Greetings.
As of November 3rd, Samsung Mexico released to the market the Samsung Galaxy S.
Telcel (Mexican Carrier) will be handling the phone.
According to the Datasheet from Samsung Mexico webpage
''Sorry for the link, but the anti spam does not let me post it"
They call it a Samsung GT-i9000.
The only difference I can see from the International Version is the 3G band.
Instead of 900/1900/2100 mhz it has 850/1900/2100 mhz.
It has the same build and Front Camera as the International Version.
Can it be considered a custom GT-i9000 or Did they manage to change the band with a specific ROM?
Anyway, Any thoughts?
Thank you
Well, I'm from Mexico, this should be good news for people in here, I bought 2 months ago the Galaxy S international version from handtec.co.uk
I can't use 3G but that's no problem for me since I don't use it nor plan to use.
My guess is that it needs a different kind of antenna for changing the 3G signal.
I still cannot find it on telcel webpage, and samsung mexico doesn't list any place to buy yet. Maybe telcel is customizing the ROM before selling it, I just hope they don't make a crappy saturated ROM. Hopefully they'll use froyo
Does it look like the Bell Vibrant?
Indeed, it looks exactly like the Bell Vibrant.
Only difference is that it only has 8gb of internal memory.
Doing some research, I guess the correct model will be Samsung Galaxy S/GT-I9000T.
thank you.
Interesting, since it has only 8gb, I wonder if it dodges the internal SD issues apparent in the 16gb version.

i'm pretty sure it's safe to assume so
as the problem has always only with the 16GB models, even for international ones
that is exactly the same as the galaxy they sell here in puerto rico by claropr wich by the way is owned by the same people as telcel(america movil) its a i9000t.
JUST GOT I9000T FROM TELCEL. NO GMAIL or GTALK or GOOGLE SEARCH WIDGET
I just got the Samsung Galaxy S from TELCEL in Mexico, but it seems as if they completly removed GMAIL, GTALK and searching widget by Google and placed instead a YAHOO widget.
I bought this celphone because I have all my acounts (Personal and Company) hosted with google and wanted to use them with google apps.
I was able to root it but have not been able to install diferent roms, and when I installed diferent apk for gmail, gtalk etc, it closes the apps because of errors.
Does anyone know what I could do to get these apps working or wich ROM should I use?
The celphone info is this:
PDA: I9000TUMJG1 [R5]
PHONE: I9000TUMJG1
CSC: I9000TTCEJG1
Hi
I bought the phone yesterday in Mexico city
I haven't rooted my phone, I downloaded a rom for an european version of the phone (CODE_I9000XXJE6_REV03). I unpacked the file and I mounted the file factory.rfs in linux. I took the files: GMailProvider.apk and GMail.apk.
I had the trouble that you said, i think it was because I hadn't installed GMailProvider.apk. Now GMail is working without issues on my unrooted galaxy phone. I had also tried with files from other roms and that didn't work, so I think you need the files of a samsung rom with android 2.1.
I think Google Search is included in the rom. Installing LauncherPro was the first thing that i did after I turned on the phone. I could add the google search widget in LauncherPro. I cannot use the widgets of Samsung with launcher pro but for me it doesn't matter.
Regards

Can I ask where you downloaded the rom from? Or if possible, can you attach the gmailprovider and gmail apk's here? I also got the Mexican i9000T and it pisses me off that these idiots took out the gmail app.
Thanks
How much was the phone without a contract?
I got it on contract, 2-year, and payed about $300. Without contract it is about $730.
Ok so I took the Gmailprovider and gmail apk's from a firmware I downloaded from samfirmwares.com.
But when I launch the gmail app it just goes into a blank screen (or dark one) and it does nothing. And since I launched it, the sync icon in the status bar (top) appeared and hasn't gone away. Did I FUBAR something???
Hi
I found the roms here:
samsungflash.webs.com/apps/wiki/i9000

Hi
Sometimes you get an error if you use an account of gmail and another one of Google Apps, but otherwise the GMail App works very well
Regards
The first time that I started the application I saw the blank screen that you said, but I turned off the cellphone and then turned on and It worked
Regards
Well, after a reboot, i no longer got the blank screen. But then I started getting force closed of some process named com.somethingsomething.gapps. I instaled using an app installer which placed the gmail and provider apps on the external sdcard. Maybe they should be on the internal sd? What do you think?

I had the same trouble using two gmail accounts on the phone, one of them was a Google Apps account, currently I'm only using one account (the regular gmail account) and all works well.
Anyway I think, you should try install the apps on the internal memory of the phone.
Regards
a gazillion years later, I installed gmail onto /sys/apps folder and after a reboot, it works like a charm. But now I sort of got used to K-9 Mail hehehe
I just got the same phone about 2 weeks ago.
I liked it but it is a shame that Telcel installs all that crap on it.
I'm not that familiar with Linux. Is there any way the files can be unpacked from within Windows?
I would love to use Gmail and Gtalk on my phone.
I9003 rooted with Superclick. AndRootFile works okay. Tried the same procedure as I9000 but I still cant get market to install. I was able to remove all the middle east stuff they load it up with here in DXB. Anybody figured this one out? Nice phone but IMO any Android phone is useless without market.
isn't market installed by default?
Here in India on my phone I think it was pre installed when I got it new.
I also bought GT-I9003 in Dubai. I also have a trouble about market. My GT-I9003 are not yet rooted. I have another Galaxy Tab. Extract market.apk by ES File Explorer and moving apk file into GT-I9003 and install it. Any application is installable by this method.
I can open market, browse and serach. but not display application information and my apps. When I tried to display individual application, get a error everytime
"Sorry! process com.android.vending has stopped unexpectedly"
This GT-I9003 is also consuming a batter a lot... For me, waiting for a custom ROM...

any new battery need its running down cycles, after few days it starts giving you more backup.
Charge the battery to 100% then drain it FULLY to 0% until the phone gets off itself then recharge it again to 100%.
As of now no custom roms for GT-I9003
Suwadee Krup Siam. I moved it to apps with ES File Explorer but it still will not load. Can you give me the exact procedure you used to load it from external SD? I moved some other apps with ES and they worked. It almost seems as if the firmware has blocked it. I bought I9000, SE X-10 mini and mini pro in DXB and none of them had Market either but I was able to install. Really this phone is useless without the apps on Market. Slide ME is junk and Sam-dung app is even worse.
to get market, go in root explorer and look in apps for vender.apk then just install it. if you get fc go to settings>manage apps>market> clear data or cache , one of those 2. dont really remember :S

Which Android version you have on your phone ?
I read it on gsmarena that Dubai version is coming with Ginger bread. True ?

Mystery solved. This procedure is for I9003 phones sold in middle east without market app visible (it is there)
Back up phone. I lost contacts but not pictures in gallery. Some apps will also disappear.
Locate IMEA number under battery. Should be about 15 digits. When entering IMEA code, disregard / marks.
From phone keypad dial *#272*IMEA code then #
Phone will enter full page menu.
Select XSG
tap INSTALL.
Phone will reset and all middle eastern and religious apps will not be present. Market will be shown in apps and work with no problems.
As for Gingerbread, mine has Froyo.JPKB1
Also this is my 4th android from DXB. I9000, SE X10 mini, SE X10 pro. What I see is the customer sofware determines whether or not it will have market. Two had it and two didn't depending on which store I bought it from.

it worked
Thank you man
Works! Thank you so much!
Just received WiFI Tab and there a lot of apps missing from Android Market - Launcher Pro, ADW, Zeam, Swiftkey, Google Voice etc etc - all of which are on the Market Web Store of course.
Interestingly the Web Store will not install to the Samsung WiFi - it sees the device in the Install dialog but the device is grayed out.
Spoke to Samsung about this who BSd about this (missing apps) being a 'known Android Market issue' - so I told them that we have these missing apps on our Samsung Captivate, Archos Gen 8 Tabs etc etc.
wow. thanks for that was just checking on that now myself and wondering. would have wrote this from the tab but it keeps on crashing with xda app on tab

same problem that i have which i posted here.
i've emailed Samsung about and here's their reply:
Thank you for contacting Samsung Philippines.
We do apologize for the inconvenience. This is an Android Market issue. Please try doing a system restore or
factory data reset to register your google account again. This might solve the problem. We are expecting for
patch or update from Google as well to resolve this issue. We are so sorry for the inconvenience.

i hope someone can do a fix for this. changing the locale via MoreLocale (or Market Enabler) doesn't solve the issue
actually the Android market works based on the operator number to show you the avalaible apps for that operator in that country
in the case of wifi-only android devices, only apps that have no country or operator restriction would appear on the market.
I had a chinese tablet before my Galaxy tab and that was a common issue.
What will hapen if you try to use Market Enabler? I know, you don't have gsm module, but who knows that will happen...

i've tried Market Enabler and it doesn't work.
Can you just go to the Market via a PC, and download the app to the local PC, then move it over to the Tab, and launch it.?

You can't download apps to PC from Android Market
The web-based Market is only a bridge that sends an OTA command to your device

the other option is to download the app on a different android phone and transfer it via BT which kinda sucks though but it's better than nothing.

And when i try to download something that is originaly not available in my country from my mobile it says,
U cant download this application because it is not available in your country
What shall i do
Hi, I don't know aan solution for the market unlocker but the apps you want to download are probably downloadable from the Internet, search Google (app name + 'apk' should work) download and install

Ive installed Slim ICS on my wifes galaxy s.
She misses the mini diary app that was present on the stock rom. I have done many searches and found posts on this forum and others.
I have obtained a few MiniDiary.apk files form the internet and copied them to system/app using root explorer, and changed the permissions etc, but I have not managed to get this app to work.
Is there any way to achieve this? Have I been using the wrong apk files?
The stock rom she had was XXJVO. She would also be happy with the MiniDiary app from my S2 if it would be possible to get that to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did I post in the wrong section?
Thanks.
It's impossible. I really liked that app too, but there's no way to get it working on a non-touchwiz rom. Even flashing one of those touchwiz framework packages didn't work. So you have two choice. Either go back to a Touchwiz rom (so non-AOSP), or find another app replacement (IMHO there's no good replacement on the market).
I like the app also. When I rooted my phone its gone. But what I am suggesting is you can get a Diary App vias Play Store. I bet they have alot there..

Trust me. I have Looked, and none of them is as nice
Knowledge is Power. Guard it well.
Thanks for your clear and concise answers. I had also tried one of those touchwiz frameworks too.
I too have trawled the play store for something similar but like you found nothing as good as the mini diary app. I'm sure I can find something that will make do.
wrong time
Hi I downloaded mini diary from the Samsung store and for today it shows a time - the 2 other entries don't. The issue is only that on the entry that does show the time it is 2 hours behind. The phone shows the correct time though.
I'm using Samsung galaxy s3 on latest official .nz firmware, I'm saying new Zealand because Im in .nz and live in .nz etc.
How can I fix this, the only setting I could see was location and weather .
have u tried this way:
