[Q] root 2.2.1 on bvjs4 firmware - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello,
i am looking to remove the simlock on my sgs, in order to do this however i need to root. i have read this post this page and every post since feb 2011 (the release dat of my firmware)
however i dont wants to just pick one of the kernels and go at it gung-ho
i am locked to orange in the UK, it is an orange branded phone.
here is my firmware details:
PDA:I9000BVJS4
Phone: I9000BVJP4
CSC: I9000ORAJS4
build info: 2011.02
buil number: FROYO.BVJS4
any help would be greatly appreciated, i have tried replying to the thread but as i joined yesterday i cannot reply untill i post 10 posts.
can anybody suggest which CF-ROOT kernel i should use?

what baseband verision is ? at settings/about phone . If it is JPY you can root with cf-root for JPY .

baseband version is I9000BVJP4
also there is this info
kernel version is 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1 (i have downloaded an app from the market that checks root and it says im not rooted)
im not sure if the [email protected] bit means anything??

Baseband does not equal firmware, baseband is another name for.modem. So don't use cf-root.
To root, flash the speedmod K13C kernel with odin and select root in recovery.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

thanks mothatt, would i need to remove root if the update to gingerbread becomes availiable? also if i remomove the simlock would i still be able to do kies updates from the network provider (for warranty purposes)?

Root will not have to be removed for a firmware upgrade, the upgrade will remove root.
AFAIK removing simlock voids your warrant because it makes a permanent change to your efs. I'm not completely sure though as i have never unlocked.

hello friends,
sorry to be back again, i am having trouble with my phone, when it turns on it passes the orange splash screen but then i get a blank screen and it vibrates alot.
in order to get the phone to load i have to wipe/format to factory settings every time i switch on the phone, or it just goes black and vibrates.
also on a side note: if i use odin to flash new firmware, would this remove the orange brandig rubbish? im not bothered about losing data because i have had to erase everything to get it to load up.
if so which one would be best as i cannot find a bvjs4 firmware on samfirmware

[Q] Newbie needs help upgrading i9000 using KIES

Sorry folks, tried reading the similar type threads and I'm missing something..
Kernel Version
2.6.29
root SE-S603 #2 (removed at sign cause it comes up as external website-strange)
Build number
ECLAIR.XWJM9
Firmware
PDA : I9000XWJM9
PHONE: I9000XXJM4
CSC: I9000OXAJM1
2.1-update 1
Purchased thro' orange, and unlocked, don't think it's branded so someone may have updated it previously. (I bought phone ebay)
Using RegEdit
ProductCode GT-I9000HKDORA
Tried changing to O2 etc using some of the key mentioned, using as follows
Connected phone, using Kies (Phone setting)
Opened KIES (on PC)
Tried upgrade, but it comes up with no upgrade possible
Model Name: GT-I9000
Version PDA:JM9 / PHONE: JM4 / CSC:JM1
reviewed orange website and it looks like it can be upgraded if you use Kies, so I'm not sure what I need to do... Don't want to root at moment, in case I brick it..
thanks in advance your your advice...
Hi Bill. I'm not familiar enough with Eclair ROM codes to be 100% sure but considering the phone came off eBay I would suggest that someone has manally flashed it to a non-standard ROM and this would be why Kies doesn't offer you an upgrade. Your options to fix this are (i) to fool Kies into thinking it's a standard version which will make it offer you the official Froyo update or (ii) join the the happy flasher crew (like me) and flash a newer ROM yourself with Odin or Hemidal (being a newbie I recommend you use Odin). Have a search in the SGS forums for info on both how to fool Kies and also how to flash ROMs with Odin. One word of warning, the v2.2.1 ROMS have a serious battery drain issue so it's best to flash a straight 2.2 ROM for now until Samsung release a 2.2.1 with this issue fixed.
Thanks for reply does that mean if i have the superuser app already its been rooted. If so i have ver 2.1.3 do i need to update or it that ok to use. Thanks in advance..

i tried and with the htc droid i did it but with the galaxy icant see if someone out there can thanks
There's an easy way
I just unlocked my galaxy s thanks to "galaxy s unlock" app found in the market.
It was easy and fast, also well explained. It doesn't even require any code, just a reboot. I had to reboot manually in order to access the phone after the automatic reboot and didn't have any problem to use an orange sim card 2 minutes after completion.
I am on I9000 froyo 2.2.1 (bought 2.1 10 days ago).
My phone was locked on bouygues telecom (french network).
Hope it works for you !
Unable to unlock at alll
Hi.. I tried unlocking using Generate Unlock Windows. But it always threw nv_data.bin not found error.
Then i saw this thread and tried with 2 apps on the market:
Samsung Galaxy S Unlock Tool
Samsung Galaxy S Unlock Froyo
but with both I was asked to root. I tried installing root through 'Update.zip' but it threw "update.zip e:signature varification failed" error
I am totally struck. Please help!!!!

Did you read the post#6 at all? Try reading again. You can not use update.zip files with 3e recovery. You need to be rooted to use these tools. So, again, try reading the link posted in post#6 again.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU AND HELROZ IS A GOD!!!
This totally worked for my Bell Samsung Vibrant GT-i9000M rooted with Superuser (from App store).
If anyone wants the official Bell unlock code it's 09182086, BUT it never worked for me even after 3 days of talking to customer service (over 6 hrs) and going to a Bell store. The number was verified 4 times by Bell.
One of the tech guys even gave me another code 62189513 but it also obviously didn't work for me, but it might for you.
If none of the codes work then use the app developed by Helroz and give him a donation as Bell and their $75 dollar unlock fee can kiss my [email protected]@.

Hi,
I have a question regarding my current Android Version and whether I can install CM 10.0 or not.
PDA: I9000POJV7
Phone: I9000XXJVO
CSC: I9000BOGJV3
Firmware 2.3.3
Baseband I9000XXJVO
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVO-CL182937

Build number: Gingerbread.POJV7
I have CWM installed, at least I have an app called CWM Manager v1.50 those this autmatically mean that I have root?
In the CWM Manager app it says "Current kernel: CF-Root 3.2" so i assume it is rooted right?
The reason why I ask is that this phone is from France even though I am from Germany, so it has this software branding of "Bouygues Telecom".
Can this lead to any problems?
Can I directly install CM 10.0 without installing 2.3.6?

Hi, I have japan galaxy S ( SC-02B).
To unlock this we need to put this from dial pad *7465625*638*# and a menu pops up to enter MNC/NCC code and secret code. After entering MNC/NCC of your network it will successfully lock to new network and you can use SIM card of that network. That method works for any network and phone use to remember the entered code, so you dont have to enter code everytime, just once is enough.
Recently i moved to cyanogenmod 10.1 with modem binary of sc-02b flashed.
Now i dont see any network and at every reboot it asks for SIM network unlock code.
Can anyone help unlocking or where to find this sim network unlock code.

[Q] Debranding SGS and updating to 2.2

Hi guys.
I just got a SGS yesterday as my HTC Desire was stolen last week.
The one I got is a German T-Mobile branded phone (has customised boot and shutdown logo) and I really wan't to get rid of the branding and all those useless apps on it. I live in Denmark so i have no use for T-Mobiles apps that don't work here.
Now i have been reading a lot yesterday on these forums and reading lots of guides but I'm still unsure what route to go. Currently the phone is running 2.1 and I wan't to upgrade to 2.2 or 2.2.1 but unbranded, and then root the phone a bit later and probably move to Darky's Gingerbread edition ROM.
From what i can gather there are 2 methods to do this, but I can't really find out witch one would be right for debranding.
1. Using KIES registry pattcher and change my product code to XEE (Nordics) and try that to flash it to official 2.2 and root that.
2. Using this [HOWTO] manually flash Samsung Galaxy S with JPY firmware ** WORKS **
If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be awesome.
[EDIT] Forgot to mention that i can boot the phone in both download mode and recovery mode holding the 3 buttons, so no need to fix that first.
Information on my phone:
Product code from KIES registry:GT-I9000HKDDTM
*#1234#
PDA: I9000BOJG3
PHONE: I9000BOJF1
CSC: I9000GDTMJH2
Build number:ECLAIR.BOJG3
Firmware revision:2.1-update1
Baseband:I9000BOJF1
Kernel version:[email protected] #2
1. Using KIES registry pattcher and change my product code to XEE (Nordics) and try that to flash it to official 2.2 and root that.
Thats the way to go but you would be best to safe a copy of the current ROM for warranty purposes as you would need to flash it back to make a claim .
Flashing via Odin only if you cannot use method 1 .
jje
Ok, thanks.
But how do I make a backup of the current rom? There is no download for it at far as i can tell.
Get Backup from Samfirmware.com
Go to Samfirmware.com click on Firmware then go to Firmware Section. Select then Android and then Galaxy S GT-I9000. Then download the I9000XWJG3 firmware.
Done

But XWJG3 is not a T-Mobile branded firmware is it? If it is nothing on these guides makes any sense.
Btw I did find a I9000BOJG3.rar file on some download page, downloaded and it does contain the following files that match my current versions. I have no idea if it's a working flash but if it is I would be able to flash thsi from odin to return to stock right?
I9000BOJG3.rar file contains:
CODE_I9000BOJG3.tar.md5
CSC_I9000GDTMJH2.tar.md5
MODEM_I9000BOJF1.tar.md5
Oh my Fault. I tought that only the ending is important (Like if the ending is JP7 than it's a Vodafone Firmware and if the ending is JG3 it's a T-Mobile
But XWJG3 is not a T-Mobile branded firmware is it? If it is nothing on these guides makes any sense
You get branded firmware from the network operator .
All firmware on these pages is non branded .
Again my suggestion is to use Kies registry patcher and spoof the update to whatever you want .
jje
I'm also trying to debrand my SGS and get Froyo, but I'd also like to make a backup of my original ROM. However, my ROM isn't available in samfirmware.com. It's I9000BVJJI1 and I want to update to I9000BVJJPD, which one of my friends has and probably is the same hardware.
Is there any way to backup my original ROM?
Your rom and every network rom comes from the network Sam is generic base roms .
Back up = Clockwork Mod Recovery to save the rom .
May i repeat if you dont know what you are doing then dont this forum is littered with broken phones belong to newbies who have not bothered to read and understand and now need to take the phone back to Samsung for repair with non valid firmware that has invalidated the warranty .
jje
Just did the update via KIES using the patcher and everything went smooth.
Saved the new firmware during flashing and a factory reset after the flash as i had basically nothing on the phone yet.
Right now I'm on 2.2
PDA: I9000XWJPA
PHONE: I9000XXJPP
CSC: I9000XEEJP4
Not rooted yet, but I'm gonna do that tomorrow probably.

[Q] Reverting to stock SGS - Warranty purposes

Hi all,
I'm fairly new to the flashing world and need some guidance.
Current rom:
MODEL NUMBER GT-I9000
FIRMWARE VERSION 2.2.1
BASEBAND VERSION I9000XXJPY
KERNEL 2.6.32.9 root (at) SEP - 51 #1
BUILD NUMBER FROYO .XXJPY
Old Rom:
It was from vodafone, but i can't seem to find exactly what rom it is.
I had a problem with my stock SGS rom and was forced to flash it, but i now have a different rom installed on my SGS, the booting animation (for example) isn't from vodafone anymore.
And KIES doesn't recognize my current rom (for update), so i wanted to know how could i leave everything exactly like it was before. So that i could update to gingerbread the official way and still have a fall back plan.
One last thing, i used odin (v 1.3) to flash it, can i "safely" reverse from 2.2.1 to 2.2 (original from vodafone)? And how?
Thanks again for the help.
I'm very sorry for the long text.
Just use the wonderful & usefull searchbox and find this:
Rom list
Thank you for the reply, i've been on that thread, but still i don't know which is my rom and if the csc will be return to stock.
Thank you again
Sent from my GT-I9000
Stock is not the rom that came with the phone its stock Samsung rom .
You need to have saved your original rom or find somebody that did .
Your Vodaphone upgrade path through Kies will fail as you do not have a Vodaphone rom .
2.2 to 2.1 via Odin with pit 512 and repartition checked .Just use 2.1 rom from samfirmware .
May help .

2.1 revert from 2.2 just flash should be ok problems reflash with pit 512 and repartition checked .

Also dont be to scared of vodafone. If you have a stock Samsung android, instead of the Vodafone, you still have warranty. Only thing that can happen is that when you send your phone in, they'll flash a Vodafone rom back on and you'll be having all the vodafone crap back on it.
Really? That's the best news i've heard, since i had this problem. Thanks a lot, how did you know this?
Regards,
Solid Snake

The terms and conditions do not say you can flash any old rom and not break your warranty .
The position is one with a stock rom you may get away with warranty repairs but it will depend upon who you take it to and even the guy picking up the phone .
Samsung service centre and they may well repair .
Vodaphone service centre and its clear that they do not have too repair as you have broken your terms of warranty with Vodaphone .
So rule one is a back up of your original rom will nearly always be the safest path it also allows you to use the Kies method for official firmware updates if you want to revert back .

Experience: I messed up 2 of my previous phones (SE and HTC) due to flashing firmwares and brought them to T-Mobile and Vodafone, telling them the phone got stuck in boot. They took them in and when I got them back, they had Vodafone and T-mobile firmware on them again.
But as jje stated, its offcourse always the best to have a backup of your phones firmware. Its always possible some annoying Vodafone guy pops up, and makes a big deal out of it.
Thanks for all the input,
I never wanted to flash my sgs, but i screwed up the original rom and the phone didn't boot so it was my last resort.
Due to that i didn't make a backup.
In kies i have my rom as KOR and it says that i can't update, if i that *#272#imei code and put it in XEU, would it work? In theory.

Is there a way to download ROMs from the Kies server so that they can be flashed manually at a later date? I'm thinking that if I need it, I can flash back to the latest H3G branded firmware for warranty purposes.

[Q] Note and csc

Hi,
After having changed usb port at the service, they also reload firmware to my note device. When I came home, noticed that Kies does not
recognize the firmware loaded by service.
The details from *#1234# are:
PDA: N7000XXLSZ
PHONE: N7000XXLSO
CSC: N7000OJVLSB
Build info: Thu Feb 14:01:51 KST 2013
From Settings --> about
Android version: 4.1.2
Kernel version 3.0.31-906407
Beaseband: N7000XXLSO
Build number: JZ054K.N7000XXLSZ
I dont remeber the previous frimware details, but it was recognized by Kies and I was able to upgrade if a new frimware arrived.
Further search leaded to incorret CSC and solution given was to type :
*#272*IEMI# and change CSC code for Turkey.
Did not use the last 2 digit which is / 01
But got error msg saying "Unkown application"
How to proceed from this point on ?
How can I change the CSC ?
Does 4.1.2 not allow CSC change ?
try this
and be ready for a wipe.
Thanks for the info, the problem is that, I dont want my phone as rooted. There must be a way withhout root authority.
Why *#272*iemi# does not work in my case ? I'm sure my iemi is correct and not entered the last 2 digit / 01 .

Hımm,
What about using Odin 3.07 and downloading Firmware : N7000XXLSZ CSC : N7000OJVLSB from sammobile.com ?
This will be my first use of Odin, and appyling firmware with it. Is it risky ? Does it cause any counter increase in Node ? ( for serviceability )
That should work.. Try flashing the stock firmware under csc tab. If that does not work then try the normal way..

Going crazy ))
Downloaded Odin and proper stock code from sammobile.com for my country.
Used Odin to upload my phone with the ( so caled) new code. ( selected PDA for all code ) Everything went poperly. The code updated with success ...
I notice, you said only CSC but I've chosen PDA for all code to be updated. Did not dare to check only CSC, sorry.
Phone rebooted, and I was expecting the problem to be solved.
But:
Kies still says : Your devices current firmwre version is not supported to update firmware via Kies....
Another interesting thing is that, all the applications are there . I thought it should be a clean start w/o any addtl appl. intstalled by me.
Can this be the clue ?
I'm stuck ..
What am I doing wrong ?
Flashing a JB rom will not wipe anything. It will retain your apps and data.
Check if the csc has changed or not. If not, then it's best to root and use csc changer. Then you can flash the rom again like you did to remove root.

The problem with root is, my note is still under warranty, at least for one more year. I also found Framaroot but it also violates warranty.
I think, the best way is to revisit the service dept of Samsung and ask them to reload the proper stock rom .
I didnt want to revisit service, since it takes too much time to get the phone back from them
JB does not support *#272*iemi#
The rom I found from sammobile.com for my country somehow not the proper one. pda: xxlsz phone: xxlso csc: JVLSB
Couldnt found what LSB stands for anywhere.
Looking stock rom for Turkey.
So, behave as a nice customer and visit the service dept Pitty ...
