USB Car charger for extra battery? - Droid Incredible Accessories

Does anybody know of a usb charger that could be used to charge an extra battery outside of the phone? I say USB because it could be used with the AC chargers and USB car adapters that I already have quite a few of.

Adapter-free Charger and Sync cables?

I'm looking for cables for charging and syncing my titan without the stupid adapters that come with it. I hate the combined plug for the headphones adn mini-usb. I don't want to have to tote around the adapter. Does anybody know where I can find these? I'd like a car charger, a sync cable, and maybe a wall plug charger. All depends on the price for what and how much I buy.
no adapter needed
You can directly plug the charger into the phone, the only reason the adapter has an odd shape is to keep you from plugging it into other usb devices.
I use my car charger from my 6700 with no problem.
I thought the same as you, then figured out you can plug mini usb directly into phone.
wow, I feel a little stupid right now, but just a little bit because that wasn't exactly obvious. I'm really happy about that now though. That means the only real point of frustration is having to use two adapters to get to normal headphones or buy a new adapter. I'm just happy I can car charge and use a normal synce cable with no adapter. Thanks man, that's a big help.
I wouldnt charge my mogul in the car cause its so much easier to weaken your batter when charging inside a car

Can you explain this? I'm an electrical engineer, so I should understand any reasoning that you know of for this. I would think that all the charger is is a DC plug with a regulator to keep it from going over the rated 3.7 volts. Is the current higher than the wall plug? I don't get how this would work?

Only thing I could think of is that it charges at a higher amperage and that in turn makes the battery hotter. I compared my HTC wall charger with the USB car adapter I use and they have the same current and voltage.

Is this car adapter safe for use with the Tilt?

I just found this at Newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16855999185
Think it's safe to use?
Why not this one: http://store.xda-developers.com/xproduct.php?xProd=725&xSec=22
It works and is both USB Car & Home Charger
that is an interesting charger! yet, the question remain, is it safe? lol
I just bought something like that from walmart....You have to assume that if it has USB ports on it for charging then it puts out the 5v that USB is supposed to and so it "should" work. That said, I dont know for sure but I think its a good bet it wll.
Agree with the above post. Often these chargers will output approx 5V but only 500mA compared to the standard mains chrger at 1000mA.
I doubt, unless someone has one, that anyone will say for sure it is safe, if only because sometimes there can be problems with these kinds of charger where it will only charge when the device is off for example. Having said this it's very unlikely it will harm your Kaiser.

I have a car charger that is basically a USB plugging into the Cig Lighter with max output of 1000mA. When purchasing these it is always a good idea to contact the seller and verify the Max Output.
As for downside, it has the same limitations as charging from your PC USB i.e. generally they won't charge a battery under a critical (usually 10%) level or completely dead for that you need the OEM Wall Charger.
I have 4 of the wall/car chargers and have used them for at least 4 years or so on 3-4 different devices. One is from boxwave and the other three are from another vendor whose name currently escapes me. I've never had a problem with any of my devices and, at least for me, they charge well and fairly quickly.

Um... The incredible has a micro-usb port. You can't shove a mini in there.
And the answer is yes and NO. The charge voltage is always the same but different phones use different methods to get signaled for charging. For instance the iphone uses 2.7V across pins 2,3 to signal and 5V across 1,4 as I recall.
You won't do damage using the wrong one though. It just won't work and you'll scratch your head.

His question still asked if he could use a mini usb charger for this phone, and no, he cant. The incred uses a micro-usb port, where a mini will just not fit.

Umm, no he asked "Does anyone know if all mini usb car chargers are the same voltage? Can i use any mini usb cig charger i have?" and larsdennert's answer was a direct answer to that exact question.
so this thing is a micro usb like the blackberry? gonna buy a big pack of usb cables for it and I don't wanna buy the wrong ones.

the cable you should buy would then be USB A to micro B. Monoprice is sold out- I ended up buying from Amazon, but the shipping was a bit ridiculous
I just ended up getting a charger from wal-mart that was labeled for a Motorola, but it works fine since it is a micro USB
I have alot of motorola mini usb chargers... I bought a micro usb adapter for 6 bucks from radio shack... it charges and works as far as I can tell... only thing I notice is that the motorola is 5v-550mA not 5v-1A ... I dontk know if this will have any long term effect on the batteries... I think it just makes it charge slower
I don't know the difference between micro and mini, but I hope I can use the car charger I recently purchased for my Touch Pro for my new D.I.
I tried using the BB brand car charger and I got a message on my Dinc that I this manufacture was not compatible with the Dinc. WTF?
I've had no problems using any car charger that allows either changing tips (igo) or has a USB port so you plug the correct cable in. I even have an Apple car charger that works as long as I use the correct USB cable.
But now a slightly different question....
I notice the Incredible WALL charger says 5v at 1A, and my WALL chargers for Apple are 5v .5 A, so I assume the Apple charger works for Incredible, only slower charge, but is it same to use the Incredible Charger for the Incredible? I hate traveling with a zillion chargers.

Car Charger Question

Ok, so I took my Inc on it's first run yesterday as a full-time GPS. It sat in the Verizon dock, plugged into my Griffin dual-port USB cig. lighter adapter.
It made the entire 3.5 hour trip, but when I got there, and removed the phone from the charger, it was at 9%. It had started at 100%. So, obviously, the 5V .5A that the Griffin outputs is not enough to run the GPS and at least maintain charge.
Does anyone know where to get a 5V 1A car charger? Unfortunately, most manufacturers don't even list the amperage output of their devices either online, or even on the packaging!
Thanks,
Doc

sounds like you might be best off with a power inverter and a wall adapter. or you could buy a car that has a 2 prong outlet in it like mine

As an EE that's really inefficient. Belkin USB Micro Charger does 5V @ 1A max. It's marketed as an iPhone/iPod car charger but it does work for the Incredible since it doesn't have any fancy charger lockouts. There is also a 2 output version with a 1A and 500mA plug.

non-dash charging?

Am I right in assuming that I can charge the phone with any old usb charger and usb c to a cable? Would like to be able to have a spare setup plus I travel to mainland Europe quite a lot so would need a different charger there.

Yes, it would be a problem if that weren't true.
So you are saying that I can (but won't get the speed)?

It works perfectly fine with the charger of my old ASUS Nexus 7.
Charges fine plugged in to the USB on my laptop at work, just a lot slower as you would expect.

using the old oneplus one charger shouldnt be a problem then right?
whats more healthy for the battery, dash charging or charging it slowly (old/different charger + random usb-c cable)?

Charging a lithium battery slower is always better.
Do you need to use a non-dash usb-c cable to use other chargers? I tried it with the dash usb-c cable but my old Samsung charger and powerbank do not work.
in general i also think its better to load with lower speed - therefore i bought a additional loader with 2A. But i read somewhere, that the DASH charging will not heat so much. How this should be possible if this is true?

Dash charging does not heat up the phone because the needed components for high-speed charging are in the wall adapter itself.

ah okay, so for batterie its better to charge slowly - but for the smartphone itself dash charge would be better? i guess i will load my phone anyway only if really needed with dash
