[Q] Is My Battery Dead? - HD2 Accessories

So i woke up this morning and i forgot to charge my HD2, i had just rooted it a few days ago running smoothly on Core Droid. but when i tried to charge it, it didnt . no light was showing. before i had this incident the battery would run out quickly. When i try to plug it in to the charger nothing happens, and a few times it would shwo the boot screen then suddently shut down and now that doesnt happen anymore. Do i have to get a new battery?

Running Android may mean that your phone might not shut down before the battery protection circuit activates, to prevent destruction of the cell.
Once this happens the standard charger may not be able to charge this battery, although I have read that removing the battery from the phone for a couple of hours and trying again might work - do some searching on xda.
If you have access to other micro-usb chargers then give them all a go, one might work - or you may have to replace the battery.

Also try removing the battery whist it plugged into the charger then leave it as advised above

Good idea. After this you have to charge the phone for 100% before turning it on again (just leave it overnight)
Then turn it on, let it drain completely until it dies.
This way you have re-calibrated the battery and you might get better battery life.
Apart from that, you can try the one-in-a-million power saving tips.

Tilt battery voltage not sensed by phone?

I have this strange problem that just cropped up. After a full recharge the other day the battery showed normal draining. When I tried to recharge it wouldn't; neither from the wall charger or usb by computer. So the battery showed steady drain unless charging, but never got more charge. Finally when turning on the phone on battery alone it shows 1% charge, and there's nothing I can do about it, the phone will turn itself off.
Diagnostics: I measured the battery voltage and it is ~4.2 volts. This seems like a full battery yet the phone doesn't see it.
I measured the voltage at the battery terminals in the phone while hooked up to charger which was ~4.2 volts. So it seems the battery is being charged.
Why is the phone not seeing the battery charge? Is the battery dead even though it measures 4.2v?
I did run the gps before this happened using gps tool, bit I think I turned it all off. Anyway more than one soft reset didn't help.
Thanks,
Ed

No real answer here but perhaps something to try:
I am dealing with another member who has a similar problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377675&page=2 From post 17 onward.
With battery in, the orange charge light comes on and all seems normal. However with a few seconds of turning on the message that the main battery is critcally low comes up and the phone turns off. He has tried another battery with the same result. This happens even with the charger connected.
(EDIT: I have now read that his has - for no obvious reason started to work ok - Now even more convinced it's a charging circuit lock-up issue - given time and possibly a bit of battery fiddling and it comes good in the end - see No 2 below)
Now I'm wondering whether this could be one of two things:
1.
A hardware fault - possibly in the charging circuit or more crudely one of the battery circuit board connectors is not connecting.
OR
2.
The circuit that controls charging has to put it crudely become "stuck" in a similar fashion to those who get the RLOD red LED showing when they connect the charger. A commonly accepted trick for overcoming the RLOD is to connect the charger and wriggle the battery on and off the four contact pins. This presumably has the effect of forcing the charging circuit to re-set itself. I just wonder whether it might have the same effect in your situation.
Mike
hey.. that would be me with the similar issue.
i just tried a couple more things.. check out the thread.
More info.
Battery in and out holding the power button had no effect. Phone runs fine while plugged in. Plug it in and after 5 seconds the amber LED turns to red. While plugged in the red led will flash amber every so often.
I measured the battery voltage as I turned the phone on, it dropped to ~ 3.98v, then came back to 4.1v as the phone turned itself off. It gets all the way to my Today screen before going off. Just sitting in the phone with it off is 4.1v. Hook up the charger and the battery sees 4.18 and rising after 20 seconds. These are direct measurements at the battery terminals while in the phone.
So this looks like a software issue to me. The phone is charging the battery and there is plenty of power to run the phone, the phone somehow doesn't see it that way. It sees a dead battery. Well, I guess it could be a voltage sensor gone bad , somewhere somehow. Next step is to hard reset and see if it makes any difference.
edit: While plugged in and the screen on, the led stays amber. When the screen goes off(set for 2 minutes) the led turns red. Screen back on, led amber. I just set the screen not to go off while plugged in(charging), we'll see. The power is showing 7% now and says charging, too early to tell if it's rising or not.
edit 2: It stayed on the charger for several hours and never moved past 7%. Tried a hard reset with no luck. Next step is to send it to a repair shop(I bought it used) and hopefully spend only the $95-$125 they quoted.
Will keep you apprised.

Att Tilt Power/Battery Issues.
I am having somewhat similar issues with my Tilt, with the power/battery problems as described previously. I woke up this morning, and attempted to turn my phone on, and it wouldnt come on at all. I then plugged it into the ac adapter, and the LED comes on, and goes green. I waited a few moments, then powered the phone on to take a look at the battery life, and the phone boots up, then reboots during the splash screen. After it reboots itself, I check the battery indicator and it shows 1%. If I exit the battery screen, and re-enter it, it will say 100%. Now, as soon as I remove the charger from the system, it automatically powers down. I played with it for about 15 minutes, but needed to head to work, so I took the phone with me, and attempted to use my car charger. Same problem. Now, I figured, fine, I'll see how it behaves while I am at work, so I brought my charger to work, and have it plugged in at my desk, and if I leave it plugged in and on, it stays on for about 5 minutes, then automatically reboots. LED stays green, but phone will not stay on, if unplugged, or plugged in for longer than 5 minutes. I have never dropped it, and have babied the phone like no other, concidering I paid $400 for it. I'm a little bummed out, but cant determine if its a battery or hardware problem. Any advice/input for me from any of you guys? before I head to the ATT store, and cry for a new phone? Thanks a bunch for any responses to this.
*UPDATE* After I got off work, I went into my local ATT store, explained the situation, and was given a brand new replacement phone in like 10 minutes. I was under 30 days owning it, so he just swapped it out, barley any questions asked. (altho i explained my situation in detail as it was). So.... hopefully it doesnt happen again, or else I'll have to use the warranty. Anyways, Any insight on what may cause this would always be helpful for both myself and the community. =)
new news
EDIT: They got it Monday and I got it back Friday. Good turnaround! They fixed the problem, it works perfectly now. I recommend these people.
Ed
Sent it off to Cell Phone Repair(CPR) in Chicago that gave me an estimate of $95 (inc. ship. back) based on my description. They just called and told me it was corrosion around and in the power/usb port. They got it yesterday and will send it back repaired tomorrow with a 90 day warranty. No more saunas for this phone(it was only one! )
I'll let you know if they work out well or not.

Strange charging problem

I installed ICS RUU some weeks ago and all has been well.
All of a sudden now when I plug in the wall charger it takes about 30s or so for the charge led to light up or for the phone to indicate that it is being charged. Likewise when the wall charger is unplugged it also takes some time for the charge indicator to go out with the phone still thinking its being charged.
With the USB cable the PC ding dongs immediately but the charge led will take 30s or so before it turns on and I no longer get the prompt for charge only, HTC sync etc.
In all instances the battery does eventually charge fully.
I have rebooted the phone but same problem.
Any ideas what's going on here?
SOLVED.
I removed and refitted the battery. Back to normal.
Thought I would leave the complete post with solution in case someone else experiences the same problem.
i'm having a problem where i put my battery in (think its completely drained)
the light for charging will flash for about 5 sec then go off
try reinserting again. this time it blinks for a bit goes solid then off after a few sec
try one more time this time its solid for about 5 sec then off again. best i can get it to do. if i do this about 10-15 times the screen led light comes on then off and thats it.
any ideas? is there a way to charge it without it in the phone?
@WK - you could try resetting battery stats. I believe that option is available in CWM custom recovery.
I've seen aftermarket batteries and chargers for the Vivid on eBay.
-RKA
Yes there are inexpensive chargers that you can get for these batteries on Ebay. You may even want to get one including a battery.
Having said this have you tried charging using a USB cable from the PC?
You may have a faulty battery or a faulty charger port both of which should be covered by your warranty.
try this too
try plugging the phone in without the battery connected, boot it up that way if it will let you, and then insert the batt while the phone is on..let it charge for a bit.. and see if that helps. Not the safest method, but it almost sounds like you've got the older recovery with the phone off charge issue.
Hope you get it figured out.
EDIT: Don't bother..i just tried it won't boot that way. I was assuming that it might go both ways, bc i know when the phone is on you can pull the batt and as long as its plugged it it stays on.

[HELP] Flashing Orange LED Light, followed by no light at all.

Ok basically I had my first battery drained completely (my phone was around 1 year ++).
I've been experiencing battery drains on my phone such that it is discharging faster than it chargers and I also realized that I'm unable to connect to the PC/ unable to mount SD card.
Knowing that my problem exists, I went on to a repair shop and they replaced my port for $S90 SGD. After replacing my port, I was happy that my phone can finally be connected to my PC without any problems..
Until one day, I realized my phone was discharging faster and soon it reaches 0% on my screen. I quickly plugged in the AC wall adapter and continuing using (by right it shouldn't go flat). To my surprise it went flat and I couldn't charge my battery at all, I was having the Orange LED light.
So I went to the repair shop again and they sort of bumped my battery up and charged my phone. Seeing that my battery discharges faster than it charges, they told me they my battery is damaged and so I went on to get a new battery...
New battery came, I plugged in, turned my phone on successfully without any problems. Battery was at 65%. I left it few hours to charge and WTF my battery turns to 19% and eventually flatten out again .
Now here's the thing.
My 1st battery, (Totally unable to charge, No blinking orange LED)
My 2nd battery, when I leave it for a few hours (I plugged it in and there's orange LED), and soon there's not even an orange LED light anymore.
I really do not know what the hell is wrong with my phone. I'm so disappointed. I just thought that it might not be my battery's problem because a brand new battery shouldn't have any problems..
Really need some advice noww :crying:
Gonna cry. Wth is wrong with my phone?!

You might have apps that are drawing too much current, a charger that's not supplying enough or is not recognized as ac charging.
Install current widget or something similar to see both how fast your battery is draining and how much current the charger is supplying.

My old Inc S did the same thing as what your describing, and the charger port was faulty. I had to wiggle the cord into the perfect position to get it to charge, and even then it only actually charged half the time. Got it replaced by bell.
When you plug your charger cord in, does it wiggle a lot to the left or right? As in more that it normally should?

The problem is I can't even turn on my phone at all to install any apps because my battery is completely drained. I just don't get it how come my phone drains the battery faster than it charges. Perhaps it's my charger not supplying enough power .
It's my second battery already and I'm now sure that it is not a battery problem.
Should I change an adapter (like maybe the iPhone adapter head) and use my usb cable to charge my phone. Will it provide more current

Well, I am not sure whether if it was charging port that was fault. It indeed charged when I tried my 2nd battery when it first came it had 65%. I went on to charge it and the percentage drops when it was charging (when the phone is off) . Perhaps it's not the apps that are draining all the current.
My phone is losing current... My 2nd battery is also completely drained off after sometime and I'm unable to on my phone. Irritating max.
My charging port just got replaced because I cannot mount my SD to the computer and I had it replaced and I was able to connect to the computer and LED indicates it charges.
What could be the other reasons that my phone is losing current? I'm not sure about hardware parts, but maybe perhaps it's the charging gland or whatever things inside the phone that is damaged?
Leave charger plugged in while light flashing. If the light goes off unplug and plug again. You might need to do a few times but the orange light should stay on eventually. Let it charge a while before switching back on. Good luck.

I can't charge the phone turned on

Hi, I have a problem namely battery will not charge at on the phone. In the phone, the battery is kept constant at the same level, in the case where charging leave for the night reaches 100%, but Without the charger immediately decreases to the level before charging. I tried to charge the phone battery different levels, but nothing. It charges only when the phone is off.
Currently I have the room

Sorry it was unnecessary on my part. No I did not check, and how to do it?
After your help, I cleaned the file again and to my surprise the battery was loading and recharge to 86% and further something not want to charge. Then I left my phone charger at night and Without the charger has dropped to 54%. Battery Calibration gives 54%.

Shutdown your phone and then put off your battery, and see if this is inflated, maybe your battery is dead :S
and..I'd advice you don't leave overnight charging your device, this may break your device's battery
Thanks a lot Viper The Ripper for all the help.
Problem solved, the battery can not be saved and had to buy a new one. Subject to closing
However, the problem is not solved, I put new battery recharge up to 100%, acted a little state has declined to 87% wanted to recharge again with curiosity and an hour remained at this level that the problem may be in the USB cable, charger, I tried to recharge the phone connection laptop unfortunately nothing. Any advice ?

P9 won't charge after battery replacemnet

So like the title said i have replaced the battery in my P9, with an original battery. It has the same part number and all that. I have noticed that the phone won't charge the replacement battery, i have returned the new battery in warranty and revived another one. Same thing, the phone starts up as soon as you plug in any kind of power source to it , like a charger, but no charging notification. The notification light pulses in rare intervals (some thing of 10 secs or more) but it's not steadily on like when normally charging. And the most vexing thing is : if i replace the original battery it charges. Unfortunately the the original battery now has the bad habit of cutting out on me at random from anywhere 47% or bellow .... The phone is nearly 3 year old now.
Have you given the new batteries some time to charge? Maybe they were delivered to you fully discharged.
First one was on 85% the second on 60% or so. I kept the 1st one on charger for a whole weekend... Still nothing
Have you tried to callibrate the original battery (you say it suddenly drops if below 40%)?
Yes, I have allowed the battery to run down to 3% and the phone turning itself off. Then fully charged it while being off. So the original battery is just plain old, nearly 3y old. The problem is that the phone refuses to charge the new batteries regardless of original charge. Also it turns automatically on when you plug in a charger, not just showing the charge animation. That is not normal behavior.

I've done that after reading you'r message , but i have already done the steps not req root. And i'm not willing to root my phone.
P9 also not charging
Did you manage to find a resolution to this issues? I'm having the same problem with my P9. I changed my battery, and it now won't charge. It turns on ok, and everything seems to be working. When I plug in the charging cable, it makes the sound it usually does, the battery symbol flashes green but instantly turns white again. When the phone is off, plugging the cable in switches it on, but no charge. I've had two replacement batteries, both have the same issue. Also, the original battery is now doing the same. I'm wondering if I damaged something while removing the battery.

I think it's problem in charging IC or port.
Hi all
Had same issue with replacement battery
After replacement battery isn't charging. Problem is in bad connections
(probably from long shelf storage connectors got rusty)
Voltage was fine but temperature reading was way off (very low -2) and phone didn't charge battery
Problem is that there was no error message about battery temp.
After cleaning the contactors battery reading became normal and it started charging
Anybody ever had any solution to this problem? I have the same issue. Battery replaced - not taking any charge. If micro USB charger plugged in - the phone turns on. If it is already turned on plugging in the charger the screen flashes the % of the charge and nothing.
