[Q] Spotify storage. - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't get Spotify to use the external microSD 16GB card to store my offline music. I've been in contact with Spotify's support and they told me that the app automatically selects the largest storage unit by default. Still after factory resets and re-formating of the microSD card Spotify still stores everything on the internal SD card for some reason.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Thanks in advance!

Hi.
I had the same problem and spent ages searching for an answer until I found this link on the spotify forum.
All you need to do is uninstall Spotify download the version from the link below, install it, then sync. It works!!

Media doens't update!

Ok it's getting annoying for me now. i put some songs, some wallapapers on my sd. but when i'm going to gallery it doens't show up there, even if i removed a image it still there in thumbnail (not the picture itself, so doensn't load). Ok now i want to listen music but they don't show up.
What did i try:
1. Reboot: i tried rebooting couple of time no luck.
2. ES explorer: the images/music is there i can see them. opening a picture shows black screen i have ot wait a long time to make them show up, and if they do i can't do anything with them. For music i can play them by selecting them but no info shows up, it just plays.
3. reload sd card: i reloaded so many times the sd card.
4. different gallery app: i tried other gallery apps but no luck.
Ok what's weird any change doing with the shows up like taking picture. moving a image makes it show up in the gallery. But when i try it from the pc it doesn't show up i didn't try a wipe and don't wan't to do a wipe.
I'm using CM5.0.8T5 with Froyo Radio
Does anyone know what i can do?
I have the same issue with my N1. I got a bigger SD card and decided to put music on my card. When I went into the music app it only listed like 10 of the 2 hundred songs I had put on (which I'm sure un-coincidentally were the songs I had on my old SD card). I tried restarts, I tried removing the SD and reinserting hoping it would re-read. My best guess it's a caching issue, but I'm not really sure. I tried resyncing with DoubleTwist (I'm on a Mac) and the ironic part is my music app detected the new songs, but the DoubleTwist app still only detected the old 10 songs.
Also when I take pics with the camera they sometimes takes a few minutes to even appear in the gallery app, to view them in the meantime I have to go into the camera app and click on the preview icon.
I'm with you on this one... is there any answer to this?
i just noticed this too started the other day, but though nothing of it until i saw this thread.
Now you got ME thinking...

Thnx just tried it but no luck
I forgot to mention i have a 16GB Sd card.
I just last night had a similar issue with songs stored on my 16GB SD card.... I added a bunch, and they didn't change. I changed ID3 tags on others, and they also didn't change. I tried pretty much every suggestion I could find.
How did I finally fix it?
I moved all the songs out of their subfolders and into a new "MUZAK" folder on the root of the SD card. I also deleted all the hidden (.prefix) folders on the SD card that I thought might have anything to do with storing information on the tracks on the card, and also deleted all the data files for the stock and third-party media players on the internal storage. Rebooted, and it seems to have picked up all the tracks. Of course, if I add to it, it probably will fail again...
But this is apparently a well-known issue with the Android Media Scanner service.... it just quits working. It apparently takes some drastic stuff to make it work again.
edit: As a followup, I added a few albums to the SD card and they populated correctly. It'll be interesting to see how long this behavior lasts...
Thnx changing the name worked, don't know for how long.
some songs still miss id3tag even if they are there
Ok just Wipe cache in recovery and media update works again.
SDRescan from the market always works for me.
I should never wiped the cache.. my super duper batterylife got fecked. Horrible.. Arrrrgh!!! down to 74% after 4 hours..

[Q] Doubletwist and removable SD

Is there any way to get Doubletwist to recognize and store my files on the removable SD instead of the phone's internal "media area"? I'm filling up the latter quite fast, while the external card is nearly empty. I can't find any setting in DT that lets you choose where to store music on the device.
I know that Doubletwist's publisher has been promising a "fix" for about five months now, but I figured someone here might have come up with something on their own.
Any help appreciated. TIA
Alternatively, any recommendations on a player with desktop iTunes sync functionality and flexibility in storage locations on the Bionic?
This is a known issue with the Bionic and DoubleTwist. I submitted a ticket with Doubletwist support, and they confirm that the software is not working properly with ExternalSD on the Bionic.
I uploaded my DeviceID information for them, and the support agent promised that it would be fixed in the next release. They offered no workaround. Sorry
I've been using Songbird with MediaSync to get around the issue, but it does no transcoding, which is less-than-ideal.
It's because Moto made /sdcard the internal memory and /sdcard-ext the external as opposed to the normal /emmc and /sdcard for internal and external respectively.
This problem is shared with the x2 and d3 and there is a fix, I"m just not sure if it was adapted to the Bionic yet.

I use Easy Phone Tunes Plus on my Bionic and it works fine for me. Easy Phone Tune has a free version that you can try to see if you like it. It's also available for PC or Mac.
Thanks for the info!
@kraamerica, does Easy Phone Tunes Plus store files on sd-ext? That's my bigger issue, really: Even with syncing only a portion of my music, I run out of space quickly. Kind of a bite to have the SD card there and not be able to use it.

I will look this afternoon when I get back to my PC. That's where you control the syncing and it's pretty good and letting you choose what you want to sync (including podcasts) I just can't remember if there is a "where".
When you 1st establish a connection through the setting's of the Easy Phone Application, it will show your "2" phones (one is your internal, the other external). You would chose the 2nd "phone" unless you have the SD card swap in place.
Then you go through the rest of what you what synced in the next section of the setup and you are good to go. Or so I would hope.

Howto play recorded video???

Hello,
I have just recorder a movie with my wp8 device and cannot find where to view it on the phone.
Do not tell me I cannot do this...
Where is it? In photos/camera roll is not, in music&videos is not. Where is it??
P.S just found out that on a longer video, the SD card stores the video but it appears as used space on Others, and it's missing from Photos/camera roll
Use the Music+Videos hub.
RE:
Got it solved. the problem was my SDcard, the movies weren't saved. I have formatted my microsd card in the phone and now it works.

Photos, Music, Videos on SDcard by default?

I haven't had a phone with an SDcard for quite awhile now and on my wife's old Razr i there was no way to get pictures/music/videos to be saved on the SDcard by default, moving them for storage space became a hassle. Does the Z3c have a way to set Pictures/Music/Videos to be saved onto the SDcard by default?

I believe most camera apps have the option now to store the files on an external card. I guess that would go for pictures and videos.
I'm not sure what you mean by music.
There is no default music on the phone, so anything you put on the phone will probably come from yourself (And you can choose where to store it soooo )

Do you have a Z3c to check the camera has a setting to store to the SDcard? As far as music I'm referring to things like Play Music, Slacker/Beats/Spotify/etc music subscriptions that allow you to cache songs to storage for offline playback when you have a subscription.

Thanks appreciate it, I know it's painfully slow to transfer large amounts of pictures/music files from internal to SDcard so hoping you get to choose the location first.
Can you please check the camera settings also.
Both play music and the camera app have options to set the default location as the SD card.

About Spotify and such, I've got no idea since I prefer to always have my music with me and not to rely on streaming services.

Give Spotify a chance all the music you want for sonly some bucks a month and you can even download it to your computer/tablet/mobile so you can listen to it even when you are offline (all with one account).. so good.

So what's the difference between downloading my music and using something like Spotify?
I just love having my 60+gb music with me at all time. Especially when being out of the country, not having to rely on an internet connection (Talking about the streaming part only ofc)

I like it because of the playlists and that I have the same songs on all my devices without having to sync them - that's all
Also, the music is (kinda) already there, you don't have to download it
(sorry for the off-topic!)

Yeah if you have multiple devices then I can understand it.
I only have my phone as a portable device.
I've got all of my songs on my phone and pc, so that if one fails I still have a back up.

Just format the SDCard through the phone and you'll have the best possible format.

Thanks for confirming that.
Can Apps be installed in the SD card? Seems Sony only has this feature for lower end phones. I have not seen evidence the Z3c allows to move apps to the SD. I am guessing that will be under Settings-->Apps-->(select an app?)
Thanks
***Update***
So it seems the answer is NO.

I read yesterday that Google is bringing back more "open" access to the SD card again via Lollipop. Finally!
not sure if this was resolved, but you can transfer all photos, video s and music to the SD card via Settings > Storage > Transfer Data to SD card.
Not sure if this means all future music will automatically go there. Can anyone confirm?

There is a periodic check to see if your internal memory is over 75% full. When it is, you get prompted to use this Sony Utility. Unfortunately for me my picture transfer fails (even though I have my camera app set to save it to SD Card). Which is how I ended up in this thread.
I'm living with this only because i know it will change once we get Lollipop.
Photos on the SD card
The problem I'm having is I accidently clicked my SD card for my photo storage and then I realized what happened and changed it back to internal memory storage but now all the photos I took while it was set to the SD option I can't find them now. I'm fairly certain I checked all the folders and the 10 or so photos I took are nowhere to be found.

Is there any way to force all downloaded movies to be stored only in my 128GB SDcard?

I have one New BLU-R1/16GB and also a BLU-R1/8GB, and I have installed on each of them 128GB MicroSD Memory Cards.
Neither of my 2 BLU cell phones is rooted, and after selecting to use my MicroSD card as an SD-Card, I successfully moved all my APPs, except the systems ones, to this SD-Card...
But although I have 128GB of memory in each cellphone, I noticed that if I download a movie using the "Amazon Video" APP, this file is always stored in the internal memory and not in the SD-Card memory.
Does anyone know if there is any way to force all downloaded movie files to be stored only in this 128GB memory, using the Amazon Video APP?
Thanks in advance!
I have noticed that the latest update v4.13.1 (build 14562) of the Netflix APP, allows to save the downloaded movies on the external SD card, anyone can tell if this is possible on the BLU R1 using the Amazon Video APP?:
"- SD Card support.
New "Download Location" app setting that lets you control where to save downloaded content: Internal Storage or SD Card (new permission requested)"
As I mentioned before, I would like to force all downloaded movies, using the Amazon Video APP, to be stored only in my 128GB External SD Card... So I would greatly appreciate if someone can help me with this matter...
Thanks in advance!
