[Q] Delete battery stats - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way for me to delete my battery stats without resorting to rooting my SGS? Thanks!

from the market .

sorry that requires root
jje

As I understand it, anything like clearing caches or wiping stats requires root, otherwise you can't access the required directories.
I may be wrong, but it makes sense that those features are locked down for unrooted users.

So i guess there's no option other than root. Thanks for the replies guys.

[Q] General rooting questions.

Hello, i just got my first smartphone, i have AT&T and i didnt want an iphone and was more drawn toward andriod, so i got a captivate. I would really like to do alot of the things in the "Pimp my captivate" guide but i have some questions first.
1.) If i root the phone, and take off the bloatware, will i still get updates if i go to the check for updates in settings? (ex. like the gps fix and froyo update someday).
2.) Its not going to subtract any features from the phone is it ? (ex. the google syncing and everything will still work? Basically is the rooting process and or bloatware removal going to change the way the phone works besides the programs those being gone?
Ill admit i'm an andriod phone hacking noob, but i do know computers well and programming and have altered other devices in the past.

I would like to know this as well.

Since no updates have come down yet, I don't think anyone is sure of the answer to this. Keep in mind that it's a good idea to make backups of the app APKs on your sdcard before you remove them (just in case you want to reinstall them).

Removing AT&T's crappy apps won't affect the phone negatively at all. They simply won't be there, so you can't use them (if you find them useful). The only app that I can think of you may want to keep is the AT&T Hot Spots app so you phone can use free AT&T wifi at locations such as Starbucks.
Yes, you will still get updates as long as you do not install a custom ROM. (Rooting is ok).
The only functionality that will be removed will be that of the apps you delete
Thank you so much this clears up alot of the things I've been wondering.

Rooting issues
I have tried everything I have found online. The superuser icon is there. I have downloaded several apps that require the device to be rooted. I turned on usb debugging, and turned it off. I've downloaded update.zip several times.
I'm not entirely a noob when it comes to tweaking phones. I flashed roms on windows mobile and performed all sorts of modifications I got off this site.
I have the superuser icon. I downloaded titanium. Titanium says it installed busybox. I downloaded the separate busybox app from the market. That app has a popup saying that a nand unlock is necessary for the app to work. When I run it in spite of the popup, it says the device is rooted, but can't find busybox. A whoami command in adb will indicate that I'm not. I went though adb to reinstall busybox. But whenever I try to run any significant commands (eg su) it gives me a permission denied error. Googling permission denied gives me a myraid of possible causes, but it seems I'm getting far afield. I just want to get rid of the bloatware for now.
Is there another program to root this thing? Did I just miss something incredibly obvious?
hello, I recently just rooted this beast, and was wondering when, why, and how often i should clear out the dalvic cache

You shouldn't ever need to unless you are installing a ROM that requires it. the Dalvik Cache is the Java VM that Android Runs on and it does a very good job of keeping itself cleared. It does lots of Garbage collection on its own.
gotcha! thank you

[Q] Help - Applications can't save settings after going JPY -> JPB -> JPY

Hello everyone!
I'm a little concerned, I use several applications that when are killed by the OS lose any customization I made.
Full story:
A few days ago I do a backwards and then forwards update to the firmware via Kies registry hacks. I have updated a week or so ago from 2.2 to 2.2.1 JPY but I noticed a huge battery drain, read the YABD thread and concluded that it was because of a bad historic of the battery stats. I couldn't delete them or install a different recovery because in 2.2.1 I wasn't able to root. So I ended up trying to revert to my localized JPB version that was working pretty well, I did but almost all applications turned unusable(force closing all of them) so I decided to try to go to JPY again and see if clearing the cache partition and reflashing could erase the battery stats.
I finally reflashed again JPY and the battery went to a respectable almost two days of lasting, also I noticed a drain using Wifi but was less than before. So I stayed almost happy with it until I found that Fancy Widget, NoLed and CityBikes weren't able to store any settings as far as they were finished by the system, I then checked out to finish them with a task killer to prove my hypothesis and so it did.
Actual state:
I tried to erase and reinstall this apps several times with no change in the behaviour, any ideas of what I can do?
I suspect of a permission problems as this apps where already installed during the flashing process.
I don't want to do a factory reset because I don't want to lose my SMS log and don't know how to backup it and then restore it.
(I already backed up several games that I don't want to start from the beginning again ^^)
Thanks for your help!!
This post might help you

Thanks!
Seems like a fix, but I don't have root access yet and can't access that folder.
I'll try then getting root access in 2.2.1.
Thanks again!!
Ok, checked out!
I ended up installing Voodoo (for JPY) without converting to ext4 yet.
I can tell that the problem was what it's said in that post you posted.
Now the problematic apps can store their settings as usual.
Thank you a lot!!!

[Q] Issue with Root Duration

Hey guys, I didn't see anyone ask this question explicitly but if it has been stickied somewhere and I just overlooked it I apologize.
Basically I've flashed several different root images using Mofo root and they work for the most part minus one small aspect. After some duration of time (I'm not sure exactly how long but maybe from an hour to a few hours), root apps will basically stop functioning. If I go into supersu, I just get a loading circle that never gets anywhere. I've tried force closing it and disabling/reenabling superuser but that hasn't worked. Some apps continue to function (Gravitybox custom tiles, WiFi Tether, Seeder) but others do not start up properly (TiBackup for example gets stuck at the loading screen where it says asking for root privileges and tasker secure setting profiles return an error). Only a hard reboot will properly restore root but then the same issue occurs where after a while I have to continue to hard reboot once root stops functioning.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Sorry I don't have a solution but I just wanted to bump this thread because I'm having the same issues as you. Wakelock detector also gets stuck on loading screen and supersu fails to open.

I also had the same issue. I am using the image with busy box and Xposed framework installed. After a an hour or so super user said that the binary was not installed, and most of my root apps stopped working. Root checker said my Turbo was not rooted, though gravity box and a few other Xposed modules continued to work. I rebooted the phone, but had the same problem. I turned notifications for the supersu app back on, and after about a minute it said the binary had to be updated, and I had root again. I'm not sure what is going on, but I will come back if I find anything
I'm not having any issues. I would reboot the phone into recovery and wipe the cache there. Hope that helps.
Glad I saw this thread...I'm having the exact same issue!
A hard reboot will solve the problem every time...but its quite annoying...
I'm going to try a factory reset and see if that helps
Clearing the cache seems to have solved this for me. I haven't lost root in a few days.
Seems to have resolved itself
I just wanted to mention that between clearing the cache and flashing a different rooted image this issue appears to have resolved itself.
I will update after some time to see if this fix maintains or if anything else pops up. Thanks for the suggestions!

What cache did you clear? I tried to clear the cache from the recovery, but my phone freezes and I have to reboot. Then I loose root a while later.

System App Remover + KingRoot

Hello guys!
After bricking my first Xperia Z thanks to Xposed, I decided not to root my second XZ. Used stock for about a year till yesterday, when i decited to root with kingroot + script.
Everything went well, i am now rooted, managed to change the dpi and the font. Hurray!
Now, I'm trying to remove some bloatware without getting into bootloops after, but i do not know which is safe or not..
I did not install any recovery, rom is stock LP.
My question is if there is a list with the safe apk's to remove taking in consideration the way i rooted + no recovery work done.
Please excuse me if this is a wrong section and thank you in advance!

Well, there is a usual sense as to how to remove apps. Apps which you do not see icons on your drawer/dock are USUALLY A BIG NO. Apps which you do see on your dock/drawer can be removed safely , however, try not to remove camera, settings or such things.
If you can send me screenshots, I can easily tell you which are safe and which are not. Do understand sometimes the apks are odexed which means they need another apk to function fully so if you remove on apk, it might affect another.
This usually tells you which bloatware is safe to remove

How did you brick your device with xposed?. Just asking so I won't do the same
Not that much to tell.. I was on 4.4.2 i think and i rooted with Towel Root app.
After rooting, i installed xposed and busybox. When the phone asked to reboot, i clicked ok and the phone just died.. RIP.
I tried to bring it back to life but no success. Even sent it to a service center, but same result. I was very lucky that i could get it replaced with warranty.
So my advice is to be very careful what you do..

Wipe Cache/Dalvik on non rooted locked bootloader

Well, as far as I understand, Dalvik does not exist anymore as the JRM is now ART, but there might be a cache associated as well ?
Anyway, on my previous phone (S4 mini plus), I used to recovery 20% performances after cleaning cache/dalvik once a month through the embedded recovery (well my phone was also rooted but I know that this could be done with full stock).
With my XZ1 Compact, I can't boot to recovery, I believe the feature is block by Sony (damn I miss root so much).
So, is there an alternate way to clear this cache ?
I have an issue since the latest firmware update where location and timer icons do not disappear from the status bar after they have been turned off, this is annoying, I hope a cache clear could solve this...

Factory reset?
There is a handy app System UI tuner, you have to add a couple of cammands via ADB to get it to work on non-rooted. But it will get rid of unwanted icons.
Nope, the factory reset is not a solution, I just want to wipe cache, not data.
Thanks for the tool, but this wouldn't fix my issue that seem actually related to the latest firmware (I'm not looking for uninstalling apps from system).

Hello there, wondering would you share it here if you did find a solution?
Thanks
I can't get into recovery mode neither on XZ1c...
