-school-bootloop seems to be as equally perplexing as my phone. A seventh grade education over twenty years ago only goes so far. So there it is, while I love to write, I am far from a frat boy, where they get laid in bed, I only lay in bed Embarrassing really, but my sacrifice is/will be the root of all of my boys smiles. I don't have the money nor the desire to buy a new phone. I love my thrill! It is imperative that I get it back online ASAP. Unfortunately often times a picture in crayon is what I need when it comes to some things. If you guys can't or won't help me get it going I figure it out, I always do. But no matter what, I will have my thrill. P.S. Mad props for all you guy that have put the effort into XDA University and the slang terms thread, I admire people who give up their time and energy just for the sake of sharing what they know, for us "noobs" that kind of generosity is the only way learn about such alien concepts and processes as these. Like I said "I'm no ordinary greenhorn" Thanks again in advance, time is ticking and I'm not using a pay phone and refuse to get a flipper! Gotta run, good day all!!!!!!

I followed the instructions from an optimums thread by dark lestat, i tried four times. but absolutely nothing happened. Norton was a problem, fixed that. then found out what a com port was, let me ask anyway, that refers to the USB port right, and not communication port like maybe through a my firewall? i haven't tried a different USB cable yet cause i just found out about it tonite while i was looking for some answers. do i do anything with the kidz file? i would rather have a different ROM, what is the recovery manager for? and one more clarification, how do I know that it is working at the last step when i put the bat back in and connect the USB to my lap top? will it vibrate or screen flash or something. I am going to try again tomorrow. i learned a lot i didn't know today from xda u, so I don't feel so lost. I can build a house ,but droid recovery is a whole ball game! Thanks again Bigtech.
another Q
Does it matter which kdz file I choose, if so Which one should I use? I ended up with the official gingerbread cause it was the only link that worked.
use either v30b kdz of v28b kdz. they're both ics, which is, i believe much better than gingerbread
Any word if they got rid of the ghost call problem? And I am very surprised that ATT still cares about this phone considering they discontinued it like 5 months after they started to sell it

If it wasnt in salt water you have some chance of saving it even still. I have seen a lot of phones dry out after a week or so and become fully functional again. give it a bath in methylated spirits for a few minutes with battery, sim and sd out of course. Give it a day to dry out and see how your luck is...But if it was salt your screwed, the corrosion would be devastating...
Ah yeah tried that but it was salt water... and water got in between screen... Sad, I will miss this phone it was awesome. But I'll see how the Nexus 4 does now!

OK I have a birthday tomorrow and as a present I am moving on to the Galaxy SII (yes, it's FINALLY my turn to say that!). $199 was too good to refuse, especially with 4 flexpays of $50. Two years of battling the Exhibit are enough, wouldn't you say? Anyway I will miss the forum around here a bit, even though we've had a number of departures over the past year. If it wasn't for the good folks in this community the Exhibit would have been retired LONG ago for me. Frankly without a custom ROM/kernel it is a POS device. No other way to put it! At least we have one or two new guys on the block to carry on for those who still have this phone or just got it. I wish them luck. As for myself I can't wait to try all the things that are available on XDA for this device. Hope I don't flash more ROMs than I did for the Exhibit or I will have no life left, LOL.
Anyway for those who are interested, go here for the deal: http://www.hsn.com/products/samsung-galaxy-sii-no-contract-smartphone-t-mobile/7334966

Thanks man. Unfortunately HSN just raised the price back up to $249, same as they have it on Amazon. Man glad I didn't procrastinate anymore like I always do. Funny thing is I watched the video presentation they did on TV and I'm thinking how many more they could sell if they promoted the fact you can root & get the latest ROMs out there. Of course if they did that people would know they can get rid of that bloatware! Just think of the poor sheep who will just keep stock ICS on it.

I think that rooting is beyond the scope of most people's interest. As it also voids any warranty, the manufacturer would be slightly against HSN promoting the practice, is my guess.

Oh yeah, sure that's part of it too. Sadly you're right, most people probably wouldn't want to make effort to make their phone better than it is. Too much thinking involved!
Which is good for me, as it means phones which have already been rooted sell for less on eBay. Saving me money and hassle.

It probably comes with stock 4.1.2.
I don't think you are going to be disappointed. It is an awesome phone still.
If I had one I'd root it and get CyanogenMod

They said 4.0 on the commercial and on the website. A friend of mine has one and it has ICS on it. No matter because it will be rooted and updated when I get it. Question will be whether or not to go with a 4.2.2 rom or KitKat. So many apps need to catch up to ART and the whole 4.4 OS system.

Yes. There still needs to be some development before I move to 4.0. I'm very interested, once the system had been around a bit. I don't usually get the x.0 version of any software. To many issues.

S2 has arrived
Well the phone is finally here so it's goodbye to the Exhibit! Thanks to so many who made the Exhibit a tolerable phone and were a pleasure to have banter/discussions with here in the Exhibit forum. Shout outs and thank you's to @camcory, @jocala, @Tim1928, @smartguy044, @bpear96, @detett, @tazmaniondvl, @meekwrb, @Dvarl, @CoolLoL1999, @[email protected], @jrleathers, @Bloodflame (aka "Flames of Blood"), @afwolfpacked (aka "Airwolf"), @cars1189, and @Jaws4God. @jfbs good luck to you, you will be the last salvation for this phone. @Proud2banoob good luck in learning the ropes!
BTW if I forgot somebody it wasn't on purpose. Now on to the hard work of rooting and finding a ROM for the new phone. Hopefully I will settle on one or two but if my experience with the Exhibit showed anything it was a penchant for being a fairweather ROM user! I may stop by here every now and then too, afterall I haven't given the Exhibit away to anybody yet.
Lastly if it was one thing I got out of using this phone, it was to appreciate a really good phone once I got it.

hah hah! Congrats sir on the new phone.
I went ahead and plunked some coin for a Nexus 5. It has some sound bugs (some sound is fine with some apps and not others) and the vibration isn't as strong on key presses (but in other areas is fine and a tester app I found shows the vibration motor is fine). Meh, the speed just kicks butt! Also, having 2G of RAM is ..... awesome. The quad core ... anyway .. you get the idea.
I am still thinking of which ROM to put on ... I had cyanogenmod on my other phone and I loved it ... but they're not quite ready.
Take care and thanks for writing man!

Augh! RebelROM!!! I'm having a PTSD flashback! AD, it was good to work with you. You taught me a lot. Good luck. I will try to nab one of those Galaxy Lights to use as a DD, so i can keep playing with the Exhibit. It's a solid little phone and good learning tool. I wish you all the best and don't forget us!
I know I haven't been active in the exhibit community . But I'm glad you guys enjoyed RebelRom so much . Enjoy your nexus 5!

It's really good to hear from you man, and yes RebelROM was hands down the best GB ROM this phone ever had. People here can testify how many times I went back to it every time I got frustrated with one of the ICS ROMs back in the day.
Lol I just came back from rebel Lol, ran great but I sure did miss all the features of newer ROMs. But I like that galaxy light as well quad core with 1gb ram sounds a ton better then this lol

Man, I'm gonna miss seeing you around here because I don't say much and when things got a little quiet , you were still there, keeping the ball rolling. Everything ends at some point and I'm just waiting for the day this place turns into a ghost town. At least some awesome devs left us in a pretty.good spot. Also, thanks for all your help as you were part of making this phone great as well.
Good luck fellow Kentuckian!
