Hey guys,
So, I'm running Darky's Mod v8.2 with Voodoo Lagfix. I have a Captivate (from Rogers in Canada).
Earlier this evening, I decided I'd like to upgrade to Darky's Mod v9.3, so I downloaded the firmware file.
From there, I opened up Clockwork Mod, and set it to back up my current firmware, and then install the new one. This, of course, requires a reboot into Clockwork Mod Recovery. So, my phone reboots, but it's stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy S I-9000" screen.
I left it to sit for a while, but naturally, it was to no avail. Next, I tried removing the battery, and turning on the phone (multiple) times. Same thing happens - stuck on boot screen. Next, I tried booting into recovery mode (multiple times) using VolumeUP+Home+Power. No deuce. Phone reboots itself until a take my fingers off the buttons. And finally, trying to boot into download mode isn't working (it just stays frozen).
Needless to say, I'm very freaked out. I really hope $550 isn't down the drain.
Any help is graciously appreciated.
Thanks.

Only if you cannot get into download mode with the recovery jig .

Okay. Thank you. I think I'll buy one off Ebay. As great as those instructions are, I don't trust myself to do it. xD

Today I wantes to install the new Darky's Rom v9.0.2.
I downloaded everything, rootet my device (2.2 JPO) with Odin, installed Clockwork mode and started the update.zip.
At first i didn't wipe my sgs, just installed the zip. after some dialoge (This is Darky's Rom, installing this... done, etc) it rebooted and everything was as before, except for the forced closes. So I did a wipe and installed the zip again. This time there was some text too, but it rebooted too fast for me to read it. Then it stuck at the "Galaxy S, GT-I9000" logo, where it should enter the clockwork mode. I pressed vol up + home + power to give it another try, but now my phone won't go past the Samsung logo I already tried to remove the battery, or use the combination for the recovery and download mode but none of it helped.
If I plug in the battery charger, the battery logo shows, but it freezes while loading the battery status.
Is there a way to fix it? I just want the recovery mode to work again
Ask Darky its his rom does that not make more sense .
Or wipe the lot .

I cant wipe it when I cant get into the recovery mode..
so you cant get into recovery mode... What about Download mode ??
Download didn't work either..
Edit:
lol.. I removed the battery for about 10 minutes and tried it again. Recovery mode still wont work, and the phone doesnt shut down too, BUT the download mode works
so back to odin
thats your best bet these phones are pretty unbrickable lol. just a ball ache having to restore everything when summit goes wrong.
Yeah, it's really a pain in the ass -.-
I'm really relieved now though. I really thought I bricked it
I hope everything'll be fixed by midnight

Flash to v8.0 first, then flash to v9.0.2. That seems to be more stable.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP
Ok so my phone is rooted, i installed anim mod and when i was installing one of the mods from the app i had to reboot. i rebooted but the phone loaded up as far as the Galaxy S logo and then went black and the lights of the buttons stayed on.
Ok so i could get into the recovery mode, but i tried all the options there tried clearing everything and it said it did but everytime i rebooted same thing kept happening.
So finally after freaking out i got on youtube and found a video called "How To Restore The Samsung Captivate To Factory Firmware With Odin3 One Click Downloader". not realising captivate isnt exactly the same phone as gt i9000. (sorry cant post the link)
I downloaded the drivers and started using odin3 one click downloader. so i got into download mode then plugged in usb and done the fix but...
Now im stuck with a screen flashing saying "at&t world phone" and neither the recovery mode or download mode will work at all i tried numerous times.
Experts please i would be so grateful if you could help me out
also my warranty is obv void now im guessing, is there a way of paying samsung to get it fixed or do i need a warranty or can i buy a warranty??
Thanks guys

Can we presume that you do know how to access download mode ??
and you have followed the instructions for download recovery with the jig .
If so and it fails you need a Samsung Service Centre .

Ok I did something stupid with my Galaxy S. I didn't pay attention to the firmware I was downloading i did a search for orange branded i9000 Firmware, and was downloaded from a site. Legit firmware and all. So I went to flash with odin like I have done lots of times. Came up fail, so I figured something happened during transfer, so restarted it back into download mode and reflashed again. FAIL again. Restarted and it would not turn back on. The unfortunate to all this is, the firmware after looking in horror at my galaxy s and looking back at the screen said I9100 above and I did not see that at all.
Sooo even with a USB jig this will not show a download menu, no recovery mode, no screen when plugged into charger. Anyone have any tips before I attempt the unbrickable mod?
post you question on darky rom forum they might b able to help
If even the Jig does not work i would try the unbricablemod. I dont't know an other solution to revive your phone than the UnbrickableMod if your phone doesn't boot into the Downloadmode with a Jig. So you have nothing to loose just try this Mod.(it could be your last hope to rescue the phone without sending the phone to Samsung) I didn't try it yet because i ever could revive my phone with the Jig but I've read some reports in a german forum and the users there are reporting that the Mod does rescue the phone even if the Jig doesn't boot your phone in Downloadmode.
You can find the unbricablemod i'm talking about here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153310 It's called "one click-unbrick". Just follow the given instructions and your phone schould work as before
Is your phone really bricked?
Is your phone bricked, or is it stuck at boot???
Normally, if a phone gets bricked, you see the screen of death: a phone logo and a computer logo, with an exclamation mark in between the two...
By the description, it looks like your phone is not able to boot, and is stuck at the screen, where it says: i9000
try putting it in downloading mode, and use odin to go back to stock firmware....
If you can't even turn on your phone, maybe your battery is flat after all that flashing

^^^ That may be the case, try to get another battery or chargning this batter outside the phone (wire to to a 5v source).
Sidenote: I think that download mode draws power from the usb (the phone will stay on even if the battery is removed [at-least mine does])
If the jig does not work then you probably flashed the bootloader or something...which is bad, in that case, unbrickable mod may be your only hope.
I revived it with just the software version of the unbrickable tool. Only have like 2 seconds to do it in linux when you connect the phone, but it put it into a white screen and I flashed with heimdall and I am back up and running. Thank you all!
so you flashed a stable ?
Yep I posted stable. It's weird because if your device shows up in windows some weird device you only have have a couple seconds in linux to make it flip into download, but its doable and I didn't have to hardware mod anything. Back to a perfectly working Galaxy S
Good for you !
You did it well, nice one! ;-)
I was to about to ask you to check your battery but glad you fixed it
Ok... I'm a NOOB I know, but I screwed up BIG TIME.
Here's my problem (also sorry if this is the wrong place)
I got my Samsung Galaxy S today and I wanted to root and upgrade from 2.3.6 to the most recent ICS that was stable with the phone.
I believe I rooted my phone correctly their was no problem there.
Went in Recovery
It was fine at the most part, cleared out the Cache and all that jazz.
Then Installed Cyanogen, That was fine also.
then... I cleared out the cache and etc again and installed the second file...
then this is where ALL the problems started...
So I installed the second file, then recovery automatically closed out and it seemed fine but it went into a boot loop, I'm not even sure if it can be considered a boot loop.
It continuously loops between the "Samsung Galaxy S i9000" Logo & "Samsung Galaxy S & Cyanogen [MOD]" logo...
I couldn't enter recovery...
Because I'm a fool, I took things into my own hands.
When into Download mode, used Odin and placed TAR file (I think it's called) into the PDA section and tried it.
It failed and it BRICKED!
So I have a double wammy!
Firstly I need help to get out of the Bricked state before I can do ANYTHING else
Then I have a choice.
I could...
Find away to get out the loop and Cyanogen working with whatever ICS it should be running
OR
Find away to take it back to 2.3.6 and never tamper with my phone and leave it to the professionals.
I would prefer going to Cyanogen over 2.3.6
I also believe "XXJW4" will be of help to you to narrow down the problem.
Your help with be EXTREMELY appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Don't worry, you should've tried harder if you wanted to brick SGS.
My question is: can't you get in download mode?
You may try USB jig or the unbrickable mod. But I ain't able to answer any further due to my lack of accidents during flashing.
It's better for you to wait for some professional opinions.

I can get into download mode without a problem, just not Recovery...
I've been looking around if their is a way to flash the recovery but can't see it for some reason :|
I looked at that bricking mod...
Wasn't worth it!
I found another by the same guy I believe and it worked like a charm So the bricking has been removed.
Never thought I would see the day I would actually Unbrick and bricked phone. I feel so special HAHA
Read this and somewhere in that thread there is a download link for "EZbase" download it and follow the instructions in the EZbase folder you downloaded to flash it up in Odin. However if you use Heimdall then I personally told others how I did it on the second page of the thread.
If you have any further questions just come back to this thread...

when flashing ICS from GB 2.3.6 you need to flash twice. see MY Android solution link below , anyway I think your problem already solved, if not just flash a rescue kit to get back to GB 2.3.6 from MY Android collections link below
A truly wonderful resource xsenman, I have somewhere to turn people thank you.
I think I should update my problem.
I'm out of the Brick.
I've Flashed CWM recovery and I can get into recovery and Download, but it only stay on the first boot screen (where it mentions the name of the phone.
I wanted to load "CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS" from the recovery but the phone is not letting me saying "E:failed to mount /sdcard"
I Flashed dbdata.rfs.tar to solve it But it didn't work.
Maybe an after effect of the Brick?
so I am stuck here at the moment
Also want to say that I realised I did not properly root my phone so I think I have no choice to call it quits and just go back to 2.3.6.
but I don't have a complete or where to get a "recovery kit" you could call it of some sort which can take me back to 2.3.6 with TouchWiz
Oh wait never mind
I used your recovery
WORKED LIKE A CHARM!
MADE ME A HAPPY MAN AND I CAN GO TO SLEEP!
I wish I could pay you for your effort but I guess I can only say how much I can thank you!
Recovery wont work now, something is corrupt. I don't know exactly what it is... maybe the partitioning or something the ROM sets up is all corrupt. I'd like to know exactly what is wrong here as well tbh.
But you need to flash a recovery kit in Odin or Heimdall because I'm not 110% sure (I could be wrong) official stock ROM is the best way to go atm... I've extracted this link from my thread for you which is EZbase and in the folder you'd download there is instructions for use with Odin.
Hope this helps...
Oppps... didn't see that lmao, glad you fixed it!
in need of help
First off all i am noob when it comes to android but i somehow managed to install cyanogen mod. I have been using it for a while but today i dropped my phone and something happened now i cant start it. when i turn it on its stuck between cyanogen mod and gti 9000 sign. i think its in a loophole. by the way i cant reach recovery mode (vol+ home power). i can star download mode but nothing happens when i plug it to my computer.
I require assistance and tahnks to all further replies.
Hi there! Now, firstly, ive always used Windows Phones but, would like to join Android and discover what it is really like to use... It really does look like fun to use
Anyway, last night i got my mums old Samsung Galaxy S1(G-I9000) and tried to root it and put CyanogenMod on it so i could get arid of the broken TouchWiz(I don't know what the new versions of it are like, but this one was broken and horrible to use) and get updated to Android 4+. Now, the root was successful and i am very happy with myself for doing that.... But here is where it all fell apart....
So, i jumped on their guide on their cyanogenmod wiki and it turns out that doing that first step(The "Installing a custom recovery on Galaxy S") was not needed because i already had ClockWork on my phone and that doing it would apparently break my phone.... I did not realise that till afterwards.
When i tried to reboot into recovery mode to install CM it got stuck on the boot screen. I think to myself maybe its stuffed and ill just reboot it again and see if it work... Nope. Now i try to reboot normally and leave it alone.... Nope. Turns out, all i can do is get into download mode. Now, from what ive found online, using Odin to reflash my phone with the stock ROM is how to fix my phone, problem is, Odin is not finding the phone and Hard Resetting the phone by holding down Lower Volume button and power is not working.... How can i fix this?
I think you can still recover it. However, the reason Odin might not recognize it it's probably because you haven't installed the Samsung USB drivers
If you install them and try to go into Download mode again you might be able to flash the stock ROM back onto your Samsung phone
