XDAIIi newbee !

Hello all, 1st post here. I will be aquirring a XDAIIi in a week or two as a relative is replacing his firms pda`s and im getting one of the old units.
I know they were on O2 and I have a T-mobile sim so Id like to unlock it.
I have found the unlock info on this forum and will give that a go.
My question is, what should I check for to make sure it will be running as best it can be and how can I find out what s/ware should be loaded onto it and is there a way of getting a master copy of the original build or will this all be on the software disks that came with it ?
also is there any particular sat nav s/ware that works better than most on the XDAIIi?
I understand the xdaIIi is called something else in places, what is that name ?
sorry there such open questions nut couldnt think how to phrase them in order to do a search.

I have sucessfully unlocked three of my firm's old Alpine's, aka XDA IIi, using the file in this post, All in one SIM unlock tool, personally i found the earlier version more successful, but you may be OK with the newer version. The biggest thing i would say is to have patience, when you run it, it will seem to finish and nothing has happened. Wait until you receive a message saying it has been unlocked, and then soft reset.
Only other advice i can give is to do a hard reset to get it back to factory settings and then when you get a popup saying "Applying customisations in 3 seconds", or something similar, soft reset. This will prevent the O2 stuff being installed, leaving you with more RAM to play with.

Don't try to improve it
as is it is one of the best ever made OK yes it restricted because of only running 2003SE but it runs it dam fast. I have a friend that has a Orbit (the latest one by O2 thats the equivilent of the XDA IIi and mine is as fast as his and he ditched the crappy sat nav software that came with it to go back to TT6, ref sat nav software it runs TT 6 fine I have it on mine and have no problems whatso ever.

Windows Update...... Anyone?

Im curious to know if anyone has ever activated the Windows Update on their WM5/6/6.1 phone and something actually downloaded?

Tried a couple times and got nothing

Not sure what it is for? It didn't work with WM5 either.

there was a similar thread some weeks ago.
i think WM has a windows update function for distributin critical updates if someone writes a wm virus / worm / whatever that uses a bug in Windows Mobile.

Yea ive ben trying since feb this year and have never been able to get any sort of update, try like few times each month.....
so dont really know whats the point of it.

yha i found it funny to i i'm trying to update like for 2 years now but nothing
a while ago my phone went to htc
when i got it back there was a newer version on it with updates so i think that update is useless

this is not about loading a new rom on your phone. we're talking about the integrated windows update function in windows mobile

it has never provided an update, but all of sudden today, it's not getting a connection to the update server.... instead of saying no updates available...

I am not sure if this is a feature that will ever be enabled. When I worked for Sprint and Verizon there was discussion of FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) updates. The main issue that could cause serious problems if the persons phone should reset or lose power during that update. It would be nice if the mobile device center could keep track of your applications and available updates like the Apple I-Tunes. Has anyone every thought of that? I think it would be fun to hack WMDC.

Customer Service No Help -- Can You Help?

I've become really frustrated with HTC. I'm Trying to Upgrade My ROM To the new update. I Currently Have 1.5 on my Hero (Sprint). I've contacted Customer Service for the issue of Getting a USB NOT CONNECTED when trying to upgrade my ROM. that update from their website.
Than they told me i have to have HTC Sync. One customer service agent went through everything and we couldn't find a reason why it was not working on my Windows 7 Computer so she Fwd me to mydigitallife.com to do that thing (I'm sure you guys have heard about it)
That didn't work. So all she could tell me is try another computer.
So I Go to my Windows Vista Computer and try everything and still Nothing has worked. This is really frustrating me. Could anyone PLEASE give me some assistance?
EDIT:I Contacted a HTC Agent again for the Vista problem not working & All he could tell me in the end is that he will fwd this issue to the bigger boys if you will, and he will have them contact me within 72 Hours..Which i doubt i will be receiving a phone call i've heard this from other tech support companies out there.

Sound like a bad cable. Mine went bad fast. Bought a cheap mini usb that works and no problem since

Update your USB/chipset drivers.

How Do You do that?
Edit: I Switched the USB Cable and still no luck.

Go to the manufacture of your computer's website, go the drivers page & download the USB/chipset drivers.

How old of a version of HTC sync are you running? I know some of the older versions didn't have all the drivers for windows 7 so you had to manually migrate over the vista drivers. Have you downloaded the most recent version of it, because if not I would recommend it due to there being new drivers in the release.

I am sure you know already but using the official 2.1 RUU will mean you can not get root and you can not go back to 1.5 if you don't like 2.1
If you have a Sprint store near you then try to see if they will do it in store.

Windows marketplace not working on HTC HD7

I couldn´t wait for hd7 to come in stores in the Netherlands, so i bought one from Germany on ebay.
Now i´ve found out that everything is working, only the windows marketplace doesn´t allow me to install apps. It says that Marketplace is not yet available in your country/region.
Is there anything i can do to make it work? Can someone please help me, or i would have to return this phone

The same problem with my hd7, I got it yesterday
First I could enter the market and install apps, but 2 Hours later i couldn't
But the good thing is that I still can use the installed apps

I would like to ask you if you know a way I can remove the U2M8107 and the effects it has from my HD7. The problem is I never put this in my phone and I do not know what it does. I know that I can't update my phone now for some months as the OS version I have is 7.5.
Additionally to this I have a startup screen of a car that says "Designed by ansar".
I know this is a noobish question but search engines only brought me to this forum.

Update:
Okay I managed to update my phone using a cab file I found here after reading for some hours ^^. The tutorials are very helpful and detailed. The only problem is that now under the information of the phone itself, it says it is a Nokia Lumia 800. However I'm sure it was for a HD7. Anyway the phone is working fine but this is the only issue.
