keeps rebooting os - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

strange problem.. my battery went down to like 1 pecent the other day so i turned it off.. I turned it on several hours later to check to see if i had any messages, it turned on, then started to load then shut off. When I got home, I charged it.
When I tired to turn it on it boots, then vibrates then reloads android again ( not the whole phone, just android os)
I have tried hard resetting, but I cant get it to work.. is my phone dead.. i really do not want to warranty it out..

If taking out the battery doesn't work, I would think you might need to go to Download Mode.

This has happened to me several times. I found that if I use the lockscreen when it first appears during boot it may stop with about 1/4 left. That puts it in the reboot cycle (it didn't in 2.1). Letting it completely boot before using the lockscreen got it to work.

X1 wont start up

I have this problem that when I try to boot my X1 it zooms when I press the power button but after that nothing happens!
The screen stays black and when I press the button again nothing happens...
Have to take battery out to get it to zoom again.. Still nothing happens.
When I give the X1 external power it doesn't do the zoom and it does not charge (lights dont go on)
When I keep the reset button pressed I do get in the software part where I can load ROMs... I got it started to reload the ROM for reinstallation but when it tried to boot again, again nothing...
now I cant even get into bootloader..
leave it on a charger for a few hours
Looks like you bricked your phone somehow. Sometimes it happens even if you didn't do anything to it (if you flashed a unofficial rom). Now what you can do is to sell it for parts for $20 or $30 on eBay. =) Good luck on selling.
Try with another fully charged battery.
Does not seem to be bricked...
Since I left it "on" all night and tried to take battery out and start it up..
And it worked... Got into windows but as soon as he went on standby and I tried to get it out it stayed black again. After rebooting the same thing... Stayed pitch black...
Oke when I remove the battery and press the on/off button a few times and leave it for a couple of minutes, stick battery back in there and boot it, I can get into windows..
Problem now is that after a period of a couple of minutes it crashes again and the same problem persists with rebooting, untill I do the same trick
Found out new info about the problem! When I removed the battery for a short while I could boot it and do everything but it would crash again after a short while..
I removed the battery the whole night now and it keeps working for like an hour straight now. So it depends on how long the battery got removed (strange :S)
Next to that the X1 wont charge when it's shut down... Only when I get it to boot into OS..

I cant turn on my phone. Help please.

I have this installed [ROM] CyanogenMod-6.1.0-RC1 for Hero CDMA
I was running wifi tethering and installing a game called chess.
I heard my phone vibrate quickly and the screen was black. I tried to turn it back on. But nothing. So I removed the battery and waited a couple minutes. I cant get it to come on.
So I plugged it into a charger and the red/orange LED is on as if it is charging.
The phone will not even attempt to start up
Any ideas?

Phone just seems dead to me... probably just needs to charge for an hour or so
If it's not charge up and running by now, you'll need a new battery.
Thanksgiving day I had my phone on but was doing things around the house and when I went to check my phone it wouldn't wake. Holding down the power button, nothing, it was dead. I know the battery wasn't drained. So I plugged it into my USB and the light didn't turn on either. I sat staring at the phone for a few seconds to troubleshoot and it suddenly began to boot up and after everything loaded I could confirm it was half charged.
I'm running the same version of Cyanogen as you. Are you using the original battery or 3rd party? Mine is 3rd party.
Have you had other strange occurrences leading up to this? Twice in a week I woke up to find my phone on even though I know I shut it down the night before and not accidentally rebooted.
Since I was able to get my phone to boot back from temporary dead the phone has frozen twice while texting. I didn't battery pull or anything, it just rebooted by itself after a few minutes. I plan on switching back to my old battery to see what happens.

SGS *Completely* dead

Hello.
I'll get straight to the facts.
I had my phone rooted with Odinv3 using "busybox" (is all i can see on my downloads).
I then went to update to Gingerbread today, but didn't realise I had to un-root the phone!
So this made the phone keep refreshing the samsung galaxy S screen.
I then went to reboot to stock using this thread. Said it passed etc.
Now my phone is completely dead. It won't turn on. Nothing at all when i get it into download mode. No lights turn on. Odin *does* recognise it when I plug it in, the yellow box lights up.
The computer makes a noise to recognise that somethings been plugged in.
But alas nothing on the phone. I've left the battery out and tried it in but nothing.
What can I do please?! I am stuck here. And fear i just have wasted a great sum of money...
Will I be able to take it back on warranty? I haven't had it long, 3 months or so. Would they recognise it has been rooted despite it being put back to stock software.
Thanks. Daniel
You are a bit unclear, can you get download mode with 3 button combo?
Sent from my GT-I9000
tried many times to remove and replace the battery worked for me
sorry for the google translation
I managed to get into download mode by doing a 3 button combo earlier, can't remember what it was but I had to hold three buttons *THEN* fit my battery. THen it went into download mode. I can't remember which combo it was though as i've tried loads before and they didn't work!
It won't do anything now though.
Could i have booted it with a wrong ROM and that's why it won't load?
How come Odin picks it up and it goes through that passing etc?
THis si so annoying.
Volume down/power/home hold til galaxy s logo then release a yellow logo should appear

Sorry for opening an old thread. But i have aproximately the same problem with one exception:
Odin won't regognize my phone.
I was just in the process of installing this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136449
It got to the first step: "DO NOT POWER OFF DEVICE!!".. and then nothing. Sat there for 15 minutes untill i unplugged it.
shut down the phone using the power button, but now.. its completely dead.
This was offcourse before I realized i had just tried to install a ROM for SGS.. not SGSII.
So.
Odin doesnt recognize the phone.
The phone won't turn on, no matter what I do.
Nothing happens when I try to charge the phone.
I've tried pulling the battery several times, but its just .. dead.
However, when I plug in the battery, the phone seems to get hot. Not very hot, but just slightly above 25 degrees (aprox).
I'm afraid i've f*cked up big time, and have to send it in for a repair..
Anyone have a tip of what I can do ?
(Yes, the battery is charged - not empty).
Have you tried going into download mode again? does the screen power up at all?
My advice is try to leave the battery out for 15-30 minutes, then try getting into Download mode again, with the USB cable already plugged in and ODIN running on your machine.
See if ODIN can detect it and work from there... May be better than nothing. Hope this helps.

Did you know how to flashing the rom (via CWM) ? You have to notice your battery percentage first.
What exactly were you flashing? CF-root? where did you get it from?
I had the battery out through the night and tried again this morning.. didnt work..
It SEEMS to be completely dead.. (with exception from that the cpu gets hot when battery is plugged in.. )
I tried flashing this:
http://www.multiupload.com/6QNW8P7DTY
I came as far as "Setting PIT file.." "DO NOT TURN OFF" in odin, and then everything stopped.
The battery was at 70% when i started the process.
The phone have only been on for about 20 minutes since.

[Q] My Note is Dead X_X // Privacy Question

When I send back my SGNote to Samsung, is their protocol deleting the DATA from the device [internal (sd)] first? Basically, what happens to my data?
WHAT HAPPENED: I was downloading an app through the Amazon App Store when my phone froze. I put it down and walked away to the kitchen when I heard the boot up sound a couple of minutes later. I walk back to see that my SGNote was stuck with the Samsung/N7000 logo. I left it for several more minutes and decided to pull the battery out.
I booted into recovery mode and just randomly decided to do "Fix Permissions" which I knew wouldn't fix the problem then it rebooted itself and was still stuck at the logo. I pull the battery out and waited a couple of seconds; I put the battery in and the phone would not turn on at all. At least I'm pretty sure the screen won't turn on. I plug in the phone to the wall charger but still nothing.
TL;DR It's definitely dead.

[Q] My Phone is stuck on a Bootloop and I can't Reset it.

I own a Moto G 2nd generation running stock lollipop, no modifications, and a couple days ago the battery drained completely kind of quickly (it even turned off when it had 5% left). when i charged it again, it turned on but it charged only up to 1%. i left there for hours and it didn't charge more than it, when i took off the charger it turned on almost imediately so it wasn't a display bug, it really had 1% left. i tried changing chargers and cables but no luck. also when it turned on it displayed the CQATest app which is a Motorola diagnostics app that isn't supposed to show to the end user and it didn't get mobile signal (I didn't have wifi and i didn't check if it was still working). i left it a couple hours turned off to see if the battery drained completely but it didn't fix. after it I left charging the whole night and by the morning it was on the same situation.
When i switched airplane mode on and off, it got mobile signal, but still it had 1% battery and the CQATest app. after it, I took a shower and when i came back the screen was turned on, but completely black. when i turned off and on it remained the same. when i took off the carger it turned off suddenly, and when I put it on again the cellphone turned on imediately even if i didn't press any button. I turned on and off several times throughout the day and only once it turned on, but when it did it kept displaying messages like "the process com.android.whatever has stopped" several times per second, sometimes variating the process. when i turned off and on it went back to the black screen.
So i was willing to factory reset it, and i could access the fastboot menu, but since it only had 0 or 1% battery i couldn't activate recovery mode to do the wipe and reset. On the motorola support for the first generation it says that you can press the power button for 2 minutes to reset, but when i tried it, it kept turning on, then off then on again several times and it didn't reset. i had the debugging mode activated but my computer doesn't even recognize the device so i guess i couldn't try adb. what else can i do?
TL;DR my phone is stuck on a bootloop with 1% battery and can't use adb or recovery mode. how can i reset it?
