How to forcefully uninstall an app

Hello all, after some problems with app2sd i reinstalled my apps via a simply backup of my apk files in system/sd/app.
Anyway I was unable to restore some apps, in particular those that had a .zip extension and not an .apk extension. The problem is that Market/Download controls in such situation are disabled, so i can't uninstall/reinstall nothing.
Waiting some days for the upgrade of each app, i was able to restore all apps meno one. The application is the free SunMoon (com.jw.SunMoon).
I 've tried to:
sign com.jw.SunMoon.zip to try a reinstall but adb install com.jw.SunMoon.apk returns Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT]
delete /system/sd/app/com.jw.SunMoon.zip
delete the directory /data/data/com.jw.SunMoon
edit /data/system/packages.xml removing all entry for com.jw.SunMoon
But nothing changed, i'm unable to reinstall SunMoon via Market so far.
Any ideas????

adb uninstall?

Delete the apps you having problems with, then reinstall them. You can use SUFB app from the market or rootexplorer also from the market...

I already delete manually app, dex, odex, data app and any pointers in /data/system/packages.xml.
Anyway the Market app continues to be blocked, i can't uninstall, install or reinstall SunMoon. The only one thing that unblock the market app is an application upgrade, so i can push the upgrade button and install a new copy.
I don't know how to eventually use the com.jw.SunMoon.zip i backupped from /system/sd/app, android tell me it's unsigned (Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES]), but trying to sign and install, will return Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT] .

What rom are you running ???/
If its enomther's rom you need to delete the app from the expstick in system/sd <>>> Cause in additon to the system/sd/app he has system/sd/expstick/app also (I think its part of his VM system ) thats all i can think of ....

I have cyan 4.2.3.1.

How about removing the .dex file from your /data/dalvik-cache directory?
Also check your /data/app-private out.

The app do not installs in /app-private (/data/app-private; /system/sd/app-private) , I'm sure.
Anyone know if i forgot some configurations file to edit?

Why some apps installs like a .zip file?

I'm having this exact same issue, and it's happened to me every time I use Backup for Root Users. If I restore just the APKs, nothing ending in .zip gets restored. If I also restore the Market db (so I can get updates), I get the same thing you got, with disabled Open and Uninstall buttons in the Market. I know I have no references to any of the apps anywheres. Specifically, I'm trying to restore Twidgit Lite. Anybody have any answers?

Just in case anyone's curious, I fixed the problem. Copy /data/data/com.android.vending/databases/assets.db to my computer, then open it with a sqlite client. Search in the assets10 table for the row where package_name matches one of the previously mentioned problem applications, then update the row by changing the state field to 'UNINSTALLED'. Push the assets.db file back to its original location, and either reboot or force close the Market app (using Taskiller or what have you). When you reopen Market, the problem apps will now allow installation.

hold on, i was about to make a thread asking how to uninstall apps like amazon mp3 or the stock calculator. Is this how you do it or is there an easier method?

No, the stock apps are in /system/app, just delete the apk and your set.

Hey, I cannot find that folder on my sd card. I am assuming that it is hidden or something, could someone tell me how to find this folder and delete the useless apps?

/system/ is not /sdcard/

After completely formatting my phone for Marshmallow I have noticed that my system partition does not have any free space
However I want to do the following -
Adaway - Install latest host files (says not enough free space)
Install Busybox
Install BetterBatteryStats as a system app (says not enough free space)
Install Cerberus as a system app (says not enough free space)
My current partitions look like this:

Yep cheers mate.
Installed Hellscore kernel (elemental doesn't have system r/w access) then removed some google apps to make some space. Seems to be working now!

Cool stuff

Since xposed and gravitybox are available on mm now, I finally switched to it as a daily driver. I had the same problem with not enough space on the system partition. My solution was to flash the opengapps stock package in recovery. It left me with over 400mb of space on the system partition, as well as having all of my gapps updated.

It's funny that if you build AOSP and add full gapps, it's still about 1GB while the factory image is almost a complete 2GBs.

So if an app is unnecessary, it is save to delete it form /system? There's no odex / deodex concerns?

I only use Android occasionally so I'm not up to date on this stuff. What is opengapps? I googled it but I don't see the point and they're not explaining. Is it open source implementation of google apps? Is the point that it's smaller? How is it smaller if it's not open source? When you installed it, it deleted the stock apps and that's how it saved you space?

I find the answer to one of my questions. I took a backup and just started deleting and it's still booting fine so seems to be okay.

I safely uninstalled the keyboards in languages I don't know, as well as docs, sheets, and slides. That left me with more than enough room to install my extras.
As for the opengapps, they are another provider of gapps packages for custom roms. I'm not sure if it's in all packages or just this one, but there is a script that allows the package to be flashed over a stock rom. From what i can tell, it simply replaces the odexed apps with deodexed (and updated) versions of the same app. I'm not sure if there are any other changes that account for the extra space, but I haven't had any issues.

All of the ones I asked. At this point, if I had to guess, it's the plain google closed source apps, but installed to the sdcard instead of system. I essentially did that manually. Deleted all the google apps that are on the play store. Gave me about 500MB free space.

i have the same problem,the system should be 1.9g while after flash a lite rom（1.4G）,the system has only 100m free, which means the system partation become to 1.5G.

My looks like this:

And i have supersu and some apps say u dont have supersu permissions

Delete some unused system apps. I can't advice you to which apps, but I'd guess there are some unused foreign language keyboard you can remove. Remove with a file explorer that recognises your root (see below), Titanium backup or any app for specifically removing system apps (there are a few).
The problem with SuperSU might be that you're using version 2.71 in systemless mode and there are a number of apps (ES file explorer for example) that have problems with that. It's up to the app developer to fix their code. Another fix for you could be to go back to an earlier version of SuperSU. If this is your problem, that is.

I removed supersu 2.71 and instal 2.65 stable version
Now i have 400mb free space in system and 25mb in system/bin without delet any thing
My busy box installed in su/bin? is it important busybox location in system or system/xbin?

Can't restore encrypted Titanium Backup backup from Google Drive on new phone

Hi guys,
first of all, I'm german and dont know if i translate all Titanium Backup texts right. So sorry if you dont understand everything, but I try my best
Now, i got a little problem here. I've used Titanium Backup on my S3 to create an encrypted backup of my apps and sync it to Google Drive. Several days ago my S3 did break and I bought a new one, a Nexus 6. Now I wanted to restore my Apps from the backup. What I did first is to sync the backup files from my Google Drive via Titanium Backup. That went fine and made no problems at all. Via a file browser I can see the backup files on my phone. The path to the backup folder is set right in Titanium Backup. I can also verify the backup files in TB succesfully with the passphrase. But when I try to batch restore the backups I cant. In TB in the list with all these batch actions I wanted to use "restore missing Apps with Data" then select all the Apps and let TB do its job. But I cant, after the "restore missing Apps..." there is a 0. It seems like it is not recognizing my backups files here...
What could the problem be?
Help would be greatly appreciated here!

upload your backup to drive, then restore your backup from drive to your n6. dont batch restore from your phone, restore from drive. your backup is there, not on your phone.

Dont know what you mean. The backup is on my n6. The backup was on Google Drive, but I synced it to my TB backup folder on my phone that is set as my backup folder in TB. Also i dont see a possibility to directly restore apps from Google Drive.

I have not used titanium backup since marshmallow came out but if I am understanding correctly the 0 you are referring to is in the progress bar during the restore operation. I had an issue like that in lollipop and what fixed it was setting kernel to permissive using the SELinux mode changer app. Last I heard though that app no longer works as intended on marshmallow with the new systemless SuperSU rooting method. There are a few permissive kernels floating around you could use. I think elementalx still has the permissive option on install, Hellscore has a permissive version of its zip.

You need to restore manually.
Apps will be restored on your N6 after a factory reset when you login with your Gmail account.
When the setup of your N6 is finished you can restore data files on the virtual sdcard.

Indeed, I hoped you had the Google backup set on your S3. Now you have to download the apps again one by one from the play store.

honestly, i havent used TB to back up in a long time. i did make a backup that i later zipped up(restored it in twrp recovery) one time last year. but google does a pretty good job at restoring apps, system settings, and wallpaper. for me at least

Already checked that, there is no filter set in TB.
Also in this tab i can see the backups, but I can not restore it. Maybe its a problem that I made the backups with Android 5.1.1 and have now 6.0.1?

Oh, I think i got the problem... I just backuped the apps data and have to reinstall the app from the playstore manually, and after that I can restore the data. Dont know why that is. There was a time where TB installed the app automatically...

it still does, depending on what you select of course. i like the idea of backing up then making a twrp flashable zip. it all gets reinstalled in one shot, a few seconds.

Ok, now I will have a look into twrp backups. But I think there will be no way to automate this, right? Maybe via Tasker or some kind of script?

no idea, but I don't think so considering its done in recovery and not in the os. there's a twrp app you might check out, it might help in automation.

under batch options. first, i make a regular titanium backup, then i go back into batch options and press create update.zip. this zips up your backup into a twrp flashable.

Obviously you'll need root access as the items are in the system folder.
Just use a root browser (I used root explorer) to change the permissions to 777 (full access for all) to all of those entries, remember to enable it for sub-folder and items on the folders too, then you should be able to delete them.
Stop it OnePlus, naughty.

I jist disable it in App detail and it basically no longer "exists". Its what I do to all stock apps. It is nice OnePlus allows disabling of all nonessential apps. Unlike Samsung or LG.

Same here, been using System app remover on my last few devices. It also back's the removed apps to Internal storage...

Still better. Use 'Debloater' module from Magisk repository. (requires BusyBox installed).
Works like a charm.

I use SD Maid Pro to delete apps entirely

Agree that debloater from magisk is good. You can delete in multiples and scan throughout your phone.

Sorry to revive an old post but I am using Debloater with busybox installed. When I uninstall Netflix it finishes as expected but doesn't actually uninstall. It even shows under "restore uninstalled apps".

Try booting to TWRP, mount system, open Advanced tab, use file manager within TWRP, navigate to /system/product/app/, delete the netflix-stub and Netflix-activation packages, then unmount system through TWRP, finally reboot system.

I tried to do this same process for deleting Gmail and it didn't work. Gmail was still there when I booted up. Just an FYI. I can't seem to delete Gmail from system apps. Everyone has theories but no one can seem to delete it. I'm rooted by the way.

You've navigated to this directory within twrp, deleted the Gmail2 folder, and the Gmail app is still in your app tray? If so, maybe you can uninstall as you would a regular user app at that point.

Question Need Recommendation for a Backup/Restore App (No Root)

Hi All,
Any recommendation for a Backup/Restore App that can transfer the whole apps data (including logins etc)?

looking for same as its take hours to restore , there must be an app like iclod restore which works best to backup and restore

Agreed, I've always used this to take snapshots and it's fantastic.
I too am on the hunt for something that can do this without root. I don't think it exists.

Titanium backup hasn't been updated since 2019. Use Swift Backup, it's the best out there

- Titanium backup doesn't work
- Swift Backup doesn't work
- Helium Backup & Sync (which was the ONLY app that could do that easily) doesn't work on Android 10+
As far as I know, there isn't any "app" that can do that anymore.
The ONLY reliable way is through ADB, either via a full backup, or app by app using "adb backup -apk -shared -all -f <filepath>/backup.ab"

IMO, it's the worst solution, although it'll always be better than no backup at all.
It's not cross-device, so if you lose your phone, you can't switch brands, you have to buy another Samsung
The backup files are encrypted, you can't have an emergency restore on any other device
It's still a good choice, but people don't usually know those limitations when making a backup in the first place.
I'd rather have a very good app (with an adb privilege command or something like that) which can be used by anyone, than a proprietary solution (or root. root will never disapoint IMO)

Then how about Google backup? I have never used (Indeed never using non rooted device) but should backup app +data and across all Android

I would sure like to know if it does indeed backup and restore data also. I've also only used rooted devices and I've never seen anyone report anything about Google backup.
As for Samsung smart switch, it doesn't do data, only app, I remember.

Recently someone somewhere reported that smart switch didn't restore data. But that might have changed. I wish it did.
As for Google. Yes, I know that say this. But I've never tried and I highly doubt that they do a good job in that regard. But who knows...

As someone who had to used Google Backup to switch to my S21U, I can assure you that APPDATA can't make 24Mb for more than 200 apps. I believe it might save the tiniest amount of appdata, but haven't seen it restore anything (apps were clean on restore)
Samsung Smart switch DOES backup appdata, you can check for it in the backup folder you selected. I didn't fully check for appdata of system apps vs user apps, tho.

So Google backup cannot restore data. Only apps.
You mentioned that smart switch will backup data. But did you try to restore it? And does it work?

I have tried two apps y'day(N20 to S21 with USB backup option) , both restored but one with data other's only app. Yet can't say what exact rule applies. still it seems best way to restore on non rooted device. Probably It can backup from non samsung devices too (including iOS)but it can restore only on samsung if I am not wrong.

Thank you.
Some of my apps have pages and pages of settings. I'll never use a phone without root for that reason. Backup&restore apps that use root are the only way and are essential...

Yep. Testing different OS' with different configurations then snapshotting with Titanium has been my goto for years. Love that workflow.

Titanium is outdated now (I have used for almost a decade), specifically on A12 and it's been nearly 2 yrs, there is no support for splitted apks
Swift BAckup is on top now.
