[Q] Captivate on 900Mhz? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First, sorry of my poor english.
I bought this phone and use it in Hong Kong.
Now my carrier (HKCSL) provide dual band WCDMA 900/2100 Mhz service.
I want to use 900MHz because I know it can provide more and large coverage than 2100Mhz.
Is it prossible that this phone's hardware/communication chipset have 900Mhz?
If yes, any Rom, kernel or modem can turn 900Mhz on? May Rom/kernel developer can develop this function?
Thank you your help.

you just mentioned it at the last part of your thread, try different modem in custom roms there is many to choose and not all phone with same model would give you same result and satisfaction as with another just try flashing and reflashing to get your sweet spot.

The quickest thing is to check the FCCID in the battery compartment:
IHDP56KC1: CDMA (this is the Droid, rather than a milestone)
IHDP56KC2: Dual band 2100/900MHz UMTS, Quad band GSM
IHDP56KC5: Triple band 850/1900/2100MHz UMTS, Quad band GSM
Since you are in the US, it's very likely that you have the KC5 version, and should use the North America/Latin America versions.
Or you can install any version you like, and then update the radio files to the correct ones.
sorry it took so long I just checked and I have the KC2. What would you recommend? Can I get a link on how to flash the radio? Thank you

I'm not sure, but IF it is the milestone, you can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932196
This is my thread which tells you how to install a leaked 2.2.1 file, root, and get into androidani recovery. There are baseband options in androidani open recovery.
ONLY IF IT IS A MILESTONE!!!!!! and im pretty sure the baseband options are all gsm. Also, there is a list of mostly all the roms available right now (most). Good luck!

[SOLVED] an idea to make ICS work with original thrill bands (at&t)

found a way to extract with this tool.
attached the baseband for whoever wants it.
final result = endless boot loop.
ORIGINAL POST:
Hello,
I tried to flash the new ics port, with different basebands but the reception wasn't good.
my carrier works on 3G 2100/850mhz bands, and no 2G support.
did a little research and found:
p920 supports 2100 mhz (and others but not 850 mhz) 3g band
p920h supports 850 mhz (and others but not 2100 mhz) 3g band
any of those bands alone gives me half of the reception coverage.
however p925 basebands support both 850 and 2100 mhz.
when i flashed at&t official GB rom from here, i've got full support of my network, wich is by the way not at&t, but Pelephone, Israel.
my idea is to dump the GB baseband from original at&t's rom
and flash it after flashing the new ICS port (instead of the given XBSA404_CP.fls), which i think should work with the GB baseband.
my question to you guys is how can we dump only the baseband from at&t official rom
and flash it on an ICS thrill ?
and do you think this should work ?
Thanks in advance, ValkA.

Original GB 1.8a baseband, in .fls format. I dont know why you need to go through all of this, you can flash this AT&T Baseband ontop of a Thrill (P925) WITH the ICS port to have 3G. Shoot, I have HSPA on mine.
the 1.8 baseband is made for p920, which doesn't support both 3G 2100 and 850 mhz, it supports only 2100.
i will have HSPA with this baseband, but with a little network coverage.
with the p925 baseband i have full network coverage, thats why all the effort.
you were right, i tried to flash it one more time and it works now!

I assume this means that it is not possible to flash different radio firmware to change the operating frequencies on weither 3g or 4g bands?
Can someone please give me an opinion?
maybe possible?
should be possible?
its be done on other HTCs?
or im out of luck it will never happen because....?

This is a VERY good question, one to which I can't seem to find an answer either on these forums.
For month now I've been hoping that the great minds of the XDA pantheon would have found a way for us to flash, say, an EU radio firmware on a HTC One Developer Edition to enable the EU frequency bands (perhaps while dropping the US bands, I couldn't care less), but I can't seem to find anyone who's ever attempted it with any success.
I'm just pining for that Dev Ed in all it's glory with EU freq bands...
Some say it's hardware, but I just can't seem to believe that HTC would go through all the trouble of creating different hardware for each worldly region. It's far simpler to just build the same device for all and then start locking bands.
What I *did* find was that the Qualcomm chipset should allow for all required freqs, it's just not "enabled".
But perhaps I should stop dreaming ?
Kind regards,
Lander.

Inquiry on N7000 frequency band (can it be changed?)

Hello, i recently moved from Asia to North America and i found out that the frequency band requirement to be able to have the galaxy note n7000 working in Canada is to have bands 1700/2100. Is there any procedure that i can do to get this supported? Is it a change in baseband, modem, etc? If so, what baseband or modem should i be flashing to get the band 1700/2100 supported?
Would appreciate all suggestions on how to go about this. thank you!
No.
