[Q] Error's installing Darky's 9.3 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm getting the following errors trying to install Darky's 9.3 rom from CW
I have tried wipe and no-wipe and get the same error all times.
I have wiped from CW and get the same error.
I have tried with voodoo enabled and disabled. I have tried downloading the install file from different computers and still get the same errors.
Error is:
E: can't chown/mod /system/bin/netconfig
failure at line 75
set_perm 0 3003 02753 system: bin/netconfig
Once this happens the phone is ****ed, it won't boot, so i flash back to darky 9.2 using odin. Try to upgrade to 9.3 straight away aftet the 9.2 flash and get the same errors above...
Can anyone assist please.

did you try other rom, or is it just darky?

Have you tried redownloading the rom?
EDIT: Sorry, just reread your post.... What model of phone is it?

Yep downloaded it a few times, using different computers as well.
Its an I9000 Aussie model.
I'm hoping for an odin version on 9.3 to see if that works.
Is there anything else i can try? Perhaps going back to a stock firmware, then flashing to darky's would be an idea.... or perhaps try doc's rom?

I would go to stock and then flash 9.3 with wipe

it seem that no one else have the same issue. try to
DISABLE ALL LAG FIX
re-flash Darky
you can try to flash DocRom indee,
I switch from Kitchen966 to Darky93 (+speedmod250Hz) since 2 days, both use JS5, I don't know why but I feel darky 93 is snappier and more stable than Kitchen966. (But it just 2 days of use)

Done this numerous times. Voodoo lagfix is what i run and it always fails when its disabled or enabled.

Yes and i prefer to tick repartition with a bad rom and clean everything .
Then build yourself a rom that works .

[Q] ROM backup

hi all,
i've got a problem which hopefully you guys can help me with. i rooted my i9000(2.2) with z4root and then installed oclf....
now i wanted to flash gingerbread 2.3.3, so to backup the current ROM i installed ROM manager 3.0.2.2 and did flash cwm recovery, then proceeded to 'backup current ROM' but i'm getting this screen - Android system recovery (3e) and its giving me the message that its' updating media, installing mulit-csc and install default apk-files... how can i backup the ROM? i tried searching but couldn't come up with anything useful...any help would be appreciated.. i'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to this stuff
you can't install a custom zip with 3e recovery install a kernel containing cwm or if it is easier for you a rom including it(darky resurection for example) you can also downgrade your recovery and then install cwm with rom manager(2.1 roms have 2e recovery it is even possible to downgrade it with a script)
easiest would be darkys rom with odin
do you have 3btn?
edit:btw you need clockworkmod(cwm) to do a backup

yes i've got 3btn and about the cwm it's currently unable to backup... should i install speedmod kernel?.... i'll try darky's rom like you mentioned but won't i need to backup first?
thanks for the reply
well you can't backup without cwm any kernel flashable with odin/heimdall having cwm will do it ...
with darky's resurrection you will loose all apps and everything
you should use titanium to save them but don't restore system apps in 2.3
backing up efs is a must tho...

one more question, after installing darky's rom can i upgrade to gingerbread 2.3 with kies if samsung releases the upgrade?

they aren't on by default with speedmod.
even if on it shouldn't be a problem because both kernels(you used dark voodoo with darky ?) know ext4 but it is better to deactivate it. i myself had a problem with it it didn't mount data..
if it works now you are good to go
just a tip make nandroid backup before any lagfix chance

thanks for replying gbohm.. you've been very helpful
you are very welcome.
you kept the kernel so what you flashed had no influence on your lagfix.
only if you chance ther kernel there could be problems.
if you flash a kernel better turn off lagfix (just to be safe)
in many cases there is no need to put it off but you have to know them with off you are safe to go...

[Q] Quick Q: Back to 2.3.6 from ICS

Noob question but I can't find a definitive answer from the search and want to be absolutely sure.
I'm currently on CM9 nightly builds but I'm finding it a little laggy if I do not reboot regularly and have been curious to test out the DMORE gingerbread ROM
What is the best way to do this?
Am I right in thinking that I can flash CF-Root with Odin now and then flash DMORE with cwm after that?
Do I tick repartition in ODIN?
Ta v much
Hi , you are already rooted so no need to flash new cf root.....in the op of cm9 it says that going back to gingerbread(cm7) will need flashing twice , so you could just put the new rom on your internal sd then flash it twice without reboot inbetween , after wipe of course.

Ah, so I don't even need to bother with ODIN, thats good.

EDIT: Even though in the OP of the DMORE rom it says I must already be on Gingerbread just doing two flashes will get around this?
I would probably take the safe option and downgrade to gingerbread ....but the 2 flash method should do the trick , worst that could happen would be having to go back stock through odin anyway

Yes , flash a stock Samsung gb firmware ...was worth a try.

No need to flash a full rom just flash cf-root with odin without reboot.when flashed, pull out battery.boot to recovery using 3 button combo.factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik and flash d-more.reboot.
I come back to gingerbred from the onecomisc rom one month ago, I just erased everything andput back the old bootloader before flashing gingerbread stock
Everything seems fine. 2.3.6 seems nice!

[Q] What`s the correct kernel to my device??

Hi guys. I have a I9000 and i want to install the CyanogenMod 9 on it. I`ve Already rooted my phone using the Unlock Root. However, I can`t go to the Clockworkmod recovery to install customs rooms. I tried to flash the CWM recovery using the Rom Manager app, but when i was installing, an error happened. I figured out that the problem is my kernel that is not compatible with the CWM. I know that i have to flash a compatible kernel using Odin, but which kernel should i flash??? My device is a Galaxy S I9000, 2.3.5 android, and 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVT-CL617736 kernel. Already rooted. Please someone could help me??
Thank you so much
Don't use rom manager, use Odin to flash, CWM is bundled with rooted kernel (CF-root, Semaphore)

Hi, I have the same error problem, cf root was not bundled with my own root package. I flashed to gingerbread 2.3.6 xwjw1, I also tried rom manager to flash recovery and it was successful, but when I rebooted to recovery to backup my current rom it bootes to the android (3e) recovery. As I've discovered it seems rom manager is not compatible with the xwjw1 series. How do I get the correct cf root for xwjw1? Believe me I have tried google and am scared of the things I see since "jw1" is not behind any of the cf root packages I see. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

On xwjw1 you can Odin flash as PDA Semaphore 250 tar kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14481782
Untick re-partition before flashing.
After reboot you may need to install Superuser from Play Store.
That will give you root, CWM, gingerbread ready for CM9.1

Use Odin to flash (put .tar in PDA and uncheck repartition). You can flash Semaphore JVT 1.8.0 or CF-Root v4.3

Thanks Sunny men, but OT's advice worked, I can now boot to semaphore recovery and wipe etc.
Question though, if I now flash cm9.1 rom, will I be able to boot to recovery without the holding any button combinations. What I mean is can I boot to recovery from the shutdown menu or do I need an app for it?
Also is cm9.1 the best rom for my phone? any thots guys? Thanks again.

Yes, in CM 9.1 you can boot directly to recovery from the shutdown menu. CM 9.1 is very stable and fast, so try it. And when you flash CM9 for the first time, your galaxy will go into a bootloop. Then remove the battery, put it in, go to recovery with 3-button configuration and flash it again.

Hi guys, thanks for all the help. I have flashed CM 9.1 successfully.
Everything works OK for now.
Also flashed gapps, CM 9.1 seems to be a great ROM.
I have a question though, the gapps I flashed seems to have only a few Google apps, play store and Google talk. The file size was 49mb so is that all that's in gapps or is there a hidden mode or something.
Also, sin007 I can't find any reboot to recovery from the shutdown menu, though I flashed a stable version of CM 9.1 and not a "nighty version". Could that be the reason? But no biggie, CM 9.1 comes with rom manager.
Finally I wouldn't mind any tips you guys have on making the most out of the ROM.
Thanks and all the best.
Shutdown menu - Reboot - Recovery
OK?
There is an APP on google play, sgs kernel flash, it is easier and faster than Odin. And works perfectly. I've flash the speedmod kernel and finally upgrade to cyanogenmod 9.1.
Anyone knows if this APP works on galaxy s2 (i9100)?

Weird problem when flashing new rom

Hi guys. I got a real weird problem or so.
I was on a kingdroid rom based on 4.0.4.
Everything ok, no problems, until I turn off the cellphone to take the SD card. From that moment my note just dont turn On.
The thing is I was able to go in to recovery (nice), so I flash a safe kernel. All ok.
And then after a full wipe I tried to flash a rom, and here is the weird stuff: After flash any rom, the cellphone go into restart, everything is new but surprise, am still in Kingdroid v7, even when I flash a 4.1.2 based rom.
I tried many many times, and always the same. I canĀ“t flash a new rom.
My kernel is the Philz one.
Hope someone knows what is happening.
Did you wipe data dalvik cache? If you still have issues you can wipe /system before flashing new ROM (recommended)

Hopefully someone can chime in here
you can try flashing from diffrent CMW recovery version.. try flashing speedmod 3-15 and reboot recovery and try to fullwipe and install..

Do that stock GB (pre rooted) though not ICS...in PC Odin... that way when you wipe you can do it safely in stock setup without having a custom kernel...
Then just flash whatever with Mobile Odin

So I tried with Odin, with no problems in the process, but when the phone restarts just get to "samsung galaxy note gt-n7000" and stay there.
Now even the batterie freeze
are you sure that the Odin flash was successful?
if yes, the now try to boot into recovery and do a factory reset, reboot again
Ok. good news. I tried a few times with the GB pree rooted of dr.ketan, with no positive results. So I tried with a diferent one, from sammobile. Is a stock from my country. This one works.(a little hope). Well, now the phone is crazy. super unstable. But, is something.

Yep. Odin flash was successul. With green colors and all. But at restarts the phone was freeze and no chance to get recovery mode.
As I say in previus post, now the phone turns on,but is unstable. Is a stock GB rom.
I get a lot of error messages like:
Android.proces.acore has stoped.
com.android.phone has stoped.
So the phone is unusable
ok great.. this is the time when you HAVE to somehow get into the recovery mode and do a factory reset.. coming from a ics rom will give these errors.. just needs a wipe

Question. IS safe to do a full wipe in this kernel? or do I flash a safe kernel, like speedmod??

Edit: Ok, after think about it I did it a full wipe. (I am on gb so no problems)
The phone is OK. fully working!!! omg guys. Thanks so much!

[Q] Cyanogen 10.1 back to Darky?

Got CyanogenMod 10.1.2 on my i9000 but want to go back to Darky 11 black edition because it's still the best fully loaded Rom for the i9000.
Tried the full wipe, and mounts, followed by flashing the DarkyRom, but it keeps failing and going back to Cyan.

What errors did you get ??? some screenshots would help....:good:
Didn't do a back up of Darky bacause I've tried a few Roms since then (GamerzRom was a recent one).
As for the error, it's not an error as such. I have the Darkys Rom zip and when I try to install it via Recovery, it starts "preparing" and then the phone reboots back to recovery.
Maybe I need to flash a stock rom via Odin and then go to Darky?

darky rom and cm10.1.2 have different memory partitions...old one and new....you need to flash stock 2.36 jvu via odin to change partitions then darky rom on the top of stock
