[Q] Swapping batteries, does it harm our phone? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So yea, I recently bought 2 new batteries and a charger on ebay. It's made from china I guess. I just want to know if it does harm our phone if I keep swapping batteries? If it does, in what way?

no it wont mess up your phone switching out batteries. hope u got a official samsung one. i gotten a generic brand on one of my old phones and it didnt work

the only problem ive had with using extra batteries is that every once and a while it throws my battery stats off but a recalibration fixes that for another two or three months

Yes. It will throw off the calibration so the reported charge might be wacky. But that's about it and it's easily fixed.
I got the 2 bats +charger combo for $10 from Hong Kong. They don't last nearly as well as the OEM cell but are fine for extra replacements. I even got brave and put the OEM cell on the charger. It worked fine, but I'm still careful to pull it off as soon as charging is complete.

Okay. So just the battery calibration. Guess that's fine with me.

1980mah Andida battery

FYI on a thread I started on this battery over in the g2x group.. So far, it seems promising. I'll keep it updated as I receive responses from those that are using the battery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104665
well they seems quite afraid of this ....
Sounds interesting, will keep a eye on this thread, hopefully some full tests will be done on the battery.

If anyone buyed it, say if it works.
Im very interested.
Enviado desde mi LG-P990 usando Tapatalk
i was using this brand when i have my desire z, the battery itself is really giving some extra time, but it get "fat" fast when compared with original. "fat" means reduce battery saving power. so, if compared with the original one, in long term usage, andida won't give you any good compared with original one.
I've just buyed one. I think that this could extend a lot my battery life. At least with OEM battery I coul ony use my phone for 12 houres
I have bought and received the battery now. Seems fine, but I will need more time to really notice any difference. Aslo, my stock battery kept my phone running for 40 hours on a single charge (phone is running on CM7 based ROM, stock ROM never lasted that long, 20 hours max).
So? Worth buying or not?

That is very cheap for a battery that size (any battery for that matter ) But i will wait for some good news and maybe I'll buy it then.
I have bought this battery. http://www.energizerpowerpacks.com/ch/products/xp2000/
I am always carrying a bag with me so when the phon is not used I plug it in. Does a great job actually. I have a freind in Greece experiencing the worst case scenario with a dodgy battery namely a small explosion which destroyed his HTC and received some minor burns on his pointer finger.

Thinking of buying the andida battery, how is it for you that have already bought it?
Gives a little bit more juice, so a couple of hours extra. Battery does not become hot when charging or during use.

Andida Battery issues?

I bought one of the Andida 1980 mAh batteries back in October and it doesn't charge at all. Leaving it plugged in for over two hours does nothing. Its obviously too late to do anything as far as a return is concerned. I have a feeling that it was dead on delivery but for $8.99 I can't complain too much. Would an external charger fix this?
Just sounds like a dead battery pack. It happens.

Mine died about 2 weeks ago. Darn thing made me think I bricked my Thrill. I believe it has lasted about 3 months. I also expected longer life but for the cheep price I'm going to get another.
Given the nature of Li-ion. When they go bad its without warning and its flatline. I believe mine went bad cause a I had a few drops and rapid temperature changes. Batteries don't like that sort of thing.

Flickering Problem Below 50% (ICS,JB)

I have contatced some Developers too but just wanted more opinions..
Here`s the problem.
Once my phone hits 50% and if i try using it after that,The screen starts to flicker..
Strange waves start appearing on the screen {Top to Bottom}
If i continue using... the waves increases and after few seconds the phone Switches Off
After around 10Minutes If i try to switch it back on...It switches on with 1% Battery...
If i put to charge it satrts from 1% if i restart once while charging it starts from 50%
So what is happening here and what is wrong with my phone..
I went back to Rooted KL3 Ginger Bread (I did not have this problem in Ginger Bread)
I flashed a safe ICS (Alliance)
It started again...
Flashed Alliance JB and it still remains,I have tried Rocket,Chrack,Crash and all Roms out there..
I did some research and got to know that sammy`s ics update had this problem,
I am open for all kinds of suggestions here :fingers-crossed::crying::angel:

i bought two of those:

since i replaced the the battery everything works fine.

Thanks guys and YES, I checked the battery and the shape seems to be odd...
I guess it's time to change the battery...
Thanks a lot for the responses guys..

this is an ongoing issue. seems like the battery is dead after a year with signs of bloating. this never happened to my HD2 or Xperia X10. whats going on?
Its not uncommon for batteries to drastically lose their effectiveness after a year or so -- which is why I hate phones that don't have user-replaceble batteries.

As requested by OP. Have this problem? Looks like you need a new battery.

Battery is dead.

After having the Ace for more than a year, I can officially say that the battery died.
I charge it for a night, and its on 20% after 8 hours of almost no use.
Is there anything I can do, except replacing it?

Why would you even bother trying to fix it?
You can buy a replacement battery on ebay for $3.88 including delivery.
You can even get an external charger to charge the spare battery outside of the phone for $2

Yes, it was my attempt at humor but apparently it was lost on you
It seems his battery is no longer able to hold a charge... this generally happens towards the end of the battery life-cycle.
There are ways you can try and rejuvenate it but the small cost of a new one on ebay makes this exercise pointless.

Nothing serious really...! XDA itself is a funny place ! So humour always keeps up ! Actually if your android system isn't clean enough, it results in battery loss. At least his lasts 8 hrs., mine went from 100 to 0 in less than 2 hrs. And believe me, its already months past now & I still use the same battery which lasts over a day !

"Do" take a chance, Anker make superb batteries that work either equal to or better than the originals in terms of life span and quality. I've tried batteries from other manufacturers in the past and had my first Anker, all the way back when I had my HTC Desire, ever since then it's the only 3rd party battery producer I trust.
I've tried others, but they just don't compare in my opinion.

Though it's a great price I can't justify to buy it because the current battery last me 1.5-2days. What do I do with the spare battery? What do you guys do? Buy it as spare and use it once a blue moon? Or switch every so often to spread stress of battery?
Removal of case is also tedious..

I agree. I see no point in a 2nd battery for the Note 2 unless you live in a place where there is constant power outages that may last a day. But if you are in North America I see no reason.
It's $10 for americans, so half price. I ordered one, never know when you forget to charge it one might or are super low and need to go out somewhere.

Confirmed!
I'm no battery expert, but I doubt leaving a battery fully charged for a day, Is going to destroy it, that's like saying you have to remove your phone off charge once it's compete (which is recommended by all manufacturers).
If the battery gets fully charged at 3AM in the morning, I challenge you to show me a Muppet, that wakes up from sleep, just to take their phone off charge, in fear of damaging the battery due to over charging haha.
If someone does do that however.... then they seriously need to get laid and chill the hell out

I'd rather have the battery and not need it than need it and not have it. For £6 it's hardly gonna break the bank. Agreed the Note 2 has a sh*t-hot battery, but it's still new to me and i have it in use ALL the time so i'm powering through the juice at a fair rate of knots. Anyway, you can never have enough power.

True that it is cheap, only time I considered a 2nd battery is when I was nearing the end if my contract of old phone and battery was bit tired. Though buying a battery now and let it sit there for 2 years isn't really cost effective imo. I've never had batteries fail on me, I'd like to know when is a situation where I would need power but not had enough (especially with this phone).
If you hike, or its for an 'emergency' why not just buy one of those 50,000mah chargers? yes they cost more than £6 but then you can charge many devices, many times, and actually let it sit there for ages as there is a lot of mah for natural discharge.
Not trying to troll but genuinely would like to find a valid reason.

I do have an external/portable battery charger too, but it's just not ideal when you're half way up a mountain, having a cables attached to the device you just want to whip out, check your bearing, then stick it back in your pocket again, it's just too cumbersome.
Having the extra batteries (for my personal situation) means, I can use my Note with MM Tracker or Memory Map, to guide me around the wilderness and not have to worry about conserving life.
I sometimes like to track the routes I take as well, that feature alone drains your juice like it's going out of fashion, If you want a fairly accurate track at least, as it has to poll it's position quite frequently.
I'll probably use two batteries at a time on a day-to-day basis and keep one, part charged. At the end of a day, I'll remove battery 1, put it on charge and use battery 2 the following day, then do the same the following week but replace battery 2 for battery 3. At 6 quid each, I'm not bothered that there will be a battery sat fully charged for a day whilst not in use, as it's not being left in storage fully charged long enough for it to be affected in my opinion, not short term at least anyway.
It seems impossible To find an anker or hyperion extended battery on amazon/ebay uk
. Does someone manage to buy one of them from uk?
