Anytime I run my navigation on my nexus the voice will work for one or two directions. And it will go to this demonic like voice ( I call him Carl), which just repeats some web address and that on the female voice will not come back after that. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Google many times. I've had this problem since stock 2.2.1 and I've flashed many roms since then. Nothing seems to change it better/worst, sorry if this is a repost.
Have you tried deleting the voice cache? It's located at:
/sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.maps/cache
yeah I had done that before in the past, and It would work for like a trip or too and just go back to the voice. I'm thinking about just formatting my sd card and see what happens?
I can confirm this as well. It happens with the Espeak TTS. It's a shame because I like Espeak so much more than Pico.

Have you tried changing to "Pico TTS" under "Text-to-speech settings"? (I'm assuming you have eSpeak TTS on currently, based on what rickytenzer said)
sounds like you got a demon inside your nexus one....since you already named him Carl, he will love you till death.

Actually since I formated my SD, it just go worst. I get Force Close every time it goes to tell me the second direction. The other voice is gone however, it's just back the normal lady. But I've seem to have created a whole new problem in the process. I've wipe in the cache in clockwork, but still no changes.

Now I have this whole force close problem????? You know where I could get a Copy of gmaps files that should be on my sd? I've done a sys app removal and reinstalled but it would changed anything.

I am pulling my frickin hair out trying to figure this, so I am asking for help.
I am running xRom, everything up-to-date, and the only 3rd party messaging app I have is SMS Popup, which has been disbaled throughout my entire problem.
The issue is that whenever I get a text it is playing a full song out off my sdcard, despite my ringtone being set to "Don't Panic" in the settings. I erased the song w/ Linda File Manager, and after that it chose a random tone to play, not the one I had set. This is more acceptable to me since it is an actual messaging tone (1 or 2 notes) but I am just worried it is going to choose another song at some point, which is way too long when you are texting back and forth with someone.
Any ideas?
Edit: Ok I opened SMS Popup (disabled already) to double check it was turned off, and now it vibrates, which really sucks, I am rarely close enough to hear or feel the vibrations...
Try doing a wipe and then flash. That might fix it. If you have a partitioned sd card, try repartioning it...

That sounds like an extreme but it will work
You know that there are 2 places you can set your notifications from right? Once is menu/settings/sounds and display and the other one is when you open up messaging app hit menu/settings/notification settings,
See if that has anything to do with your problem before you start nuking your partitions
Good luck

This led me to the answer, thanks. What had happened was in the messaging application at some point I had selected the music, not realizing the two weren't tied together, which would make too much sense. Anyhow, I erased the song, so now nothing was selected, so for some reason it was cycling thru the different ringtones, which makes no sense, but whatever. So I set it back to the "Default Ringtone" option, and now it works fine. Thank God I didn't have to wipe, I probably would have just dealt with it for another few days, cause wiping stresses me worse than this **** did.
Install it via rom manager or clockwork. Backup prior to doing so.
If things do not show up immediatly, try installing some random app and see if it populates then.
Otherwise, it will happen the next time the market data sync with the phone.

are there any reasons not to do this? will this lead to bad dependencies? incorrectly installed applications?
What problems can this cause? Is this fixable?

A. This isn't Redhat, circa 1997. Android doesn't work that way.
B. Either they install, or they don't.
C. Problems it can cause? It can prevent Incredible only and/or Verizon only applications from showing up. I don't forsee that being an issue, ever so...
This is a simple build.prop change so that the market will show all paid apps.
Before:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/212490:user/release-keys
(Market: wtf is this?)
After:
ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion/mahimahi:2.2/FRF91/43546:user/release-keys
(Market: Oh hai, Nexus One!)
Thanks
This worked for me and I got the Documents to Go paid version which was the only thing that I was needing. I had some problems with it kicking me off the network and having to use wifi to connect. After a reboot I was back on the network though so I don't know if that had anything to do with adding this.
Out of curiosity is there a way that I can go back to what it was so that when the market gets fixed it would work like it is suppose to? I saw in the build.prop file what you changed and thought I could just change that back but I wanted to ask before I did.
Thanks so much for this.
This will break custom boot animations?

Thanks for this, one of my paid apps wasn't showing up, this did the trick!
Ok the reason I asked was because someone in ##incredibleroot said it would cause problems
Did they specify what?
Random text about causing problems from someone in IRC without a reason of what or why is pretty worthless.

To have the market checkin right away do the following so you don't have to wait or download any other BS apps.
1. Open the Phone app
2. Dial *#*#CHECKIN#*#* (2432546) ** When you type the last "*" what you typed will disappear.
3. Wait for the message on the notification bar to say "checkin succeeded."
4. All paid apps that were missing should be available.
Thanks.

I guess I'm the only one that has great streaming audio quality. I use Pandora and even before changing the audio quality setting to "High" it didn't sound bad. I wonder what that is that makes it hit or miss on these devices.
Anyways, I just wanted to point out that the AAC fix really slows the phone down a bit. It changed my quadrant scores from 1200's down to 790-800.
Just a FYI.
P.S. Thanks for the Market fix!
i have the htc music widget on my homescreen. after installing the update with the streaming audio fixes whenever i reboot my phone my music starts playing automatically. now when i remove the widget and reboot the music doesn't play.

Hello,
I send a lot of text messages to nearly 200 contacts on a semi regular basis. I have an excellent app that does it well. The only issue is I constantly get permission messages saying I'm sending too many and if I wanna authorize more, its very annoying and if I don't accept it as soon as it comes up, will usually delay my messages.
So my question is, how do I remove/change that SMS limit on Android 5.0? IRS definitely baked into the OS cause as I said, any SMS app gets the same issue.
All help and thoughts appreciated!

PS: I tried a couple SMS limit apps on the Play Store, nothing updated for lollipop yet.

Sure, but I also understand its an adjustment somewhere in a system database file to change the limit, I found instructions for a Galaxy S3 phone, but its not in the same place. I was hoping one of the devs of said Roms could point me to the right file so I can adjust it manually on stock.
Anyone else?

If I don't have the limit, I will come back to confirm this app works.
Hope it works !!!

My phone is rooted and I'm on Dirty Unicorns 5.02. I'm not sure what system you're on but I've sent out 150 messages without an issue using Group SMS Pro. It will ask me to Wait or Kill the app while sending bulk sms, but I hit Wait and everything goes through. Also, I don't send much more than 200 messages at a time because even on KitKat that seemed to be an issue.
So? Did it work?

So? Did it work? I think not, but your promised update would be appreciated.
I to would like to figure out how to work around this limit. I am on Benzo rom 5.1 and under settings/security you can select 30, 50, 100 or 200 but it's a dead setting apparently because I can select 50, 100 or 200 and I still have to approve any text over 30. Did you figure out how to fix it? I tried the linked google play apps to get around but no luck so far
Flash a custom rom - like what was posted in post #2.
Other than that, you're probably out of luck, OP. Just do what anyone else here would do if they *just have to have that ability* - flash the rom.
Thanks for the reply but I will NOT flash LS because everytime I have tried it it borks my phone and I've been dumb enough to try it "one more time" too many times and paid the price. I know it's probably something I'm doing and not the roms fault but done with that one..........:cyclops:
I went back and looked at the app posted above called SMS Limit Unlock and played around a bit more. I changed the Restriction cycle time and Restriction message amount settings a few times when I was in there before but never clicked on 'Unlock'. I did that this time and it went thru a progression and then said I needed to reboot for settings to take hold. I sorta forgot that step before thinking the Unlock was to convert to the paid version of the app. I rebooted just in time to give it a try and it worked exactly as it should so I got it to work correctly.
Figured I'd post this in the thread so in case someone else does a google search on SMS limit problems and they get directed to this thread as I did, hopefully this will work for them as well. I am on Benzo 5.1 and it worked...... Yippeeeee

1. Root Phone
2. Download/Install a Different SMS(texting) app from the Google Store
I chose to use the 'Go SMS PRO app
3. Download a Root Uninstaller
I used 'Root Uninstaller Free'
4. Uninstall the stock SMS app, it's called 'Text Messaging' I believe. Can't quite remember
5. Profit!!! Just remember to check the setting in your new SMS app for any limit. In Go SMS PRO you can turn off any limit or have it save upto 100+ texts and then start deleting old ones.
I'm not really sure if uninstalling the stock app can actually cause problems, but a few people told me it Could.
It obviously worked fine on Android 5.0

Hi guys. Hope you are all ok.
I have an honor 5c and sometimes I'm having this weird issue. Sometimes I try to call someone and when I open the dialler app it crashes straight away. It also happens with apps like settings. If I reboot my phone it keeps happening and sometimes it just comes back to normal.
I made this video when it happend last time, check it please to have a better idea of the issue.
Hope someone can give me a hand here.
Thanks in advance, guys!

I've tried that too but when it happens it doesn't allow me to open the settings app either.
Any ideas? As I said, it's like a set of applications stop working when it happens and it's just randomly!
In average I would say it happens once every two weeks and I realize it when I take my phone an try to call someone, then other people say that they couldn't call me during that period....

I had the same issue, with Settings at least, when I was rooted and trying out the Pixel Launcher with the app in to the /system folder to allow the Google Now feature to work. Settings would be fine sometimes after a reboot, not others. Going back to the "normal" Google Now launcher has never made it happen.

hi. Thanks for your answer. The bad thing is that it keeps happening, and I just upgraded the version of my firmware to the latest one (v130) and it happened again the other day. The only thing I haven't tried is to use the phone without rooting it. I haven't changed the launcher, so in my case that's not the problem unfortunately.

The Name ID and Visual Voicemail app keep creating shortcuts on my homepage. Anybody else having this issue or something similar? I've deleted the shortcuts multiple times, but after a reboot bammm there they are again.
edit: disabled Name ID and of course that no longer does it - that is useless anyway. Visual voicemail on the other hand is pretty crucial, tried uninstalling and reinstalling. No go, still re-adds to home page after reboot.
