Did you ever figure this out? I'm trying to do this. If I unlock it can I use the SIM from my Vibrant?
Even if you could, you won't get data on it. I tried the smartphone data plan on my dell streak 7 and it logged on to the internet but the only page i could get was an error page telling me i had the wrong data plan.
I would love to get the smartphone data plan on it. It includes roaming. It sucks having a dell streak to use the internet just to end up tethering with my hd2 because it's a worthless brick when i travel.
Yeah I had to convert my plan

DITTO. using same sim card as my sidekick, but it had to be converted to the web connect plan. Don't see what the complaining is, for me it's actually cheaper.

Because my HTC HD2 requires the "Smartphone Data Plan" and the Nexus One requires the "Android Data Plan" I need to switch.
I am trading the HTC HD2 for a Nexus and was wondering about the following:
1. Will there be any charges for doing this?
2. Will there be a fee for switching data plans
3. How should I go about switching from the HD2 to the Nexus One?
4. Will T-Mobile allow me to do this? I bought the HD2 with the instant discount for upgrading to a smartphone.
I am currently on a even more family plan
EDIT: Solved! Thread can be closed.
I'm not really understanding your first statement.
There are pretty much 2 ways to go about this. First, if you get a refund on the HD2, there will be a 15% restocking fee.
1) Buy the N1 for full price from Google.
2) Buy on Craigslist (got mine for under $400 lightly used and I see a few going for around $300 in my area currently)
As I understand it, you can't remove data when you're under contract but you can change it. They're both $30 I think..

Don't worry..T-mobile doesn't care as long as u don't cancel ur contract. Just give then a call and they'll switch u over right away.

Is the only reason you are switching is because of the data plan? Aren't the two the same price?
Either way, sign up for the $10 web2go and change your APN to internet2.voicestream.com Then you get $10 internet on the HD2.
Hey bro, kinda out of topic here, but I keep hearing this web2go and internet2.voicestream.com, isnt this limited? can you surf the net like you can with the 24$ unlimited data plan that T-Mo have?
Is it true that you are limited to 2g when you have tzone or web2go? I hear different stories from different people, so I wonder if you know the facts about this?
Thanks in advance.

I have full access and my phone says 3G/H so unless I'm on the 3G band but throttled to edge speeds (doubtful), I'm pretty confident I'm on full unrestricted 3G.
The trick is getting web2go on your account. Log into mytmobile and change your phone to a Samsung Gravity, add web2go, and you're done.
You cant own both devices with the same data plan?

TMo does IMEI checks to see what device you are using. They're pretty strict about Android devices although i've heard if you use a N1 you bought contract free, you can use the APN trick.

Can you point me in the right direction on where to look for this trick?
I don't have an Android in front of me so I can't walk you through that but once you find the internet settings, change the APN to:
internet2.voicestream.com
and you are set to go. Make sure you have Web2Go on your account (see my post above).
I already have android unlimited I want to use the hd2 as a second device. is that possible?

Hi there,
I'm on AT&T with my parents family plan still, and my mom is eligible for an upgrade. We're both on iPhones at the moment, and I'm not due for an upgrade till 2012, but she is. So I was wondering, I have the unlimited data option on my iPhone, and she said she'd get the Captivate and give to me if I gave her the
3GS.
So my question is, can we just switch SIM cards? Or will there be some sort of hardware/data restriction?
Thanks in advance!
nope you can switch cards wihtout problem, i sold my 3Gs for a captivate and we switched sims without problem
They will automaticly change ur data plan if you dont

Mac, did you have an unlimited plan and they switched you to yet another unlimited?
That's all I'm really worried about. Since it was clarified above that it would work.
No they switched me to the 2gb since i went from an iphone to a samsung. Iphone uses a different format of data

They should not have done that. I had an unlimited bb data plan and they just switched it over.

Same here. To the OP make sure you speak to at&t representatives about what you are trying to for so you don't get sucked into a worthless limited plan. I made sure everything was done online and though the phone.
Sent from bad ass Captivate running Axura RC1!
If you get your Captivate from a 3rd party like Radio Shack or Best Buy, they sure will screw up your data package. if you go thru the ATT corporate stores, tho, you can stay on the grandfathered unlimited data plan...and yes you can switch from UNLIMITED IPHONE to UNLIMITED SMARTPHONE.
When i switched from my 3GS to the Captivate, I went to both a Best Buy and a Shack, and they both told me they had to switch me to the new data plans...I went to the Death Star and got it done with no problem.
A month or two later, I even switched my data plan back to the UNLIMITED IPHONE so that when I work on phones in my store, I have a sim that lets me access the network if wifi doesnt work.
My sim goes between my Captivate and my Dell Streak and I have no problems with data...
-----VERY IMPORTANT----
I don't have voice mail on any of my phones because the iPhone data plan is provisioned for Visual Voicemail, and since I'm not using an iPhone, my voicemail box isn't set up. There is probably a work-around, but it's not a big deal for me, so as long as my plan is for the iPhone, and my sim is in something else, you can't leave me a message.

You should call back to get your unlimited plan back because you can keep it. Also, try to get a confirmation number just in case.
Hey i remember asking this question a while back about my galaxy Tab but i guess i'm hoping theres been some developments since then. I'm trying to use the Sim card from my smartphone with my streak 7 but it seems tmobile has put some kind of weird block on using phone sim cards with the Tabs, probably to force you to have to buy a separate plan for the Tablets all together. I'm wondering if a workaround has been developed for this and if theres is a way to use my smartphone Sim in a tmobile tablet. thanks for the help
dont know if this helps.
I tried the tmobile sim from my touchpro2 with $10 web2go in tmobile's dell streak 7. I got the 4G connection.

thatd be cool but ive got the $30 smartphone plan so im trying to figure out a way to trick the phone into thinking its not a tmobile sim or get rid of that connection to tmobile all together.
Have you tried changing your APN to internet2.voicestream.com?

Have you asked T-Mobile to 'fix your connection'? I've done the same with my carrier and switch between my phone and tablet to use the data all the time, but then again my streak 7 is carrier unlocked and so is my phone.

i think this is specific to tmobile tablets in the states, and im not sure there is an unlocked tablet that is tmobile 4g compatible, which is what im after, i wanted to get the lg G tablet but it looks like you have to either use a sim for a phone or tablet, not interchangeable
Well I tried my $30/mo voice/data prepaid sim in my new streak and the web browser only brings be back to a my-tmobile page. (SMS does work)
Any way I can get this working?
Call TMobile and get your plan sorted out

Anyone have a suggestion that is actually helpful and not quite so gratuitous? Would be greatly appreciated! Not sure if this can be possible, but would like to be able to switch my sim from the HD2 to the Streak and back again as needed.
The fellow at the TMobile store said it needs to be a SIM card turned on as "Broadband", which appears to be true since the same thing happened to me when I put my postpaid SIM in from my cell phone. Ended up getting a $25/month prepaid broadband plan at the store until I find another way. I was able to get an unlock code from Dell, I'll try my wife's Straight-Talk (AT&T) unlimited SIM when I get a chance.
For me it was as easy as inserting my Simple Mobile $60 prepaid sim card from my phone into my dell streak while it was on (i did not shut off and reboot i just inserted while it was on and it said new sim found rebooting please wait). As soon as it rebooted 3G/4G work perfect FYI Simple Mobile uses T-mobiles Network I pay $60 for unlimited talk/txt and 2gb of data..no contract no BS,luv it..

Right, that's the most exasperating thing- I can use my StraightTalk unlimited SIM just fine. (AT&T network on that SIM) But it won't allow a TMobile SIM unless it's a "broadband" SIM. TMobile jumping through hoops to enforce silly rules...

FYI - Walmart's Family Talk SIM works fine in this, but the $30 sim does not. Of course, the family talk is priced higher and has lousy data. I believe they block tablets from the $30 plan, most likely via the IMEI.
I also assume the AT&T sim you're using isn't getting you 3G or 4G since it's a different radio.
I have been trying to get a prepaid AT&T sim working on my Dell Streak 7.
It will only give me the "Aircard" price, $50 for 3G.
I want to test it with the $14.99 250mb plan.
Has anyone got the Streak to work on the non "aircard" plan?
AT&T said Dell had AT&T pull all the IMEI codes for the Streak when Dell stopped making them.
I got it from WalMart and have had a T-Mobile card working in it before, but T-Mobile does not cover a place I go sometimes.
