I have a GT-I9000M.
Firmware: 2.2
Baseband Version: I9000UGJL2
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: FROYO.UGJL2
Phones Touch key FW: 0x02
Parts Touch key FW: 0x0
The Back Button and Menu button when pressed just light up and do not do anything else. They stay on for hours.
I have read that a "Touch key FW Update" using the *#2663# option should work.
After clicking the "Touch key FW update", a pop up appears with the "Now Updating", the circle spins, but the update never completes and the message stays on the screen.
Any ideas on how to get the update to work.
connect to wifi and then try mine is working ok tsp fw update took 1 mint and touch key fw update took 10 sec
I have tried WIFI, the update never completes.
Any suggestions?
Flash old eclair with odin, update touch form and you'll get back your touch buttons, after flash the rom wath you want. At least work that for me

Hi guys,
i flashed my sgs with super optimised kernel 3.7 from 3.6 .... = bad news ... i realised that my home button does not work anymore so i have to use the back button instead of home button it took me many hours to figure and fix my sgs but still no home button working but at least my sgs did not turn into a paperweight.
below are the series of events that happened (i tried to put it in order as much as possible)
- home button stopped working
- alot of FC'ing
- sgs kinda like jammed or stuck
- did a full reflash from step 1 [HOWTO] Froyo FW I9000XXJPM: Upgrade via Odin, Root, Recovery 2e, Lagfix! several times !
- flashed a couple of times but when phone enters recovery mode after 1st flash i cant select wipe data/cache cos home button not working so phone was turned off and entered download mode then flashed JPM.
- also tried to flash in 3.6 version kernel couple of times to overwrite 3.7
- here are some stuff i saw along the way :
--there were occasions i see a mobile logo with arrow pointing to pc (just like the background pic of recovery menu but no menu till i unplug usb)
--after reflash when it enters recovery mode automatically it will then not show menu and android logo with a caution sign was seen but when usb cable is unplugged recovery menu comes back but still no luck to wipe data/cache cos home button not working
--instead of seeing recovery 2e , 3e was shown but then again i cant select wipe data/cache due to home button not working
i'm sure many reading this is figuring how i managed to enter recovery or download mode without the home button ???
-- just hold vol up/down + power button home button is not needed in my case !
while in recovery menu, i cant select or do anything with home button except moving vol up/down button to highlight selection but cannot "enter" with home button so i turned the phone off and continued flashing JPM and it works.
but while inside the 3.6 or 3.7 kernel, i can move up or down using vol switch and how did i manage to "enter" selection without home button ? i discovered that the power button does the "enter" !
home button was working intermittently but it comes with double click where you bring the last 6 used apps and task manger selection .. but now it does not come up anymore. still can feel the click on the home button but no response as for now.
also flashed several times as mentioned with re-partition ticked to try to wipe everything but still same results.
so now i have ended up with :
PDA : I9000XXJPM
Phone : I9000XXJPM
CSC : I9000 OXAJPM
Build info : 2010.10
Baseband : I9000XXJPM
Kernel Version : 2.6.32.9
[email protected] #19
Build Number : FROYO.XXJPM
i have also tried many ways such as formatting sd, system, basically almost every menu in the kernel ! basically i wiped out previous data (my guess) but all the apps + data are gone. it was a PITA process.
now it is just the freaking home button does not work anymore ! but nevertheless quadrant still shows 2216 ! and the phone is still blazing fast .
hope someone could help out i have tried to do the search function but not much luck related to my issue.
i have the same problem .... my home button is dead as well -.-'
Flash back to an Eclair firmware. See if that changes anything.

Ok so here my problem hope someone can help. Samsung S.A has recently Sent out An update to 2.2.1 XWJS5 which was long awaited, anyways before my Kies update I had 3 button mode working via the odin method on 2.1 XWJM3 , now after the update to XWJS5 I cannot get the recovery mode to work when using the volume up , home key and power key combination. Download mode still works however when pressing volume down + Home Key + Power. I have re-flashed SBL with odin and still only download mode works any help ?
When the first screen pops up let go of the power button. Somehow it changed for me as well on 2.2.1. Download works as normal.

[Q] Help: updated TSP & touch firmware in 2663 menu and lost menu and back buttons
Please help, I was about to attempt flashing and rooting for the first time, and read that I should update the TSP and TW firmware in the 2663 dialer menu first, so I did it. My Back and Menu buttons were working fine before, and now they are not working at all. I did a factory reset, but that did not fix it. Any other suggestions? Please help! I am running I9000M with stock 2.3.3.
Hey,
I have a problem with my Galaxy S I9000. The soft-touch buttons aren't working anymore.
The first time this happend I was on MIUI firmware (2.3.7 I believe). Every now and then the soft-touch buttons wouldn't react anymore. Pressing them made the light of the buttons go on but other than that, they weren't working. Then one day the light wouldn't even go on anymore and the "Key Test" in recovery mode also didn't recognise them.
After that I flashed Stock 2.3.4 and everything was working again for about a week. After that I had the same error all over again but this time I could use *#*#2663#*#* (It didn't work on MIUI) and update the "Soft Touch Firmware" (?). Sometimes it helped, sometimes it didn't help.
Right now I'm on 4.0.3 (MR1-RC4.2) with kernel "Semaphore ICS 1.2.6" and after 10 minutes of working soft-touch buttons... you know the drill.
I don't think this is a hardware problem but I have no idea how to fix it if it is a software problem.
I hope someone can help me with this. :S
Update:
So I flashed back to stock 2.3.5 and it didn't work. After typing *#*#2663#*#* it said:
Phone's Touch key FW version: 0xa9
Part's Touch key FW version: 0x0
I had to press "Touch key FW Update" a few times and the soft-touch keys are working again and it says:
Phone's Touch key FW version: 0xa9
Part's Touch key FW version: 0xa9
The thing is, the "Part's Touch key FW version" is showing a differnt version every now and then. For example:
Phone's Touch key FW version: 0xa9
Part's Touch key FW version: 0xff
I have seriously no idea how to permanently fix this issue.

Try flashing your initial base ROM via Odin and IMOORTANTLY have repartition ticked.
Edit: if that doesn't work then its a hardware issue.

What do you mean "initial base rom"? The one I bought the phone with? Or the last official Samsung ROM?
While flashing to 2.3.5 Stock I checked "repartition" (with a 512 Pit File - s1_odin_20100512.pit) and as I said: Sometimes this solves the issue, sometimes I have to update the Touch-Firmware a few times to make it work again.
Another problem is that *#*#2663#*#* doesn't work on Custom ROMS so I have to flash back to Stock, fix it, and then flash back to Custom only to have the same issue later again.
Could this really be a hardware-problem? It sounds strange, because it's fixed through software. (Well, temporarily fixed...)
I am experiencing similar issues. Buttons are litten up on touch, but don't work. Locking/unlocking the phone or restarting the launcher fix them sometimes, but not always.
Darrok, had you managed to fix the problem?
Hi,
I need to upgrade my Galaxy S.
Currently, I have this:
- Model number: GT-I9000
- Microsoftware version: 2.1-update1
- Bandwidth version: I9000BVJF3
- Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
- Version number: ECLAIR.BVJG2
Can you let me know how I can upgrade this ? How do I have to start ?
I have installed Samsung Kies and sync the phone with it. I expected to be able to do a firmware update thanks to Samsung Kies. But Samsung Kies doesn't seems to offer any firmware update !?
Can you give me links for dummies on how to flash my devices?
I dont know if it works fine when you are still on Eclair.
I've updated first my sgs to 2.3.6 with kies. You must open Kies in admin mod then it should works fine. If it doesnt you can backup with Kies, or rather kies restores it. Or you flash a firmware with odin. Unfortunately I dont know a guidance in english, but here in the forum there are certainly many of them.
If you are powerfull in german language, you can use this one: Here
It is for CM9, but it is the same approach for another custom rom.
If you want to stay stock (that's official firmware), then download samsung kies and just connect your phone to your pc using a USB cable. A message will pop up saying there is a new updade (Gingerbread 2.3.6). Back your phone up, then click install. Easy!
If you want to go for a custom rom, I suggest you download CyanogenMod 10 stable from CyanogenMod.org (once downloaded, don't try to unzip or extract the file, leave it zipped!) The ROM is based on android 4.1.2 Jellybean. It's a great ROM and also very stable. You will need to root your phone first though before installing it. But before you do anything, you will need to do a factory reset, and wipe your phones cache/partition first. Just turn your phone off and press and hold the power button + home key + volume up button (all 3 together). A menu will will pop up with the options to 'wipe cache/wipe partition' and perform a 'factory reset'. Use the volume up/down buttons to navigate, and the home button to select each one.
Once you have done a factory reset and wiped your phones cache/partition, you will need to find a root file for the specific firmware that is on your phone at the moment (look in Chainfires CF-root thread here on xda). After downloading the root file unzip/extract it. Next, download odin. Almost any version of odin should do, but try finding (again on xda) odin version 1.85 or 1.87. Once you have downloaded the root file and odin, open odin, then put your phone into download mode (press and hold the power button + the home key button + volume down button. A yellow android should appear. Then, connect your phone to your computer via the USB cable.
In the bottom left corner of odin, you should see the word ADDED! in a small box (providing you have the right drivers installed). This just means your phone is now connected to odin and ready to flash. To the right you will see a button called PDA, click on it and it should take you to your root file (provided you extracted/unzipped it). Double click on it, and it will automatically go in the PDA box in odin.
Above the PDA button, there is a 'start' button. Click that, and odin will do it's magic. After your phone has rebooted it should be rooted and ready to go. Next, close odin and take the USB lead out, then plug it back in. An autoplay box should open. Click on the option 'open folder to view files'. In the left pane, click on 'removable disk (G), and look for your external SD card folder. Click on it to open, and drag the zipped CyanogenMod 10 stable folder there, then turn off your phone. Wait until it is completely off and vibrates, then press and hold the power button + home button + volume UP button together. Your phone should boot into recovery mode.
Look for the option 'install zip from sdcard'. Again, use the volume up/down button to navigate, and the home key to select. After you have selected 'install zip from sdcard', there will be another option that says 'choose zip from sdcard'. Click that, and you should see a long list of folders. Toggle down to the 'external_sd' folder, and open it. The zipped CyanogenMod 10 stable folder should be there. Use the volume or up down button to select it, then hit the home key button. It will then install the ROM. When it's finished, just select 'reboot phone', and you are done!
